Michelle and Barack Obama Are Honestly Living Their Best Lives at Beyoncé and Jay Z's Concert

On Saturday, Michelle and Barack Obama proved once again that they are living their best post-White House life when they attended Beyoncé and Jay-Z’s concert in Maryland, near their home of Washington, D.C. Not only did they prove they are having the best time, but they also showed they still have the best dance moves of any presidential family in U.S. history (and that’s zero percent an exaggeration).

During the concert, fans captured footage of the former First Couple as they sang along with the music and danced with friends in their box seats. Twitter reveled in Michelle’s perfectly executed moves, while Barack—well, Barack kept it classic, showing off his world-famous “dad” moves. The videos are thoroughly delightful.

And really, this is just the kind of thing you’d expect from the post-political Obamas. After all, this was Michelle’s second On the Run II Tour concert in as many weeks, proving she might just be queen of the Beyhive fandom. In early July, she was spotted alongside Beyoncé’s mother, Tina Knowles, and her youngest daughter Sasha at the couple’s tour stop in Paris. (To say we’re a little envious is an understatement.) This time, however, it made it all the more special that Barry was at the D.C.-area concert too.

Look at these two:

I mean, it’s adorable:

And one more just for good measure.

It’s not super-surprising, however: The two couples have been friends for years, dating back to at least 2009, when Bey performed at then-President Obama’s first inauguration. She also sang the national anthem at his second inauguration event in 2013.

In 2011, Michelle and Beyoncé teamed up to help promote the then-First Lady’s “Let’s Move” campaign to help end childhood obesity in America. And in 2014, Michelle was spotted at her first Beyoncé concert in Chicago, according to CNN, to which she also brought daughters Sasha and Malia along.

Safe to say these two are fans of Bey and Jay—and we’re so happy that video documentation exists.

Michelle Obama Says 'Making Mistakes Was Not an Option' for Her and Barack

Michelle Obama, while no longer in the White House, has not left the public eye. She’s spoken out about Trump’s policy of separating children from their parents at the border, about being tired of seeing men “fail up,”, and about how she’s absolutely, definitely not running for President in 2020. In a recent talk at the American Library Association’s annual conference in New Orleans she opened up about the expectations that surrounded her and Barack Obama, the nation’s first black President, during his two terms in the White House.

“Barack and I knew very early that we would be measured by a different yardstick,” Obama said. “Making mistakes was not an option for us. Not that we didn’t make mistakes, but we had to be good—no, we had to be outstanding—at everything we did… When you’re the first, you’re the one that’s laying the red carpet down for others to follow.”

She also talked about how some people still refuse to see anything other than her skin color.

“It’s just a shame that sometimes people will see me, and they will only see my color, and then they’ll make certain judgments about that,” she said. “That’s dangerous, for us to dehumanize each other in that way. We are all just people.”

Michelle Obama Shares Amazing Throwback Photo From Wedding to Barack: 'We're Still Having Fun'

The reason we believe in true love pretty much starts with a Michelle and ends with a Barack. The former First Couple thrills us every time they pop into our lives to show each other affection or to announce joint ventures, so we’re absolutely ecstatic to hear that Michelle Obama will be on our Instagram feeds a lot in the next few days as she shares amazing throwback photos from her new memoir, Becoming. Today’s image might be the most touching one yet: It’s an adorable shot of Barack removing her garter belt on their wedding day, and its captioned with the sweetest story.

“You can’t tell it from this photo, but Barack woke up on our wedding day in October, 1992 with a nasty head cold. Somehow, by the time I met him at the altar, it had miraculously disappeared and we ended up dancing almost all night,” Michelle wrote in the caption. “Twenty five years later, we’re still having fun, while also doing the hard work to build our partnership and support each other as individuals. I can’t imagine going on this wild ride with anybody else.”

We’re not crying, you’re crying. Honestly, we’re not at all surprised to hear that Barack magically healed in time to keep up with his wife on the dance floor (we’ve all seen her moves). The best part is this is just the beginning: Michelle announced in an Instagram post yesterday that more of these heartfelt memories will continue as she teases the new book. Her first picture was a beautiful ode to her parents, Fraser and Marian, whom she honored by eloquently listing out all the ways in which they had shaped her.

“My father, Fraser, taught me to work hard, laugh often, and keep my word. My mother, Marian, showed me how to think for myself and to use my voice. Together, in our cramped apartment on the South Side of Chicago, my family helped me see the value in our story, in my story, and in the larger story of our country,” the caption reads.

