Ariana Grande Has Way Shorter Hair Now, and It's Gorgeous

In a beauty landscape where trends change as quickly as you can refresh your Instagram feed, we’ve come to rely on a few celebrity staples: winged eyeliner from Taylor Swift, nude lips on Meghan Markle, and until today…Ariana Grande‘s long, high ponytail.

Honestly is there a famous hairstyle more connected to a person than Grande and her pony right now? Of course, we’ve seen her wear her long hair down and in a top knot, but the singer’s latest Instagram post showed off a new look that we were not expecting. Is that a lob we see, AG?

Grande posted to Instagram and Twitter showing off a decidedly shorter cut with the caption, “this filter took my eyebrows away but i promise they’re there,” so she’s obviously got beauty on her mind. But brows are not the hair we currently want to discuss.

Did she simply take out her extensions to give her own hair a breather? Is this a post-Pete breakup chop? Will she keep it this way or is the ponytail coming back or is she saying ‘thank u, next’ to her signature style? There are so many questions. Given how social media savvy Grande is, she had to know that she was starting a serious conversation.

Fans obviously reacted strongly. “Keep this hair girl omfg you look so good,” one tweeted. While another had to do a double take, “WAIT OMG I JUST REALISED THAT YOU CUT YOUR HAIR.” Another took it next level writing, “Listen. @ArianaGrande chopped her hair off. This is not just a new chapter in her life but in all of our lives.”

Whatever is going on, it looks fantastic and we want to see shots from 100 more angles. Please.

Ariana Grande Just Opened Up About Her "Painful, and Yet Beautiful" Year

It’s safe to say that Ariana Grande is currently at the top of her game: Her latest hit single “thank u, next” just debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 as the top streaming and selling song of the moment. It’s the first debut at the top of the list for a female artist since Adele released “Hello” in 2015.

But she’s also been dealing with some tough stuff emotionally since the death of her ex-boyfriend Mac Miller—and since calling off her high-profile engagement to Saturday Night Live‘s Pete Davidson.

As she’s been healing, Grande has opened up to fans about her pain and how she’s getting through it all. (She’s a big fan of therapy.) Recently she’s tweeted with fans about where she is emotionally and how grateful she is for them, as well as her friends and her successes. “for once i don’t really have words ?1️⃣? i love u so much and thank u,” she wrote on Monday about the Billboard debut.

“What an interesting, challenging, painful and yet beautiful and exciting chapter of life ….. when it rains it pours,” she said. “but i’m embracing all of it. i’m excited for whatever else the universe has in store for me. she’s growing n she’s grateful. ?”

She also shouts out her friends and all that they’ve done for her.

And the motivation she gets from her fans.

It’s no small thing for a celebrity with such a large platform to speak publicly about emotionally tough times and mental health—and it’s sure to have impacted at least a few fans for the better.

Ariana Grande Just Made How She Feels About Her Engagement Very Clear

For the past week or so, Ariana Grande has been using music to comment on her split from Pete Davidson. She first started with “Thank U, Next”, the song she surprised-dropped last Saturday night that name-checks several of her exes, including the SNL comedian. “Even almost got married / and for Pete, I’m so thankful ,” she sings at the top of the track.

Grande followed this up with a performance of “Thank U, Next” on The Ellen DeGeneres Show that featured lots of wedding imagery, from a multitiered cake to reception tables and all-white outfits. Because Davidson is the only ex we know of who almost married Grande, it’s safe to assume this was a nod to him.

But she just took her Davidson commentary out of the music and onto Instagram. The sleuth-ish account Comments by Celebs captured a rather savage reply Grande wrote on a Zoe Report post teasing the “13 tips & tricks for finding the perfect engagement ring.”

“Don’t,” Grande wrote with no capitalization or punctuations. Oof. Welp, that makes her opinion on her short-lived engagement to Davidson very clear.

Davidson and Grande confirmed their engagement over the summer, but in mid-October news broke they had called things off. He’s since made several jokes about the situation in stand-up routines and on SNL. After he fake-proposed to singer Maggie Rogers as a joke for one of the show’s promos, Grande hit back on Twitter, posting (and later deleting), “For somebody who claims to hate relevancy u sure love clinging to it huh. Thank u, next.” Little did we know those last three words would be the title of the song heard (literally) around the world.

Ariana Grande Just Trolled Herself So Hard

Ariana Grande‘s year hasn’t exactly been the easiest. In mid-October, news broke that she and fiancé Pete Davidson were splitting up after a whirlwind summer relationship. That breakup was one of the events that inspired “Thank U, Next,” Grande’s new song, which pays homage to her exes. She name-checks several of them in the song, including Davidson and Mac Miller, who passed away over the summer from an overdose. Grande performed the song for the first time on The Ellen Show Wednesday (November 7), and she got emotional during her set—no-doubt from the aforementioned reasons and more.

