Jennifer Lopez Hosted SNL and Changed Into That Versace Dress on Stage

Jennifer Lopez hosted Saturday Night Live over the weekend and her opening monologue featured a show-stopping quick-change into that Versace dress that’s basically become her legacy (it’s the updated version she pulled out on a runway earlier this year to remind people of her iconic 2001 Grammys look.) The whole bit was framed around how J.Lo has been having her best year ever—she got engaged to Alex Rodriguez, she had a huge sold-out tour, she starred in Hustlers, and, believe it or not, she turned 50. She was so euphoric she broke out into a Christmas song (complete with a Rockettes kick line) that ended with her tearing off a chic tuxedo and revealing the famed deep-V gown.

J.Lo had a lot to celebrate. “I got what every girl from the Bronx dreams of: proposed to by a Yankee,” she joked during her first few minutes onstage while also listing the success of Hustlers and her recent tour. “And I slayed the Met Gala. And that’s not a brag. A doctor diagnosed it on the spot as a fourth-degree slay.”

But the big moment was when she showed off the dress—a nod to her SNL hosting gig in 2001, which also involved the Versace piece. That year, she’d cracked about how her mom had always told her to be prepared, so she’d worn the gown under a purple bathrobe. There had even been a split-second when Bill Hader tried to pull off the beloved fashion moment.

Donatella Versace shouted J.Lo out on Instagram, posting videos from her 2001 SNL appearance and her taking over the mic this week. “Jennifer on SNL in the original jungle dress in 2001, she is still so beautiful today, who can tell the difference!?” she wrote in the caption of the older clip.

Afterward, J.Lo reflected on all the good stuff that’s happened to her in 2019 and commemorated her hosting gig with a photo. “This year has brought many blessings. @nbcsnl, thanks for being one of them. #TheBestIsYetToCome,” she wrote on Instagram.

Alex Rodriguez Was Just as Floored by Jennifer Lopez's Versace Moment as You Were

The world is still reeling at the sheer power of Jennifer Lopez, who at age 50, walked the 2020 Versace runway in a reimagined version of the famous green dress she wore 20 years ago — looking just as good, if not better. She got a standing ovation at the show and tons of love online, but her fiancé and forever cheerleader Alex Rodriguez may have been the most floored of all.

On Saturday, A-Rod was obviously still thinking about the show-stopping moment. He posted a behind-the-scenes shot of J.Lo posing in front of a mirror in the gown. His caption was short but pretty direct: “This woman…,” he wrote.

The former baseball player has always shown his love for the singer through very public displays of affection. Not that that’s surprising; he said 20 years ago that Lopez was his dream date — which, we should point out, was right around the time she first wore the iconic plunging-neck sheer dress to the 2000 Grammy Awards. The couple got engaged this year after dating for two years, but J. Lo has said that they’re not in a rush to start wedding planning. She’s been busy on tour and wrapping up Hustlers, which is being called the “movie of the year” and is getting some serious Oscar buzz.

In an interview with Vogue, J.Lo opened up about the iconic garment, and how it marked a major fashion and pop culture moment (and made her fans’ jaws collectively drop both in 2000 and today).

“That was a moment that captured people’s imaginations, I think . . . in terms of my career, this dress really marked a moment in time,” she said. “Even if you don’t know my music and you don’t know my movies, people know about that moment and that dress. That was it.”

Rachel McAdams Wore Versace and a Breast Pump for Her Latest Magazine Photo Shoot

Rachel McAdams has been keeping a low profile lately—in fact, she kept her recent pregnancy seriously under wraps, and has only just started to speak publicly about her 7-month-old son with boyfriend Jamie Linden. But in her latest fashion editorial, the actress is sending a message to new moms like her.

McAdams appears on the cover of Girls. Girls. Girls., photographed by Claire Rothstein, the magazine’s founder and editor. In the shoot, she’s wearing designers like Adam Selman, Cushnie, Bulgari… and, in one picture, Versace and a breast pump. The photographer shared the story behind that last look on her personal Instagram.

“Obviously #rachelmcadams looks incredible and was quite literally the dream to work with but also this shoot was about 6 months post her giving birth to her son, so between shots she was expressing/pumping as still breastfeeding,” Rothstein wrote in the caption. “We had a mutual appreciation disagreement about who’s idea it was to take this picture but I’m still sure it was hers which makes me love her even more.”

“Breastfeeding is the most normal thing in the world and I can’t for the life of me imagine why or how it is ever frowned upon or scared of,” Rothstein continued. “I don’t even think it needs explaining but just wanted to put this out there, as if it even changes one person’s perception of something so natural, so normal, so amazing then that’s great. Besides she’s wearing Versace and Bulgari diamonds and is just fucking major. Big shout out to all the girls.”

McAdams certainly does look amazing—and anything that helps make breastfeeding something everyone feels comfortable speaking about is a good thing. Since Rothstein shared the image and the story behind it, social media users have been praising the actress. “HELLO WORLD. THIS IS RACHEL MCADAMS BREAST PUMPING IN VERSACI AND BULGARI. I HAVE NEVER SCREAMED SO HARD IN MY LIFE,” one tweeted. Another called McAdams a “true queen” for pumping during her shoot.

