The Headlines About Meghan Markle's Pregnancy Are Getting Out of Control

I think we’ve hit rock-bottom with the Meghan Markle pregnancy coverage, thanks to a new story that suggests the Duchess of Sussex’s “bendy thumbs” indicate she could go into early labor. There’s science behind this, apparently, but does that even matter? We now live in a world where the shape of Markle’s fingers are headline-worthy.

And here I thought it was weird that everyone saw Princess Charlotte’s face in her knee. (Remember that one? The media doesn’t discriminate when talking about Meghan Markle’s limbs, it seems.)

There are even more strange pregnancy stories where this came from. Let these five serve as a reminder to (1) stop talking about women’s bodies and (2) let Meghan Markle smile and wave and look iconic in peace. It’s what’s right.

People are really out here measuring how high up Markle’s bump is on her stomach. Think of all the things they could be doing instead. A non-exhaustive list: watching You on Netflix, baking blueberry muffins, looking into ways to cure the global water crisis. That brain power is better served elsewhere.

The word frenzy is only appropriate on two occasions, in my opinion: If Beyoncé announces she’s running for president, and if and when Olive Garden starts a drive-through service.

If you watch the video in question for yourself, you’ll see that Markle just breathes. She literally took a breath, and people acted like her baby did a dramatic reading of Stassi Schroeder’s book Next Level Basic from inside the womb.

Who knew Meghan Markle’s trolls were also geometry experts?

Groundbreaking news: Pregnant women can wear high heels! And they can work too. We really need to stop freaking out whenever moms-to-be exert physical energy.

Meghan Markle's Mom Has the Cutest Nickname for Her Duchess Daughter

Most everyone’s parents bequeath their kids with nicknames that make absolutely no sense, yet convey some sort of affection. Last week, for example, we learned that Kylie Jenner calls her daughter Stormi “Noodle.”

Meghan Markle, Duchess of Sussex, can relate. Her mother also has a few nicknames for her that range from the rather logical to the questionably associative, and thanks to some lite Internet archaeology from British newspaper The Express, who put someone with a lot of patience in charge of excavating the web archives of Markle’s former blog, The Tig, we now know what they are.

On August 4, 2016, Markle marked her birthday on the blog with an interview…with herself. She answered some questions in the section of the blog called “Tig Talk,” a Q&A usually reserved for celebrities.

“My nickname is Meg, MM, M&M, and Flower (which my mum has called me since I was little),” Markle wrote, reports The Express.

As far as mother-bestowed nicknames go, “Flower” is definitely a cute one—but we have to say, it’s nothing compared to what Prince Charles reportedly calls his daughter-in-law. He definitely wins the most creative Meghan-Markle-nickname award, with his casual address of “Tungsten” to the duchess. Yep, he calls Meghan “Tungsten,” which—if you remember the horrors of your high school chemistry class—appears on the periodic table under the symbol “W.” Apparently it’s a testament to the fact that she’s “strong and unbending.”

“Flower,” “Tungsten,” “M&M”—she’ll always be Meghan to us.

Here's How Meghan Markle's Staff Actually Feels About Her

A few months ago, several rumors hit the Internet alleging Meghan Markle‘s staff finds her “difficult” and demanding. Apparently, the Duchess of Sussex’s “up and at ‘em west coast energy”—which includes sending emails at 5 A.M.—has baffled employees on more than one occasion. Can you imagine your boss sending emails? The nerve! The horror! But for real: When did enthusiasm at work become a bad thing?

According to a new report from ELLE, the answer is “never.” A well-connected royals source tells the magazine that stories about Markle rubbing royal staffers the wrong way are complete rubbish. In fact, the duchess is reportedly well-liked by the people she works with, and they’re excited by her fresh perspective.

Not only that, but Markle is “anxious” to learn about royal protocol and takes her new gig within the royal sphere seriously. According to ELLE‘s source, she’s also been receptive to the people on the inside helping her adjust. This sounds more realistic than royal staffers ducking for cover every time Markle sends a G-chat.

Oh, and as for those rumors about Markle and Kate Middleton feuding? The source tells ELLE they’re not true, either. “The stories of the two duchesses having a major ongoing feud are just overblown,” the source said. “They have enormous respect for each other and are both devoted to representing Her Majesty in the humanitarian and charitable work they do.”

There you have it, folks. Meghan Markle is just a grown woman trying to do her job and live her life as best as she can. There’s literally nothing to see here. No feuds. No demands. No nothing.

Meghan Markle's Best Maternity Fashion Moments

As we entered 2018, it felt like the buzz around Meghan Markle‘s royal style couldn’t get any louder. That is, until Kensington Palace made the announcement: The Duchess of Sussex is expecting her first child, due in spring 2019. Even before that, though, rumors surrounding her pregnancy were intensified precisely because of her fashion choices. (People started speculating about the coat Markle wore to Princess Eugenie’s wedding and whether it was meant to hide a baby bump.) Now, all eyes are on her approach to official maternity fashion—and whether it’ll be as “rule-breaking” as her regular wardrobe.

Like Kate Middleton before her, Markle has adopted an approach to maternity dressing that’s true to her personality—and incredibly polished. Since the news broke in October, the Duchess has stepped out wearing everything from simple ASOS sheath dresses to bespoke Givenchy. All the while, she’s kept true to her personal style signatures such as delicate stacking rings, sequined halter tops and slitted skirts.

The next several months are, presumably, set to be a parade of inspiring maternity looks courtesy of the Duchess of Sussex, so we’ll be rounding up up her best outfits until Baby Sussex makes its grand entrance. Check out our favorites, ahead.

Meghan Markle's Security Is So Intense It Reportedly Annoyed Kendall Jenner

Everyone wants to meet Meghan Markle. You want to meet her. I want to meet her. My sister—who barely pays attention to pop-culture and may not even recognize her—wants to meet her. So I’m not exactly surprised Kendall Jenner and Rita Ora were reportedly keen on having an “audience” (a.k.a meeting) with Markle when they were all in the same building last Monday (December 10) at the Fashion Awards in London. No one was is immune to the Duchess of Sussex’s charm—not even a Kardashian-Jenner, apparently.

I can totally picture how a meeting with Kendall Jenner and Meghan Markle would go, by the way. Jenner would look tall and gorgeous and say something like, “My sisters and I are all obsessed with you.” Markle would then smile and giggle, while touching her baby bump, and say, “Thank you! Buy this cookbook!” (Dialogue courtesy of my imagination.)

Unfortunately, a meeting like this—or any meeting, for that matter—didn’t happen. According to TMZ, security around Markle was so tight at the Fashion Awards that no one could get close enough to say hello. The outlet reports Royalty Protection officers employed something called “Royal Movement,” meaning that whenever Markle was walking, all stairs and hallways in the venue had to be empty. Imagine being so iconic that guards clear out a stairway just because you want to walk to the vending machine and grab a Fanta—or, in Markle’s case, probably mineral water or something equally as fancy.

Jenner, Ora, and Victoria and David Beckham were among the stars reportedly “up in arms” about Markle’s security. Who knows if that’s true, but I’d 100 percent understand if they were bummed about not scoring a chat with Markle. I mean, imagine if Ora met Markle, slipped her a copy of her new album Phoenix, and she loved it? Hello, chart domination! What a missed opportunity.

In all sincerity, though, Markle should stream Phoenix. It’s full of bops. Better luck next time, guys.
