All the Times They Say 'Virgin' on The Bachelor This Season

Every season of The Bachelor, the show leans in hard on an interest or character trait of the current lead. Arie Luyendyk Jr., for example, had the whole car thing. Pilot Jake Pavelka got his own theme song, “On the Wings of Love”. And for Colton Underwood, who heads up Season 23, the big storyline is—drumroll—his virginity.

Colton’s sexual history has been a huge subject of fascination throughout his time on The Bachelorette and Bachelor in Paradise, despite the former football player saying, repeatedly, that he’s not waiting for marriage or because of religious reasons. But even though Colton is low-key about his virginity, The Bachelor is not. So it wasn’t the biggest surprise when the promos for his season included the tagline, “What has he got to lose?”

Curious to see just how much this season of The Bachelor would talk about it, I decided to take note every time somebody said “virgin” or “virginity.” The final number from the first episode alone was more than I expected, and that’s not counting all the sexual innuendos—like Kirpa joking that cleaning Colton’s teeth is as physical as she’s gonna get or the woman who dressed like a sloth because he “takes it slow.” I ultimately kept those out because who wants to read a 15,000 word thesis on Colton’s virginity?

See the full list, below—we’ll keep updating as the season goes on.

Episode One Count: 18

“I’m not a virgin, but sex is a big deal so Colton’s the Bachelor and [the fact that] he’s a virgin is super appealing to me.” — Hannah B.

“If I was the person that Colton gave his virginity to I would definitely bring out all the tricks.” — Onyeka

“I know that he’s a virgin, which is kind of concerning.” — Demi

“I am the first virgin bachelor.” — Colton

“I was ready to lose my virginity to Becca.” — Colton

“How much of the negativity and the he’s not ready do you think has to do with your virginity?” — Chris Harrison

“That’s sort of the stigma around being a virgin—oh, he’s not romantic…” — Colton

“So I have not dated a virgin since I was 12, but I’m excited to give it another shot.” — Demi

“First one out and I had to bring up the virgin thing.” — Demi

“Now that I’ve popped your cherry we don’t need to bring up virginity any more.” — Caitlin

“I feel like I never would have brought up his virginity right away because it’s too personal. Like, ‘Hi, I’m Nicole. I hear you’re a virgin!” — Nicole

“I think I just took your V-card.” — Katie

“I just want to know why he’s a virgin.” — Erika

“At least he’s a cute virgin.” — Onyeka

“Everyone knows you’re a virgin, so I want to know…why?” — Erika

“He kisses very well for a virgin.” — Caelynn

Here's What the *Bachelor* Contestants Are Packing to Meet Colton Underwood

If you’re competing on The Bachelor, there are a few staples you must have in your suitcase: fancy shoes, fancy rose ceremony outfits, fancy jewlery—just, ya know, a lot of fancy things. You’ll have to pack 500 bathing suits in case a trip to Hawaii is sprung on you at the last minute, but then you also better pack 19,000 parkas, because a trip to Alaska is just as likely. And if you have any extra room, pack a few mementos from home. You can’t use your phone while filming, so you’ll need photos of your dog to stay sane through all the pointless fights people will have in the house.

One contestant on Colton Underwood’s season of The Bachelor, however, is thinking outside the box in terms of what she’s packing for the show. Meet Caelynn, who’s already one of my favorite contestants this season because she brought a literal sash with her to meet Colton. Yes, a sash—as in a pageant sash. As in a glittery piece of fabric you drape around your shoulder to show how iconic you are. Caelynn has a reason for bringing this sash, though: She’s Miss North Carolina and is planning to wear it during her limousine exit in the first episode.

However, this shouldn’t stop any of us mere mortals from wearing a sash whenever we damn well please. Catch me from now until the end of the year wearing a sash for the most mundane tasks—going to the grocery store, paying my taxes, riding the subway, etc. etc. I’m a queen and the world should know it! Caelynn’s going into this season of The Bachelor with that energy, and we all should take note.

Above, check out the other items Caelynn and a few more contestants on this season of The Bachelor brought for their televised journeys.

The Bachelor premieres tonight (January 7) at 8 P.M. ET on ABC.

Everything the Women on The Bachelor Request From the Grocery Store

Even those with just a passing knowledge of The Bachelor trivia can guess that the contestants give up their smart phones, email, and other forms of contact with the outside world while they’re filming the reality series. But I like to think that the withdrawal is made easier given they’re all there to find love…or at least a trip to Bachelor in Paradise and some Instagram sponsorships.

And there’s another surprising perk to being on the show: The ability to ask for anything they want at the grocery store and have it delivered by production. Imagine an unlimited supply of popcorn and wine—pretty great, right? Because of that, I’ve always been curious what is on each season’s grocery list so, before Colton Underwood hands out his first round of roses tonight, January 7, I asked the production team to share all the items the contestants requested.

