Nick Jonas Nearly Broke Priyanka Chopra's Number-One Relationship Rule—Twice

In a new Instagram post from Thursday, December 20, Nick Jonas revealed Priyanka Chopra’s number-one relationship rule: never step on the train of her dress. More importantly, he then shared two examples of times he almost broke it.

“Rule number one… never step on her train,” Jonas posted to Instagram alongside two photos. The first is of Chopra and Jonas at the 2017 Met Gala. Sure enough, Jonas is standing very close to the infamously-long train of the Ralph Lauren trench coat she wore that night. Right below this is a photo the couple took during their wedding festivities the weekend of November 30. For their Americanized wedding ceremony—they also had a Hindu one—Chopra opted for another Ralph Lauren ensemble with a dangerously long train. And, yet again, Jonas nearly stepped on it. Click here to see the Instagram post for yourself.

Almost, of course, is the key word there. Both of Chopra’s stunning looks went off without a hitch, and she praised Jonas in the comments section of his post for keeping his distance both times. “you always knew mister,” she wrote, according to Us Weekly. (This is, obviously, a playful rule Chopra has—not an actual one.)

It’s been a whirlwind few weeks for Chopra and Jonas, who had a multi-day wedding celebration at the Umaid Bhawan Palace in Jodhpur, India. The couple is back in India this week for two more wedding receptions.

“This has been an extremely special chapter in my life, and I wanted my husband to meet all the special people who have contributed to it,” Chopra said at the reception on Wednesday, December 19. “Thank you so much for being here, friends of my parents, my mom—who’s hosting this wonderful evening—my dad, who I know is here, thank you so much for coming and giving your blessing.”

Meghan Markle Broke Royal Protocol With Her Nail Polish at the British Fashion Awards

December 10, 2018 6:40 pm

We already know Meghan Markle is unafraid to rock a messy bun, no matter how critical fussy royal watchers might be of her protocol-breaking signature style. And after the British Fashion Awards, we can add another entry to the list of ways the Duchess of Sussex is doing this whole royalty thing her own way.

Markle made a surprise appearance at the 2018 award show on Monday to honor Clare Waight Keller, the designer of her wedding dress. She wore a one-shouldered Givenchy gown, a low hair bun, and dark nail polish that broke with a longstanding royal beauty “rule.”

Typically, royals (including Markle’s sister-in-law Kate Middleton) will wear pale shades of polish on their well-manicured nails for official appearances. The reason? Rumor has it that Queen Elizabeth II prefers it that way because she finds colorful nail polish—even if it’s a classic, non-trendy shade—vulgar. Her Majesty herself has been wearing Essie’s Ballet Slippers for decades. And so far, the Duchess of Sussex has played it pretty by-the-book on this front… until tonight.

She was attending a fashion event, after all—and an award-show setting that must have reminded Markle of her past life as an actress. The dark (maybe even black) polish color looked amazing with her one-shouldered gown and gold bangles—and was far from vulgar, to be sure, as you can see in the close-up below.

Given that press critical of Markle has basically become a cottage industry, we’re sure to hear from some naysayers—however, Twitter was pretty excited to see her change up her mani. “Good on Meghan for not only wearing nail polish that isn’t pink but a bold dark color,” one user wrote. “Mannnn, Meghan Markle DGAF! LOOK AT THE BEAUTY!!! HER BUMP! HER DRESSSSSSS!!! Black nail polish too? I STAN A GORGEOUS REBEL!” said another.

We also wholeheartedly approve—and are keeping our fingers crossed for a festive cherry red sometime this holiday season.

10 Times Meghan Markle Broke Royal Protocol With Her Fashion

Meghan Markle is often described as a “royal rule-breaker,” which is both true and not true: Yes, the Duchess of Sussex does have a habit of breaking with royal tradition when it comes to her speech and even her wedding. However, there’s no exact rulebook. Markle isn’t disregarding hard-and-fast protocols, per se, but more so challenging the way things have been done in the royal family for years.

People often cite Markle’s fashion choices when they talk about her breaking royal rules, and although the former Suits star has veered away from tradition when it comes to her clothes, at the end of the day stylists wouldn’t let her wear something inappropriate. She’s simply just reimagining what it means to be a chic royal in the modern world—and we’re so here for that. Below, here are 10 times Markle’s style broke tradition.

Ariana Grande Broke Her Silence on Pete Davidson With the Shadiest Tweets

Ariana Grande and Pete Davidson’s whirlwind relationship ended in mid-October when news broke they were calling off their engagement. The Sweetener singer hasn’t said anything specific about the uncoupling—until now, at least. On Thursday night (November 1), she finally broke her silence on Davidson in a series of pointed tweets.

