Lady Gaga Calls Bradley Cooper a ‘True Friend’ After Their Viral Oscars Performance


Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper‘s performance of “Shallow” at the 2019 Oscars currently has the Internet buzzing. It was a gorgeous rendition, yes, but people seem more interested in what’s going on between Cooper and Gaga offstage. The speculation that these two are more than friends is out of control—and problematic. As we pointed out yesterday, Gaga and Cooper were tasked with developing enough chemistry to sell A Star Is Born, so of course their performance at the Oscars had sparks. They’re actors.

Neither of them has directly addressed these rumors, but Gaga did call Cooper a “true friend” on Twitter late Monday night, February 25. “Nothing could be more special than sharing this moment at the Oscars with a true friend and artistic genius,” she wrote alongside a photo of herself and Cooper singing at the Oscars. Lady Gaga and her “Shallow” cowriters Mark Ronson, Anthony Rossomando, and Andrew Wyatt won the Oscar for Best Original Song. In her emotional speech, Gaga thanked her sister and Cooper before opening up about her own showbiz journey. “I’ve worked hard for a long time, and it’s not about winning. It’s about is not giving up. If you have a dream, fight for it. There’s a discipline for passion,” she said. “And it’s not about how many times you get rejected or you fall down or you’re beaten up. It’s about how many times you stand up and are brave and you keep on going.”

In the Oscars press room, Gaga revealed what Cooper said to her right before they hit the stage to sing “Shallow.” “One of the hardest things in life is to be brave enough to be yourself. I wish to everyone that is going to that celebration to feel a joy inside of them,” Gaga said, recalling Cooper’s words. “That’s actually what Bradley said to me yesterday, right before we did our last rehearsal for this performance of ‘Shallow,’ He said, ‘Let’s just drop a little bit of joy.’ And I said, ‘OK.’ And turns out, joy did a whole lot for me.”

Lady Gaga's Oscars Beauty Look Included a $26 Mascara


Lady Gaga‘s red carpet season for A Star Is Born has been nothing less than iconic. From her glamorous boat arrival at the Venice Film Festival to her lilac hair at the Golden Globes, the singer/actress—and her glam team—have been serving look after look after look.

Of course, her makeup at last night’s Academy Awards was no exception. It was timeless, classic, and all about those lashes. “Her makeup was all about being soft, fresh, and young. We didn’t want anything to distract from this special moment,” her makeup artist Sarah Tanno said of the look created with products from Marc Jacobs Beauty. For her eyes, Tanno used Eye-Conic Multi-Finish Eyeshadow Palette in Steel(etto) ($49) for light definition. To line, she used the soft grey Fineliner Ultra-Skinny Gel Eye Crayon Eyeliner in Steel(etto) ($24). And then, the pièce de résistance: Velvet Noir Major Volume Mascara ($26) over the Velvet Lash Primer ($26).

That mascara certainly did its job. It not only stayed put through Gaga’s incredible live performance of “Shallow” with her A Star Is Born co-star and director, Bradley Cooper, it also withstood her emotional acceptance speech for Best Original Song. “If you have a dream, fight for it. I’ve worked hard for a long time, and it’s not about winning,” she said, while radiating on stage. “It’s about how many times you stand up and are brave and keep on going.”

Gaga’s dramatic eye makeup was balanced with a soft, nude lip and glowing skin. For her lips, Tanno applied the creamy nude Le Marc Lip Crème Lipstick in Slow Burn ($30), tapping it on so you could still see the natural texture of her lips. On her skin, she used Shameless Youthful-Look 24-H Foundation SPF 25 ($46), along with the new Accomplice Concealer & Touch-Up Stick in Medium 33 and 36 ($32), which launches in April. Finally, she set the look with another soon-to-launch product, Accomplice Instant Blurring Beauty Powder in Muse ($32), which, according to Tanno, makes skin look airbrushed in photos.

It was almost as if the Oscars camera crew knew we needed a close-up on Gaga’s makeup, so they gave it to us during the “Shallow” performance. Well done by all.