She later posted a picture of herself as a student at Princeton, where she graduated from in 1985. In the caption, she discussed how scary it was to be a first-generation college student and black woman in a majority white student body. She explained that she’d never “stood out in a crowd or a classroom because of the color of my skin before,” and celebrated the close friends and mentor “who gave me the confidence to be myself.” Being the endlessly supportive champion she’s always been, she of course used the moment to uplift recent graduates.

“Going to college is hard work, but every day I meet people whose lives have been profoundly changed by education, just as mine was,” she wrote. “My advice to students is to be brave and stay with it. Congratulations to the Class of 2018!”

Becoming is reportedly part of a joint deal the Obamas struck with Penguin Random House, estimated at an “excess of $30 million,” according to The Hollywood Reporter. Michelle revealed that she was writing a deeply personal memoir back in February and said the book would cover her journey from the South Side of Chicago to becoming one of the country’s most empowering public figure. She shared, ” I hope my journey inspires readers to find the courage to become whoever they aspire to be. I can’t wait to share my story.”

We can’t wait to hear it! The book comes out on November 13, and we’ll be the ones camped out at any and every public reading Michelle does.

Barack Obama Praises 5 Parkland Survivors In Powerful 'Time' Essay

For his entry in Time‘s 100 Most Influential People list, former President Barack Obama chose five student survivors of the Parkland, Florida, shooting on February 14 that left 17 people dead at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School. Singling out Cameron Kasky, Jaclyn Corin, David Hogg, Emma González, and Alex Wind, Obama wrote a powerful essay on how the students are helping to change the conversation around gun control without the institutional backing of politicians.

“Seared by memories of seeing their friends murdered at a place they believed to be safe, these young leaders don’t intimidate easily,” he writes in the piece.

Obama begins by addressing the canned “thoughts and prayers” response used by many politicians in the wake of a mass shooting. “America’s response to mass shootings has long followed a predictable pattern. We mourn. Offer thoughts and prayers. Speculate about the motives,” he writes. “And then — even as no developed country endures a homicide rate like ours, a difference explained largely by pervasive accessibility to guns; even as the majority of gun owners support commonsense reforms — the political debate spirals into acrimony and paralysis.”

“This time, something different is happening,” he continues. “This time, our children are calling us to account.”

Obama went on to point out that although the student activists of Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School don’t have “the kind of lobbyists or big budgets for attack ads that their opponents do,” with most of them not even being able to vote yet, “they have the power so often inherent in youth: to see the world anew; to reject the old constraints, outdated conventions and cowardice too often dressed up as wisdom. The power to insist that America can be better.”

Writing that student leaders like Cameron, Jaclyn, David, Emma, and Alex don’t “intimidate easily,” Obama commends them for taking on the powerful opponents of gun control. “They see the NRA and its allies — whether mealymouthed politicians or mendacious commentators peddling conspiracy theories — as mere shills for those who make money selling weapons of war to whoever can pay,” he writes. “They’re as comfortable speaking truth to power as they are dismissive of platitudes and punditry. And they live to mobilize their peers.”

“Already, they’ve had some success persuading statehouses and some of the biggest gun retailers to change,” he adds. “Now it gets harder. A Republican Congress remains unmoved. NRA scare tactics still sway much of the country. Progress will be slow and frustrating.”

As he wraps up the piece, the former POTUS gives readers a look into a future in which young activists like the Parkland students have effected powerful change. “But by bearing witness to carnage, by asking tough questions and demanding real answers, the Parkland students are shaking us out of our complacency,” he writes. “The NRA’s favored candidates are starting to fear they might lose. Law-abiding gun owners are starting to speak out. As these young leaders make common cause with African Americans and Latinos — the disproportionate victims of gun violence — and reach voting age, the possibilities of meaningful change will steadily grow.”

Previously, Barack and Michelle Obama wrote a letter to the student survivors, praising them for their powerful actions, including organizing the March for Our Lives after the shooting. “We wanted to let you know how inspired we have been by the resilience, resolve and solidarity that you have all shown in the wake of unspeakable tragedy,” the Obamas wrote. “Not only have you supported and comforted each other, but you’ve helped awaken the conscience of the nation, and challenged decision-makers to make the safety of our children the country’s top priority. Throughout our history, young people like you have led the way in making America better. There may be setbacks; you may sometimes feel like progress is too slow in coming. But we have no doubt you are going to make an enormous difference in the days and years to come, and we will be there for you.”

