Ariana Grande Just Announced She's Taking a Break From Social Media

Ariana Grande has announced she’s taking a step back from social media.

In a Instagram Stories slide, the Sweetener singer said she’s temporarily quitting social media to avoid seeing negative news bites. Whether she’s referring to stories about her reported breakup with Pete Davidson is unclear. “Okay, today was very special and I’m so grateful I was able to be there,” the singer wrote on her Instagram Story, per People, in reference to her participation in NBC’s A Very Wicked Halloween. “Time to say bye bye again to the Internet for just a lil bit. It’s hard not to bump news and stuff that I’m not trying to see right now. It’s very sad and we’re all trying very hard to keep going. Love you. And thank you for being here always.”

Earlier in the day, Grande posted another Instagram Story—her first since the reported breakup—that spoke to some anxiety issues she was experiencing. “Can’t believe I almost let my anxiety ruin this for me today!” she wrote, again, referring to the Wicked special. “Not today Satan! Not tomorrow or the next day either, not no more… [gonna] sing my heart out and be a big walking vessel of love. Bye.”

Neither Grande nor Davidson has directly addressed the end of their whirlwind engagement, which culminated in a swanky New York City apartment, pet pig, and $100,000 diamond engagement ring. TMZ claims their relationship ended “with both parties acknowledging that it simply was not the right time for their relationship to take off,” while People reported, “It was way too much too soon…it’s not shocking to anyone.” Here’s hoping both of them get some well-deserved privacy.

Warner Bros. and HBO Just Announced a Major Step Forward for Diversity in Hollywood

Back in March, at the Oscars, Frances McDormand introduced the “inclusion rider” to non-Hollywood types during her Best Actress acceptance speech when she said, “I have two words for you: inclusion rider.” It became a much-discussed term as people learned that it’s essentially a contract clause, used by those both in front of and behind the camera, that stipulates there should be a certain amount of diversity in the film or project for which the contract has been created.

Since then, though, the amount of big companies adopting these inclusion riders has been limited. But now, in a big move that could have far-reaching implications, Warner Media (the parent company to Warner Bros. and HBO, among other media entities) is instituting a company-wide diversity policy.

“It is essential that our content and creative partners reflect the diversity of our society and the world around us,” the company said in a statement to the Los Angeles Times. “Together with other production companies, networks, guilds, unions, talent agencies and others in the industry, we all must ensure there is greater inclusion of women, people of color, the LGBTQ+ community, those with disabilities and other underrepresented groups in greater numbers both in front of and behind the camera.”

Their partner in bringing this vision to light? Actor Michael B. Jordan. His next film (about to start production), Just Mercy, will be the first made under the new guidelines.

“Inclusivity has always been a no-brainer for me, especially as a black man in this business,” Jordan said. “[But] it wasn’t until Frances McDormand spoke the two words that set the industry on fire — inclusion rider — that I realized we could standardize this practice. It allowed me to formally pledge my production company, Outlier Society, to a way of doing business.”

While there are not super-specific steps laid out in the Warner Media policy, the company says that it will work with writers, directors, and producers it the early stages of the process to “to create a plan for implementing this commitment to diversity and inclusion on our projects, with the goal of providing opportunities for individuals from under-represented groups at all levels.”

Diversity is something that the Hollywood powers-that-be have long struggled with, despite the public’s obvious hunger for more. Just look at the blockbuster success of films like Girls’ Trip, Black Panther, and Crazy Rich Asians and television shows like Orange Is the New Black, Insecure, and Atlanta.

But the concept of an inclusion rider certainly isn’t foreign to all creatives. As Glamour highlighted in a recent story, many female-led sets work hard to include a diversity of voices. Still, it can’t be left to women and people of color alone to carry the weight, which is why it’s good to see a giant corporation stepping up. After all, more voices always make for better stories.

The White House Just Announced a Plan to Reunite Separated Migrant Families

On Saturday evening, the Department of Homeland Security and the Department of Health and Human Services made a joint statement outlining a plan to reunite 2,000-plus migrant kids with their families after being separated at the border. Before now, the White House reportedly had no formal plan or protocol in place to reunite the families.

