Prince Harry Had the Sweetest Advice for a Boy Who Lost His Mom at a Young Age

If you need a good cry session today, Prince Harry has you covered. The royal is in New Zealand this week for his first official royal tour with his wife Meghan Markle, and he used some of the final moments of his visit to comfort a young boy who grew up without his mother.

Prince Harry was greeting crowds in Auckland on Tuesday, October 30, when he learned that a six-year-old boy named Otia had lost his mother when he was just a year old, according to The Mirror. His grandmother, Te, told Harry that Otia admired the prince, whose own mother, Princess Diana, died in a car accident when he was 12. The Duke of Sussex instantly went into dad mode and took some time to chat with the boy to let him know that everything would be OK.

“Life will always be alright, you know that? I made it to 34 years old and life is great, I’ve got a beautiful wife and a baby on the way,” he reportedly told Otia. “Your life is gonna be sorted, don’t you worry about that.”

He also joked with him to lighten the mood, asking, “You live here in Auckland? You gonna be a rugby player?”

Harry then offered some nice words to Otia’s grandmother by telling her she was taking good care of her grandson. “You’re doing a great job, Nan,” he said, according to Hello Magazine. “Nans are so important in our lives.” (Prince Harry and his brother William are known to be extremely close to their own grandmother, Queen Elizabeth.)

This isn’t the first time that Prince Harry and Markle have made us teary with cute kids during this royal tour. Earlier in the month, Harry found a little girl who looked just like Markle and even broke royal protocol by snapping a photo of them together. This latest moment is more proof that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, who announced that they’re expecting their first child this spring, are going to be pretty great parents.

The Page Boy Who Carried Meghan Markle's Train Was the MVP of the Royal Wedding

There were many incredible moments form Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s royal wedding—their vows, the first time Prince Harry saw Markle in her wedding dress, the carriage ride—but none have captivated the internet quite like Train Face Boy.

Who is Train Face Boy, you ask? Well, he’s actually one of the young sons of Markle’s good friend Jessica Mulroney. And the face he made as he carried Markle’s train into St. George’s Chapel has gone totally viral on social media.

For good reason, too. The face Mulroney’s son made—one filled with pure excitement, joy, and happiness—is exactly how many of us feel about the royal wedding but may be too embarrassed to admit. Young Mulroney wasn’t shy about expressing his glee, though, and because of that he’s an international treasure.

Relive the face he made for yourself in the GIF, below:

The Twitter reactions to him have been lovely, too. “Same bro. Absolutely same,” one person tweeted. “I want to know EVERYTHING about the page boys who carried her veil. ??? Can’t wait to read their memoir one day,” wrote another.

The best reaction, though, might’ve been from the person who tweeted, “This boy was me when I saw the size of that veil!” Markle’s veil, if you don’t know, was a whopping 16 feet long. And it was iconic.

Check out the other reactions to Train Face Boy for yourself, below:

Markle and Prince Harry’s wedding ceremony clocked in at about an hour, and it included a sermon from Bishop Michael Curry, as well as traditional vows. Directly following the church ceremony, the couple took a carriage ride around Windsor, where they greeted well-wishers. Train Face Boy was no doubt excited about that, too.

Kate Middleton and Prince William Announced the Name of Their New Baby Boy

After almost a week of anticipation, we finally know the name of Kate Middleton and Prince William’s third child!

“The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are delighted to announce that they have named their son Louis Arthur Charles,” Kensington Palace said in a statement Friday. “The baby will be known as His Royal Highness Prince Louis of Cambridge.”

The name—which is often more associated with kings of France than those in Britian—has special meaning to the royal family.

According to People, Louis is most likely a tribute to Prince Philip, whose grandfather was Prince Louis Alexander of Battenberg. The name also belongs to Prince William, whose full name is William Arthur Philip Louis. The magazine also reports that Louis also has sentimental meaning to William’s father, Prince Charles, whose beloved uncle and mentor, Earl Louis Mountbatten, was assassinated by the Irish Republican Army in 1979.

There’s been, obviously, much speculation about what the future king and queen of England would name their son, with British oddsmakers picking Arthur and Albert as early favorites.

