Lady Gaga Might Have a Makeup Line Called 'Haus Beauty' Coming


Going from making music to making makeup isn’t an obvious jump, but the beauty industry is up for anything, especially when it comes in the form of a rumored Lady Gaga makeup line on the horizon. Not much is confirmed at this point, but according to Harper’s Bazaar, Lady Gaga’s company, Ate My Heart Inc., filed for the trademark to “Haus Beauty” this February, so a beauty line could be on the way from the singer.

Going by the filing, Haus Beauty could potentially bring us products in 38 different categories. This might sound familiar, because it feels like every celebrity is getting into the beauty world these days. Celebrity perfumes are nothing new (even Shawn Mendes has one at this point), but the recent trademarks go beyond that and cover so much more. Alone, Haus Beauty reserved the right to explore everything from foundation and eyebrow colors to face masks, massage oils, and self-tanner. Gwen Stefani’s recent filing to trademark P8NT also reserved 52 beauty products, while Serena Williams’ Aneres filing covers 18 beauty categories. There’s no guarantee anything will happen, but if it does, it might be coming avalanche-style.

Gaga hasn’t commented on the line so far, but comments have already started piling up inquiring about just what it could look like. “Please let your new makeup line be cruelty free with vegan options,” wrote one Instagram user, followed by a comment asking for more than 30 foundation shades. With Gaga’s dedication to inclusion, it’s just a waiting game to see what she comes up with—that is, if she runs with it at all (TBT Blue Ivy’s rumored hair care line).

Because the internet is what it is, people have already started wondering how it could stack up to the other female musician-led beauty brands out there.

But for the most part, people are psyched by the thought.

However: Some Gaga fans say they’ll believe it when they see it, especially knowing Gaga’s past.

Still, Gaga’s love for a beauty moment is well-documented. If she comes out with a lipstick you can apply while flying, we’ll talk.

'The Handmaid's Tale' Is Officially Coming Back For a Third Season


Praise be: The Handmaid’s Tale is returning for a third season.

Hulu broke this news at its Upfronts presentation in New York City on Wednesday (May 2). Not much information about the third chapter is known at this time. After all, season two just premiered last week—to a monster audience, according to The Hollywood Reporter—and much of that is still shrouded in secrecy. Because Margaret Atwood only wrote one Handmaid’s Tale book, what’s going to happen in season two is still a mystery—which makes season three’s plot even more of a question mark.

Regardless of what happens, though, this is exciting news. The Handmaid’s Tale is one of the most poignant shows on television right now. It features an A-list crop of actors—including Elisabeth Moss, Alexis Bledel, Ann Dowd, and, this season, Marisa Tomei—and narratives that particularly resonate in our current political climate. What The Handmaid’s Tale says about how our culture treats women is something everyone needs to see. It’s necessary viewing.

We’re only two episodes into The Handmaid’s Tale season two at this point. June/Offred (Moss) has—spoiler alert—escaped from Gilead and is hiding out in the abandoned Boston Globe office. She’s still expecting a baby with Nick, a former Gilead Eye, and their relationship’s been nothing short of passionate—both in good and bad ways. Meanwhile, Emily (Bledel) is imprisoned in the Colonies and serving as a makeshift doctor to the sick women there. Interspersed with these present-day narratives are iteresting flashbacks that offer more detail about how America became Gilead. The scene where a doctor questions June about her parenting “fitness” because she let her daughter go to school with a fever is very eerie to watch.

Coming to Netflix in May 2018: 89 Movies and TV Shows Sliding Into Your Streams


If you’ve ever wondered, even once, “When is High School Musical 3 coming to Netflix?!” then today is your day. That’s right: High School Musical 3: Senior Year is sliding into your streaming queue come May 1, which means you can watch swoopy-haired Zac Efron and Vanessa Hudgens make heart eyes at each other to your heart’s content. Grey's Anatomy Is Coming Back for a 15th Season—and Setting a Major Record on the Way


Grey’s Anatomy has been around for a whopping 14 seasons, and honestly, there have been so many ups and downs and rollercoasters and heart-wrenching moments and steamy sexing sessions and just…emotions that it would take far too much time to recount the best of them here. Who even has the stamina for that kind of writing? Besides, it’s better look to the future than to the past—and as it turns out, the future means we can look forward to season 15 of Grey’s Anatomy Hallelujah, everyone.

ABC, the show’s home—and where it ranks No. 1 for primetime dramas among adults 18-49—announced on Friday that it would be renewing Shonda Rhimes’ famous hospital show for yet another season. That means, says ABC, that Grey’s is going to be ABC’s longest-running primetime drama series, and (here’s a watercooler fact) only seven TV dramas have ever run for longer. The current season, its 14th, is currently the most-watched in four years, so fans, the execs at ABC heard you. And they delivered.

