The Bachelor Season 23, Episode 10 Recap: The Women Tell All

The Bachelor‘s Women Tell All special is a highlight every season. It’s like a Real Housewives reunion, but everyone talks about things like their “journey” and whether or not they’re down for Paradise instead of, like, bickering about where their sister-in-law is sitting on a couch. It’s thrilling. (Spoilers ahead.)

My favorite part is always right at the beginning, when Chris Harrison introduces all the women we forgot about. Remember Bri? Jane? Nina? That there was more than one woman named Alex? Who are these people???

We’ll never know, because CH moves right on to asking the women what they think about last night’s drama and Colton’s fence jump. “[If I were him,] I couldn’t look Tayshia and Hannah in the eyes after that,” Sydney says. Heather agrees, wondering how he could possibly finish the show after declaring his love for Cassie.

But what did the women think of Colton when they first met him? “I mean, he’s hot,” Hannah B. jokes. And what about that whole virginity thing? “I was excited to explore a man that’s a virgin.” Demi says. “Is it weird that I was kind of turned on?” Nobody gives her an answer.

Chris moves on, setting up a montage of the various drama and rivalries that plagued the season. Right away, as soon as the video ends, Courtney starts in on Demi. Chris pauses them to let Catherine the DJ, of all people, have her time to talk uninterrupted. Not much to unpack there, so we dig into Onyeka and Nicole’s feud. Nicole still feels like she was bullied by Onyeka, but Tracy speaks up and says that’s ridiculous. “You questioned whether I was emotionally stable…just because you had seen me crying,” Nicole says to Onyeka. Nina then chimes in, saying Nicole would talk shit all the time about the other women so she’s not totally innocent in this. Then Sydney stands up for Nicole, saying it seemed like Onyeka was acting out because she knew she was going to leave soon. “At least I didn’t leave like a coward, like you did,” Onyeka hits back. Basically, Onyeka says, Nicole was different on camera than she was off camera.

“Emotions are obviously running high,” Chris says, before kicking to a commercial break.

When we return, Chris asks Katie why she told Colton that some of the women weren’t ready for marriage. Caelynn says her warning put every relationship left, including her own, into question. At this, Katie finally reveals that, yup, she was talking about Caelynn and Cassie. It all stemmed from a conversation she heard the two have on a bus, during which she claims they talked about “winning” and potentially becoming the Bachelorette. Caelynn says she and Cassie were talking about their fears that one would get engaged and what that would mean for their friendship. According to Caelynn, she and Katie talked on the phone recently and confirmed this. Not true, Katie replies. “I hate this, actually,” she says. “I feel so mad I’m shaking. That’s the manipulation Hannah B. warned Colton about.”

Hannah B. asked to be left out of this drama, but if you must know, she remembers the bus conversation and she agrees with Katie’s version of events.

This leads Chris to ask Hannah B. where she and Caelynn stand. “We’re like oil and water,” she explains, but they’re on good terms now. Caelynn agrees—they’re never going to be best friends, but they can support each other and move on.

OK, time for Demi to explain why she shaded the “cougar club.” At this point I realize: Where is Elyse???? I paused to Google—turns out she’s at a friend’s wedding—so I didn’t hear Demi’s defense. Whatever it was, Tracy is clearly still not a fan. “Demi, you act like a child,” Courtney chimes in. Demi complains that Courtney wanted to “tone down Demi,” which made her upset. Demi admits that calling Courtney the cancer of the house was extreme and wrong. Because, “you’re more like bed bugs,” she says. “I only know how to do deal with mature adults,” Courtney replies, before getting up and stuffing a damn pacifier in Demi’s mouth. It’s…well, it’s really weird. (Read Demi’s thoughts on it here.)

Then Demi comes up on stage to talk to Chris. Being vulnerable is hard for her, she says, but she wanted to show Colton how serious she was. Demi reveals she never told any of the other women about her mom being in prison; she was also scared and embarrassed to tell Colton about it, but she appreciated how he responded once she did. She seems to be doing just fine post breakup, “I know who I am and I know that I’m a badass.” With that, Harrison teases that we’ll probably see her again (a.k.a. Paradise!).