Kensington Palace announced Monday (April 23) the couple had welcomed a new baby boy to their family, which includes Prince George (4) and Princess Charlotte (2). “Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Cambridge was safely delivered of a son at 1101hrs,” the Palace’s statement read on Twitter. “The baby weighs 8lbs 7oz. The Duke of Cambridge was present for the birth. Her Royal Highness and her child are both doing well.”

Despite being born a boy, Louis won’t be next in line to throne after his older brother Prince George: that honor belongs to William and Kate’s middle child, Charlotte, the first princess who won’t be overtaken in the line by a younger brother thanks to the Succession to the Crown Act of 2013, states that succession is based fully on birth order—not the sex of the child. Before this was passed, male royals would jump ahead of older females in the succession line. But now, Princess Charlotte is four spots away from the throne, and baby Louis is fifth.

It had been a whirlwind 24 hours for Prince William and Middleton before little Louis arrived: The Palace announced at around 3:30 A.M. ET Middleton was in labor, and the couple had traveled by car to St. Mary’s Hospital in Paddington London. A little bit over five hours later, Kensington Palace confirmed Middleton had given birth.

Right before, Kensington Palace shared a photo of all the news reporters outside the hospital waiting for a first glimpse of the new royal. “The world’s media are gathered outside the Lindo Wing at St Mary’s Hospital ahead of the birth of The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge’s third child,” the Palace wrote.

“The Queen, The Duke of Edinburgh, The Prince of Wales, The Duchess of Cornwall, Prince Harry and members of both families have been informed and are delighted with the news,” Kensington Palace also tweeted.

Middleton and Prince William welcoming baby number three is coming just before Meghan Markle and Prince Harry tie the knot on May 19 at St. George’s Chapel in Windsor Castle.

Kate Middleton Tended to a Sick Boy During a Royal Visit

As any parent can attest, mom and/or dad duty never really ends…even if you’re in the middle of a royal visit. At least, that’s the case for Kate Middleton and Prince William. On Tuesday, People reports, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge were paying a visit to an elementary school in Coventry when Middleton’s mom senses started tingling. One 10-year-old student had been waiting in the cold for three hours just to see the royals. When Middleton noticed he was looking pale, she came over and bent down to speak to him, according to Carole Flynn, a learning mentor at the school. Middleton then went back to her bodyguards and got the boy a brown paper bag, just in case.

“Princess Kate came over and give him a sickbag,” Flynn told People. “I think he was a little bit overcome.” Totally understandable. Who wouldn’t be? Thankfully, the child wasn’t so overcome that he ended up needing to use the bag. It seems like being taken care of by Middleton herself was a good enough cure.

“It was lovely of her,” Flynn added. “She really took time with him. You can tell she is a mom and has got that caring side.”

Meanwhile, Prince William had a kid crisis of his own to manage. According to People, there was a little girl in the crowd who was in tears because she wanted a hot chocolate. Before the royals left for their next appointment at the cathedral, Prince William reportedly asked her if he should order her a hot chocolate with marshmallows. “With lots of cream,” she answered.

Despite their expert handling of both kid catastrophes, a mom of three in the crowd still gave the royals some advice, just in case. (This April, the couple is expecting another baby, which brings the royal brood count to three.) “I told William ‘I’ve got three kids so get as much sleep as you can,’” Kelly Brown told People. “And he laughed and said, ‘I’m trying.’” Great to see that being a royal doesn’t make you immune from making dad jokes.

'The Big Bang Theory' Season 11 Episode 4 Recap: Howard and Bernadette Are Having a Boy

In what was perhaps the quickest reveal in The Big Bang Theory history, it took less than five minutes for the show to announce the sex of Bernadette and Howard’s second baby: a boy! The Wolowitz’s, who welcomed baby girl Halley into the world last December, find out they’ll be having a son come 2018; but prior to the reveal, they tell their doctor they don’t care. (“For the first one, we really wanted a girl, but this time around we don’t have a preference,” Howard says; “yeah, boy [or] girl…as long as it’s healthy,” Bernadette adds.) Their real feelings, however, are made clear as soon as the ultrasound indicates they’re having a boy. “Oh,” they say—and that’s it.

