Just a Bunch of Celebrities Spending New Year's Eve in Incredible Destinations

It’s New Year’s Eve, and after several days (or more) of uninterrupted family time for the holidays, it’s no surprise that everyone, celebrities included, are ready to cut loose and ring in the new year. But while most of us are off to house parties to ring in 2018 or to a nearby bar for a midnight champagne toast—or, hey, staying in and watching these 20 great Netflix movies that are way better than going out, TBH—A-listers are taking their celebrations to some pretty ideal vacation destinations. Keep scrolling through to see where your favorite celebrities will be watching the ball drop around the globe.

Selena Gomez is in Mexico.

Selena Gomez is spending her end-of year-vacation in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico with a group of her best girlfriends (it’s their sixth time all spending New Year’s Eve together, which is #friendshipgoals). Apparently they were even joined on Saturday by Selena’s boyfriend Justin Bieber over the weekend.

Bella Hadid is hitting the slopes in Aspen.

Bella Hadid has been busy over the last few days showing off her epic Aspen adventure. Thankfully for her, she’s also found a hot tub to warm up in before 2018.

Shay Mitchell is in Vancouver.

Pretty Little Liars star Shay Mitchell is celebrating the holidays in her home country of Canada and appears to be staying local for the new year.

Gabrielle Union is in Puna Cana, living her best life.

Gabrielle Union is having an amazing time in the Dominican Republic’s resort destination of Punta Cana.

Mariah Carey is jetting between Aspen and New York City.

Mariah Carey will rack up a few frequent flier miles this holiday season. The songstress has been spending quite a lot of her holiday in Aspen, Colorado (Did she and Bella après-ski together? We want answers.). But as the world knows, she will also be flying to New York City, where she’ll perform at Ryan Seacrest’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve event and hopefully redeem herself from her last performance.

Emmy Rossum is exploring Italy, France and Prague.

Emmy Rossum appears to be traveling all over Europe for her holiday break. The Shameless actress has posted several beautiful snaps from her trip featuring the gorgeous local architecture in Paris and Rome—as well as a stunning photo of St. Vitus Cathedral in Prague.

Lucy Hale is reporting from New Orleans.

Lucy Hale will be joining Seacrest on the New Year’s Rockin’ Eve special as a correspondent from New Orleans. The actress even posted a shot from rehearsal in front of the stage where Walk the Moon will also perform.

Katie Holmes is also kicking it on the slopes.

Katie Holmes, like Carey and Hadid, is engaging in the wintriest of pursuits: going skiing on some fresh powder.

Demi Lovato is hanging out in Miami.

Demi Lovato will celebrate the new year with fans as she performs with Kygo at Fontainebleau in Miami Beach. And clearly, according to her Instagram post above, she’s more than ready.

Selena Gomez Is Spending New Year's Eve in Mexico—Without Justin Bieber

Selena Gomez and Justin Bieber are the cause of much speculation lately, for obvious reasons. A few weeks ago they took a very PG-rated trip to the Sugar Factor Candy store in Seattle for some sweet treats and a shared non-alcoholic $34 Ocean Blue mocktail. Things seemed good until Gomez reportedly walked out on Bieber because he was doing some embarrassing dance movies, which is kind of incredible if you put yourself in her shoes. Meanwhile, rumor has it that he wasn’t invited to her family’s Christmas celebrations—we don’t know the full details why, but seems a little awkward, no?

Anyway, there’s nothing like a post-Christmas break break, and people are talking about Gomez’s latest trip…without Bieber. But before you read too much into that and think they broke up, that is not the case. Instead, Selena just decided to have a little break from the United States’ cold, dreary winter weather and hopped on a private jet to Cabo this week with some of her best friends to spend their sixth New Year’s together. From there, reports E!, she went straight to a “private villa that features 360-degree views of the ocean blue water and an infinity pool.” Yeah, um, we’d head straight there too.

Of course, what’s a trip to Cabo without hitting up the beach for a ‘gram?