The announcement comes after days of backlash and public outcry regarding the administration’s “zero tolerance” policy of criminally prosecuting all adults crossing into the U.S. illegally—including those seeking asylum. It also comes after a June 20 executive order to stop separating families, though it opens the door for a lot of questions about where families will be housed and for how long.

Before, those apprehended crossing the border were referred to an immigration judge after being held in immigration detention, writes Vox. Under Trump’s criminal prosecution policy, adults are sent to a federal jail and then brought before a federal judge—hence the separation, as you can’t have kids in a federal jail. Kids are sent instead to mass detention centers or foster care, sometimes thousands of miles away, sometimes without parents being informed where—or why—their children had been taken.

The DHS and DHHS’ joint statement states that the two departments “have a process established to ensure that family members know the location of their children and have regular communication after separation to ensure that those adults who are subject to removal are reunited with their children for the purposes of removal.” It also states that the government knows where each child is while separated from his or her parents.

“There will be a small number of children who were separated for reasons other than zero tolerance that will remain separated: generally only if the familial relationship cannot be confirmed, we believe the adult is a threat to the safety of the child, or the adult is a criminal alien,” the statement continues.

Once adults are slated for deportation—which, as The Cut points out, “can take anywhere from days to years”—they can try to find their child using an Immigrations and Customs Enforcement hotline that begins the process of reunification.

As of Friday, the statement says, only 522 children had been reunited with their parents.

'This Is Us' Just Announced the Premiere Date for Season 3

Warning: This Is Us spoilers ahead.

It seems like just yesterday fans of This Is Us were crushed by the truth about Jack Pearson’s death, but show-runner Dan Fogelman already has us emotionally preparing for season three.

On Tuesday (June 19), NBC confirmed—via Instagram—that season three will premiere on September 25, 2018 at 9:00 P.M. ET. The video, shared to the This Is Us‘ account, shows a calendar with both Jack and the Big Three’s (Randall, Kate, and Kevin) birthdays marked down on August 31 and September 1, respectively. “There’s no you. There’s no me. There’s just US,” reads the caption, just in case the handwritten hearts and birthday cake didn’t make you weepy enough.

If you watched the season 2 finale, you know that the last five minutes confused fans with a flash-forward in time. Here’s a quick update: Toby is bedridden with depression; Kevin is dating Beth’s cousin, Zoe; and Randall and an older Tess have to go visit someone they have not seen in a long time. Though many fans quickly spiraled with the last scenario, believing that Beth was in danger of dying, Fogelman himself confirmed to Glamour that this is not the case. “We don’t have any other deaths coming in a present day storyline anytime soon,” he said. (Bless.) Fogelman revealed little else about the upcoming episodes, but he did say the new season will be the “most ambitious yet.”

Season three will feature 18 episodes and explore the immediate after-effects of Jack’s death, Miguel and Rebecca’s backstory, and Jack’s young life. Note to self: Buy tissues before September.

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s Bridesmaids and Pageboys Were Just Announced

Today’s biggest royal wedding update—aside from the ongoing saga with Meghan Markle’s dad, of course—comes straight from the palace, which officially confirmed the entourage of 10 pageboys and bridesmaids who will be leading the way for Markle as she heads down the aisle on May 19.

There will be six bridesmaids and four pageboys—all children seven years old or younger. Not surprisingly, Prince Harry’s niece and nephew—Princess Charlotte, 3, and Prince George, 4—will take starring roles in their respective groups. After all, they have experience: They were bridesmaid and pageboy at aunt Pippa Middleton’s wedding last summer.

As for the rest of the gang, the bridesmaids will include two of Prince Harry’s goddaughters. First up is Zalie Warren, who is two years old and has a twin, according to the Mirror. (Her twin sister, India, isn’t a goddaughter of Harry’s and therefore will not be a bridesmaid.) Zalie is the daughter of Zoe Warren and the Queen’s racing manager John Warren—who himself is a godchild of the late Princess Diana.