The scene definitely felt like a stark contrast to the way other shows have handled the “is it a boy or a girl?” question. For those shows, the episodes are usually cute in nature but never really amount to much. The audience waits 20 minutes into the program before finding out whether subsequent episodes will feature a pink or blue nursery. And then, TV kids generally don’t have much of an identity until later seasons, if at all. Of course, The Big Bang Theory has already bucked that trend altogether by never even showing us baby Halley, though we did notice she has her share of “Daddy’s Little Girl” outfits and red tutus in tonight’s “The Explosion Implosion.”

But that’s why Howard and Bernadette’s reaction was so interesting. When Raj comments that they can’t be that disappointed to have a boy, Howard opens up the conversation with this gem of a line, “I barely know how to be a man myself! Now I have to teach someone?”

PHOTO: Monty Brinton/CBS

I haven’t conducted any scientific surveys, of course, but aside from having a healthy baby, it seems like many parents want either what they’re familiar with (the “mini-me” syndrome) or a re-do of the childhood they never had growing up. But it’s frustrating to see parents basically decide on a child’s personality before the kid has a chance to form their own. Tonight’s Big Bang, however, at least got us a little closer to resisting that trend.

Howard admits to Sheldon that he’s scared to have a son because his own father abandoned him, and he never had a masculine influence in his life. As the two work to build a rocket (the same one that Howard never got to work on with his dad), Howard says, “Sheldon, help me. What do I know about raising a boy?” Sheldon’s response: “What do you know about raising a girl?” I’ve been hard on Sheldon this season, but his answer was brilliant.

See, that’s the thing. You don’t raise a gender; you raise an individual. To break down a child by ‘boy’ or ‘girl’ stereotypes is to limit who your individual child could become. No one fits into a box, yet society gives us extremely limited options during those early months pre-birth.

But let’s get back to the episode. Bernadette asks Raj if it’s wrong that she wanted a sister for Halley, considering she grew up with all brothers. “Of course it’s wrong,” Raj exclaims. “You don’t know what this little boy is going to be like! Maybe he’ll be rough and tumble, or maybe he’ll be sweet and sensitive, or maybe he’ll be all those things like me!” In the span of 20 seconds, Raj just became my favorite character. As long as a child grows up to be a good human being, it doesn’t matter if they’re into sports, fashion, a combination of both, or neither. And note to Bernadette: I love my sister more than anything, but we fought and argued so much growing up that our cat had to go on anti-depressants because we stressed her out so much. Be careful what you wish for.

Before the episode concludes, Howard ends up coaching Sheldon as he drives on a long stretch of road back home (remember, Sheldon got his driver’s license a while back and then didn’t tell anyone). In the moment, Howard nails what a great father is: being supportive and knowledgeable. “You’re a good teacher,” Sheldon says sweetly. “Your son is going to be lucky to have you as a father.” “Thanks,” Howard says. See, no sports knowledge required.

Some Good News! The Boy Scouts Will Now Allow Girls to Join

PHOTO: Steven Gottlieb/Getty Images

There’s some major news from the Boys Scouts of America today: The organization will start accepting girls as soon as 2018.

Following “years of receiving requests from families and girls,” according to an official statement from the BSA, the board voted unanimously on Wednesday to make the change. Come next year, girls will be allowed to join the Cub Scouts (the program for first through fifth graders). A program for older girls—one that will allow them to earn an Eagle Scout ranking— will be announced sometime in 2018 with admission expected to open in 2019.

“This decision is true to the BSA’s mission and core values outlined in the Scout Oath and Law. The values of Scouting—trustworthy, loyal, helpful, kind, brave and reverent, for example—are important for both young men and women,” Michael Surbaugh, the BSA’s Chief Scout Executive, said. “We believe it is critical to evolve how our programs meet the needs of families interested in positive and lifelong experiences for their children. We strive to bring what our organization does best—developing character and leadership for young people—to as many families and youth as possible as we help shape the next generation of leaders.”

There will still, however, be instances in which boys and girls will be gender-segregated. “Dens,” groups that are comprised of six to eight members, will still keep boys and girls separate. “Packs,” which are groups of dens, will be given one of three options. Per the BSA statement, “Existing packs may choose to establish a new girl pack, establish a pack that consists of girl dens and boy dens or remain an all-boy pack.”

In recent years, the Boy Scouts have been moving toward greater inclusivity: In 2013, the organization began accepting openly gay members and earlier this year they opened admissions to transgender members.