The Bachelor Season 23, Episode 9 Recap: So That's Why Colton Jumped the Fence

There’s so much that happens this episode of The Bachelor—the much-anticipated fence jump, a surprise cameo from Cassie’s dad, Colton’s first overnight date, to name a few—so let’s just jump right in, shall we? Spoilers ahead, obviously.

Things kick off with Colton and Chris Harrison catching up. For a hot second, it seems like they’re going to have “the talk.”

“I have an idea of what happens in a fantasy suite,” Colton says, not at all convincingly.

“Thank God,” Chris answers, maybe a little too quickly.

Colton then assures Chris (and us viewers) that if the situation is right and everyone’s in love, he’s gonna do it this week. Or, as he puts it, “make love.”

“Enjoy your week,” Chris says as they part ways. “Congratulations!”

With that, they’re all off to Portugal. Cheers.

Once everyone lands in Europe, the women reveal their priorities for the week. Tayshia’s ready to “explore” being physical with Colton. Cassie wants to use this time to figure out her feelings. And the first thing on Hannah’s to-do list is the fantasy suite. As for Colton, he seems really, really excited about maybe-possibly losing his virginity.

That’s good news, I guess, for Tayshia, who has the first date of the week. “I hope today has in store a lot of new firsts for us,” she insinuates. Before they can get to that, though, they must get through the rest of the date which starts with a helicopter ride. During it, they talk about the super sexy topic of Portugal’s main exports. Colton jokes that it’s extra virgin olive oil, to which Tayshia quips, “That’s how I like ’em!”

The virgin innuendos don’t end there. After the helicopter takes them to a castle—or fort, maybe?—the two sip on champagne and talk about all the things they’ve done together. “What’s something you haven’t done yet?” Tayshia asks. Colton yells back, “Fantasy suites, baby!!!” To my amazement, she continues with the date. In all seriousness, though, Colton says he’s just excited to have intimate conversations with all the women this week, whether or not that involves losing his virginity. Sure.

Before the commercial break, Tayshia assures us viewers that she’s totally ready to “take that next step” with Colton. Then, when we return from the break, she reiterates that she’s only intimate with someone she loves, and she’s in love with Colton. I appreciate and yet am horrified by the amount of times the producers have asked this women to confirm that, yes, a sexual encounter with Colton would be consensual. At this point, I’m half expecting her to show up with a notarized statement stating, “I want to have sex with Colton.”

We finally get to the dinner portion of their date, to which Tayshia wears a dress that requires all the boob tape available in Portugal. It looks fantastic. Colton can’t keep his eyes off her chest, though that’s partially because she keeps fussing with her dress. She asks him to keep an eye out in case a boob pops out, and Colton is like, “YUP.”

They talk, yet again, about Colton’s virginity and the night ahead. Tayshia tells him that she waited to have sex—she lost her virginity to her ex-husband—so she understands the importance of the situation. Then she reveals that a year into her marriage her husband cheated, which she says taught her the value of intimacy even more. Colton promises that if they are endgame, he’ll never cheat. (I mean, dude, that should be a given—but a sweet sentiment.)

Colton presents Tayshia with a key to the fantasy suite, and she says yes. Cue some corny music as Colton talks about his sexual prowess. “As men, we put a lot of pressure on ourselves to perform well,” Colton says. “….how hard can it be?” Don’t worry, Colton assures us, he’s experienced in other ways. He’s done basically everything but, lest we question his ability.

Chandra Wilson on Directing a Historic ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ Episode

On Thursday, February 28, Grey’s Anatomy will air its 332nd episode, officially making it the longest-running medical drama in TV history. It’s hard to imagine a world without this show, especially now that it’s in its fifteenth season. After all, four of its current characters—Meredith Grey, Miranda Bailey, Richard Weber, and Alex Karev—have been with us since the very beginning. You’ve probably know them longer than some of your friends.

