Watch Sophie Turner Realize the Game of Thrones Ending Was Hidden in a Season 1 Poster


Last week we wrote about a Game of Thrones poster from season one that basically revealed the ending of the show hidden in plain sight. That secret spoiler made its way to Sophie Turner in a recent interview, and she was understandably shook that she didn’t catch it either.

In the promo image from about eight years ago, you can see Ned Stark brooding on the Iron Throne. The picture was resurfaced by Twitter user @thommybell, who noticed there’s a clue buried deep in the photo. If you look closely, you can see a raven sitting next to Ned—a dead giveaway that his son Bran Stark, a.k.a. The Three-Eyed Raven, ends up as the leader of the Seven Kingdoms. No one noticed the tiny detail, and most people were amazed once it was pointed out—including Turner.

While doing promo for her new movie Dark Phoenix, Metro U.K. asked Turner if there had been any foreshadowing that fans missed when it came to her character Sansa Stark’s storyline. Turner said the only hint was in the first episode, when Sansa tells her mother, “I want to be queen, Mommy, someday.” That’s when her Dark Phoenix costar Jessica Chastain pointed out the whole poster spoiler.

“You know the poster for the first season—you know what’s on it?” Chastain says in the video. “So it’s your papa on the throne, and there’s a raven on the throne, right to his right.”

Naturally, Turner’s reaction was absolutely priceless.

Turner has been answering tons of questions about Game of Thrones on this press junket. Just a few days ago, Sky News asked her if she ever saw herself reprising her role as Sansa. Her answer will break your heart, though it’s understandable in a way: “I think it’s time to say goodbye to Sansa,” she told the outlet.

“I’m ready-ish to say goodbye to her. I think my watch has ended. I just think it’s been 10 years of my life and the best 10 years of my life by far, and I finished in a very happy place with Sansa and it’s time to let her go.”

All the Hidden Meanings in Sansa’s ‘Game of Thrones’ Finale Dress


This post is dark and full of spoilers. You have been warned.

There’s only one thing fans can agree on when it comes to the Game of Thrones series finale: Sansa Stark is a queen. I mean that both literally and metaphorically: Not only did she become queen of the North after the region separated from the other six kingdoms, but she ascended her throne in a very badass dress. A dress that, unsurprisingly, was covered in hidden meanings.

We’ve long known that an outfit or hairstyle on Game of Thrones is never simply just for aesthetics. Whether it’s a sigil’s placement on a coat or a distinct dress pattern, the costume design and hair and makeup often the first place the showrunners and costume designer Michele Clapton will embed details about the characters’ development. Their outfits tell as much a story about who they are—and who they’ve become—as their actions. And no one has demonstrated that more than Sansa.

“I think you can see that she is influenced throughout her journey until she finally comes into her own style in season seven,” Clapton told Glamour before the season eight premiere. “The look is a culmination of her difficult story. The ‘Little Bird’ initially copied the style of Cersei, when she first arrives in Kings Landing. She then retreats to the cut of her mother’s costume, a refuge, showing how she feels, wounded and scared, but she can’t speak it…. She tells of her pain through embroidery and color.”

The show’s finale—and Sansa’s coronation outfit—then represent the strength and power she now represents. Take a close look at both of these GIFs, below. Notice the small details in Sansa’s sleeves and the wolf stole around her neck. All of these shades have deep, special meanings—and some of them might surprise you.

Let’s start with those aforementioned sleeves, which are printed with leaves from the Weirwood trees in Winterfell. These trees are grown only in the North, so naturally Sansa would reference them somewhere on her dress.

The sleeves are also covered in fish scales, a subtle nod to the House of Tully (her mom Catelyn Stark’s house). If you recall, Sansa’s mother was killed during the Red Wedding, so her representing House of Tully at her coronation is a nice full-circle gesture to her mother’s legacy.

Sansa’s breast plate is also adorned in tree branches—yet another nod to the Weirwood forest. Refinery 29 points out that the branches on this piece of armor are a good omen: The North is strong and resilient but, above all, peaceful. That’s refreshing.

The wolf stole, as you probably know, is the House of Stark’s token, so it’s no surprise we see it on this finale look. Sansa’s crown is essentially in the shape of a wolf too. Talk about some family pride.

The Hidden Message in Sansa Stark's Hairstyle During the 'Game of Thrones' Finale

Listen, I’m one of the many people with a lot of notes on the Game of Thrones finale—well, and the past two seasons, really. But one thing this show has almost always gotten right is the hairstyles and that remained true through the last moments of HBO’s epic series.

