The Best Beach Bags for Summer 2019 (and Long After)

Last year, basket bags were all the rage. It gave us a free pass to carry our beloved straw totes off the beach and long after summer ended. In fact, they’ve become the “it” carry-all, spotted on the runway and at Fashion Week regardless of their seasonality. Their appeal is obvious: They fit all the essentials, plus sunblock, plus a disposable camera, plus a book (or two, if you can’t pick what to read next). They can even double as a carry-on when you’re traveling somewhere warm. (Seriously, I went on a beach vacation earlier this year, and all I could do was ogle at everyone’s beach bags.) But more importantly, they’re the finishing touch that make a summer outfit feel just a bit more #OOTD. You could also look beyond the classic tote and consider a minimal belt bag or printed crossbody to bring with you on all your summertime adventures. Keep scrolling for some of our favorite beach-friendly styles to wear now (and long after Labor Day).

Eyelash Extensions: How Long They Last, How Much They Cost, and More

A consultation will also help you determine what material you want (most common are silk and faux mink; silk is bit more shiny and pops more, whereas mink is most fluttery and natural), length, curl type (J is the slightest curve, but ends up looking longer, and C and D are the most flipped up), and how many lashes should be applied. A great lash artist will also mix lengths to give lashes a naturally wispy vibe, Shirai says. “At Blinkbar we use a minimum of four different lengths for every style we offer.”

Stay away from cluster lashes

If your lashes are sparse, some salons may suggest 3D lashes, or clusters, which are three hairs glued together to give your eyes a more voluminous look. Avoid them—they’ll only weigh down your lashes and lead to breakage. “You should always have one extension applied to one natural lash, there should be no visible glue, and the extensions should not be touching your lid in any way,” Shirai says. Basically, if they look like falsies, they’ll be way too heavy.

They WILL feel weird at first

It takes a day or two to get used to the feeling of wearing extensions, but I found them to be much more comfortable than strip lashes. They’ll also mess with the way you normally sleep (unless you’re already a back sleeper). “If you sleep on your side and stomach you’re going to crush them and they won’t last as long,” Shin says. “Try using a travel pillow or something that helps to elevate and keep you on your back.”

You might need to adjust your skin care routine…

The general rule of thumb is to avoid anything too oily. I love nothing more than rich face oils, but had to give them up while I had extensions. And if you’re going to apply eye cream, Shin recommends using it in the morning instead of at night so it doesn’t travel into your lashes (skip greasy ones that are packed with mineral oil, Shirai says). Stick to non-oily makeup removers as well: Shin recommends using micellar water with a cotton swab to remove makeup around your eyes (cotton pad fibers will stick to your lashes), whereas Shirai prefers pre-soaked, oil-free makeup removing pads.

…And the way you do your makeup

While there are some “extension-safe mascaras” out there, Shin recommends avoiding mascara completely. You just splurged on lashes—don’t jeopardize them! Also stay away from waterproof eye makeup—the removal will take a toll on your eyes and can soften the glue. Shin also recommends avoiding loose powder or glittery eye shadows, which can build up on the roots of your lashes, eventually weakening them and leading to breakage. And if you’re devoted to liner (though you may find you no longer want it), stick to gel and liquid formulas that won’t tug at your roots.

You’ll have to re-learn how to wash your face

There is nothing as jarring as leaning into a sink, washing your face, and accidentally bumping your extensions. It feels incredibly strange and I’ve lost more than a few lashes this way (RIP lashes!). Here’s the technique that worked for me: Get as low as possible to the sink—I basically stick my head into the bowl—and gently splash water on the bottom of your face and forehead. Then, carefully suds up the lower half of your face and forehead, rinsing it clean by lightly dabbing and doing a light, outward pulling motion. After that, I use my ring fingers to wet around my eyes with any leftover cleanser, following with water. No scrubbing.

And give your eyes extra attention

This is gross, but because you’re not washing your eye area as thoroughly as usual, you can and will get residue buildup, particularly at the lash line. “Even if you don’t put eye makeup on, there’s still outside impurities and dust [that can get trapped], ” Shin says. “I mix distilled water with a little bit of tear-free baby shampoo and use the mixture to thoroughly clean my top lids and the bottom of my eyes.”

Like your hair, lashes need to be brushed

My lashes would get a little wacky when I woke up or after showering. That’s why Shin ends every appointment by handing you a soft pink spoolie and demonstrating how to comb your lashes daily. Here’s how she does it: Looking down, support underneath your lashes with your pointer finger. Then, gently twirl the spoolie on the top side of your lashes (the opposite of how you’d apply mascara; brushing that way will tug at the hair). “It takes five seconds out of your day and it goes a long way,” Shin says.

Never—ever!—pick at them

The only way to remove eyelashes is with a pro—seriously. You’ll end up tearing out or breaking your lashes if you try it yourself, and it’s not worth it. “That doesn’t mean you have to remove them, you can also just wear them until they all cycle off,” Shirai says. Typically they last around three to four weeks, but don’t be surprised if you find yourself back for refills before then. I told you, they’re addicting.

Surprise: Bachelor in Paradise's Joe Amabile and Kendall Long Are Back Together

Caution: Spoilers for Bachelor in Paradise ahead.