It’s truly fitting, then, that one of those four—Chandra Wilson (Dr. Miranda Bailey)—is directing this historic episode. She describes the process of preparing for this week’s show as “exciting and scary,” given its significance. “It’s the silly pressure you put on yourself,” she tells Glamour. “But this was my twentieth episode of Grey’s that I’ve directed, so I must be doing OK.”

So what can viewers expect? “I had all of my ideas about things that I thought [were] important and that the audience might want to see and what would be a treat. But then my writers and my producers had another idea for what they thought it was about,” she says. “And we came up with something that I think, for the audience, is gonna say, ‘Guess what guys? We continue. There’s more to come. Nothing is over. Nothing is ended.'”

Wilson says longtime fans of the show should keep their eyes peeled for special details that may or may not call back to Grey’s history. “I know it was important to me to plant some [Easter eggs] because I think those things are so much fun for fans,” she says. I personally have my fingers crossed for a classic Bailey monologue, though my ultimate dream would be a Cristina Yang appearance, which probably won’t happen. Maybe Bailey will just say her name—that should tide us over until Killing Eve season two premieres in April.

One of the greatest things about a show’s staying on the air as long as Grey’s in the era of streaming is it has created a whole new generation of fans. “I had a young girl [around 20 years old] tell me, ‘My roommates and I watch [together].’ And that’s what happened at the beginning of our show: People would talk to us about getting together with their roommates or getting together with their family,” Wilson says. “And it’s a show that people don’t watch by themselves. They usually pull somebody else in with them. And I think that’s definitely what gives us our longevity.”

Getty Images

She continues, “We’re like a group effort. We’re an ensemble show, and people watch it as an ensemble and they are so invested in what happens to these characters. So whether it’s the OGs or whether it’s our new characters that come in, even if they don’t want to like somebody, they still stick around and say, ‘OK, but you know? Let me see. Let me see.'”

So does an OG like Wilson have a favorite Grey’s Anatomy moment? She loves the episodes in season six when a shooter is roaming the hospital and Dr. Bailey is trapped in a room with a patient (played by Mandy Moore). Her number-one favorite, though, is the pilot. “That’s the one that really established what this show was going to be, who these characters were,” she says. “And if I ever get confused about how I think Bailey should respond to something, I always think about that pilot and who she thought she was in the pilot—because that’s who she still thinks she is.”

Tune into Wilson’s episode of Grey’s tonight at 8:00 P.M. ET on ABC.

The Bachelor Season 23, Episode 8 Recap:

When Colton meets her family, it’s awkward and tense. Understandable, given that the last guy she brought home was her ex-husband. When Colton reveals he’s falling in love with Tayshia, her dad says, “That’s a strong word.” He digs in further, “How could you fall in love—if you are in love—with more than one person?” Colton stumbles through some answers before asking for the dad’s blessing. Tayshia’s father pauses. “I just met you,” he finally says. Then he does not give his blessing. A twist!

“I’m not marrying her father, but I am going to need his permission,” Colton grumbles. “I don’t know what I’m going to do.” You really don’t need his permission, Colton, but I live for this drama so let’s go with it. Also, it turns out Tayshia’s brother is on track to become an FBI agent. He casually jokes that he’ll hunt Colton down one day, so things are going well. Meanwhile, Tayshia’s dad asks what would happen if Colton proposed right now. She admits she’d say yes, and her dad scolds her: You can’t microwave relationships, he says. But then, before Colton and Tayshia leave, he tells them both he’s “content” with giving his blessing. Ugh, Dad, stand your ground!

Last up, Colton goes to Huntington Beach, California for Cassie. She teaches him how to surf. Kind of. I don’t know what Colton’s worse at: learning how to eat dinner rolls like a gentleman or learning how to surf.

During a break, Colton asks Cassie if she’s in love with him yet. She pauses and mutters, “Ummm.” After some more stuttering, she says she thinks she knows how she feels but she can’t say it yet. This is good enough for Colton, I guess, despite him telling us weeks earlier this is his greatest fear.

