Watch Sophie Turner Realize the Game of Thrones Ending Was Hidden in a Season 1 Poster

Last week we wrote about a Game of Thrones poster from season one that basically revealed the ending of the show hidden in plain sight. That secret spoiler made its way to Sophie Turner in a recent interview, and she was understandably shook that she didn’t catch it either.

In the promo image from about eight years ago, you can see Ned Stark brooding on the Iron Throne. The picture was resurfaced by Twitter user @thommybell, who noticed there’s a clue buried deep in the photo. If you look closely, you can see a raven sitting next to Ned—a dead giveaway that his son Bran Stark, a.k.a. The Three-Eyed Raven, ends up as the leader of the Seven Kingdoms. No one noticed the tiny detail, and most people were amazed once it was pointed out—including Turner.

While doing promo for her new movie Dark Phoenix, Metro U.K. asked Turner if there had been any foreshadowing that fans missed when it came to her character Sansa Stark’s storyline. Turner said the only hint was in the first episode, when Sansa tells her mother, “I want to be queen, Mommy, someday.” That’s when her Dark Phoenix costar Jessica Chastain pointed out the whole poster spoiler.

“You know the poster for the first season—you know what’s on it?” Chastain says in the video. “So it’s your papa on the throne, and there’s a raven on the throne, right to his right.”

Naturally, Turner’s reaction was absolutely priceless.

Turner has been answering tons of questions about Game of Thrones on this press junket. Just a few days ago, Sky News asked her if she ever saw herself reprising her role as Sansa. Her answer will break your heart, though it’s understandable in a way: “I think it’s time to say goodbye to Sansa,” she told the outlet.

“I’m ready-ish to say goodbye to her. I think my watch has ended. I just think it’s been 10 years of my life and the best 10 years of my life by far, and I finished in a very happy place with Sansa and it’s time to let her go.”

Here's How Sophie Turner Feels About Reprising Sansa in the Game of Thrones Spinoffs

The final episode of Game of Thrones was controversial, but one plot line most people seemed to appreciate was (spoiler alert!) Sansa Stark—played by Sophie Turner—being crowned the Warden of the North. Because she’s one of the few characters whose story didn’t end in gut-wrenching tragedy, some have wondered if Sansa might make an appearance in one of the many spinoff shows GoT writer George RR Martin has said are in development. But that probably won’t happen. In a new interview with Sky News this week, Turner said she’s pretty much done with Sansa for now. As she put it, revisiting her character would “just be more trauma.”

“I think it’s time to say goodbye to Sansa,” Turner said, “I’m ready-ish to say goodbye to her, I think my watch has ended. I just think it’s been 10 years of my life and the best 10 years of my life by far, and I finished in a very happy place with Sansa and it’s time to let her go.”

Sophie Turner started filming Game of Thrones when she was 14 years old, and the show has followed her into adulthood. She previously shared that the show caught her in a rough part of adolescence: She battled depression and frequently turned to her co-star and close friend, Maisie Williams, who played her sister Arya Stark. After the show ended, she took some time off to focus on her mental health.

“I actually am still on my break,” she said. “I took a break off of work to focus on my mental health because I thought it was important.”

Turner commemorated the end of the show with an epic tattoo that showed a direwolf and the text, “The pack survives.” It seemed like a very final gesture, but who knows how things will change as the spinoffs take shape. So far, we only know about a prequel in the works, and it takes place thousands of years before Game of Thrones—so we definitely shouldn’t plan on seeing Sansa.

Taylor Swift and Sophie Turner Did an Interview Together—and It Was Glorious

Taylor Swift and Sophie Turner are supremely talented performers in their own rights. They’ve also both dated Joe Jonas, which the world is way more interested in reading about for obvious reasons. To refresh your memory, Turner is currently married to Jonas, while Swift saw him back in 2008. This decade-old relationship popped back up in the zeitgeist last week when Swift revealed that the most rebellious thing she did as a teenager was call Jonas out on The Ellen Show for breaking up with her over a 25-second phone call. “That was too much,” Swift said, ironically, on The Ellen Show. “Yeah, that was too much. I was 18. We laugh about it now. That was mouthy, yeah, teenage stuff there.”

And this week brings yet another reminder that Taylor Swift and Joe Jonas were, at one point, a thing. Both she and Sophie Turner appeared on the U.K. late-night series The Graham Norton Show last night, which is the first time the women have come face to face—that we know of, at least. Don’t get it twisted, though: There wasn’t any drama. Rather, it looks like they had a blast chatting with each other. In fact, after seeing them interact, I’m now fully on board with the idea of Swift and Turner having their own show. Who do I call to make that happen? Kris Jenner?

Check out a short video clip from the taping, below, in which Swift talks about getting into two car accidents on the same day with a Rolling Stone journalist:

And here are some still shots from the show. I’m living for Turner’s bangs and Swift’s sparkly fuchsia minidress.

The “ME!” singer took to Instagram shortly after the show to give Turner—and the other actors who appeared with them—some love.

“Thank you @thegrahamnortonshow for having me and the band!! It airs tonight,” she wrote. “Feeling pretty lucky that I got to be a guest on the same night as @sophiet, Michael Fassbender, @Jessicachastain and @Jamesmcavoyrealdeal- They were all so sweet, now I want to just walk around yelling GO SEE DARK PHOENIX. “

Yup, I really need this friendship to happen now.

Sophie Turner Just Shut Down That Fan Petition to Redo 'Game of Thrones' Season 8

This post contains spoilers for the final season of Game of Thrones. Consider yourself warned.

Game of Thrones may be over, but the debate about how it ended will likely go on forever. That’s what happens when a show and its characters are so beloved. You’ll still easily find pockets of people ready to debate the finales of Seinfeld, The Sopranos, or Lost at any given moment.