Here's What Taylor Swift Wore to the Oscars 2019 After Parties


The Oscars closed out an eventful awards season, and all eyes were on the red carpet for some last bit of glamour. Many anticipated it would be a big one not just because of what celebrities would wear, but because of who might walk it. Really, fans were waiting to see if this would mark Taylor Swift and Joe Alwyn’s big public debut. Fans knew she was in L.A., having just performed at an engagement party over the weekend, and that she had been supporting her boyfriend while on his press tour for The Favourite. But come Oscars night, Swift decided to forego the main event and its red carpet, and instead chose to show off her outfit on her own terms—on social media.

Alwyn arrived at the Oscars alongside The Favourite co-star Nicholas Hoult, but Swift joined him later on at the after parties. On Instagram, she posted a picture of herself laying on a spiral staircase, wearing a strapless, knee-length dress with iridescent fringe, on her way to the legendary Vanity Fair event. (Because who needs the step-and-repeat?)

Her stylist, Joseph Cassell, reposted the image with the credits her fans had been waiting for. Swift’s dress was by Ralph & Russo. (The look appears to be custom, or at least a slight adaptation of the fringe column silhouettes that appeared on its Spring 2019 couture runway.) Her shoes were by Brian Atwood, and her jewelry was from Lorraine Schwartz.

This isn’t the first time Swift took a social-first approach to reveal her party outfit: She skipped the red carpet for the BAFTAs (and the Grammys altogether), but made sure to give fans a peek at the princess-worthy Stella McCartney gown she wore that night on her social feeds.

Ralph & Russo, meanwhile, had a busy evening: The British couture label also outfitted Adriana Lima, Selma Blair, Marisa Tomei, Kathryn Newton, and Leslie Mann for the 2019 Vanity Fair Oscars after party.

Now, we’re just waiting for the content Swift’s dress deserves: a Boomerang of her showing that fringe in action.

The Best Moments From the 2019 Oscars


There were many things different about the 2019 Oscars ceremony from past years. For one, there wasn’t a host—a divisive choice after Kevin Hart stepped down from the gig following the controversy around his past homophobic tweets. On the awards front, there weren’t a lot of clear front-runners, which meant most people watched the show not knowing what to expect.

But I’m relieved to say the academy pulled off the 2019 Oscars with only a few minor hiccups. All the Best Original Song performances were stunning; the speeches were poignant; and the fashion was next-level good. Also, Lady Gaga was there. What more could you ask for, really?

Below, check out the highlights from this year’s Oscars ceremony.

Adam Lambert and Queen’s opening performance. “We Will Rock You” and “We are the Champions” received sparkling treatments—and the audience was clearly very into it.

Amy Poehler, Maya Rudolph, and Tina Fey graced us with their presence. They were the first three celebrity presenters of the evening. Naturally, Twitter is already campaigning for them to host next year’s show.

Melissa McCarthy and Brian Tyree Henry presenting Best Costume Design in the most elaborate costumes. The commitment! The excellence!

The awards-presenter pairing of Helen Mirren and Jason Momoa. I didn’t know I needed this.

History was made in the behind-the-scenes categories. Hannah Beachler and Ruth E. Carter became the first Black women to win Best Production Design and Best Costume design, respectively.

Jennifer Hudson’s powerful performance of “I’ll Fight” from the documentary RBG. The tune was nominated for Best Original Song—and, if it’s even possible, Hudson outdid herself with this live performance. I’m still crying.

Bette Midler tackling “Where the Lost Things Go” from Mary Poppins Returns. Emily Blunt couldn’t attend tonight’s show, so Midler stepped in, beautifully, to belt this Best Original Song nominee.

Regina King’s moving acceptance speech for Best Supporting Actress. She won for If Beale Street Could Talk. “Mom, I love you so much,” King said, her mother tearing up in the audience. “Thank you for teaching me that God is always leaning, always has been leaning in my direction.”

Awkwafina and John Mulaney presenting Best Animated Short Film and Best Documentary Short. Um, why haven’t they gone on a joint comedy tour yet?

Period. End of Sentence. winning the Oscar for Best Documentary Short. “I can’t believe a film about menstruation just won an Oscar,” director Rayka Zehtabchi said.

Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper’s performance of “Shallow.” This really sent me off the deep end.

Gaga’s acceptance speech for Best Original Song. “If you have a dream fight for it,” Mother Monster said, holding back tears. (She won for “Shallow,” the flagship tune from her and Bradley Cooper’s movie A Star Is Born.) “I’ve worked hard for a long time, and it’s not about winning … It’s about how many times you stand up and are brave and keep on going.”

