Jennifer Aniston Tells Ellen DeGeneres That a ‘Friends’ Reunion is a Possibility


During her appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show on Friday, Jennifer Aniston informed the audience that a Friends reunion is not out of the question—despite what her former cast members have said recently. It’s not a confirmation that the cast of the ’90s smash hit will come together in that giant Manhattan apartment again anytime soon, but it’s the glimmer of hope we’ve been waiting on for 14 years.

DeGeneres and Aniston were discussing her upcoming return to television in a new series with Reese Witherspoon, which is still untitled but will explore behind the scenes of the New York media, specifically morning talk shows. Aniston revealed that the series was already bought for two seasons and will premiere on Apple’s new network.

Once they finished discussing the project and the audience started to applaud, Aniston and DeGeneres clapped along in the rhythm of the Friends theme song, “I’ll Be There for You,” by The Rembrandts.

“That’s the clap from the song,” Aniston told DeGeneres.

“What song?” the host asked.

“The Friends theme song,” Aniston said. After a pause she asked a crew member, “You’ll edit this, right?”

DeGeneres took the opportunity to tell the actress that she and her former cast mates should get together and film a reunion: “Is it a possibility? It is even in the realm of possibilities?”

“Anything is a possibility, Ellen,” Aniston said. “Anything! Right?” She went on to say, “I mean, George Clooney got married! That’s like anything can happen. I think it’s wonderful.”

This is contrary to what some of her former co-stars have said recently after being asked about the trailer for a fake film called Friends: The Movie that went viral. David Schwimmer appeared on Meghan Kelly Today and when Kelly asked about the possibility of a reunion he said he doubts it will ever happen. “Look, the thing is, I just don’t know if I want to see all of us with crutches [and] walkers,” he explained.

Lisa Kudrow was recently a guest on Conan and said that she doesn’t know if a reboot of the show would work. “I mean, that was about people in their 20s, 30s. Well, the show isn’t about people in their 40s, 50s. And if we have the same problems, then that’s just sad,” she said.

Break our hearts, why don’t you? We like Aniston’s answer much better.

Ellen Pompeo Is About to Make $20 Million a Year—and She Isn't Afraid to Talk About It


It’s a new day in Hollywood—one when women are not afraid or embarrassed to speak out about the money they make, or aren’t making in the recent cases of Catt Sadler and Michelle Williams.

So it’s incredibly refreshing to hear another very public woman, Ellen Pompeo, open up about with pride about becoming dramatic television’s highest-paid actress. Most of us know the actress for her long-running role as Meredith Grey on the Shonda Rhimes‘ behemoth, Grey’s Anatomy. (And yes, people, it is still on the air and doing very well, thank you very much.) In a new Hollywood Reporter story, Pompeo gets real about how she got to her new contract (worth more than $20 million a year) and the struggles, both internal and external, along the way.

“I’m 48 now, so I’ve finally gotten to the place where I’m OK asking for what I deserve, which is something that comes only with age,” she opens, going on to describe that while she might not be perceived as “relevant” or buzzy these days, she’s been good at her role for 14 years which she (rightly) counts as a serious accomplishment. She may not have become the movie star she once thought she’d be, but the business and her financial freedom is way more important. Pompeo credits Rhimes with empowering her to ask for what she believes she deserves—no small feat for many women in the world, famous or not. Says Rhimes, “As a woman, what I know is you can’t approach anything from a point of view of ‘I don’t deserve’ or ‘I’m not going to ask for because I don’t want other people to get upset.’ And I know for a fact that when men go into these negotiations, they go in hard and ask for the world.”

Pompeo also says the departure of Patrick Dempsey in 2015 opened a door for her on the negotiations front. In the past, he could be leveraged against her in a “we have Patrick, we don’t need you” way that she says happened for years. “At one point, I asked for $5,000 more than him just on principle, because the show is Grey’s Anatomy and I’m Meredith Grey. They wouldn’t give it to me. And I could have walked away, so why didn’t I? It’s my show; I’m the number one. I’m sure I felt what a lot of these other actresses feel: Why should I walk away from a great part because of a guy? You feel conflicted but then you figure, ‘I’m not going to let a guy drive me out of my own house.'” Damn, straight.

As Pompeo knew to be true, the show survived. And now she’s got an insanely lucrative contract and back-end deal, producing and directing credits, and real power. But even when she felt empowered and supported by her boss, she worried about looking greedy by asking for too much. “But CAA compiled a list of stats for me, and Grey’s has generated nearly $3 billion for Disney. When your face and your voice have been part of something that’s generated $3 billion for one of the biggest corporations in the world, you start to feel like, ‘OK, maybe I do deserve a piece of this.'”