The news isn’t exactly what you’d call a surprise: Grey’s is the series that keeps on giving to the audience and accountants alike, so whether it was going to be up for cancellation or not wasn’t up for debate. But any good news is good news in 2018—or whatever year it is on Grey’s—so we’re especially stoked about this.

We don’t yet know when it will begin filming, but you can bet we’ll keep you posted as we know more. In the meantime, at least Grey’s spin-off Station 19 is here to keep us company.

150 Beauty Products Made for Dark Skin Are Coming to Target


For years, women of color have had to search high and low for makeup that properly blends and matches our skin tones, and as the beauty industry continues to make major shifts toward diversity, Target has joined the list of retailers working to ease the plight of brown girls everywhere. Beginning today, eight new diverse cosmetic brands will be available online at target.com—with the in-store options landing on May 20. In total, the retailer is adding 150 more products that are aimed specifically toward medium to dark skin; including eyeshadows, lipsticks, and highlighters, along with more than 60 shades of foundation.

While the lines are pre-existing, Target reps say that it was a lengthy process to determine which eight made the cut; which includes Coloured Raine, EveryHue Beauty, Haleys, Hue Noir, Makeup Geek, Reina Rebelde, The Lip Bar, and Violet Voss. The biggest consideration was that each had to be owned by people of color. That way, the products are coming straight from those who not only know what’s missing in the market, but also know exactly how to satisfy those needs.

According to Christina Hennington, Target senior vice president of beauty and essentials, the retailer is also working closely with each of the brands to help market them for success. Like, for example, making sure they have the infrastructure in place to handle the massive demand that comes from selling at such a big box store. (This is also why Hennington says they’ll be rolling out limited numbers at first, just to ensure the demand doesn’t harmfully overextend the brands.)

These lines, of course, are not the first multi-cultural brands to be stocked on the shelves at Target. Instead, this move highlights how retailers are now deepening their commitment to having more inclusive offerings—and not just hidden away in the back corners of the beauty aisle. “We went from having nothing but a wall of relaxers in the back of the store to assortments that speak to every hair and skin type, with messaging that’s inclusive,” said SheaMoisture owner Richelieu Dennis during an inclusive beauty panel hosted by Target today in Manhattan.

Jasmin Foster, Target’s senior beauty buyer, says the products will be featured in prominent displays on the end of beauty aisles—which is considered prime real estate for a beauty brand, given that there’s a stronger chance shoppers will see your product. While product testers are still just a pipe dream, in-store, brand-led events are also on the way to give shoppers the chance to test products and find shade matches. And as of today, Target’s website lets you filter by foundation shade—think Sephora’s Shade IQ program, but for mass brands.

Above all, Target is making inclusive beauty more accessible. Where a Fenty foundation or shade from Make Up For Ever falls in the $30 to $45 range, everything from these brands will cost between $10 to $25. The reason? Because women of color have been demanding it. “Social media is holding the industry to task and saying diversity is a need,” EveryHue Beauty co-founder Gizelle Bryant said at the inclusivity panel. And from whence it came, the response has been overwhelmingly positive:

Kim Kardashian Kimoji Perfumes Are Coming for Valentine's Day


When Kim Kardashian entered the perfume world last November, her crystal-themed line sold out in days. As a master of hype, the sell-out didn’t come as a huge surprise. After a few weeks of teasing the scents’ Insta-ready crystal bottles (on top of crystals for good measure), people were clearly ready to buy scent unsniffed and the line made $10 million dollars in one day. Now, Kardashian is launching a trio of Kimoji Heart fragrances, and to say they’re Insta gold is putting it lightly.

Kardashian posted our first look at the coming perfumes on Instagram, with the caption, “Will you be our Valentine? @kimoji Heart fragrances coming 02.01 ?KKWFRAGRANCE.COM.” Going by KKW Fragrance’s Instagram, there will be three Kimoji Heart perfumes, each in a pastel, candy-heart shaped bottle. The pink is named “BFF,” the purple, “Ride or Die,” and the mint, “BAE.”

Other than the domain name, the Kimoji Heart line looks like a distant second cousin to the Crystal family (then again, given the Kar-Jenner clan, a distant second cousin could become a major player at any moment)‬. It’s a clear 180 from her first line’s L.A.-luxe aesthetic, and commenters were quick to point out the divide. On the “BAE” note, one commenter wrote that Kim “definitely did not check with Kanye” (it recently came out that Kanye has an un-subtle hand in Kardashian West’s wardrobe). But scroll through the KKW Fragrance Instagram feed, and this was clearly a plotted-out aesthetic pivot. A photo of candy hearts popped up a few weeks ago:

The brand hasn’t dropped pricing details yet, but given that it’s coming to KKW Beauty’s fragrance website on February 1, the cost will likely compare to the brand’s $60 fragrances, rather than go into the slightly cheaper Kimoji price range. Commenters have started speculating that the perfumes will smell like candy, but without word from the brand, it’s hard to guess where Kim will take us next.