Barbra Streisand and Spike Lee’s friendship moment. Streisand introduced BlacKkKlansman and talked about all the things she and Lee have in common. They’re both from Brooklyn! And love hats! Lee was living for Streisand’s speech, too. And just like that an Internet “squad goal” was born.

Olivia Colman’s acceptance speech for Best Actress. Glenn Close was the favorite (pun intended) to win, so Colman was visibly shocked when her name was called. She cracked so many jokes throughout it, and literally ended her speech with, “Lady Gaga.” (Gaga was also nominated for Best Actress.) That’s the best way to wrap up a speech, in my opinion.

Oscars 2019: Everyone Can Relate to Olivia Colman's Best Actress Acceptance Speech


Best Actress is one of the most coveted titles to take home from the Academy Awards. And at the Oscars 2019, that honor went to Olivia Colman for her performance in The Favourite from a competitive group that included A Star Is Born‘s Lady Gaga and awards-season favorite Glenn Close of The Wife. Colman accepted her award with a speech that revealed how shocked she was to win the award—and the Internet is loving it.

Colman opened her acceptance speech for portraying Queen Anne of England with a stunned quote: “This is hilarious,” she said. In her brief but wide-ranging speech, she went on to thank many people (including: her husband, her children, and her costars) while repeating that she found her win quite “funny.”

The speech ranged from inspiring (“Any little girl who’s practicing her speech on the tele—you never know!”) to hysterical (“If I forget anybody, I’ll find you later and give you a massive snog”), all in a matter of minutes. Colman didn’t seem to expect her win, and it was a sight to behold. (You can view the entire speech on Twitter.)

And, in an iconic conclusion, she closed her speech by blowing a kiss to Lady Gaga in the front row.

The speech was off-the-cuff, shell-shocked, and incredibly charming. Naturally, the Internet had a lot to say about the “delightful” moment and the performance that earned it.

Some asked for more projects where Colman gives a speech, just because her surprised reaction to winning Best Actress felt so relatable.

Others loved that she gave a heartfelt call out to her fellow nominees, Lady Gaga in particular.

She may be an Academy Award winner, but make no mistake: under pressure, “Olivia Colman is all of us.”

Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper Perform 'Shallow' at the Oscars 2019


Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper took the stage at the 2019 Oscars on Sunday night, February 24, to perform their hit song “Shallow” from A Star Is Born—and they didn’t disappoint. The powerful tune, which took home the Oscar for Best Original Song, became an instant hit last fall, reaching the the top five on Billboard‘s Hot 100. It’s without a doubt a standout track in A Star Is Born—and that’s saying something, given the sheer amount of great music moments in the movie.

Tonight’s performance was another incredible moment. Gaga and Cooper kept this performance of “Shallow” simple. They let their incredible vocals do the talking, with Gaga adding some dramatic accents on the piano. The “AHHHAHHHAHHHAH” is still so killer.

Twitter is, obviously, living for Gaga and Cooper’s sweet rendition:

“Shallow” has had quite the awards season run, winning multiple Grammys as well as the Golden Globe for Best Original Song. During her one of her acceptance speeches for “Shallow” at the Grammys, Lady Gaga made an important statement about mental health.

“I’m so proud to be a part of a movie that addresses mental health issues,” she said. “They’re so important. And a lot of artists deal with that, and we’ve got to take care of each other. So if you see somebody that’s hurting, don’t look away. And if you’re hurting, even though it might be hard, try to find that bravery within yourself to dive deep and go tell somebody and take them up in your head with you.”

Several celebrities have covered “Shallow” since A Star Is Born came out in October, including Kate Hudson, Nick Jonas, and, most notably, Kelly Clarkson. Her rendition of the song basically broke the Internet two weeks ago. “This chick is amazing,” Clarkson said about Gaga before performing her cover. “We’re really different, but at the same time, we’re really similar in the fact that she just loves music, and that’s why she’s doing what she’s doing.”

Last week, news broke Gaga and talent agent Christian Carino broke up after two years of dating—and just a few months after announcing their engagement. “It just didn’t work out. Relationships sometimes end,” a representative for Gaga told People magazine. “There’s no long, dramatic story.”
