Grammys 2020: Michelle Obama Just Won Her First Grammy Award

Michelle Obama is a woman who has worn many hats in her lifetime: lawyer, First Lady, daughter, wife, mother, author. And as of tonight, January 26, Grammy winner.

Obama won her first Grammy for Best Spoken Word Album for the audio book of her bestselling memoir, Becoming. She beat out Michael Diamond, Adam Horovitz, Scott Sherratt and Dan Zitt for the Beastie Boys Book, Eric Alexandrakis for I.V. Catatonia: 20 Years As A Two-Time Cancer Survivor, John Waters for Mr. Know-It-All, and Sekou Andrews & The String Theory for Sekou Andrews & The String Theory.

Sadly, the award was announced off-camera and the former FLOTUS was not in attendance, so the world missed out on what would surely have been an amazing acceptance speech (and red-carpet moment). Neither Obama or her husband have commented on the win yet on social media, but we expect a glowing post from Barack at some point—especially given how adorable his last birthday tweet was.

It’s not super surprising that Becoming was named Best Spoken Word Album by the Recording Academy given its massive worldwide success. It is on track to become the best-selling memoir of all time and back in the spring of 2019 had already sold 10 million copies. To promote the book (which was originally published in 2018), Obama also went on a book tour unlike most others. She sold out arenas typically reserved for rocks stars, with some tickets selling for over $3000 each.

“But the truth is, for me, each decade has offered something amazing that I would never have imagined. And if I had stopped looking, I would have missed out on so much,” Obama told Oprah Winfrey when Becoming was published. “So I’m still becoming, and this is the story of my journey. Hopefully, it will spark conversations, especially among young people, about their journeys.”

Considering a documentary (American Factory on Netflix) from the Obamas’ production company is currently nominated for an Oscar, can an EGOT be far behind?

Brad Pitt Watching Jennifer Aniston's SAG Award Speech Is So Sweet

Jennifer Aniston took home the Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Drama Series on Sunday, January 19, and she had someone very important watching her speech: Brad Pitt.

Yes, Pitt—who had just won the SAG for Best Supporting Actor—made a point to catch Aniston’s speech while he was backstage. “Another look at Brad Pitt watching Jennifer Aniston winning her statue for #TheMorningShow at the #SAGAwards,” The Hollywood Reporter captioned a tweet with a video of Pitt. Watch it for yourself, below:

Earlier in the evening, cameras caught Aniston’s reaction to a marriage joke Pitt made in his acceptance speech. He quipped that playing a character “who gets high, takes his shift off and doesn’t get on with his wife” was a stretch, which got a smile out of Aniston.

Brad Pitt and Jennifer Aniston had a brief reunion backstage at the SAGs. Here are some photos of that:

But don’t think any of this is a sign they’re getting back together. These two are just good friends—Pitt said as much at the Golden Globes when asked if he hoped to run into Aniston at the show. “I’ll run into Jen. She’s a good friend. The second most important reunion of her year,” he said, making a subtle nod to all the rumors the Friends cast is reuniting.

According to E! News, the two also had a friendly (but brief) catch-up session at a Golden Globes after-party. “They said hello very quickly,” a source said. “Jen arrived after Brad. It was brief, but [they] were very cordial and friendly and seemed happy to be there. They approached each other once they saw each other inside and looked happy as they started to hug and say hello. Jen whispered something to Brad, but it wasn’t in an affectionate way. They both didn’t seem like they wanted to make a big deal about being together in the same room although it was a private party. They were trying to be low-key. Brad left shortly after and didn’t stay at the party long.”

Christine Blasey Ford's ACLU ‘Courage Award’ Speech Is A Must Watch

Dr. Christine Blasey Ford made a rare public appearance to accept the ACLU of Southern California’s Rodger Baldwin Courage Award over the weekend, explaining in more depth and detail what motivated her to come forward against now Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh in September 2018. (Almost 14 months ago Blasey Ford testified that Kavanaugh assaulted her when both were in high school in 1982. He has denied the accusations and was later confirmed to the bench.)

“When I came forward last September, I did not feel courageous,” Blasey Ford said in her acceptance speech. “I was simply doing my duty as a citizen.” So much so, she added, that she felt certain anyone in her position would “of course do the same thing.” But what seemed to her to be an essential and obvious move had a greater impact—and came at a greater cost—than she could have anticipated.

After her appearance before the Senate committee, Blasey Ford and her family were faced with threats, forcing them to move from their home and enhance their personal security.

“I was prepared for a variety of outcomes, including being dismissed,” she said over the weekend of her decision to speak out. “I was not prepared for the venom, the consistent attacks, the vilification, the loss of personal privacy, and the collateral damages to my friends and my family. I was not prepared to be physically threatened, or forced out of our home for over three months. I have learned a lot over the past year. I have learned there’s a well-financed attack machine out there ready to flood the internet and the media anytime I raise my head. And I know it’s not going to go away.”

