Ariana Grande and Pete Davidson are officially engaged, which means a wedding is happening at some point. There have been no reports of immediate plans, but a theory about when Ariana and Pete will tie the knot is floating around the Internet. And it’s convincing.
In the past few days, several fans have taken to Twitter to explain why they believe Ariana and Pete will marry on August 4, 2018. Essentially, the date would be a way of honoring Pete’s late father, who died in the September 11, 2001, attacks in New York City and whose firefighter badge number was 8418. Both Ariana and Pete have “8418” tattoos — Ariana on her left ankle and Pete on his left forearm — so celebrating their wedding on 8/4/18 would certainly be a very poignant and meaningful gesture. Plus, August 4 is on a Saturday.
Neither Pete Davidson nor Ariana Grande has made any mention of wedding planning since confirming their engagement, in June. Whether or not their wedding actually takes place two weeks from now (!!), there’s a good chance the pair will honor Pete’s dad on August 4 in some way or another. Last weekend, the pair confirmed that the firefighter plays an important role in their relationship when Pete shared a photo of Ariana wearing his dad’s “8418” New York Fire Department pendant. When some people criticized Pete in his Instagram comments section for giving the chain to Ari, he replied, “For ur information that’s not just some girl, that’s my fiancé. She’s the greatest person I know. I gave it to her because she has my heart and that is the most precious thing I own. My dad would be so happy and love her so much.”
There are a few things happening in pop culture right now that don’t make any sense. Becca Kufrin booted perfect Wills Reid from The Bachelorette but kept Garrett Yrigoyen and his problematic Instagram posts. The Rugrats is receiving an unnecessary reboot. Taylor Swift’s “Look What You Made Me Do” video didn’t receive any major nominations at the 2018 MTV VMAs. Everything is out of sorts, which might explain why some people are having inexplicably irate reactions to the fact that Pete Davidson’s fiancée, Ariana Grande, is wearing his late father’s FDNY badge number around her neck.
A brief explainer for those who don’t follow everything Ariana Grande and Pete Davidson do: Davidson’s father was a firefighter who died during 9/11, and his badge number was 8418. Davidson eventually had that number tattooed on his arm (and, reportedly, Grande has it on her left ankle). He also has several FDNY pendants with that number inscribed, and he posted a photo of Grande wearing one of them to Instagram over the weekend. One commenter said it was “disrespectful” that Grande had on the pendant, writing to Davidson, “No girl should ever wear your dads [sic] chain.”
Davidson was quick to hit back, though. “For [your] information that’s not just some girl, that’s my fiancé [sic],” he wrote in response to the commenter. “She’s the greatest person I know. I gave it to her because she has my heart and that is the most precious thing I own. My dad would be so happy and love her so much.” Grande stood behind the SNL comedian, writing herself, “I love you more than anything.”

But the trolling didn’t stop there. Another commenter wrongfully assumed the pendant Grande’s wearing is the one Davidson also gave his ex-girlfriend, Cazzie David, which led to an entirely separate clap-back.
“It’s so ridiculous that he gave it to his ex and said the same thing…SMH,” the person wrote, to which Davidson replied, “Actually, I didn’t give that to my ex. Yes, she had one but it was a replica. I had a bunch of replicas made. My sister and grandpa also have one. The one that Ari has is the one my dad actually died in and the one he wore his entire career and the one I’ve worn for over 17 years. I’ve actually never taken it off other than for SNL or work. So it means a lot to me.”
Here’s the thing: There are a lot of topics people care about that I don’t (to name a few: football, kale, metal music, and hiking). Even still, though, I understand why people are invested in them. Football is an American institution, and kale is, like, a superfood or some shit. I can even get on board with why people enjoy hiking! I don’t, however, understand why people are so invested in what Davidson does with his late father’s 9/11 pendant. It’s pretty ridiculous he’s had to explain himself not just once but twice.
This isn’t coming from a place of celebrity naïveté, either. Obviously, Davidson is a public figure and should expect a decent amount of commentary about his life and choices. Is that OK? No, but it’s part of the world—and news cycle—we live in. I’m just having difficulty figuring out why people are latching onto this specific story. What Davidson went through with his father is beyond traumatic. Unless you’ve experienced something similar, it’s impossible to comprehend. If Grande wearing the pendant is helpful to Davidson in some way, which it clearly is, then why is that so egregious or terrible? Shouldn’t he be able to honor his father in whichever way he sees fit? And shouldn’t people (strangers, specifically) respect that?
More important, we’re focusing all our attention on this when we could be talking about the fact Ariana Grande saved pop music for the umpteenth time with “God Is a Woman.” It’s a bop. Stream it now, and let Pete Davidson do whatever he damn well pleases with this pendant.
Over the weekend, Pete Davidson took some serious beauty inspiration from his fiancée, Ariana Grande, and dyed his hair platinum blond.
The Saturday Night Live star and future Mr. Ariana Grande shared a photo to his Instagram feed on Sunday night (July 1) showing the back of a person’s head with bleached hair, with the caption “big time adolescence.” At first, it was unclear who the mystery head belonged to, but Davidson later shared another photo of himself that made it very clear that he did, in fact, follow in Ariana’s footsteps and go blond for summer.
Though Ariana is technically back to brunette, she sent shockwaves through the beauty world a few months ago when she showed off platinum blond strands in the images accompanying her upcoming album, Sweetener, so it’s not a huge stretch to wonder if Pete was inspired by her own beauty transformation.
In addition to changing up his hair color, Pete seems to be actively trying to up his style game.. He recently hiredQueer Eye‘s Tan France to help him with his wardrobe, so maybe his new look is a part of an even more major makeover that he’ll be rolling out in the next few months.
It seems like Pete and Ariana had a seriously busy — and beauty-filled — weekend. In addition to the hair-color update, the engaged couple also spent time at their local Sephora, hiding from the paparazzi in the Benefit] aisle. They also found time to decorate their new, $16 million apartment (which, it’s worth mentioning, has its own IMAX theater), and post cute photos and videos on each other’s Instagram Stories.