She wants to set an example for other women to seize their moments too. And we can all take that example to heart, even those of us whose paychecks are made up of far fewer zeros. And while she doesn’t think that the only solution to the imbalance is more women in power, Pompeo does think it is something that should happen. It’s the kind of work environment she knows and has learned from, thanks to Shonda Rhimes. “And now my eight-year-old daughter gets to come here and see fierce females in charge. She loves to sit in the director’s chair with the headphones on yelling “Action” and “Cut.” She’s growing up in an environment where she’s completely comfortable with power. I don’t know any other environment in Hollywood where I could provide that for her. Now I hope that changes…and soon.”

We need more women to speak this frankly about finances and the often cruel imbalances of power if we ever hope to make real and lasting changes in the pay gap. So well done, Mer.

Ellen DeGeneres Hilariously Hits Back at Eric Trump’s Absurd Conspiracy Theory


We already knew that the Trump brothers love a good Twitter fight, which was only amplified earlier this week when Eric Trump took to Twitter to accuse national treasure Ellen DeGeneres of being involved in the “deep state” of America (or, a group of influential people who are allegedly trying to take down his father, President Donald Trump, from office. “Crooked Hillary” Clinton and President Barack Obama are also persons of interest, naturally) based on the fact that Twitter’s algorithm suggested he follow her along with the aforementioned politicians. DeGeneres, ever the ray of sunshine that she is, thinks this is absolutely hilarious and has made her amusement known.

On Wednesday’s episode of The Ellen DeGeneres Show, DeGeneres dedicated her usual opening monologue to Trump, playfully admitting that—what a shock—the deep state rumors aren’t true. She just doesn’t have the time or the resources, folks. “I’m sorry to disappoint you. I am not part of the deep state. I’m honored that you think I’m powerful enough to be part of a government conspiracy,” she began. “Even if somebody wanted me to be involved, I don’t have that kind of time. I’ve got my gay agenda meetings on Monday, and on Wednesday, Beyoncé and I host an Illuminati brunch. And then Portia [de Rossi, her wife] and I on the weekends are desperately trying to have a baby. So, I can’t.”

What’s most ridiculous about her name floating around a secret government conspiracy, she says, is that “no one has undermined Donald Trump more than Donald Trump.” You know, not her.

In fact, the reason Twitter suggested Eric Trump to follow DeGeneres, she reasonably reckons, is because both of his sisters—Ivanka and Tiffany—follow her already. “Maybe you should follow me, because I post a lot of cute videos,” said said, queuing up a video of a cat massaging a dog. (Iconic!) “We might not agree on politics, but I think we can both agree this is cute.”

She’s not wrong, Eric.

Ellen Page and Emma Portner Just Got Married


Ellen Page is known for being a low-key and down-to-earth star, but it’s still surprising to learn that she somehow kept a massive secret from her fans. How massive? Oh, you know, just the fact that she married her partner, Emma Portner.

The couple revealed the news on Instagram on Wednesday with a simple, beautiful shot of their hands wearing a wedding band on each of their ring fingers. Page shared a few additional images of her and Portner in what looked to be a wooded area where they lovingly sat together and kissed. “Can’t believe I get to call this extraordinary woman my wife,” Page captioned the slideshow. Fans were thrilled with the announcement—the post racked up more than 50,000 likes in under an hour—though no word yet on when, or where, the pair actually tied the knot.

According to People, the couple first went public with their relationship last summer, when Page began sharing images of Portner, a teacher at the Broadway Dance Center, to her Instagram account. According to her biography, Portner’s “…performance and choreography appear in Justin Bieber’s ‘Life Is Worth Living’ video as well as on his Purpose World Tour,” so yeah, she’s awesome.

And truly, it appears Page is happier now than ever before. In September, she told Diva Magazine, “Everything is different,” since coming out in 2014.

“From one day to the next [after coming out], I felt a happiness and an inner peace which I hadn’t known for years. My life now is overwhelming, and I’m glad to be in a position where I can support my community and also help show that you can still play all kinds of roles after you are out.” The actress added that now things in the LGBTQ community are changing fast and that the “more people who come out will ultimately help put an end to the idea that coming out destroys your career. We have to make that happen.”

Ellen DeGeneres Will Donate Money Every Time Someone Tweets #BeKindToElephants


Ellen DeGeneres is standing up for elephants by taking a stand against President Donald Trump.

On Thursday, DeGeneres took time during her show to explain to her massive audience that Trump plans to reverse an Obama-era ban on importing elephant trophies from Zimbabwe and Zambia.

“I want to talk about the elephant in the room. Literally, I want to talk about elephants,” DeGeneres said in a clip posted to Twitter.

After explaining Trump’s new policies on allowing people to bring parts of elephants back to the U.S. that were killed as trophies, DeGeneres argued, “Basically, by lifting this ban, he is encouraging Americans to kill elephants.”