The visit with her family didn’t help, either. Her dad shrugs as he describes Colton as “you know, a guy.” Cassie admits to her sister she’s not ready to be engaged. Her sister is like, leave. When Cassie and her dad have a one-on-one chat, they quibble. He asks a few reasonable questions about why his daughter would get engaged to a man she met on a reality show, to which Cassie is all, “DaaAaaAdddduhhh, I know what I’m doing! Why don’t you trust me?!?” The dad’s like, “You are 23.”

(Side note, part two: I would like to point out that it’s insane for everyone to behave as if marriage is the only outcome here. Cassie is 23, of course she’s not sure about getting engaged. And that’s one-hundred percent fine. As Cassie’s dad puts it, “I think you need more than a couple random dates to fall in love with someone.”)

Colton asks Cassie’s dad for his permission, but he replies it would be premature to give his blessing. YES. Before he leaves, Colton asks Cassie again if she’s in love with him. She still can’t say it. Sir, this is what the other women warned you about. Yet he has “no clue” what to do.

When the women gather for the rose ceremony, Colton gives roses to Hannah, Tayshia, and Cassie. He walks the now-dumped Caelynn out, and she tells him she feels blindsided. She describes feeling stupid for having feelings that weren’t reciprocated, but Colton SAYS NOTHING. He just nods and gives her a weak hug. What a monster.

On the bright side, we will finally know why Colton jumps the fence next week! I can’t wait.

The Bachelor Season 23, Episode 7 Recap: Who's Telling the Truth?

After a week full of eliminations and not one, not two, but three warnings, tonight’s episode of The Bachelor was a little lower energy. Still, a lot went down so let’s get right into it, shall we? Spoilers ahead.

The episode opens with Colton filming a late-night video about his feelings. (So emo.) Long story short, he’s confused and upset because three different women warned him that some of the other dozens of women he’s dating aren’t ready for marriage. To be honest, this doesn’t feel like that groundbreaking of a reveal to me—statistically speaking, at least one woman there doesn’t want to marry a guy she’s known two weeks, right? But Colton says this is his “biggest fear.”

He has good news, though: “We’re heading to Denver!” Woo.

Once stateside, Colton meets up with former Bachelor Ben Higgins for a drink and “advice.” Colton needs it: The hometown dates are next week, so the stakes! Are! High! Oh, and he’s falling in love with multiple people and feels weird about it. Ben’s advice? “Lean in!” (My advice would be “yes, that is weird which is why you should just pick one,” but nobody’s asking me.)

When Colton joins the women later that day, he brings his dog, Sniper, along. Their first reaction upon seeing Sniper is “OMG DOG!” I don’t think they even notice that Colton’s there too, which…yeah, that feels right. Unfortunately instead of more Sniper content, Colton has to take one of the women on a date.

Josh Vertucci

Tayshia is the chosen one, and their date consists of sitting in the loudest food market of all time. Seriously, I could barely heard their conversation—so what a convenient, not-at-all annoying place and time for Tayshia to drop the “I know who isn’t ready for marriage” bomb. At first, Tayshia tells Colton she’s not going to name any names because she’s not a tattletale. Then, not two seconds later, she’s all, “It’s Cassie and Caelynn!!!”

She claims she heard through the grapevine they were talking about their Bachelorette chances and all the parties they’ll get to attend after the show ends. Again, this isn’t that big of a reveal—even the winners go to events after the show ends. Who cares? I don’t think Colton does, but he is listening when Tayshia says they’re not ready to get engaged.

This throws Colton off, but he puts it on the back burner to concentrate on enjoying the rest of the date. He takes Tayshia to his apartment, where they play games and talk about hometowns. She says her family, dad especially, might be tough because they’re still processing her divorce. This doesn’t phase Colton, and he gives her the rose. They end the night making out in his room, which he describes as the spot “where the magic doesn’t happen.”

The next day, Colton takes Caelynn snowboarding. It’s uneventful—until he tells her about the conversation with Tayshia. It’s all a lie, Caelynn insists. Once she’s away from Colton, she tells a producer, “Dude, I better get a rose because I will call that bitch out.”