Given this trip looks to be “girlfriends only,” one might surmise that this will be a Justin-less ringing-in of 2018, unless he shows up on his own flight. Which, hey, that could happen: After all, couples don’t necessarily always travel together, and a two-hour and 30-minute flight creates a lot of time for, shall we say, creative dance moves in a very small, enclosed, exitless space.

But our bet is on Selena just enjoying some quality time with some of her BFFs, which is awesome. Meanwhile, Bieber is enjoying some me time: Fans have spotted him playing hockey in Canada.

Meghan Markle's New Year's Resolutions Are Probably Yours, Too

Every year so many of us come up with a list of things we want to improve in the new year: maybe it’s exercising more, eating better, or getting more involved in the community—but inevitably a resolution or two tends to pop up on the list year after year (the struggle is real!). But that’s normal. It’s so normal, in fact, that even future royal Meghan Markle can relate. The actress and soon-to-be wife of Prince Harry has two New Year’s resolutions that tend to stay on her list every year.

According to The Telegraph, Markle wrote about her goals for 2016 in a post for her blog, The Tig, which she shut down when her relationship with Prince Harry started getting serious. And the first two resolutions are pretty darn normal.

“Stop biting my nails. Stop swearing,” she wrote in a post on January 1, 2016. “Re-learn French,”

“These make my New Year’s resolution list nearly (AKA actually every) single year,” Markle went on to explain. “The swearing comes in lulls triggered by being overworked or feeling mighty cheeky after a couple drinks.” We hear you: Sometimes swearing is just so…satisfying.

“And when it comes to the biting of the nails—well, it still happens with a turbulent flight or a stressful day,” she said, “It’s unladylike. But then again, so is the swearing. Dammit.”

The whole nail-biting resolution at least should be pretty easy to keep now that Markle will have a royal team dedicated to her hair, makeup, and nails. She’ll never be without a good neutral-tone manicure—it’s a royal rule.

She does give herself some slack when it comes to actually cutting these two habits out of her life. “My nails will be fine, and if I toss out a four letter word once in a blue moon, well frankly I think it adds character,” she wrote.

Markle wrote this blog post before meeting Prince Harry in July of that year. And it seems her other goal for the year ahead might have just helped her in the romance department: “My New Year’s resolution is to leave room for magic. To make my plans, and be okay if they sometimes break. To set my goals, but to be open to change.”

She sure found change—and probably not in a way she would’ve ever expected. Now she’s lunching with Queen Elizabeth II and spending Christmas with the royal family.

In 2018, her life is about to change even more on May 19, when she marries Prince Harry—and we can’t wait to see what that big day brings (#royalweddingdresswatch).

Mariah Carey Is Coming Back to Perform on New Year's Eve

After last year’s technically glitchy New Year’s Eve performance, Mariah Carey is coming back to sing for ABC’s famous live television event, Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve With Ryan Seacrest.

Everyone deserves a second chance, after all. Carey is certainly no exception after her mishap and the backlash that followed last year. Nearly everything that could go wrong on live television happened to Carey in her three-song set.

In case you don’t remember, all was nearly well throughout “Auld Lang Syne”. Then things started to glitch as “Emotions” took off: She said mid-song that her monitors weren’t working. Carey, visibly upset, attempted to push through the 1991 hit as she urged the audience to sing along. She ended the set right before the ball dropped with “We Belong Together”, holding the microphone away from her mouth and interrupting the song with cries of “Happy New Year!”

Following the mishap, Carey’s team said she couldn’t hear her cues and alleged that Dick Clark Productions sabotaged her performance for the ratings. Dick Clark Productions eventually admitted to technical errors.

But time apparently heals all wounds.

“We can all agree that last year didn’t go exactly as planned and we are thrilled to move forward together to provide America with an incredible night of music and celebration,” Carey’s team and Dick Clark Productions said in a joint statement to The Associated Press on Saturday. “See you in Times Square!”

Carey also confirmed her return on her Twitter account.

She’ll kick off the new year alongside former Fifth Harmony member Camila Cabello, Nick Jonas, and country band Sugarland.
