Selena Gomez Wrote Her Little Sister a Sweet Message About Being Fearless


We know Selena Gomez as an amazing actress, singer, style icon, designer, friend, and girlfriend—but it seems we also need to add “incredible big sister” to her list of many talents.

Last night, the singer shared an Instagram video with her 4-year-old sister, Gracie Elliot Teefey. The two are sitting by the ocean deep in conversation when Gracie says, “I’m not scared.” Selena responds by saying, “Because you are fearless, right? You’re not scared of anything, right?” Then the two share a high five.

Selena captioned her video with this sweet message: “I will forever let my sister know she is strong, bold, and beautiful. She will be raised to know her voice matters. She is going to understand the importance behind being a leader and inspire others by her truth.”

Selena certainly knows a thing or two about being fearless and inspiring people with her honesty. The “Bad Liar” singer underwent a recent kidney transplant and chemotherapy a few years ago to aid her ongoing battle with Lupus. She’s also a big mental health advocate, and takes her job as a role model for millions of young girls seriously.

And though Gracie might be the only one lucky enough to get to call Selena Gomez her big sister, we can all take Sel’s advice to heart—especially considering the thousands of women, in Hollywood and beyond, who have been coming forward this week with their stories of sexual harassment and assault.

Fans Caught Selena Gomez and The Weeknd on the Scariest Date Last Night


Selena Gomez and The Weeknd don’t let their busy schedules get in the way of couple’s time. Gomez proved this last week when she flew from New York City to Vancouver just for a quick getaway, and The Weeknd did something similar in July when he jetted from Paris to Los Angeles just to spend time with Gomez on her birthday. Listen, when you’re two in-demand pop stars, you have to do what it takes to make a relationship work.

Case in point: Last night, the couple was spotted getting their spook on at Universal Studios’ Halloween Horror Nights in Los Angeles. For context, the Weeknd was in Sacramento literally the day before on tour, and he’s headed to Anaheim today for another show. That’s a lot of traveling, and yet he still found some time to be cute with Gomez in an amusement park.

Well, as cute as you can be in the rain. The videos fans captured of Gomez and The Weeknd at the park showed them (and the other visitors) wearing hoodies and plastic raincoats, so the weather wasn’t exactly ideal for a date. Of course, they looked better than most people do in horrible weather.

Gomez and The Weeknd rarely talk about their relationship, but they have no issues showing a little PDA or doing things where photographers can spot them. “It’s really hard when I would want to spend so much time hiding things,” Gomez said over the summer. “It’s too much pressure, and I think everyone gets over everything eventually. I just want to be happy. If that’s me just being myself, then I don’t really care.”

Selena Gomez Surprised Dakota Johnson for Her Birthday


Dakota Johnson got quite the surprise when her pal Selena Gomez gave a cute sneak-attack while Dakota was attending the New York Film Festival on Tuesday evening.

Let’s set the scene for you: Dakota, who was a day away from celebrating her 28th birthday, attended the screening of Luca Guadagnino’s drama Call Me By Your Name at the festival. (She previously worked with Luca on another film, the equally dramatic and sensuous A Bigger Splash, which is likely why she was in attendance.) Selena surprised Dakota outside of the screening, and the two immediately starting hugging and giggling and chatting like a couple of, well, close friends. They were in such good spirits about seeing each other that they even took a few selfies with fans and socialized with the crowd around them.

While the two ingénues are usually quite candid in interviews, neither has actually expounded about the genesis of their friendship in the past. Instead, they let their friendship status be known to the world by accompanying each other to some of Hollywood’s most glamorous events. And, of course, Selena and Dakota have been a part of Taylor Swift’s inner circle of friends for awhile now—the “squad,” if you will—along with other lovely ladies such as Cara Delevingne and Lorde. So, how Alex Russo and Anastasia Steele officially met is up to your imagination.

Selena Gomez Has a New Athleisure Gig with Puma

Selena Gomez and the Weeknd were already the golden pair of pop music; now, they have matching athleisure collaborations to cement their status as everyone’s favorite couple-of-the-moment. The lucky brand? Puma, who announced today that Gomez will join the Weeknd as an official ambassador.

“Fearless talent and ? of Instagram joins the family,” Puma captioned an image of Gomez, clad in a branded velvet top, sport shorts, and trainers. The performer also took to Instagram, her medium of choice, to confirm the news; in her post, she shared a glimpse at the collection in a Puma sportsbra, high-waist leggings, and oval sunnies. (Though The Weeknd didn’t post anything on his main feed, he did repost one of the lookbook shots on his Instagram Story.)