The host added, “I love elephants, and if you take the time to learn about elephants, you would love elephants, too. Elephants show compassion, sympathy, social intelligence, self-awareness. They’re excellent at learning abilities. All the things I have yet to see in this president.”

To help combat this horrific policy reversal DeGeneres announced a new social media campaign aimed at raising both awareness of elephant poaching and raising funds for the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust, a nonprofit that benefits African elephants.

With the campaign, DeGeneres said she will donate an undisclosed amount for every person who uses the #BeKindToElephants hashtag and reshares the image she created.

“If you’re not outraged, then I beg you to take a little time just to learn about elephants,” DeGeneres said while ending the clip. “They are worth fighting for, and we owe it to them to protect them.”

According to the World Wildlife Fund, African elephants are still listed as “vulnerable” to extinction. Their population, the WWF explained, plays a critical role in maintaining suitable habitats for many other species. It added, “In central African forests, up to 30 percent of tree species may require elephants to help with dispersal and germination. They play a pivotal role in shaping their habitat because of the enormous impact they have on factors ranging from fresh water to forest cover.”

But as the organization said, elephant populations are already in severe danger due to recent surges in poaching, something that surely will not be helped by opening the door for more trophy hunting.

Ellen Page Says Brett Ratner Sexually Harassed and Outed Her


In a powerful Facebook post calling out abuse in Hollywood, actress Ellen Page has accused director Brett Ratner of sexually harassing and outing her on the set of X-Men: The Last Stand.

“‘You should fuck her to make her realize she’s gay,'” she wrote. “[Ratner] said this about me during a cast and crew ‘meet and greet’ before we began filming, X Men: The Last Stand. I was eighteen years old. He looked at a woman standing next to me, ten years my senior, pointed to me and said: ‘You should fuck her to make her realize she’s gay.'”

Ellen said that no one, including herself, said anything at the time. But the alleged outing (a homophobic act when done without someone’s permission), she wrote, has left her “with long standing feelings of shame, one of the most destructive results of homophobia.” “Making someone feel ashamed of who they are is a cruel manipulation, designed to oppress and repress,” she wrote. “I was robbed of more than autonomy over my ability to define myself. Ratner’s comment replayed in my mind many times over the years as I encountered homophobia and coped with feelings of reluctance and uncertainty about the industry and my future in it.”

The alleged incident took place toward the beginning of Ellen’s career. But now that she has considerably more fame and influence, Ellen said she intends to take a stand against such behavior. “The difference is that I can now assert myself and use my voice to to fight back against the insidious queer and transphobic attitude in Hollywood and beyond,” she continued. “Hopefully having the position I have, I can help people who may be struggling to be accepted and allowed to be who they are –to thrive. Vulnerable young people without my advantages are so often diminished and made to feel they have no options for living the life they were meant to joyously lead.”

In the post, Ellen revealed more details of Ratner’s alleged abuse of power, including “saying degrading things to women” and trying to intimidate her when she refused to wear a T-shirt that said “Team Ratner.” She also shared alleged experiences of sexual harassment and assault by others in the industry. When she was 16, she says she was sexually assaulted by a grip, fondled on her leg by a director, and then asked by a director to sleep with a man in his 20s and “tell them” about the experience, which she says she refused to do.

Ellen used the rest of the post to call out the insidiousness and ubiquity of sexual abuse in both Hollywood and society, before reminding us that low-income, trans, queer, and/or indigenous women, as well as women of color, are disproportionally victimized. She also credited these women with leading the fight against systemic violence against women, naming Marsha P. Johnson, Sylvia Rivera, Winona LaDuke, Miss Major, Audre Lorde, bell hooks, and Misty Upham.

As more victims of sexual harassment and assault speak out, Ellen says she hopes abusers will face consequences and societal changes will be made to keep them from hurting people further. “I want to see these men have to face what they have done,” she wrote. “I want them to not have power anymore. I want them to sit and think about who they are without their lawyers, their millions, their fancy cars, houses upon houses, their ‘playboy’ status and swagger.”

“What I want the most, is for this to result in healing for the victims,” she continued. “For Hollywood to wake up and start taking some responsibility for how we all have played a role in this. I want us to reflect on this endemic issue and how this power dynamic of abuse leads to an enormous amount of suffering.”

Ellen concluded the post by telling us not to let the amount of victims speaking out to “numb” us to the issue. “Don’t allow this behavior to be normalized. Don’t compare wrongs or criminal acts by their degrees of severity. Don’t allow yourselves to be numb to the voices of victims coming forward,” she said. “Don’t stop demanding our civil rights. I am grateful to anyone and everyone who speaks out against abuse and trauma they have suffered. You are breaking the silence. You are revolution.”