The AG on Davidson’s thumb: Welp, this one’s pretty straightforward: “AG” forms Grande’s initials.
The “8418” on Grande’s foot:E! Online clocked what appears to be the numbers “8418” tattooed on Grande’s lower left foot in July. Davidson’s father, Scott, was a firefighter who died in 9/11. His badge number? 8418.

“Reborn”:Us Weekly reports that on June 18, Davidson had the word “reborn” tattooed on his hand. A few days later, Grande posted to Instagram Stories holding one of her birthday presents, and guess what was on her hand? A “reborn” tattoo.
Well, here’s where we’re at, folks: Ariana Grande is now wearing sweatshirts with Pete Davidson’s face on them.
Oh, wait, let’s backtrack if you’ve been away from the Internet for the past few weeks: Grande and Davidson are engaged. They were only (reportedly) dating publicly for about a month before this happened. It’s been a whirlwind, to say the least, and Grande took things up a notch this week with her Davidson-inspired lewk.
Late Thursday night (June 28) Grande posted a selfie video of herself dancing to her own song “You’ll Never Know”. “This is what @dougmiddlebrook is blasting over the apartment songs #taste,” she captioned the video, in which she shimmies to the song while wearing a sweatshirt emblazoned with a photo of Davidson’s grinning face.

News of Grande and Davidson’s engagement set the Internet ablaze on June 11. The couple seemingly first met in March 2016, when Grade performed on Saturday Night Live, but they didn’t reportedly get together until May 2018. Davidson confirmed his engagement to Grande last week. “I feel like I won a contest,” he said. “[It’s] so sick.
Grande posted this not-so-subtle shout-out to her husband-to-be around the same time she uploaded an even less subtle photo to her Instagram grid. The black-and-white shot, which Grande flipped almost completely upside down before posting, is a close-up of her and Davidson smiling while mid-kiss. It’s garnered more than 1.9 million likes in just its first few hours online. Though the “No Tears Left to Cry” singer didn’t write anything in the caption, Davidson commented, “our love is beautiful.”
Ariana Grande‘s birthday is today (June 26), but she appeared to celebrate it last night with a fun dinner featuring no less than 2,000 cakes. OK, that might be an exaggeration, but there were a ton of cakes. And cupcakes! All with childhood Ariana’s face on them.
It’s unclear who, if anyone, ate these cakes—I definitely would’ve if I was there—but Ariana’s friends in attendance sure did Instagram about them multiple times throughout the evening. In fact, most of the #ArianaGrandeBirthday content on the Internet right now is of these cakes. Were these magic cakes? Why were people so enamored by them? Thankfully, though, Ariana’s party featured more than just cake pics. It also included a healthy dose of restaurant dancing, which was shared to social media too. The singalong to the Spice Girls’ seminal classic “Wannabe” just feels right.
And, of course, Grande’s confirmed (!!!) fiancé Pete Davidson got in on the action. He’s been posting up a storm about Grande but wrote three things in particular for her birthday. Two were Instagram posts: “Happy birthday to the most precious angel on earth! you’re my favorite person that ever existed 🙂 i love you sm,” he wrote for one. “One more for the queen. words can’t express what a real fucking treasure this one is,” he posted in the other. The last was just a comment he wrote on one of Grande’s photos: “OMG HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!!!”
