Constance Wu Made $600 Dancing at a Strip Club While Preparing for Hustlers

We’re still not over the Hustlers snubs at this year’s Oscars—but we’re loving this new story about Constance Wu’s time researching her role as the stripper Destiny in the movie.

Wu appeared on The Kelly Clarkson Show on Monday,February 17 and revealed some behind-the-scenes intel about her preparation. “I did work at a strip club to get ready for Hustlers,” she said. “I went undercover. I gave lap dances to strangers.”

But that’s not all. The Fresh Off the Boat star actually took home some serious cash for her efforts. “I’m not lying! I made $600 my first night. I am not being funny, and it was not funny,” Wu said. “I put fake tattoos on my neck, I changed my hair… You can’t duplicate the first time you walk into a club and say, ‘Hey, I’d like to have a job here,’ and then you go work that night.”

In Hustlers, Wu plays a single mom in New York City who joins forces with Jennifer Lopez’s character, Ramona, and two other dancer friends to steal money and valuables from rich clients during the 2008 financial crisis. The film, written and directed by Lorene Scafaria, was based on a true story chronicled in a New York magazine article.

Constance Wu previously said she visited a number of strip clubs to get into character and even installed a pole in her house. “I went to a lot of strip clubs in San Francisco — that’s what I spent my Christmas Eve doing,” she told Vulture.

“I installed a pole in my living room. I took pole classes; I took private coaching sessions,” she added. “And this was all stuff I paid for by myself before we even started the movie. I became friends with a couple of strippers.”

Given the box office success of the film, we’d say all that research paid off.

Glen Powell Is Single and Looking for Someone Who Likes Dancing on Tables

Probably my belly button. I’m not gonna lie—you don’t go and send pictures of your belly button to people. Today happens to not be a good belly button day. But it’s a good belly button, and it’s sort of like a mood ring for me. It tells me when we’re having a good day or a bad day. It’s a very beautiful thing on my body.

What is the weirdest thing you do in your alone time?

I have a theater in my house, and I just bought smoke machines and lasers and turned it into a club. One of my favorite things to do is send dramatic videos to my friends late at night, with the smoke machines and lasers going off, where it’s just me alone, singing Frozen. I’m a one man party, that’s for sure.

Have you ever ghosted someone?

Not on purpose. I’m just a really bad texter. Anyone who has known me for an extended amount of time knows that I mean well, I’m just really not going to text.

Screw, marry, kill: Weed, pizza, a cocktail?

I would kill weed, marry the cocktail, and fuck the pizza.

Do you have a hangover cure?

A little tequila sunrise in a sauna. It’s probably the opposite of what you’re supposed to be doing—it’s actually a really bad idea—but it works for me. It sort of numbs you to all the bad things you’re doing to your body, but I should look into it some more…

You stop by a convenience store on your way to a party. What are you buying to bring?

Water balloons and Perrier because I’m vindictive, but I’m also a classy bitch. The Perrier goes into the water balloons. Obviously, I’m a tap water guy when it comes to water balloons, but as you grow up and get more sophisticated, you Perrier your water balloons. It’s a pinky-up type of water balloon.

What’s been your favorite on-camera love scene?

In the first episode of Scream Queens, I shot a sex scene with Jamie Lee Curtis. So if you ever see me zoning out in the middle of a conversation, that’s usually what I’m thinking about.

Who was your first crush?

If Jamie Lee Curtis reads Glamour, this might freak her out. But…JLC.

You’re alone in bed, about to fall asleep: What are you thinking about?

Do we know if Jamie Lee Curtis reads Glamour?

Every ‘Bachelor’ Star Who’s Competed on ‘Dancing With the Stars’

First comes love, then comes a Neil Lane engagement ring, then comes…a spot on Dancing With the Stars? That seems to be the pattern for many fan favorites from Bachelor Nation, including the most recent Bachelorette, Hannah Brown.

The 24-year-old reality star was recently confirmed as part of the season-28 cast, and this couldn’t be a better time for a fresh start. The Alabama native is newly single after ending her engagement to Jed Wyatt upon learning that he was allegedly seriously dating another woman up until the day he joined The Bachelorette. Her rekindled flame with runner-up Tyler Cameron also seems to have fizzled out now that the model has started spending time with Gigi Hadid. Maybe Brown will find love on the dance floor?

Whatever happens, it’s her turn to shine. But she certainly has big shoes to fill—memorable stars from The Bachelor and The Bachelorette franchise have shimmied in sequins long before her time. Read on to see every star from Bachelor Nation who’s competed for the mirror ball trophy, below.

