Demi Lovato Shared an Unedited Photo of Her Cellulite: 'I'm Tired of Being Ashamed'

Demi Lovato is ready for a new phase in her life—one in which she shares her most authentic self, in every sense of the word.

Lovato has never been one to keep quiet on matters that are important to her, of course, but a new extremely personal and powerful photo she posted on Instagram is one many women will be able to relate to. The photo is of Lovato in a bathing suit, completely unedited.

“This is my biggest fear. A photo of me in a bikini unedited,” she wrote in the caption. “And guess what, it’s CELLULIT!!!! [sic] I’m just literally sooooo tired of being ashamed of my body, editing it (yes the other bikini pics were edited – and I hate that I did that but it’s the truth) so that others think I’m THEIR idea of what beautiful is, but it’s just not me.”

She goes on to explain why it’s important to her to shed the trappings of a Photoshopped world. “This is what I got. I want this new chapter in my life to be about being authentic to who I am rather than trying to meet someone else’s standards,” she wrote. “So here’s me, unashamed, unafraid and proud to own a body that has fought through so much and will continue to amaze me when I hopefully give birth one day.”

Lovato, who recently shot an episode of Will & Grace is happy with where her career—and life in general—is right now. “It’s such a great feeling to be back in tv/film while not stressing myself with a strenuous workout schedule before 14 hour days, or depriving myself from a real birthday cake rather than opting for watermelon & whip cream with candles because I was terrified of REAL cake and was miserable on some crazy diet shit,” she says.

She continues, “Anyway, here’s me, RAW, REAL! And I love me. And you should love you too! Now back to the studio.. I’m working on an anthem.. also. Just so everyone’s clear.. I’m not stoked on my appearance BUT I am appreciative of it and sometimes that’s the best I can do. I hope to inspire someone to appreciate their body today too. #nationalcelulliteday #celluLIT”

Several celebrities and friends of Lovato’s took to the comments section to praise the singer for speaking out. “Showing us YOU is so incredibly beautiful. Thank you Demi! Love you Mama!” wrote Ashley Graham. Hailey Bieber shared some flame emojis and added, “U LOOK INCREDIBLE.” The Bachelorette star Mike Johnson wrote, “Look at me like that again…love yaself.” And Lovato’s manager, Scooter Braun, said, “YOU did this. YOU. YOU are amazing…YOU are smart…you are beautiful… you are wonderful… you are brave…and you are kind. And I’m proud of YOU. Hell Im proud to know YOU! Bravo for loving YOU first and in turn inspiring millions.”

Ruth Bader Ginsburg Just Shared an Update About Her Health

A week after the Supreme Court announced that Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg had been treated for pancreatic cancer—her fourth cancer diagnosis, and her second of pancreatic cancer—Ginsburg herself decided to share an update about her health. On Saturday (August 31), while appearing at the 2019 Library of Congress National Book Festival in Washington, D.C., she addressed the crowd with some dry humor.

“As this audience can see I am alive. And I’m on my way to being very well,” she said, according to People.

Ginsburg, who’s lovingly nicknamed “The Notorious RBG,” also said she’d be “prepared” for when the Supreme Court’s next session kicks off again. “We have more than a month yet to go. I will be prepared when the time comes.”

“I love my job. It’s the best and the hardest job that I have ever had. It’s kept me going through four cancer battles,” she continued. “Instead of concentrating on my aches and pains, I just know that I have to read this set of briefs, go over the draft opinion. I have to somehow surmount whatever is going on in my body and concentrate on the court’s work.”

Ginsburg, who is famously dedicated to her job—last December, she registered her opposition to Trump’s asylum reform bill from her hospital bed—spoke in a very similar vein in July. During an interview with NPR, she seemed to reference the late Kentucky senator Jim Bunning, who, after one of her cancer diagnoses, said he thought she’d be dead in a year. “There was a senator, I think it was after the pancreatic cancer, who announced with great glee that I was going to be dead within six months. That senator, whose name I’ve forgotten, is now himself dead. And I am very much alive,” Ginsburg said.

She mentioned then too how her work is what kept her going. “The work is really what saved me because I had to concentrate on reading the briefs, doing a draft of an opinion, and I knew it had to get done,” she said in the July NPR interview. “So I had to get past whatever my aches and pains were just to do the job.”

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry Just Shared Some New Photos From Their 2017 Africa Trip

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have a deep connection to Botswana. They spent five days camping there together early on in their relationship, a period that Prince Harry has referred to in the past as “crucial.” Even the diamonds from her engagement ring were sourced from the country.