There’s also Florence van Cutsem—another of Harry’s goddaughters—who is three years old. She’s the daughter of Alice van Cutsem and Nicolas van Cutsem, a friend of Harry’s since childhood. Florence is the cousin of Grace Van Cutsem, the adorably grumpy little girl who went viral at Will and Kate’s 2011 wedding:

Markle also has two goddaughters as bridesmaids: Remi, 6, and Rylan Litt, 7. They’re the daughters of Darren and Benita Litt, the latter of whom is a brand curator/bag designer based in L.A.

Joining the squad is Ivy Mulroney, 4, pictured below. She’s the child of two of Markle’s closest friends: Canadian stylist Jessica Mulroney and her husband, Ben, whose father is the former Canadian Prime Minister Brian Mulroney. (Ben himself is a TV host.)

Along with Prince George, Harry’s godson, 6-year-old Jasper Dyer, will be a pageboy. Dyer is the son of Amanda Dyer and Mark Dyer. Mark is a former equerry (officer of the British royal household) to Prince Charles and is often referred to as Harry’s “second dad.”

Also joining the fun are Ivy Mulroney’s brothers: Brian and John Mulroney, both 7. (You can see both in the Instagram below.)

And, because they’re just too cute, here’s a photo of all those Mulroney kids together:

Adorable, no? We can’t wait to see these kids in action on the big day.

Kate Middleton and Prince William Announced the Name of Their New Baby Boy

After almost a week of anticipation, we finally know the name of Kate Middleton and Prince William’s third child!

“The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are delighted to announce that they have named their son Louis Arthur Charles,” Kensington Palace said in a statement Friday. “The baby will be known as His Royal Highness Prince Louis of Cambridge.”

The name—which is often more associated with kings of France than those in Britian—has special meaning to the royal family.

According to People, Louis is most likely a tribute to Prince Philip, whose grandfather was Prince Louis Alexander of Battenberg. The name also belongs to Prince William, whose full name is William Arthur Philip Louis. The magazine also reports that Louis also has sentimental meaning to William’s father, Prince Charles, whose beloved uncle and mentor, Earl Louis Mountbatten, was assassinated by the Irish Republican Army in 1979.

There’s been, obviously, much speculation about what the future king and queen of England would name their son, with British oddsmakers picking Arthur and Albert as early favorites.

Kensington Palace announced Monday (April 23) the couple had welcomed a new baby boy to their family, which includes Prince George (4) and Princess Charlotte (2). “Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Cambridge was safely delivered of a son at 1101hrs,” the Palace’s statement read on Twitter. “The baby weighs 8lbs 7oz. The Duke of Cambridge was present for the birth. Her Royal Highness and her child are both doing well.”

Despite being born a boy, Louis won’t be next in line to throne after his older brother Prince George: that honor belongs to William and Kate’s middle child, Charlotte, the first princess who won’t be overtaken in the line by a younger brother thanks to the Succession to the Crown Act of 2013, states that succession is based fully on birth order—not the sex of the child. Before this was passed, male royals would jump ahead of older females in the succession line. But now, Princess Charlotte is four spots away from the throne, and baby Louis is fifth.

It had been a whirlwind 24 hours for Prince William and Middleton before little Louis arrived: The Palace announced at around 3:30 A.M. ET Middleton was in labor, and the couple had traveled by car to St. Mary’s Hospital in Paddington London. A little bit over five hours later, Kensington Palace confirmed Middleton had given birth.

Right before, Kensington Palace shared a photo of all the news reporters outside the hospital waiting for a first glimpse of the new royal. “The world’s media are gathered outside the Lindo Wing at St Mary’s Hospital ahead of the birth of The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge’s third child,” the Palace wrote.

“The Queen, The Duke of Edinburgh, The Prince of Wales, The Duchess of Cornwall, Prince Harry and members of both families have been informed and are delighted with the news,” Kensington Palace also tweeted.

Middleton and Prince William welcoming baby number three is coming just before Meghan Markle and Prince Harry tie the knot on May 19 at St. George’s Chapel in Windsor Castle.
