Disney's Grilled Cheese Recipe Is Exactly the Comfort Food You Need Right Now


Disney parks are closed for the foreseeable future, but its kitchens are still spreading magic—this time with its hallmark recipe for extra-special grilled cheese, usually served at Woody’s Lunch Box at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.

It’s the latest how-to in a series of beloved (and once secret) recipes that has circulated over the past few weeks, including Dole Whip, churros, and cookie fries.

And this one couldn’t come at a better time, because what sounds better than curling up on the couch with an ooey-gooey grilled cheese (tomato soup on the side) to watch a Disney classic from your youth? And if you’re thinking, “Duh, I know how to make a grilled cheese” the crew at Disney has some special hacks for you to make it even cheesier.

Here’s the recipe, which serves four people and includes the special spreads that make this sandwich unlike your average grilled cheese.

Ingredients:

Cream Cheese Spread

Garlic Spread

Grilled Three-Cheese Sandwich

Instructions:

For Cream Cheese Spread:

Combine cream cheese, Double Gloucester or cheddar, heavy cream, and salt in food processor. Blend until smooth. Set aside.

For Garlic Spread:

Combine mayonnaise, garlic, and salt in small bowl and stir until blended. Set aside.

For Grilled Three-Cheese Sandwich:

  1. Lay out artisan bread slices on parchment paper or large cutting board.
  2. Place 2 slices of cheddar on 4 of the bread slices. Place 2 slices of provolone on remaining bread slices.
  3. Equally spoon cream cheese spread on slices with provolone. Gently smooth cream cheese spread over each slice.
  4. Press cheddar side and provolone side together.
  5. Heat a large skillet over medium heat for 5 minutes, until hot.
  6. Brush both sides of the sandwiches with garlic spread.
  7. Grill sandwiches for 2 minutes on each side, until cheese is melted and bread is golden brown.

And just like that, you have a perfect meal.

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry Reportedly Delivered Food to Critically Ill People in Los Angeles


Like all of us, Meghan Markle and Prince Harry are trying to find some semblance of normalcy amid the coronavirus pandemic. And for them, that usually means finding a way to give back. They may no longer be working members of the royal family, but their charitable tendencies aren’t going anywhere anytime soon.

Entertainment Tonight reports the couple have been volunteering with Project Angel Food, a Los Angeles organization founded by Marianne Williamson that prepares and delivers healthy meals to those affected by serious illnesses. (The couple reportedly made the big move to L.A. earlier this year.) ET says the Sussexes first volunteered on Easter Sunday and then delivered another 20 meals on Wednesday, April 15.

“They told us they heard our drivers were overloaded and wanted to volunteer to lighten the drivers’ workload,” Project Angel Food’s executive director Richard Ayoub said. The couple reportedly followed all social distancing guidelines, staying six feet away from others and wore masks and gloves.

“I am blown away that they chose us. They care about our vulnerable population,” Ayoub also told ET. “Our clients are most at risk to contract the coronavirus, having compromised immune systems including heart disease, lung disease, diabetes, and most are over the age of 60.”

We’re sure the Project Angel Food clients are so grateful to still have their meals delivered, even during this difficult time—and it must have been quite the surprise for many to find Meghan Markle and (Prince) Harry doing the delivering.

The Duke of Sussex recently opened up about how he, Markle, and baby Archie are doing during quarantine on a video call with one of his U.K. patronages, WellChild.

“There’s a hell of a lot of positives that are happening at the same time and being able to have family time — so much family time — that you almost think, ‘Do I feel guilty for having so much family time?’” he said. “You’ve got to celebrate those moments where you are just on the floor rolling around in hysterics. Inevitably, half an hour later, maybe a day later, there’s going to be something that you have to deal with and there’s no way you can run away from it.”

Weleda Skin Food Helped Get Me Through Accutane


Accutane is no joke. Before even going on the medication you have to take a blood test, pregnancy test, be using at least two methods of birth control, and discuss any past history of mental illness. Despite all this, I was desperate to get on the medication that has been referred to by many as a miracle. I’ve been battling constant hormonal cystic acne since middle school. It was painful, embarrassing, and both the breakouts and the red marks they left behind steadily chipped away at my already low self esteem. After years of trying every nearly every acne product on the market, prescription topicals, antibiotics, and spironolactone, last December my dermatologist and I were ready to take the plunge and turn to Accutane.

