Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt Are Reportedly Both Officially Single Again

Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt have been in the process of divorcing for more than two and a half years, but it seems like things might be beginning to wrap up. People reported on Saturday (April 13) that the two are officially single again. However, there’s a twist—and it’s pretty important.

A judge has now ruled that the two can be considered single in the eyes of the law. The term for this is called “bifurcation,” and The Blast, which first broke the report, writes that the ruling in their case was filed Friday, April 12. What bifurcation does is allow them to keep hammering out the final details of their divorce while otherwise basically ending the marriage. So they’re single, but not quite yet divorced-divorced—and it’s a way for them to start getting some emotional distance as the process wraps up, too.

“We’re both doing our best. I heard one lawyer say, ‘No one wins in court—it’s just a matter of who gets hurt worse,'” Pitt told GQ back in 2017, just months after the initial divorce filing. “And it seems to be true, you spend a year just focused on building a case to prove your point and why you’re right and why they’re wrong, and it’s just an investment in vitriolic hatred. I just refuse. And fortunately my partner in this agrees. It’s just very, very jarring for the kids, to suddenly have their family ripped apart.”

Jolie filed for divorce in September 2016, about two years after the two had married in France, citing “irreconcilable differences” as the reason for separation and asking for custody of their six children. The divorce has definitely dragged on—mostly, reports People, due to conversations about finances and custody, and it’s still not finalized yet. But hey, it’s one step closer to closure for Brangelina.

Why Can't Everyone Stop Shipping Jennifer Aniston and Brad Pitt?

Jennifer Aniston‘s face was on the cover of the New York Post the day after Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt announced their divorce. Not Jolie’s face. Not Pitt’s. Aniston’s.

The picture is a happy one—deliriously, flamboyantly happy. Her eyes are squinting, and her mouth’s in the shape of a big, goofy grin, as if she were on Space Mountain at Disney World. “Brangelina: 2004–2016” was printed on the top left corner in small font, and Aniston’s face explained the rest. Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie’s marriage was dead, the Post said, and Jennifer Aniston was dancing on its grave.

This, in a nutshell, perfectly encapsulates the public’s relationship with Aniston for the past 14 years. Her happiness, in their eyes, has been determined solely on her love life—specifically in comparison to Pitt’s. By now their love triangle is ancient history: Aniston and Pitt were married from 2000 to 2005, and they divorced shortly after he met Jolie on the set of Mr. & Mrs. Smith. There were allegations of infidelity on Pitt’s end that were never confirmed, but the media had already painted its narrative: Pitt and Jolie are happy, and Aniston’s sad.

New York Post

Sad and single. That last word is key, because apparently Aniston can’t be fulfilled if she’s single—even though she has millions of dollars, a great career, and good health. But the tides turned, interestingly, in February 2018 when news broke Aniston and her husband, Justin Theroux, were divorcing after two years of marriage. The only reason people were cool with Aniston being single then (and now) is because Pitt is also unattached. Tweets about them possibly getting back together are, unsurprisingly, all over the Internet:

These feelings intensified even more over the weekend, when Pitt was spotted outside Aniston’s 50th birthday party in West Hollywood. To be clear, we don’t even know how much they interacted. Aniston had a ton of friends there—Katy Perry, Gwyneth Paltrow, and Reese Witherspoon, to name a few—so it’s very possible they just exchanged pleasantries and moved on. They’re adults, people. It’s entirely possible to be friends with your ex.

Of course, fans are metaphorically ringing the wedding bells over this news:

Which is bullshit, of course. Twitter’s shipping of Aniston and Pitt right now is beyond problematic because it suggests, yet again, that Aniston is incapable of being happy on her own—that Brad Effing Pitt has been the key this entire time, and now she can finally have him. It’s insulting.