They’ve returned to Botswana a few times since then, including a trip in 2017 that made it onto their joint Instagram account this week. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex shared photos of themselves providing aid at one of Botswana’s elephant conservation centers in honor of World Elephant Day, and offered fans an update about their work with the nonprofit organization Elephants Without Borders. In a caption, the royals explained that outreach efforts supported by the Ellen Fund have helped Elephants Without Borders outfit 25 elephants with satellite navigation collars.

“These collars allow the team at EWB to track the elephants, as well as to learn their essential migratory patterns to keep their corridors safe and open so future generations of elephants can roam freely. In honour of this amazing support, EWB have named their most recently collared Elephant…ELLEN! We can’t wait to see where she will go!” they wrote.

This isn’t the first time they’ve shared photos from their Botswana trips. In April, ahead of the premiere of David Attenborough’s nature documentary series Our Planet, they posted another image of the two of them putting one of the collars on an elephant together.

“As president of @africanparksnetwork, The Duke of Sussex continues to advocate for the communities and wildlife that coexist in some of the most vulnerable environments around the world,” the Instagram caption reads. “Be it human wildlife conflict or natural disasters, these communities (park rangers, school children, families) are on the front line of conservation and we must do more to help them as we also work to safeguard the animals and landscapes that are in critical danger.”

Meghan Markle Just Shared Some Never-Before-Seen Pregnancy Photos

Meghan Markle announced on Tuesday that, in addition to guest-editing the September issue of British Vogue, she’s been hard at work on another special project. Later this year she’s
launching a workwear collection with four brands—Marks & Spencer, John Lewis & Partners, Jigsaw, and Misha Nonoo—to benefit her patronage Smart Works, a U.K. charity that helps unemployed women get back into the work force.

On Wednesday, Markle provided a little more insight into the effort by sharing several photos of visits she made to Smart Works while she was pregnant with Baby Archie, whom she gave birth to in May. The images were posted to the official Sussex Royal Instagram account, and the caption states that Markle was moved by the “impactful work” she saw when she met with the charity. The organization not only helps women get the skills they need to feel job-ready, it also provides them with donated clothes they can use in their place of business. This is where Markle thought she could help.

“Throughout her visits she noticed that while the donations were plentiful, they were also notably a combination of mismatched items and colors which weren’t always the right stylistic choices or sizes that didn’t necessarily ‘suit’ the job at hand: to make a woman feel confident and inspired as she walked into her job interview,” the Instagram caption reads. “As a result, launching this autumn, The Duchess will be supporting a collective to help equip the women of Smart Works with the key workwear essentials they need as they enter into the workplace.”

The photos show Markle hugging women involved in the charity, rifling through the available clothing options, and sitting in meeting rooms with Smart Works personnel. The images are proof of how hard Markle was working even while she was pregnant. “Not only does this allow us to be part of each other’s story; it reminds us we are in it together,” Markle wrote in Vogue.

Michelle Obama Shared Some Powerful Relationship Advice: 'Marry Your Equal'

In addition to being an accomplished lawyer, a style icon, and record-breaking author, Michelle Obama is also like another mother when it comes to dispensing extremely valuable life advice. On Saturday night (July 6) during the Essence Festival, she was at it again, sharing some of her thoughts on dating and marriage. Obama left the audience with some thoughtful advice about why women should find an equal who wants “you to win as much as you want them to win.”

The sage words came during a keynote conversation with CBS anchor Gayle King. The topic turned to marriage, and Obama quickly broke in with the philosophies that have helped her and Barack Obama through more than 26 years that have included two children and two terms in the White House.

“Marriage is a choice you make every day,” she explained. “You don’t do it because it’s easy. You do it because you believe in it. You believe in the other person.”

“And ladies and gentleman, that’s why it’s so important to marry somebody that you respect,” she continued, “It’s important to marry somebody who is your equal, and to marry and be with somebody who wants you to win as much as you want them to win.”

The idea, she said, has some parallel to sports. “My husband is my teammate. If we are going to win this game together, he has to be strong and he has to be okay with me being strong. I do not want a weak player on my team, nor does he. But sometimes, we accept weak in one another because it feels easy. And be cautious of the man or woman who wants just the easy person.”

As a couple, the Obamas have constantly shown they have an unbelievably strong handle on working together. There’s the sweet stuff, like social media tributes and Spotify playlists, but they’ve always spoken about being each other’s source of support and encouragement. Power-couple goals? You bet.