Here’s what happened: a Grande fan circulated a promo for this weekend’s Saturday Night Live on Twitter in which Davidson proposes to singer Maggie Rogers, she declines, and then he remarks “0 for 3.” The joke is clearly a jab at the fact his relationship with Grande didn’t work out—and fans aren’t happy about it. “SNL is about to milk their breakup just like they did with the engagement,” the person who uploaded the video wrote. Another fan then took the video and captioned it, “Tag yourself, I’m Maggie.”

That’s the tweet that got Grande’s attention. She retweeted it and added a period punctuation mark for commentary. She then wrote two more tweets seemingly about Davidson and this SNL stunt. “For somebody who claims to hate relevancy u sure love clinging to it huh,” Grande wrote. “Thank u, next.”

Check out the promo and Grande’s tweets for yourself, below:

This is Grande’s first time acknowledging the breakup, but Davidson’s mentioned it several times during recent standup routines. “So, obviously you know I, we [Ariana and I], broke up or whatever, but when me and her first got engaged, we got tattoos,” Davidson reportedly said at a Los Angeles benefit show in October. “And it was like in a magazine like, ‘Was Pete Davidson stupid?’ And 93 percent of it said yes. So my boy, he was like, ‘Don’t listen to that shit, man. They’re literally fucking haters.’ And I’m like, ‘Yeah, fuck that. I’m not stupid.’ And the other day we were in my kitchen and he was like, ‘Yo bro. Turns out you were stupid.'”

Princess Eugenie Broke Royal Tradition With Her Second Wedding Dress

ICYMI, Princess Eugenie married Jack Brooksbank on Friday (October 12), and by all accounts, the second Royal Wedding looked pretty incredible from start to finish. For the actual ceremony, she wore a stunning collared gown by designed by Peter Pilotto and Christopher De Vos, which was full of poignant details, like embroidery representing places that are close to her heart (a shamrock for Ireland, for example) and an open back that showed off a scar from a childhood scoliosis operation. But it wouldn’t be a Royal Wedding without an outfit change—and Princess Eugenie’s second dress broke tradition in a big way.

For the couple’s evening wedding reception, Princess Eugenie opted for a custom gown by an American designer, Zac Posen—a surprising choice, given it’s customary for British royals to wear British designers for such occasions. (Meghan Markle changed into a Stella McCartney ensemble, while Kate Middleton chose a second Alexander McQueen design by Sarah Burton for their own post-ceremony festivities.) That wasn’t the only way she deviated from tradition: Instead of classic white or ivory, her second dress was blush-toned. And the result is gorgeous.

PHOTO: Mega Agency

Posen’s known for his romantic, ethereal designs—and this one was no different: Princess Eugenie’s dress was made from plissé silk (from a British mill, naturally), drawn into elegant, almost Art Deco pleats from neck to waist before cascading down to sweep the floor. It’s Old Hollywood meets royal regality—and it’s stunning.

According to the Palace, the blush color is a reference to an English rose. And, because she’s Princess Eugenie of York, there’s a White Rose of York embroidered on the back and shoulder of the dress where the cape is. Truly, it’s all in the details.

Cara Delevingne Broke Royal Protocol at Princess Eugenie's Wedding With Her Armani Tux

Though Meghan Markle and Kate Middleton have found subtle ways to subvert royal protocol over the years, they still, for the most part, adhere to it in their day-to-day lives. Outsiders get a taste of the strict rules members of that family are supposed to follow during certain events, like royal weddings. It’s always fun to see how the high-profile, royal-adjacent guests interpret these codes—and, in some cases, chose to break them. At Princess Eugenie’s nuptials, Cara Delevingne used fashion to do just that.

On Friday, October 12, the model and actress attended Princess Eugenie‘s wedding to Jack Brooksbank wearing what Vanity Fair notes is a break from the traditional interpretation of the dress code, which called for “Morning Coat/Day Dress with Hat.” Typically, “morning dress” designates menswear: a coat, waistcoat, and formal trousers. Delevingne flipped those gendered dress conventions, though, by rolling up to St. George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle in a tux by Emporio Armani that fit that bill.

For the ceremony, she wore her “morning dress” best: a white button-down shirt, gray necktie, black waistcoat with knee-length tails, black cummerbund, and black cropped pants.

Hey, Princess Eugenie and Jack Brooksbank invitation didn’t actually specify a dress code by gender, which could certainly be construed as a “take your pick” situation. And Cara knows her wedding look was on-point: She shared an image of her outfit on Instagram and captioned it, “Showing up the lads.”

Delevingne and Princess Eugenie are longtime friends—not only did the two famous Brits hang out at a London Fashion Week party in 2015, but Cara was also reportedly invited to Eugenie’s 25th birthday party that same year. Her sister, Poppy, was also at the wedding.