Aniston is one of the most accomplished and in-demand actresses in Hollywood, with a reported net worth of $220 million, a slew of friends, and endorsement deals galore. Are people saying none of this matters if Aniston isn’t with Pitt—or married in general? It’s beyond frustrating our culture at large still has trouble seeing single women as content—that professional accomplishments play second-fiddle to the white-picket fence ideal, even in 2019. Aniston’s said, on multiple occasions, that she’s fulfilled with her life, and yet here she is: fighting the spinster persona tabloids gave her at 36 years old. She’s now 50. It’s been nearly 15 years.

Brad Pitt isn’t “the one who got away.” He’s someone Aniston was married to for five years and divorced. People split. It happens. Life moves on—and so has Aniston. It’s time we do too.

Brad Pitt Showed Up to Jennifer Aniston's 50th Birthday Party, and Twitter Freaked Out

If there’s anyone who deserves to throw a hell of a 50th birthday party, it’s Jennifer Aniston: She’s a huge star, defined cool American style—and she’s put up with years of straight-up rude headlines, whether they were Brangelina adjacent or asking once again when she’d have kids (she’s happily child-free). Aniston, of course, also happened to be married to Pitt from 2000 to 2005, and it’s something people kind of can’t let go of. Two years after Brangelina split in 2016, Aniston broke up with husband Justin Theroux last February, which has sparked all sorts of “rekindling the romance” headlines. All this to say, she puts up with a lot as she lives her life—and nothing says “50 will be my best year yet” like a headline-making West Hollywood hotel rager.

It was reportedly an actual who’s who of a guest list: George and Amal Clooney, Gwyneth Paltrow, Kate Hudson, Katy Perry, Ellen DeGeneres, Demi Moore, Barbra Streisand, Jon Hamm, Laura Dern, Charlie Day, Orlando Bloom, Tom Ford, Diane Keaton, John Mayer, Keith Richards, Reese Witherspoon—basically everyone you’d want to invite to your iconic milestone celebration. I mean, everyone in Hollywood turned out. What we might not have expected, though, is that Brad would show up to it.

Pictures exist of Jen wearing a black jumpsuit (gotta love a good party jumpsuit), while Brad was reportedly doing his usual newsboy cap and long hair thing. The back of his head, the one true Pitt sighting captured from the night, can be viewed here. Here’s what else we know, which is not much: According to W, “He arrived in a black SUV and was dropped off at the front door of the hotel. Literally nothing else has been made public.”

Speaking as someone who’s happily, platonically friends—super-close friends, even—with her ex, it is entirely possible that two people who once dated can still see each other as people at the end of all of it and hang out. After all, hopefully you were dating them in part because they were a good, fun person. I personally think it’s very nice that he showed up!

Twitter, needless to say, had some thoughts.

There was outright GIF glee:

A lot of wishing for once was:

Some using their powers of clairvoyance way too early:

And some people pointing out the obvious, because it’s Hollywood, and everyone’s hot, and the dating pool is only so big:

Also there was this voice of reason, embodied by a purple heart as big as its soul:

Anyway, I hope Aniston wished for everyone to leave her alone about this this year as she blew out the candles. Happy birthday, you icon.

So About the Rumor That Charlize Theron and Brad Pitt Are Dating…

A rumor popped up last week that Charlize Theron and Brad Pitt, two of the hottest people on Earth, are dating. According to The Sun, the A-list actors were set up by Theron’s ex-fiancé Sean Penn and have been hanging out since December. Their potential union, though, is like staring into the literal sun. Seriously, Theron and Pitt’s combined beauty is just too much for us mere mortals to handle! Imagine walking down the street and seeing them hold hands. I’d lose control of my limbs! How would our minds even process such hotness joining forces?

Well, it looks like we don’t have to worry about this now. Both People magazine and Entertainment Tonight report the dating rumors between Theron and Pitt are false.