It’s been a whirlwind 48 hours for Bachelor in Paradise fans, especially those who shipped Grocery Store Joe Amabile and Taxidermy Kendall Long. The once-solid couple had one of the more frustrating breakups this season, after Kendall told Joe on Monday’s episode that she didn’t know what kind of love she felt for him. Both left in tears, and all of Twitter went into full-fledged #TeamJoe mode:

But surprise! At the Bachelor in Paradise finale, Joe and Kendall revealed they’re back together. If that wasn’t enough, Chris Harrison invited a stunned Joe to compete on this season’s Dancing with the Stars, and he said yes. Talk about your life doing a 180 before your eyes.

“I had no idea that was coming! No idea. I still don’t know what’s going on,” Joe told Glamour after the finale. “I’m freaking out in my head. I don’t regret saying yes, [but] I don’t know how I’m going to do. It’s going to be interesting.”

As for Kendall, she can’t wait to see Joe out of his element. “I am so freaking excited to see Joe dance, because Joe hates dancing! Hates it. If you get a couple drinks in him he’ll dance a little bit, but he isn’t a dancer. So this is great. I’m excited for him to learn, [see] this new version of him, and grow with him.”

It’s a far cry from where the couple ended things in Mexico back in late June. “I feel like [the break-up] kind of happened for a reason, because we learned so much about each other,” Kendall says. “We had to almost be thrown in to everything in order to discover if this was actually something we wanted to work on.”

For his part, Joe thought there was no chance he’d get back together with Kendall when he left Paradise. “I thought it was over,” he tells us. “And I thought it was over because she was scared…and after that, that was it for me.” While Joe says he didn’t doubt that Kendall did care for him, he says that looking back “she was just scared because I’m the opposite of what she’s had or ever thought she’d have.”

And now? “I’m very happy,” Kendall says. “It was a really long road to get to where I am now, but overall I feel like it’s positive and everything turned out for the best. Once I got over the fear of everything I was just able to enjoy [the relationship].”

Kendall—who lives in Los Angeles—is excited to welcome Joe to her city while he competes on DWTS, but isn’t so sure she’d be willing to move to his hometown of Chicago once Joe completes his run on the show. “I think it would make more sense for Joe to move to Los Angeles as opposed to me moving to Chicago, but I do love Chicago. I just wouldn’t go there during the winter!”

Joe on the other hand, is only thinking about surviving his DWTS debut and this newfound fame. “I’m getting used to it,” he says. “It’s fun, it’s different. I don’t hate it.” He pauses. “I mean, I get nervous, but I think that’s normal. My life just majorly changed tonight.”

Chrissy Teigen Has a Very Long, Hilarious History of Trolling John Legend

Chrissy Teigen is the queen of the Twitter clap-back, but her finest work might be her John Legend trolls. Teigen is a pro at throwing all kinds of shade at her singer husband, from innocent to the most savage. Her comments are widely-reported on, and Twitter lives for every time Teigen dishes out a (harmless) jab. It’s pretty obvious that Legend has a sense of humor about it, too; I wouldn’t be surprised if these two laugh at how big of a deal the Internet makes their social media interactions.

Teigen’s disses date back to 2012, and they’ve been steady and life-giving since then. Below, a quick-and-dirty timeline of her funny quips, in chronological order.

These six cheeky posts are great table-setters.

Her Twitter trolling dates back years ago, too. Take this tweet from August 2014, for example, about sending nudes.

Or this one about her fool-proof plan for making sure Legend doesn’t marry anyone else.

This Teigen tweet about Legend’s 2014 Grammy nominations was seriously A+.

And so are these three posts, where the shade is low-key but still great.

Things, of course, escalated from there. Trolling tweets also involving One Direction quickly popped up.

There was this joke Teigen made shortly after giving birth to her first child, Luna.

Not to mention back-and-forth shade sessions.

And subtle shut-downs.

Also, political jabs.

There’ve been some straight-up savage moments.

But mostly just shut-downs.

In “retaliation” of Legend dancing with a woman at one of his concerts, Teigen asked a complete stranger to get a lower-back tattoo with her—ya know, as one does.

The tattoo incident may also explain this tweet.

It was honestly epic when Teigen roasted Legend in September 2017 for not answering her calls during an earthquake.

The next month, Legend serenaded Teigen with a singing post, but she shut him down because he apparently didn’t answer her FaceTime.

And then, there was last November, when Legend uploaded a photo of Teigen for her birthday but she was having none of it. “How about a hi-res,” she wrote in the comments in reference to the fact the photo Legend picked was LQ. A few weeks later, news that Legend would be playing Jesus in Jesus Christ Superstar was too good for Teigen to ignore. (Her tweets about the actual broadcast were just as great.)

In early 2018, Teigen grilled Legend for using her phone chargers, and social media went nuts.

She also shaded him about SpongeBob Squarepants, naturally.

Later that spring, after she and Legend welcomed their baby, Miles, Teigen used Twitter as a platform for some (innocent) husband-bashing.

Not long after, she shaded him for not having as many Instagram followers as her.

Teigen’s Father’s Day tribute to Legend was three parts sweet, one part salty.

There have been more Arthur jokes, obviously.

Seriously. So many.

We leave you with this tweet from March 2018, which sums up Teigen’s history of trolling Legend better than words can.