Michelle Obama Dancing With Tina Knowles Lawson at Beyoncé's Concert Is Everything

A World Cup win for France wasn’t the only thing the country was celebrating over the weekend: Michelle Obama reunited with Tina Knowles Lawson in Paris on Sunday night (July 16) during Beyoncé’s concert. Yup: All three of these powerhouse women ended up in the same room—well, if a concert stadium counts as a room. Lawson and Obama occupied the front row of Beyoncé and Jay-Z’s On the Run II concert at the Stade de France Stadium. Sasha Obama attended the show, too, which truly made this concert a mother-daughter affair.

Several fans captured photos and videos of Obama and Lawson, who seemed to seriously enjoy the show. Obama clapped and danced along in an all-white ensemble and massive silver hoop earrings, while Lawson opted for a red and white floral look.

This isn’t the Obama family’s first time seeing Bey and Jay. Michelle Obama and her girls have been frequent fixtures on the Beyoncé tour circuit over the last few years. They watched her perform in Chicago in 2014, at the Global Citizen Festival in 2015 (where Obama actually went onstage to hug Beyoncé after her set), and, historically, at Barack Obama’s inauguration in 2009.

“She’s a special person,” Obama said about Beyoncé to Stephen Colbert in September 2016. “She’s a sweetheart. She’s smart, she’s creative, she’s a great mother, she loves her family. She’s just a low-key lady—we have a lot in common that way. Except I can’t sing … I can’t dance.” Her moves at the concert this weekend say otherwise.

Barack Obama Gives Dancing Tips For Cool Dads Everywhere

Leave it to former President Barack Obama to make us nostalgic for bad dance moves. (Were times ever so simple?) The first preview for the upcoming Netflix show My Next Guest Needs No Introduction with David Letterman — on which Obama will appear as a guest— was just released, and people on the Internet are already obsessed with his return to television.

In a short clip from the episode, which debuts on January 12, Obama gives some tips for dads who are trying to bust a move and casually name drops Prince. “This was probably three or four months before he died,” the 44th president explains, referring to Prince like it’s the most casual moment ever. “And Prince asked Sasha to come up and dance, and she’s an excellent dancer. Then Sasha pulls me up, which surprises me because she always mocks my dance moves. I have dad moves,” he adds.

But, like everything else in life, the former president has a strategy for how not to embarrass your daughter in front of Prince. “I think the key is what we call ‘staying in the pocket.’ I think everyone here knows dads who get out of the pocket. And they’re trying stuff that they can’t really pull off…they start doing karate kicks and all that stuff.” Of course, the king of dad jokes also has great “dad moves.” Safe to say Obama is not a karate-kick kind of guy.

Letterman’s new talk show was announced earlier this month and will air monthly with a new guest on every episode. After Obama, George Clooney, Malala Yousafzai, Tina Fey, and Jay-Z are all scheduled to appear — clearly, the show really lives up to its title. The debut episode will be the first time 44 will appear on TV since he left office almost exactly one year ago. Just think: a whole hour of new Obama content awaits us all.

The 'Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again' Trailer Will Transform You Into a Dancing Queen

You can dance, you can jive, or you can have the time of your life and watch a magnificent trailer featuring the songs of Swedish megagroup ABBA. Your call.

That’s right, Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again has finally blessed us with a trailer for the sequel we didn’t know we needed, and it’s going to be a perfect escapist romp just in time for summer. For those unfamiliar with the joys of the original Mamma Mia, the sequel will do double-duty by updating us on what’s going on with Sophie (Amanda Seyfried) and Sky (Dominic Cooper) as they announce their pregnancy to family and friends on their Greek island, as well as turning back time with flashbacks to see how Donna (Lily James as the younger version of Meryl Streep‘s character) made her way to the island to begin with. And don’t worry, the three daddies (Pierce Brosnan, Colin Firth, and Stellan Skarsgård) will be there, back in the present day, as well as dancing queen Cher as Sophie’s feisty grandmother. Yes! Cher!

Suspiciously missing from a lot of the action, though? Streep herself, which is making people question whether her character was killed off for the sake of a “full circle” narrative. (Note the various clues in the trailer, such as Sophie saying she doesn’t know how “to do this by myself” or only referring to Donna in the past tense.) Though it seems only time will tell if we’ll actually be saying farewell to this mamma (mia).

See that girl, watch that scene in the trailer below, as it’ll be a while until it finally reaches theaters—July 20, to be precise. My, my, how can you resist this!