In her inaugural campaign, Gomez is photographed solo (sorry, no official couple campaigns just yet) in Puma’s Phenom sneaker. In an interview with Vogue, the newly-appointed ambassador shared that she’s obsessed with the collection’s versatility: “It’s all these pieces that you know are going to look good together, so it’s just kind of throwing this on, throwing that on,” she said.

“When it comes to this whole world of fashion—that’s what I’m going to call it—I think it’s become this collaborative thing where streetwear and fashion blend into one,” she continued. “It’s a really beautiful thing because I see girls now feeling sexy in not even necessarily workout clothes, but clothes you could go work out in, then put on a cute pair of shoes and go out after. That’s what’s so crazy about now. Even just throwing something over a workout pant or just sweats, you kind of feel like you can do whatever you want.”

We should’ve seen this coming when Gomez matched Puma XO ‘Parallel’ sneakers with The Weeknd. (He happened to co-design the style.) Clearly, the two know how to make a piece work for either wardrobe—and, according to her interview with Vogue, she and Abel also share hoodies. Surely with this collaboration, there will be more his-and-hers athleisure moments to be envious of.

Not only is she joining her significant other in this latest venture, but Gomez now finds herself among the ranks of Puma girls Cara Delevigne and Kylie Jenner—and, of course, Rihanna.So, what exactly can we expect from the partnership? Per Vogue, Gomez will help design products (!) and direct a few upcoming campaigns (!!!) in the next few months. More athleisure for all!

The Weeknd Reportedly Scheduled His Tour Around Selena Gomez's Kidney Transplant

The Weeknd (a.k.a. Abel Tesfaye) may make a good Instagram husband for Selena Gomez, but that’s just a small reason why he’s a good partner for her. One big one, however? His support for Selena Gomez during her struggles with her health.

The “Fetish” singer recently revealed in an emotional Instagram post that she underwent a kidney transplant this summer. While her friend Francia Raisa was the one who selflessly donated the kidney, it seems her boyfriend of almost a year was also an incredibly supportive figure throughout the emotional and physically painful time. According to People, the R&B singer even scheduled his performances around Selena’s surgery and recovery.

Though Selena has not revealed the exact date of her surgery, we do know that The Weeknd had some breaks in his tour schedule this summer; per People, he was initially announced as a performer for the 2017 MTV VMAs on August 27, but he did not appear, making fans speculate it was so he could spend more time with Gomez. (The two have been spotted on several dates around New York City over the summer—even reportedly moving in together and getting a puppy—so the speculation is fitting.)

Furthermore, TMZ is reporting that Selena went in to kidney failure in May as a result of complications from lupus, a disease that causes the body’s immune system to attack its own organs and tissues. Selena was reportedly suffering while visiting The Weeknd on tour in Chicago and Abel was “right by her side.” (TMZ adds that at that point Selena was already on a kidney transplant list.)

The Weeknd has yet to say anything publicly about his girlfriend’s health, but he has been showing his love and support in more subtle ways as of late. Glad to see Selena has a strong support system to help her recover.

Francia Raisa Breaks Her Silence on Donating Her Kidney to Selena Gomez


Selena Gomez took to Instagram Wednesday morning to reveal that she recently underwent a kidney transplant. The procedure—which Gomez needed because of lupus—happened over the summer, and her friend, actress Francia Raisa, was the donor.

“There aren’t words to describe how I can possibly thank my beautiful friend Francia Raisa. She gave me the ultimate gift and sacrifice by donating her kidney to me. I am incredibly blessed,” Gomez wrote on Instagram. The accompanied photo, which shows Gomez and Raisa at the hospital, has over 5 million likes and several-thousand comments—and you can feel the love bursting through each of them.

And now, Raisa is opening up about the transplant. The 29-year-old posted the same photo to her own Instagram and wrote about her love for Gomez.

“I am beyond grateful that God would trust me with something that not only saved a life, but changed mine in the process,” she wrote. “This was part of our story, and we will share it soon, but what is important now is that this is not the only story.” She then included some information about lupus awareness and ended her post with, “Love you sis, so glad we’re on this journey together.”

Gomez’s struggle with lupus became public in 2015. Last fall, she took a break to deal with anxiety and depression triggered by the autoimmune disease. She returned to the spotlight in November 2016 and has put out consistent work since then, including her two new singles, “Bad Liar” and “Fetish.”

“[The transplant] was what I needed to do for my overall health,” Gomez also wrote on Instagram. “I honestly look forward to sharing with you, soon my journey through these past several months as I have always wanted to do with you.”