Barack Obama Gives Dancing Tips For Cool Dads Everywhere

Leave it to former President Barack Obama to make us nostalgic for bad dance moves. (Were times ever so simple?) The first preview for the upcoming Netflix show My Next Guest Needs No Introduction with David Letterman — on which Obama will appear as a guest— was just released, and people on the Internet are already obsessed with his return to television.

In a short clip from the episode, which debuts on January 12, Obama gives some tips for dads who are trying to bust a move and casually name drops Prince. “This was probably three or four months before he died,” the 44th president explains, referring to Prince like it’s the most casual moment ever. “And Prince asked Sasha to come up and dance, and she’s an excellent dancer. Then Sasha pulls me up, which surprises me because she always mocks my dance moves. I have dad moves,” he adds.

But, like everything else in life, the former president has a strategy for how not to embarrass your daughter in front of Prince. “I think the key is what we call ‘staying in the pocket.’ I think everyone here knows dads who get out of the pocket. And they’re trying stuff that they can’t really pull off…they start doing karate kicks and all that stuff.” Of course, the king of dad jokes also has great “dad moves.” Safe to say Obama is not a karate-kick kind of guy.

Letterman’s new talk show was announced earlier this month and will air monthly with a new guest on every episode. After Obama, George Clooney, Malala Yousafzai, Tina Fey, and Jay-Z are all scheduled to appear — clearly, the show really lives up to its title. The debut episode will be the first time 44 will appear on TV since he left office almost exactly one year ago. Just think: a whole hour of new Obama content awaits us all.

6 of the Most Bromantic Moments From Prince Harry and Barack Obama's BBC Interview

2017 might have been a garbage, dumpster-fire year (onward, 2018!), but if there were any bright moments, they came when bromancers-in-chief Prince Harry and Barack Obama got together—meetings that caused a spring-like warmth to creep through the chill of the encroaching nuclear winter. And on Wednesday, we were treated to one last 2017 meeting of the world leaders when guest editor Prince Harry sat Obama down for a BBC Radio 4 interview for the ages. “When Harry Met Barry!” the New York Times proclaimed, minus the obviously implied exclamation mark, and to be honest, we can’t say it any better ourselves. Behold, beloveds, six of the most adorable moments from this power couple’s tête-à-tête.

1. When Harry was trying to find people to appear on his edit of the “Today” program, and Obama was like, there for it. According to the Telegraph, when Harry was recruiting people to come on the show, Obama was “the ‘easiest'” guest to get a response from.
2. When they had themselves a cute quickfire round, and Harry asked Obama if he preferred “The Good Wife” or “Suits” (which his fiancée Meghan Markle starred in), and Obama answered “Suits” because of course he did, and Harry just replied, “Great, great answer,” probably blushing like a schoolboy (we imagine).
3. When Obama admitted he’d totally trust Harry’s movie judgement, which is a Big Deal. During the aforementioned quickfire round, Harry asked Obama to choose between White House Down or Olympus Has Fallen, and Obama was all, “I haven’t seen either of them.” So Harry promptly chose White House Down, and Obama said, “OK, I’ll take your word for it.” Then he fist-bumped Harry and asked when the prince wanted to bro out and watch it in the White House cinema and oh wait…?
4. When Obama banged on about Michelle to Harry like a lad. Tricky Harry tried to get Obama to shade President Donald Trump a little bit, but Obama, like the lawyer he is, flipped the question on its head and proceeded to gush about the former FLOTUS instead. Harry asked Barack what was going through his mind when the former First Family flew away from the White House after Trump’s inauguration. Obama smartly expressed gratitude for having Michelle as a partner during his time in politics. “She is a spectacular, funny, warm person. She’s not someone who was naturally inclined at politics,” he said, adding that he felt “a satisfying feeling that was mixed with all the work that was still undone.”
5. When Obama tried to speak Harry’s language and talked about “going to the pub.” Silly Obama—we call them “bars” in America! (But we see what you’re doing.) To be fair, Obama was raising a serious point about the tendency toward isolation that social media creates: “I think social media is a really powerful tool for people of common interests to convene and get to know each other and connect but then it is important for them to get offline, meet in the pub,” he said.
6. When Harry was playing hard to get about Obama’s invite to his upcoming wedding. Sure, inviting Obama and not the Trumps could touch off an international incident, but what’s that between bros, eh? When Harry was asked about whether he’d invite Obama to the wedding toward the end of his segment, he shied around the question. “I don’t know about that—we haven’t even put the invite or the guest list together,” Harry replied. “Who knows if he’s going to be invited or not? I wouldn’t want to ruin that surprise.” Mhm.