The medication changed my life, my skin is the clearest it’s ever been and my confidence reflects that, but it’s hell on your body. Accutane is essentially a huge dose of Vitamin A that is absorbed into your blood, and much like applying a topical retinol, taking Accutane can make your skin very dry and sensitive. It basically sucks all the moisture out of my whole body. This leads to flaky skin, split lips, dry itchy eyes, and in my case, nosebleeds at the worst possible times (including debuting a new white shirt and on the dance floor on a Saturday night).

While the nosebleeds were unfortunately inevitable, I had a small army of products to aid me in the fight against dehydrated, flaky skin, the MVP being Weleda Skin Food, a thick, glorious cream that borders on a balm-like texture. It has almost a waxy feel, but sinks into your skin and doesn’t leave a greasy residue, just a cushion of luxurious moisture. It has a nice herbal smell that’s not cloying, but a little medicinal.

It’s been around for nearly a century and is the stuff beauty editors, makeup artists, and influencers rave about. Our deputy editor even refers to it the “$20 La Mer” because of how luxurious it feels. The base is made of beeswax and healing oils, and it also contains chamomile and calendula, two of my favorite calming ingredients, which helped soothe my dry, irritated skin and any lingering acne I was dealing with.

Although this cream is super moisturizing on it’s own, I found the best way to use Skin Food was as part of my night routine as a sealant to lock in everything I layered underneath. I would start with a hyaluronic acid serum, add an oil (usually rosehip), and then add a generous layer of Skin Food on top to seal in moisture and create a barrier, almost like a sleeping mask.

I also rely on it on super flaky days in the morning, where I apply a thin layer over a moisturizing serum. It smooths over any scaly patches and creates a really glowy base for makeup. After putting on foundation, I go back in with another dab of the cream on my cheekbones, both for a pretty natural highlight and to add a little more moisture before heading out the door.

I finished Accutane in July, and luckily my skin has regained it’s moisture levels, but you can pry my Skin Food out of my cold dead hands. I still love using it as a night mask and on any patches that need a little TLC, and will consider myself part of the Skin Food fan club forever.

This Is the One Food Royals Can't Eat, According to Duchess Camilla


In news that will come as a shock for many lovers of a certain bulbous, delicious ingredient, there is apparently one food and one food only that royals aren’t allowed to eat. Found in cultures’ cuisines around the world, it seems as though the humble but decidedly supreme garlic isn’t allowed on royal plates. Much like not wearing red nail polish, messy buns (unless you’re Meghan Markle, that is), and going sans nylons, this is apparently as much a matter of royal protocol as any. Camilla, the Duchess of Cornwall, appeared on MasterChef Australia earlier this week and explained exactly why.

“I hate to say this, but garlic. Garlic is a no-no,” the duchess said.

“So garlic is a no-no?” one of the show’s judges asked. “Because you’re talking, chatting?”

“Yes, exactly. So you always have to lay off the garlic,” she said.

This news is, to be sure, exceptionally tragic—but it’s not the first time the royal family has come out as anti-garlic. Back in 2016, we discovered that Queen Elizabeth II is royally averse to the stuff (the Queen, let it be said, is “not a foodie at all”). As it turns out, it seems as though she might have set a bit of a precedent.

As former Buckingham Palace kitchen chef Darren McGrady said all the way back then, “When [the Queen] was at the table, there was no garlic at all,” he said. “She was very Victorian and believed when she was brought up that you don’t eat garlic—because if you were holding an audience the next day, you didn’t want to be breathing garlic. It was seen as antisocial.”

Just last month, he added that “anything with garlic” as well as anything with “too much onions” would never be on royal plates. “The Queen would never have garlic on the menu,” he added.

The Queen’s reasoning seems pretty similar to the Duchess of Cornwalls, but let’s be real: This is 2018, and things like breath mints, gum, and super-extra strength toothpaste are available to avoid offending international guests with garlicky breath.

We all know Markle has given up a lot to become a Duchess, and this means she will also have to cancel garlic—an ingredient that she loved to mix in her recipe for a Filipino-style chicken. We hereby humbly submit a petition to the Queen: Stock up on the minty stuff, and cut loose on the garlic. You won’t look back.
