The Spice Girls Are Making Another Movie, and All 5 Have Signed On

Spice World might be one of the most unsung classics of the late ’90s. The beloved Spice Girls’ musical comedy had pretty much everything: a wild plot, a Meatloaf cameo, an inexplicable scene involving UFOs, a little Gucci dress, and of, course, that iconic bus. Now it looks we could see the bus throttling through London again, because there’s reportedly another Spice Girls film in the works—only this time, it’s going to be animated.

The Hollywood Reporter confirmed this week that Paramount Animation is bringing back girl power in a big way. The studio is in the early development stages of an animated Spice Girls feature, which is slated to drop in 2020. The best part? Unlike some of their recent reunion tours, all five women—Melanie Brown (Scary), Emma Bunton (Baby), Geri Halliwell (Ginger), Melanie Chisholm (Sporty), and Victoria Beckham (Posh)—are going to have a role in the new production. The film is also going to include the band’s manager Simon Fuller, who is a producer, and Karen McCullah, who wrote the screenplay for the original Spice World.

Paramount Animation president Mireille Soria didn’t reveal too many specifics, but she told THR that the Spice Girls “had an idea that we’ve been developing” and that “they are very involved.” If you remember, Spice World was based on “an idea” by the Spice Girls and Fuller, so this second film is clearly off to a good start.

Rumors about an animated movie began swirling in early 2019, and Variety previously reported that the script might involve a superhero plot in which there would be a “‘girl power’ unique to that group member that reflects each girl’s personality.” It’s unclear if that’s still the plan, but THR does say that the flick is going to include some new Spice Girls songs, as well as all the classics. Maybe this will finally give us a chance to get that “Spice Up Your Life” lyric right….

Making Your Jeans Blue Takes a Lot of Water. This New Process Could Change That.

You’ve read the headlines about how polluting fashion is, how brands have been guilty of greenwashing products in their marketing, and how shoppers are demanding sustainability more than ever. It’s not just newcomers building conscious businesses, being vocal, and advocating for change in the industry. More and more, we’re seeing heritage brands course-correct, investing their resources and know-how into real innovation. The latest contribution comes from one of the most well-known American denim companies, and it’s addressing one of the most contaminating steps that goes into making a pair of jeans.

Wrangler decided to tackle indigo dyeing—“because it has the most significant visual and ecological impact on the planet,” Roian Atwood, the brand’s Senior Director of Sustainability, tells Glamour in Valencia, Spain, during a visit to the factories that are producing its new collection. (Disclosure: Wrangler paid for my travel and accommodations for the purpose of reporting this story.) “When you see a blue river ecosystem, there’s no way morally, ethically, and from a good corporate citizenship standpoint that that is okay.” Documentaries like 2016’s RiverBlue and 2018’s Fashion’s Dirty Secrets have brought attention to the issue of water waste and contamination as a direct result of clothing manufacturing at a global level. Still, when something as popular and enduring as denim requires thousands of gallons of water just to dye it its signature blue, you need more than awareness to address the problem.

“The reality is that, if we can cut it off at the source, if we can create a technology that has no waste water and that minimizes the water consumption, we’ve solved for a really big industry issue,” Atwood says. That’s what two years of research, testing, and collaboration between the iconic Americana brand, Texas Tech University, Gaston Systems, and the Spain-based fabric manufacturer Tejidos Royo hopes to be bringing to the table.

Wrangler is introducing Indigood, which it bills as its most sustainable denim to date and the first ever to use a foam dyeing technology. According to the brand, it uses 90 percent less chemicals and 60 percent less energy than the traditional dyeing method, and it creates zero water waste.

Priyanka Chopra and Mindy Kaling Are Making a Movie Together, and Fans Are Losing It

Dream team Mindy Kaling and Priyanka Chopra are officially making a movie together—and it’s safe to say that fans are already getting hyped for it. Deadline announced that the as-yet-untitled comedy will take place in both America and India and “revolves around a big wedding in India and the ensuing culture clashes.” And the two aren’t only doing the behind-the-scenes producing, either—they’re reportedly both starring in it as well.

As Deadline reported on Friday morning, it was being called “Crazy Rich Asians meets My Big Fat Greek Wedding” as rights to it were being auctioned off. (Apparently more than a few big studios were trying to get in on it, too: Legendary, Sony, Netflix and Amazon Studios were all contenders, with Universal coming out the victor in the bid.)

Even more excitingly, Kaling and Dan Goor (co-creator of Brooklyn Nine-Nine) will be writing the script—and Kaling might even direct the movie.

Both Kaling and Chopra expressed their excitement about working together on their social media channels. “PROUD,” Chopra captioned a photo of the herself, Kaling, and Goor on Instagram. “My dream team is making a movie. Can’t wait for this one!????????? @priyankachopra #DanGoor @universalpictures,” Kaling wrote.

The actresses shared the good news on Twitter as well, where Chopra added, “Two women with a passion for telling good stories, just got the green light to THEIR story THEIR way. So proud of this incredible partnership with @mindykaling and @djgoor! We are about to show you what it means to be modern, global, and Indian. See you at the cinema!”

