Jenna Dewan's New Netflix Series Soundtrack Is So Good She Signed on Without Reading a Script

It’s been a busy year for Jenna Dewan. She celebrated her first anniversary with boyfriend Steve Kazee, announced her pregnancy, and released a personal memoir, Gracefully You. On screen, Dewan starred in romantic dramedies The Wedding Year and Berlin, I Love You, served as a mentor on NBC’s World of Dance, and guest starred on The Resident.

As if those weren’t time-consuming enough, now she’s about to star in one of her most ambitious and creative projects to date: Soundtrack, a modern day musical that combines Dewan’s love of dance, acting, and song. It premieres on Wednesday, December 18 on Netflix.

“I’ve done dance numbers on stage, in movies, and on different shows,” Dewan tells Glamour, “but I’ve never done it within an acting scene, where the song was going to portray the emotions of the character in the moment.” So when creator Josh Safran told her about his idea—a show that includes musical numbers, dramatic moments, and intersecting love stories set in Los Angeles—she knew she wanted to be a part of it. “I didn’t even need to see a script.”

It was welcome news to Safran, who wrote the role with Dewan in mind. After a general meeting with her, Safran say, he knew she was a fit. “I fell in love with her and was like, ‘Done. That’s it,'” he explains. For Dewan, the feeling was mutual: “I signed on strictly because I love Josh and the idea.”

Here, Dewan talks about Soundtrack, making out with herself on the show (yes, you read that right), and more.

The *A Star Is Born* Soundtrack Is Finally Here, and Twitter Is Off the Deep End

Fans knew from Lady Gaga’s incredible vocal runs on “Shallow” that the full soundtrack for A Star Is Born would be incredible. Well, it dropped at midnight on Friday (October 5) to coincide with the movie’s nationwide premiere, and, yes, the rumors are true: It’s an Oscar-contending work of art, and Twitter will never be the same.

Actually, the hype began in the wee hours leading up to the album drop. Little Monsters swarmed Twitter, declaring the A Sound Is Born soundtrack the greatest album of the past three years before it even came out. But fans’ pre-release excitement had nothing on their reactions to the album itself. If tweets are to be believed, literally everyone has been streaming this soundtrack on repeat since midnight. How fans are listening to the soundtrack varies, though: A few have only been listening to “I’ll Never Love Again,” while one user said they’ve listened to everything but “I’ll Never Love Again,” so that they can experience it for the first time in theaters.

That’s not the only song that has fans absolutely losing it. It looks like the intentionally over-manufactured pop tune “Hair Body Face” is a surprise hit, which only proves that Lady Gaga achieves perfection even when she’s trying to do the exact opposite.

If you haven’t heard it yet (which begs the question, um, why the hell not?), it’s available on all major streaming services. You can also experience it the way it’s intended to be, in theaters everywhere.

Peep the reactions, below:

Is Beyoncé Appearing on the 'Black Panther' Soundtrack? Fans Are Convinced

Beyoncé was not playing games with her fashion this weekend at the Grammys. She wore not one, not two, but three outfits over the course of the weekend that slew her fans to their core. And there was a common thread among all of them. For one, all three dresses she chose were black, but the tie was deeper than that: They each referenced, in some way, black panthers.

Let’s start with this first outfit, below. Flip through the post, and you’ll notice her earrings are shaped like panthers.

Now, for the look she rocked at the Clive Davis pre-Grammy gala on Saturday night: It’s head-to-toe black, with a curve silhouette that seems very pantherlike.

And, of course, there was this look from the actual Grammys ceremony. Beyoncé paired her all-black dress with a clutch shaped like—you guessed it—a panther.

So what does this all mean? Possibly nothing, but Beyoncé doesn’t do anything by accident. She gave several hints about Lemonade before it dropped, and fans think she’s suggesting something with these looks too: that she’s involved with the new Black Panther film in some way.

It makes sense, when you think about it. First off, the timing is right: Black Panther hits theaters nationwide on February 16, so Bey’s looks might be subtle ramp-up for the film. That said, it could also be a reference to the Black Panther Party: Bey reportedly paid homage to the Black Panthers during her 2016 Super Bowl halftime show appearance.

But fans think this means Bey makes an appearance on the upcoming Black Panther soundtrack, specifically, because the track list, save for two songs, is still unknown. Maybe Queen B appears multiple times on the soundtrack, like Kendrick Lamar. It’s certainly possible.

Here are just some of the fans who’re convinced Beyoncé is sending a Marvel message with her looks:

Fingers crossed this is true. There are a million reasons why this would be amazing, but the number-one is that we desperately need new Beyoncé music.