Per People, the two stars met while filming an ad for Breitling watches but they’ve never been romantically involved. “They did a shoot together six months ago,” a source tells the magazine. “They have not been out together recently, and were never dating. Reports of them being involved romantically are false.” This source also added The Sun‘s claim that Penn set up Theron and Pitt “couldn’t be more false.”

ET doubled down on this, too, with a source telling the outlet, “They are both very single at the moment so it’s no surprise people are talking romance. They truly would make a Hollywood power couple, but at this point, they’re friends.”

“Brad and Charlize have known each other for years and recently became even better friends after working together,” ET‘s source added, referring to the Breitling campaign. “They enjoy each other’s company and connect on many levels. Brad and Charlize have a lot of mutual friends and share their love of acting, but neither of them are ready for a serious relationship right now.”

Well, that settles things, I guess. Here’s the Breitling commercial both People and ET reference:

Theron and Penn split in June 2015. Meanwhile, the Internet broke in September 2016 when Pitt and Angelina Jolie confirmed they were divorcing after their decade-plus relationship. For now, at least, it appears Charlize Theron and Brad Pitt are both just single, hot friends.

Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt Are Reportedly Reconciling

PHOTO: ANDREW COWIE/AFP/Getty Images

It turns out that love might not be dead after all: Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt are reportedly reconciling, according to a Mail on Sunday exclusive. The report comes after early-August tabloid news that the entity formerly known as Brangelina had put their divorce on hold, making all of us start to believe once again.

The Mail‘s report is largely based on the singular testimony of Ian Halperin, a celebrity biographer and journalist whose major work to date was the New York Times bestseller Unmasked: The Final Years of Michael Jackson. He’s also releasing a documentary about the couple, Broken: The Incredible Story Of Brangelina, later this year. So take the following with a grain of salt, as the news hasn’t been confirmed by anyone on the record in either camp.

Now the good stuff. Apparently the couple saw each other face-to-face for the first time in 10 months in what was truly a cinematic rendezvous. According the Mail, they arrived separately but simultaneously in black limos outside a “modest” house in Beverly Hills. “Brad took the first step forward,” Halperin told the Mail. “Then they collapsed in each other’s arms.” (We can totally see this as a deleted scene in Mr. and Mrs. Smith.)

We know that Jolie hasn’t been happy in her newly single life, as she said candidly in an interview with the Telegraph published on Saturday. Apparently after they met outside of the house, they went inside to hash out “months of acrimony and mud-slinging” in the presence of a mediator. Halperin tells the Mail that that’s when they “decided to make a fresh start.”

“It was a ‘come to Jesus meeting’ that marked the beginning of a new phase in their relationship,” he added in the Mail article.

According to the article, the meeting was arranged by the negotiator handling their divorce—which, if their divorce was indeed put on hold, seems to be the next logical thing to do. The article draws comparisons to the tempestuously and publicly on-again, off-again relationship of Hollywood mega-stars Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton, which resulted in two marriages and two divorces for the couple.

The Mail reports that Brangelina have joked about ‘consciously re-coupling.’ However, Halperin says that the divorce might go ahead after all—Jolie, he says, feels like everything went wrong after they got married because the relationship shifted. And, Halperin adds, Pitt started drinking more, which was one of the reasons the couple was rumored to have divorced.

According to the Mail, which goes on to cite unnamed sources close to the couple, the couple will make several changes to move forward: less travel and moving away from individuals who have apparently had too much input into their relationship are two key ones. Both have also been making personal changes: Pitt has owned up to issues with pot and drinking in a much-publicized GQ article, and, according to the article, Jolie is seeing a “spiritual counselor.”

In any case, “they both view divorce as not the worst thing that can happen,” Halperin says in the Mail story. “It’s only a piece of paper and they feel once the divorce is done, they have a clean sheet and can start their lives anew.”

They might be able to, but we’ll still be over here picking up the pieces of our shattered hearts. Oh wait—

“Brad hasn’t got eyes for anyone else and nor has Angie,” Halperin added in the article.

Agh, there our hearts go again.