In coming forward, Blasey Ford faced greater scrutiny and cruelty than most of her critics can imagine. But, she went on, even in the face of relentless attacks, she found strength. “Though I underestimated the pain, I also underestimated the love and the support that I have received,” she said.

You can watch the entire speech below:

Chrissy Teigen Trolls John Legend by Replacing His Grammys With Her New Award

This week Chrissy Teigen was recognized at the Baby2Baby Gala, where her husband John Legend presented her with the Giving Tree Award to mark her commitment to advocating for children in need. It was a pretty serious event with an important message and during her speech, Teigen said she was “honored” to use her platform to help get basic necessities for children living in poverty. However, because she’s Chrissy Teigen, she wasn’t serious for too long; Once she got home, she used the award to troll Legend in the most hilarious way.

After the gala, Teigen shared a Twitter video, shot by Legend, of her redecorating their living room to make space for her latest accolade. In the clip, you can see the model walking directly into her home with Legend in tow, beelining to a shelf filled with his 10 Grammy statues (and various Oscars). As Legend watches, she moves two of his golden gramophones directly out of the way to display her glass award. You can hear Legend mutter, “Wow…oh my God,” in disbelief as he watches his wife rearrange his trophies. Teigen however, replies cheerfully, turning around and exclaiming, “Yay!” All of this is proof that in addition to a wonderful advocate, she’s also still the master at trolling her husband.

During the ceremony, which was held in Culver City, California, Teigen spoke about how she’s instilled the values of giving in her kids. “Luna is no stranger to packing up all of her toys and sending them off, and knowing that people are going to open them and love them more and be so excited by them,” she said, per the New York Times.

And don’t worry, no one is more supportive of Teigen’s efforts than her proud hubby. In a recent interview with Vanity Fair, Legend spoke lovingly about how Teigen’s celebrity status has eclipsed his own.

“I’m her biggest cheerleader,” he said to VF. “I always think she should do more.”

A Note on Linda Fairstein's 1993 Woman of the Year Award

Hi all,

We’ve heard from some you in recent days as we, and the world, have been remembering the injustice of the prosecution of Antron McCray, Kevin Richardson, Yusef Salaam, Raymond Santana, and Korey Wise. Glamour has covered the new limited series centered on their story, When They See Us, through interviews with some of its actors and with director Ava DuVernay.

Many of you have contacted us on social media to ask about the Glamour Woman of the Year award that the prosecutor in the case, Linda Fairstein, received a quarter century ago.

Unequivocally, Glamour would not bestow this honor on her today. She received the award in 1993, before the full injustices in this case were brought to light. Though the convictions were later vacated and the men received a settlement from the City of New York, the damage caused is immeasurable.

Glamour’s Women of the Year awards should reflect our culture, the values of our brand, and our audience. We remain committed to being thoughtful and purposeful about whom we choose to celebrate, and in this case, the lens of history has shown us that we got it wrong.

It’s important to hold institutions accountable, and we appreciate the commitment so many of you showed to this issue when you reached out. Glamour is, and will always be, a platform that celebrates outspoken women. So to those of you who raised this issue, thank you. We want you to know that we hear you, and we assure you that while we can’t erase the past, we will continue to learn from it.

Ariana Grande Celebrated Her Billboard Woman of the Year Award by Getting Tattoos With Her 93-Year-Old Grandma

What kind of things do you like to do with your grandma—bake cookies, share stories, maybe hit some holiday sales? Well, when you’re Ariana Grande hanging out with her gran, things apparently get kicked up a notch.

After accepting the honor of Billboard Woman of the Year, Grande and her half-brother, Frankie, took their grandmother Marjorie Grande—better known as “Nonna” to her family and “legend” to the rest of us—out to get tattoos. Of course, Ariana’s no stranger to ink. She’s got more than we can count—including some new ones covering up the remnants of her broken engagement to Pete Davidson.

But Nonna? This was her first time, and Ariana documented the trip on her Instagram Stories. The Grande matriarch was so chill about the whole thing: She opted for a very sweet tribute to her late husband Frank and had his nickname “Ciccio” tattooed onto her left ring finger (ouch). When the singer asked Nonna how she was feeling about the process, she calmly replied, “I feel fine. I’ve had a little bit more excitement than this.” At one point she even joked, “You don’t know what pain is!”

Fans on social media went nuts for for the bonding moment.

“Ariana holding nonna’s hand while she’s getting her first tattoo is the sweetest thing ever please,” one wrote. “Also I CANT BELIEVE NONNA GOT A TATTOO OMG but it’s so cute and i love it,” said another.

Ariana also got some new ink that night on the top of her hand. New York tattoo artist Mira Mariah shared a photograph of the celestial art on her own Instagram writing, “☀️? for the woman of the year.”

As far as whether Nonna’s caught the tattoo bug…we’ll definitely keep you posted if she and Ariana head out for matching ink sometime soon.