Over the course of eight seasons, the incredible stylists on the show have woven hidden meanings into the hairstyles of characters like Cersei and Daenerys. Perhaps the character who had one of the most dramatic character arcs on the show is Sansa Stark, and the changes she underwent were often reflected in her hair.

Sansa’s hair often reflected the women she was emulating during certain moments of her life, from her mother Catelyn’s simple, yet beautiful braids to the more elaborate styles worn by Cersei during the early seasons in King’s Landing. “Sansa’s hair is constantly reflecting the people she’s learning from, or mimicking, or inspired by at the time,” Sophie Turner explained to Refinery29 in 2017. “When she’s Cersei’s prisoner, and she’s kind of absorbing all her manipulative techniques, it’s reflected in her hairstyle, and when she’s finding the spirit of Margaery in herself, she wears her hair like Margaery.”

But tonight, Sansa stood up for herself and her kingdom by refusing to bend the knee to her brother, Bran, and securing freedom for the North with her as the queen. In the closing moments of the show, we see Sansa make her way through the lords of Winterfell to be crowned and her hair is noticeably down—simple and without braids.

She is no longer modeling herself after others. Instead she has truly come into her own as Sansa Stark, the Queen in the North.

It’s a truly memorable moment for a character who has grown from a petulant child to a true leader, after suffering as much as almost any character on a show filled with agonizing pain. Fans on social media were equally moved.

“She never wears her hair down. Sansa has always used her hair to look like the people she’s trying to emulate, as well as trying to communicate non-verbally,” one fan tweeted. “By wearing her hair down, I feel like she’s showing that she’s her own person and she can speak for herself now.”

All hail the Queen in the North—long may she reign.

Every Hidden Detail in ‘Game of Thrones’ Season 8, Episode 5


Caution: This post is full of Game of Thrones spoilers.

The second-to-last episode of Game of Thrones left many fans reeling, not just because we get only one more week with our favorite characters. Last night several significant characters lost their lives: Varys, the Hound, Jaime and Cersei Lannister, Euron Greyjoy, and the Mountain. And though she didn’t die, Daenerys Targaryen seems to have lost her damn mind.

With so much going on, you might have missed the more subtle Easter eggs and other details that were in the episode. (Did you pick up, for example, that Dany was almost poisoned?) Below, all the hidden gems spotted by eagle-eyed fans.

Yes, that really was Aaron Rodgers.

The Green Bay Packers quarterback made a very quick appearance in Game of Thrones episode five. Too bad he couldn’t outrun dragon fire.

Bran’s vision came true.

Way back in season two, a young Bran had a vision of a dragon flying over King’s Landing. In last night’s episode, his vision finally comes to fruition in the darkest way possible.

Dany’s vision came true too.

Remember Daenerys’ vision while she was spending time in the House of the Undying? Everyone thought it was a destroyed Red Keep being covered in snow, “A Song of Ice and Fire” coming to life, but it seems to have foreshadowed a snow of ashes instead. Her dream of a destroyed Red Keep may have come true, and it may even foreshadow her own death next week

The map crumbling has to symbolize something.

In two different scenes in last night’s episode, characters are seen standing on the large painted map of the seven kingdoms inside King’s Landing. First, it’s Arya and the Hound. Then it’s Jaime and Cersei Lannister. Many believe this symbolizes the crumbling of the seven kingdoms.

The Hound’s final words to Arya echo what he said to Sansa.

Oh, you thought the Hound was a bad guy? The Hound echoed his famous “Look at me” line to Arya last night, the very same way he told Sansa to look at him way back in season one. If only Sansa had listened to him then.

Something’s up with Jon’s and Arya’s paths.

Throughout Game of Thrones‘ run, the costume designers have been throwing fans little hints about what’s to come. Last night, in case you missed it, Jon and Arya have matching hairstyles and clothing. They even have matching experiences. When Arya is nearly crushed to death by a fleeing mob in King’s Landing, it’s an identical event to Jon’s own near-death experience at the Battle of the Bastards. Coincidence? We think not.

Only one more episode to go to see how this really all plays out. We can’t wait.

The Hidden Message Behind Arya and Jon's Hairstyles on Game of Thrones Last Night


This post contains spoilers for the final season of Game of Thrones. Consider yourself warned.