McAdams told People that motherhood “the greatest thing that’s ever happened to me, hands down.” She hasn’t shared much on the topic, but in this case, a picture is worth a thousand words.

Michael Kors Is Buying Versace for $2 Billion

Fashion Week surprises usually tend to be focused around designers leaving their posts or assuming new ones, but this season, changes are happening at the highest level at two of the most well-known fashion houses. Michael Kors has announced that it’s set to acquire Versace for approximately $2.12 billion, Business of Fashion reports. The sale is expected to close in late 2019.

Though it may seem like a surprising pairing, it’s part of a larger, ongoing effort on Kors’ part to build a U.S.-based luxury powerhouse, like a stateside version of LVMH (the conglomerate that owns Louis Vuitton, Fendi, Christian Dior, among others) or Kering (parent company of Gucci, Alexander McQueen, Balenciaga, and more). Last summer, the company bought Jimmy Choo for $1.2 billion, according to the New York Times. With this acquisition, it competes with Tapestry (owner of Coach, Kate Spade New York, and Stuart Weitzman) and PVH Corp. (which operates Calvin Klein and Tommy Hilfiger.)

With Versace under its belt, Michael Kors Holdings Limited will be renamed Capri Holdings, a reference to “the fabled island which has long been recognized as an iconic, glamorous, and luxury destination,” according to a statement from the company. Jonathan Akeroyd and Donatella Versace will remain chief executive and creative director of Versace, respectively. Santo, Donatella’s brother, and Allegra, her daughter, will have a stake in Capri—which, the designer told Business of Fashion, “demonstrates our belief in the long-term success of Versace and commitment to this new global fashion luxury group.”

“The acquisition of Versace is an important milestone for our group,” John Idol, chief executive officer of Michael Kors, told Bloomberg. “We are committed to investing in its growth.”

Capri Holdings’ plan for Versace is to grow its retail business (from 200 to 300 stores globally), expand its e-commerce, and increase its accessories and footwear business (from its current 35 percent to 60 percent), per Business of Fashion. So fans of the Italian brand’s aesthetic needn’t worry: The rococo-meets-’90s look that has made its most recent collections Instagram sensations will remain, with Donatella still at the helm. (In 2017, Gianni Versace SpA reported 686 million euros in revenue and a return to profit, according to Bloomberg.)

Naturally, the public has strong opinions about the news.

Michael Kors and Versace haven’t returned Glamour’s request for comment.

Blake Lively Just Wore a Highlighter-Green Versace Menswear Suit, and She Looks Incredible

Blake Lively is no stranger to being extra when it comes to her OOTDs—or her formalwear, either (her Met Gala dress famously took more than 600 hours to make). Case in point: On Friday, she stepped out in New York City wearing not one, but two velvet blazers (and no shirt) in autumnal jewel tones. She has definitely pulled off multiple outfit changes during the day during press tours in the past (gotta look ~ fresh ~), and Friday was no different. Along with the velvet outfit, she also wore the most neon-y green suit we’ve ever seen—and she looks incredible.

Lively’s look was full-on monochrome and coordinated, and we know where she drew her inspiration: from the runway of Versace’s S/S ’19 menswear show, where a model marched down the runway in the exact same pointelle-knit sweater, jacket, and trouser combo. (She seems to have tailored the fit of the trousers a bit—Versace showed them a bit longer and slouchier—but it seems more Lively’s speed this way.)

Who among us couldn’t take a page from Lively’s book here—after all, if you see something you like, who cares whether it’s from the men’s or women’s department? We’re feeling all sorts of inspired now (and, well, it’s almost flannel shirt and cozy sweater season).

Amal Clooney Wore a Atelier Versace Gown for Her First Red Carpet Appearance Since the Twins

PHOTO: Franco Origlia/Getty Images

Human-rights lawyer Amal Clooney stepped out on the red carpet at the Venice Film Festival for the first time since she and her husband, actor George Clooney, had their twins. Named Ella and Alexander, the two babies were born at the beginning of June. Since then, the power couple has been busy—and not just with the newborns. They’ve been busy planning to open a school for Syrian refugees in the U.S., and George has been prepping for the premiere of his latest directorial effort, Suburbicon. And that brings us back to the Venice Film Festival, where Amal looked stunning. (But did you expect anything else?)

Amal paired her red lipstick, on-point brows, and vintage curls with a gorgeous full-length lavender silk dress—with a hint of peach peeking through from the last layer of chiffon. The gown itself is Atelier Versace, a line she’s worn more than a few times.

On Friday, she wore another elegant look. She was pictured leaving a restaurant in Venice with George wearing a strapless sapphire Missoni Resort 2018 gown, complete with layers of iridescent blue fringe that definitely call for some twirling.

But back to that Venice Film Festival dress: Check it out, below. Dreamy, right?

Of course, we’ve always kept an eye on Amal’s style because it’s just so damn good. After all, she took her maternity outfits to the next level pretty much right after the couple announced their pregnancy (that dramatic red coat!).

We’re hoping to see more of the Clooneys after this first official post-baby appearance—if only to catch more of Amal’s beautiful wardrobe.