But Sophie Turner (a.k.a Sansa Stark), for one, is not here for the backlash, most specifically the petition started by fans who want to completely redo the show’s eighth and final season. But she kind of expected the divided reaction.

“Honestly, I’m not surprised. People always have an idea in their heads of how they want a show to finish, and so when it doesn’t go to their liking, they start to speak up about it and rebel,” she told the New York Times. “The thing about Game of Thrones that’s always been amazing is the fact that there’s always been crazy twists and turns, right from Season 1 with Ned’s beheading. So Daenerys becoming something of the Mad Queen — it shouldn’t be such a negative thing for fans. It’s a shock for sure, but I think it’s just because it hasn’t gone their way.”

HBO

But feeling that way and demanding the show be changed, well that’s a different story. “All of these petitions and things like that — I think it’s disrespectful to the crew, and the writers, and the filmmakers who have worked tirelessly over 10 years, and for 11 months shooting the last season,” she continued. “Like 50-something night shoots. So many people worked so, so hard on it, and for people to just rubbish it because it’s not what they want to see is just disrespectful.”

Turner also weighed in on that controversial scene where Sansa appeared to be crediting her abusers with making her the woman she became. “I obviously think that’s not a message to spread. But I don’t think that was the intention,” she said. “It was that she was strong in spite of all of the horrific things that she’s gone through, not because of them. She’s had resilience since the very beginning, and despite all of these awful things that happened to her, she’s kept that resilience. Sansa to the core is resilient and brave and strong, and that had nothing to do with her abusers.”

The Queen in the North has spoken—and that’s the tea.

Emilia Clarke and Sophie Turner Penned Emotional Farewells to 'Game of Thrones'

Tonight is truly the end of an era: Game of Thrones, one of the most talked-about shows of recent years, is ending after almost a decade. It’s been eight seasons of blood, sweat, and tears (speaking for the characters here) as Westeros’ contenders have fought their way to the Iron Thrones. Although we’re not sure who’s going to wind up on it—that answer will play out in Sunday night’s finale—it’s safe to say that the last episode is going to be an emotional one for the show’s fans. But it’s a big night for the cast, too: After all, they’ve been inhabiting their characters for years—some of them for the duration of the show—and for younger members like Emilia Clarke, who plays Mother of Dragons Daenerys Targaryen, and Sophie Turner, who plays Sansa Stark, that means their characters have taken up most of their adult years. Leaving them behind after tonight is a big deal. Both actresses took to Instagram on Sunday to pay tribute to their time with Game of Thrones—and the posts will truly tug at your heartstrings.

“Finding the words to write this post has left me overwhelmed with how much I want to say but how small words feel in comparison to what this show and Dany have meant to me,” Clarke wrote in hers. The mother of dragons chapter has taken up the whole of my adult life. This woman has taken up the whole of my heart. I’ve sweated in the blaze of dragon fire, shed many tears at those who left our family early, and wrung my brain dry trying to do Khaleesi and the masterful words, actions (and names) I was given, justice.”

Clarke continued: “Game of Thrones has shaped me as a woman, as an actor and as a human being. I just wish my darling dad was here now to see how far we’ve flown. But to you, dear kind magical fans, I owe you so much thanks, for your steady gaze at what we’ve made and what I’ve done with a character that was already in the hearts of many before I slipped on the platinum wig of dreams. Without you there is no us. And now our watch has ended.”

Turner didn’t spare us any tissues with her post, either. She addressed her character directly in a thank-you note to Stark:

“Sansa, Thank you for teaching me resilience, bravery and what true strength really is. Thank you teaching me to be kind and patient and to lead with love,” she wrote. “I grew up with you. I fell in love with you at 13 and now 10 years on.. at 23 I leave you behind, but I will never leave behind what you’ve taught me. To the show and the incredible people who make it, thank you for giving me the best life and drama lessons I could have ever asked for. Without you I wouldn’t be the person I am today. Thank you for giving me this chance all those years ago. And finally to the fans. Thank you for falling in love with these characters and supporting this show right through till the end. I’ll miss this more than anything.”

It’s truly the end of an era, but we can’t wait to see what these two lend their talents to next.

Sophie Turner Hints At Sansa Stark's Fate Ahead of GOT Series Finale

In a new Sunday Times magazine article, Game of Thrones star Sophie Turner touched on mental health, her relationship with her now-husband Joe Jonas, and the series finale of GoT, which airs Sunday (May 19) on HBO. Specifically, she dropped a rare hint about how everything will wrap up for her character, Sansa Stark—and to be honest, it’s hard to know what to make of it.

Fans are still in shock from last week’s episode, which had a massive twist that left viewers reeling and wondering how it will all end (no spoilers here about all that, but feel free to read more on that here). As the end of the series approaches, Turner told the UK-based paper that the ending of the 8-year long television show was “satisfying” for her. However, there’s a huge “but” in there for the rest of us.

Stark’s long been considered a contender to take the throne—as is Daenerys, Jon Snow, and Arya. And while she’s definitely not giving anything away with her statement on the ending, it does leave us wondering. “It’s a great ending, from my perspective, it’s very satisfying,” she told The Sunday Times magazine. “But I think a lot of people will be upset too.”

We might not know exactly what’s happening, but at least one person outside of the cast does: Turner told the outlet that she spilled the beans to Jonas—much to his chagrin.

“I’ve just told Joe. But he’s so mad at me—he loves the show!” she said. “Well, I have to tell someone, otherwise I’ll burst.”

This isn’t the first time Turner’s dropped hints about tonight’s episode. She told 60 Minutes earlier this year that “some people will be satisfied, others not so much.”

Luckily, we only have to wait a few more hours to find out exactly what’s going to go down in Westeros.