The biggest surprise (to me, at least)? The sweets category is kind of lame. Even ice cream and frozen yogurt, something I’d consider necessary after a long day of talking about my “journey,” are nowhere to be found. Turns out, according to one of the producers, the women simply don’t ask for it. So, it’s not stocked at the house. If the women do get a craving, though, “sometimes we’ll do a special ice cream social night to kill time,” our source reveals. Contestants also don’t ask for desserts like cookies or candy because they’re already there. (Production assistants fill up jars with those treats as soon as the women move into the mansion.)

I also learned that in addition to ice cream socials and cookie jars, the producers throw pizza parties for the women while Colton’s off figuring out the meaning of love. So while you may not get to go on a helicopter ride with the bachelor, at least your carb cravings will be satisfied back home. And to be honest, that sounds like a better deal to me.

So what else is on the list? Take a look, below.

  • Bananas

The Bachelor Contestants Revealed: Here Are 30 Women Who Are Probably Too Good for Colton Underwood

The Bachelor won’t return for a live, three-hour special until Monday, January 7. So tide us over until then, ABC has generously revealed the 30 women who will be competing for Colton Underwood‘s love…and sponsored Instagram opportunities.

After combing through their bios, I’m sad/happy to report that it looks like we’re getting yet another season where beautiful, accomplished women bicker over the affections of an Axe-scented potato. To be fair, though, Underwood is a much better catch than last season’s near-villain Arie Luyendyk Jr. Still, Underwood has committed a major reality TV sin: He’s kind of normal and, therefore, boring. And these women are anything but boring. Meet them all, below.

Colton's First *Bachelor* Trailer Is Here, and It's Wild

The first trailer for Colton Underwood’s season of The Bachelor is here, and guess what everyone has on their minds? His virginity.

This shouldn’t surprise anyone. Colton’s sex life was a major plot point on both Becca Kufrin’s season of The Bachelorette and Bachelor in Paradise. Plus, the first poster for his Bachelor tenure literally uses the tagline, “What does he have to lose?” For some reason, people are bewildered this hot 26-year-old guy could be a virgin.

That carries on to the trailer, as well. The word “virgin” is said four times by the trailer’s 40-second mark, which is just…wild. “I have not dated a virgin since I was 12,” one of the female contestants says. “I am a virgin,” Colton says, as if we could forget.

“You could lose your virginity this week,” Chris Harrison says in his very serious Chris Harrison voice. The greatest virgin reference, though, is when one of the women exclaims, “Could Colton lose his virginity in Singapore? Maybe!” Hey! Did you guys know Colton is a virgin?

Watch the trailer for yourself, below:

Of course, there is more drama outside Colton’s V-card. Your standard Bachelor hijinks are also here. The women cry and accuse each other of talking smack. Colton cries. Chris Harrison becomes gobsmacked at one point and says this season is incredibly dramatic. We’ve seen all this before, and it’s addicting every time.

What I want to know, though, is why Colton becomes so agitated at one point that he storms away and then jumps over a tall fence. Did someone say the word “virgin” one too many times?

Colton’s season of The Bachelor premieres Monday, January 7 at 8 P.M. ET on ABC.

The Poster For Colton Underwood's Season of The Bachelor Is Really…Something

Breaking news: Did you know Colton Underwood, the next Bachelor, is a virgin? I kid—there’s no way you could forget. Remember how his storylines on The Bachelorette and Bachelor in Paradise unfolded earlier this year? The shows constantly weaved in the fact that this hunky 26-year-old former football player was somehow still a virgin. He actually cried on one of the live specials as he recalled how he frequently lied about his sex life to his teammates, as if that was supposed to make us feel…sorry for him, I guess?

No shade to Colton’s tears—I just think his virginity is a weird quality to harp on because, truth is, it’s not a big deal. Some people are virgins, and some people aren’t. Just like some people pronounce caramel “care-a-mell” and others say “car-mul.” Both are fine, valid options. The same goes for your sex life. Colton is a virgin, not a serial killer.

And yet the reality series keeps playing the V-card for all it’s worth. Exhibit A: The first promotional poster for Colton’s season of The Bachelor, which is pretty standard minus one hilarious detail. Take a look at it for yourself, below:

See what I’m talking about? Colton’s tagline is the not-at-all-subtle, “What does he have to lose?” Get it? Because he’s a virgin? And he has to lose his virginity?

Here’s a new Bachelor drinking game for Colton’s season: Take a sip any time someone says the word “virgin.” Maybe play with soda, though, because at this rate it’ll be 500 times per episode—and it’s never a good idea to go that hard on a Monday.

The (Virgin) Bachelor premieres January 7 at 8 P.M. ET on ABC.