When they meet up later for dinner, Colton cries because he’s so confused. Caelynn assures him that she’s there for him and ready to be engaged. She feels like she can be herself with him, she says, and it’s scary that a lie could compromise that. She was planning to tell him, before all of this happened, that she’s falling in love. This reassures Colton, and he gives her the rose and says he’s falling in love too.

The next morning, Caelynn confronts Tayshia. When asked why she would call her out, Tayshia claims everyone noticed that she and Cassie were the most nervous after Katie warned Colton. So, she says, they’re probably the guilty ones. “If I really wanted to talk smack about you,” she adds, “I would be talking smack about you every single day, but I haven’t.” That’s her evidence? Tayshia doesn’t seem like a liar to me—but those receipts are weeeeaaaak.

The Bachelor Season 23, Episode 6 Recap: Is Anybody Here for the Right Reasons?

Be warned: Spoilers for The Bachelor ahead.

This week’s Bachelor episode skipped the usual Colton-is-shirtless-omg montage and started in media res with Onyeka and Nicole’s drama. There’s a lot going on. Colton’s pacing the beach; the women are shocked and confused; Onyeka and Nicole are, somehow, still fighting over who’s the bigger bully.

What a perfect time for the rose ceremony! Nicole whispers a prayer and crosses herself. The roses go to Caelynn, Tayshia, Kirpa, Demi, Hannah G., Katie, and Sydney. That means, you guessed it, Onyeka and Nicole are eliminated. They’re both sad to go—but happy the other one isn’t staying.

The next morning, Colton wanders around the beach, brooding. (Guess I spoke too soon about no shirtless moments.) This mood doesn’t last too long, though, because things are looking up: They’re in Vietnam now, and he’s got a hot date with Hannah G. to look forward to.

They go to a day spa, where Colton spends the whole time either making out with Hannah G. or talking about how much Hannah G. turns him on. (“I would eat that sushi roll,” he jokes, about her.) They make out in a mud bath. They make out in the shower. At one point, they make out on a massage table so vigorously that I would not blame the fine people of Vietnam if they built a wall to keep American reality stars out.

Colton and Hannah G. spent so much time making out, they don’t really talk until dinner that night. Hannah G. warns Colton that opening up is not her “jam,” but he suggests that it can be a good, healthy thing to do in relationships. So, she talks about her parent’s divorce and the first time she realized they were no longer a family. She gets the rose.

Back at the resort, the women find out Cassie, Heather, Tayshia, Caelynn, Katie, Hannah B., Sydney, and Demi will be going on this week’s group date. (Kirpa has the next one-on-one.) There are a few disappointed tears about losing out on a solo date—even Demi, the world’s most confident woman, cries.

The women learn Vovinam, a Vietnamese martial art—in other words, one of those competition dates that pits the women against each other. And so, I’m not going to spend too much time on it. Just know there were some giggles, some punches, and Demi had a minor freak out after she got punched in the face. Even Colton is like yeeesh, I regret this.

That night, everyone is feeling insecure about their relationship status. I keep coming back to The Bachelor, but I have to question my commitment after watching a beautiful pageant contestant tell a scoop of vanilla ice cream, “I’m sooOoOoO wEiRddDDd! How will you ever love me?!” A variation of this happens every season, and it is increasingly hard to stomach.

That said, he is very sweet with Demi when she asks if they can call her mom, who has just been released from prison.

His time with Sydney, however, does not go as well. She complains he’s taking “easier choices” with the people he’s pursuing, but I’m not sure what that means—isn’t a smooth, happy relationship the goal here? Whatever, Sydney is leaving and she drops some advice on her way out: “There are wonderful people in that group. Find them. Don’t get distracted by shiny things.”

Colton puts her suggestion into action right away, giving Tayshia the group date rose because she keeps “challenging” him.

The next day is Kirpa’s solo date, but the most memorable thing about it is the fact that her mysterious bandage is gone. (PS: Colton told us the story behind that.) There’s not much to say other than Kirpa reveals she was engaged before—he was a virgin too, FWIW—but it ended when their relationship grew stagnant. Colton acknowledges that he and Kirpa are moving slower than the others, but he gives her the rose anyway.