Fans were obviously excited to hear that Chopra and Kaling are pairing up—not only is it important for representation, but as Chopra mentioned, it’s a project that they get to do their way.

Lilly Singh, who will soon be the first South Asian woman to host a network late night show, simply wrote “DAMNNNNN ❤️❤️❤️.” Another fan tweeted, “I’m so grateful that you have single handedly brought so many Desi people to our screens in the last ten years or so! Even though I don’t know you, it makes me so happy to see your success, I feel like a didi?.”

Sophie Turner Addresses Kit Harington Making More Money Than Her for 'Game of Thrones'

Sophie Turner and Kit Harington have been co-stars for, it’s safe to say, a while now: Game of Thrones‘ eighth and final season is premiering on April 14, and although we have so many questions about what’s to come on the hit show, there’s a 0% chance we’re going to be getting any satisfactory answers until each episode unfolds. (However, you can bet that this hasn’t stopped fans from coming up with plenty of theories about what’s going to happen.) There’s one thing that can be cleared up, though, and that’s the matter of why Turner, who plays Sansa Stark, and Harington, who plays Jon Snow, aren’t getting paid the same for the work they do on the show.

In an industry where there are headline-making gender pay gaps—remember when Michelle Williams reportedly got paid less than $1,000 while Mark Wahlberg got $1.5 million for a movie reshoot?—discrepancies like this are beginning to receive extra scrutiny. Turner was recently asked by
Harper’s Bazaar UK
about her views on the difference between her and Harington’s paychecks for the show. Asking for equal pay on set, she told the magazine, is “a little tricky. Kit got more money than me, but he had a bigger storyline. And for the last series, he had something crazy like 70 night shoots, and I didn’t have that many. I was like, ‘You know what… you keep that money.'”

As The Hollywood Reporter wrote in 2014 about negotiations for the show’s seventh season, the cast—among the highest-paid on cable TV—is divided into tiers to determine compensation: Tier A includes the main roles, played by actors including Harington, Lena Headey (Cersei Lannister), and Emilia Clarke (Daenerys Targaryen). Tier B includes Turner and Maisie Williams (Arya Stark); and there’s another tier beyond that’s filled by actors with smaller roles.

But Turner’s still been able to wield her influence to advance equality behind the scenes: As she told Harper’s Bazaar UK, she has an inclusion rider in her contract, which stipulates that the male/female ratio of a project’s workforce is an even 50-50. And when there’s so much work to be done in the industry, every step forward counts.

16 Handbag Brands Making the New It Bags of 2019

They say actions speak louder than words but we think a logo bag speaks louder than that. It’s an instant conversation starter, which is part of its eternal appeal. Interlocking Chanel Cs scream elegance, bold faced white Supreme text against a red backdrop announces coolness, and a gold letter D dangling from a saddle bag makes people wonder if you’re an influencer. But not all of us want a loud (and often expensive) logo on display.

Luckily, even though Logomania is still riding strong, the absolute opposite is also just as in. If anything the most popular It-bags of 2019 haven’t the slightest indication of the designer at all (save for maybe the shape or beading) and are from up-and-comers like by Far or Susan Alexandra.

With spring rapidly approaching, chances are in the coming weeks you’ll have less pockets to put things in and will need a bag to throw everything into. So instead of turning to the classic designer options, consider these 16 handbag brands making logo-free investment bags instead.

Kate Beckinsale and Pete Davidson Are Now Making Out in Public

Ever since they reportedly left a Golden Globes party together back in January, rumors have been rampant that Kate Beckinsale and Pete Davidson are dating. While neither has spoken outright about whether or not they’re together, the pair was caught holding hands exiting a Los Angeles comedy club a few weeks back. Also, Beckinsale hilariously shut down a social media troll who was “disappointed” in her dating choices.

After spending a weekend out and about in New York City, there’s no doubt Beckinsale and Davidson have a lot of affection for each other, at the very least. Cameras captured them walking around, holding hands, and with their arms around each other.

Of course, that doesn’t necessarily prove anything, but they also showed off some serious PDA at a New York Rangers hockey game. Behold, a public kiss:

The (maybe) couple seems super happy to be spending time together. People reports that Beckinsale joined Davidson for this week’s Saturday Night Live after party. At a recent event celebrating her new DuJour magazine cover, Beckinsale was asked to describe her ideal man. “Funny. I like funny,” she told Extra. The actress also has a wicked sense of humor—just look at her Instagram feed—so that’s not a shocker.

She’s also known for a well-placed comment—like when she responded to a troll who said, “Dear Heavens Kate, not Pete Davidson” with “No, that’s my mother. Easy mistake.” (This happened underneath a photo of Beckinsale’s mom, but the commenter chose to ignore that and just make a dig at her rumored relationship with Davidson.)

Davidson hasn’t spoken publicly about Beckinsale, but given the way his relationship with Ariana Grande played out, there’s a good chance she’ll make it into his stand-up routines or an SNL appearance.

The couple does, however, has his ex’s approval—if they even care. When asked by a TMZ cameraman how she feels about Davidson and Beckinsale dating, Grande said, “So cute!”