But she’s taking all this hardship in stride. The singer took to Twitter on Wednesday night and made a joke at her own expense. “remember when i was like hey i have no tears left to cry and the universe was like HAAAAAAAAA bitch u thought,” she tweeted, referring to her hit song “No Tears Left to Cry” that kicked off her Sweetener era in April.

See the tweet for yourself, below:

And check out her first performance of “Thank U, Next” here:

She styled the performance after The First Wives Club, complete with a white outfit and a set that included a wedding cake and reception tables. Since Davidson is the only ex of Grande’s whom she almost married—to our knowledge—it’s safe to assume the performance was heavily inspired by him.

Grande dropped “Thank U, Next” with no warning on Saturday night (November 3) following the joke Davidson made about their engagement for an SNL promo. “You wanna get married?” he asked the musical guest Maggie Rogers, who curtly responded, “No.” “0 for 3,” Davidson then cracked.

“For somebody who claims to hate relevancy u sure love clinging to it huh,” Grande tweeted (and promptly deleted) shortly after this promo went live. “Thank u, next.”

Ariana Grande's First Performance of 'Thank U, Next' Is Clearly a Nod to Pete Davidson

Ariana Grande threw everyone for a loop Saturday night when she surprise-dropped a new song called “Thank U, Next.” To be fair, fans did see new music coming, but they may’ve been surprised by how Grande name-checks her exes in the song. “Thought I’d end up with Sean/But he wasn’t a match/Wrote some songs about Ricky/Now I listen and laugh/Even almost got married/And for Pete, I’m so thankful/Wish I could say, ‘Thank you’ to Malcolm/’Cause he was an angel,” she sings at the top of the track.

“Pete” is obviously Pete Davidson, the Saturday Night Live comedian whom Grande was engaged to all summer. Their whirlwind romance abruptly ended in mid-October, and Davidson hasn’t exactly been silent about the split. He’s made jokes in standup routines about it and even fake-proposed to singer Maggie Rogers as part of an SNL promo gag. That last stunt irked Grande and was no-doubt a reason she released “Thank U, Next” so quickly.

And she isn’t done calling out Davidson in her music. The singer’s first performance of the song will air on Ellen Wednesday (November 7), and there’s a motif going on: weddings.

In a video host Ellen DeGeneres teased, we see Grande and her backup dancers dressed in all white with a wedding cake and reception tables in the background. Grande even quasi-confirmed this theme on her own Instagram, dubbing herself and the dancers the “First Wives Club 2018.”

Watch the full performance for yourself, below:

Davidson is the only person on “Thank U, Next” whom Grande says she almost married, so all this wedding imagery is most likely a reference to him. It’s not exactly subtle.

It’s also a bit perplexing, seeing as how Grande was seemingly so upset by Davidson speaking openly about their relationship. This performance, in many ways, is perhaps the most overt nod either of them has made to their engagement.

If Grande also does an interview with DeGeneres, it’ll be interesting to see what she says.

Ariana Grande Says Seeing a Therapist 'Saved My Life'

Ariana Grande has been through some tough times recently—a terrorist attack, the shocking death of her ex Mac Miller, and the very public engagement to and breakup from SNL’s Pete Davidson. To get through it all, she’s turned to therapy, according to a recent tweet.

Earlier this week the “God Is a Woman Singer” teased her new album and single titled “Thank You, Next”. After a fan joked about her latest breakup-themed hit, which highlights the lessons she learned from her past relationships, by writing on Twitter “who is ariana’s therapist and are they accepting new clients,” Grande took the opportunity to issue an important PSA about mental health.

“lmaoaoo this is funny as fuck but in all honesty therapy has saved my life so many times,” she wrote. “If you’re afraid to ask for help, don’t be. u don’t have to be in constant pain & u can process trauma. i’ve got a lot of work to do but it’s a start to even be aware that it’s possible.”

This isn’t the first time Grande has spoken up about mental health issues. Following the bombing after one of her concerts in Manchester, England, in 2017, Grande has been open about her struggles with post-traumatic stress disorder and anxiety. “Sry i’m really really anxious and really exhausted and jus trying to get thru the trip,” she tweeted on her first trip back to England after the attack.

She even dedicated one of the tracks on Sweetener to those affected by the bombing. “It’s just about just being there for each other and helping each other through scary times and anxiety,” she said of her song “Get Well Soon” in an interview earlier this year.

Her fans loved her honesty about getting professional help. In the words of one fan: “This simple tweet is going to save a lot of people.”