From the very first episode of Game of Thrones, Arya Stark and Jon Snow have shared a special bond. Granted, we now know they aren’t actually half-siblings, but that doesn’t lessen the relationship between the two. Back then, it was Jon who recognized and nurtured Arya’s skills as a fighter, even gifting her with her first sword, Needle, before he left to join the Night’s Watch.

When Arya and Jon finally reunited in season eight, it was emotional. In last night’s penultimate episode, fans noticed the two seemed more in sync than ever—and that they both resembled Ned Stark, the man who raised them. From their hairstyles to their battle armor, they’ve never so explicitly Team Stark. Does this hint that together (perhaps with Sansa, as well), they will unite to take down Daenerys?

The half-up/half-down hairstyle was a Ned signature—and now Arya and Jon are both wearing theirs in a similar fashion.

They were also dressed similarly, to the point that some viewers found it confusing. “They really made Arya look like Jon in episode 5; same hair, clothes, shots from behind are made to look like either,” one user wrote on Twitter. “The two Northerners who care for the innocent.”

“The only people that did their jobs this season are the costume designers. Did anyone else notice that Arya and Jon have had the same clothes/hair style this season?” wrote another.

So what could this mean? Well, a few things. At face value, it’s absolutely an homage to Ned Stark, an honorable man who means the world to both Jon and Arya. It’s also a physical symbol that these two are cut from the same cloth. But the implications are deeper, as well. Jon and Arya looking similar could mean they’re destined for the same fate as Ned. “You know what would be pretty killer? If we continue with the
‘cyclical’ theme of #GameofThrones, and the final scene is the beheading of Jon Snow by a mad tyrant with Sansa and Arya being witness to it (à la Ned Stark in S1),” one fan posited—which would be devastating but actually does make sense.

We won’t know anything for sure until the Game of Thrones series finale this Sunday, but one thing is certain: Nothing is coincidence on this show. Jon and Arya’s likeminded aesthetics this season are 100 percent intentional. If their fate at the end is the same, let’s just hope it’s a positive one.

All the Hidden References on Taylor Swift's New Magazine Cover


Taylor Swift appears on the latest cover of Entertainment Weekly, and a lot of the accompanying interview revolves around her habit of dropping hidden clues and messages for fans about her new music. Given the topic, it shouldn’t come as a surprise that the singer used her appearance on the cover to give even more hints about TS7.

The main source of speculation is Swift’s jacket on the cover, which is covered with tons of different buttons and pins. The text on the magazine reads, “Each of Taylor’s buttons is an Easter egg! Go to page 26 to decode them.” Naturally, Swifties are taking a serious magnifying glass to each button and offering their theories about what they mean.

Here’s what they’ve come up with so far:

1. Selena Gomez.

Some fans think this could mean an upcoming collaboration.

2. Her pet cats.

Swift has three cats, and they all seem to be pictured on the jacket.

3. The Dixie Chicks.

Another potential collab? Or a tour guest?

4. Game of Thrones characters.

Yep, those are the Stark sisters. Another pin is dedicated to Danerys Targaryn. Maybe she just really loves the show, or maybe the characters represent something deeper.

5. Drake.

Some people think this might be a collaboration, or a signal that Swift could release a double album like the Toronto rapper.

6. Grey’s Anatomy favorites.

Meredith Grey and Cristina Yang are in there, along with a heart that says “My Person.” That’s led some Twitter users to think there might be a song on TS7 named after the famous Grey’s Anatomy line. Also, keep in mind one of Swift’s cats is named after Meredith Grey.

7. The cast of Friends.

Swift loves the show.

8. Faith Hill.

In addition to the Dixie Chicks, there’s a Faith Hill nod. Maybe she’s planning a major country collab or drawing inspiration from the Mississippi singer.

9. Troye Sivan.

Fans are crossing their fingers that this means Sivan could be joining Swift on tour.

10. “Track 5.”

Swifties have a running joke that “Track 5” on her albums is always the most personal. This might be a clue she’s planning something special for the new album’s fifth song.

11. Law & Order.

A button that reads “Dun Dun” might be a direct reference to the popular Law & Order intro noise.

12. Mister Rogers.

One Twitter user thinks this might actually be a clever callback to Swift’s birthplace in Pennsylvania.

13. “I Tried” on a tombstone.

Swift said the album gets emotional. Some fans believe a tombstone with a flower that says “I tried” represents the record’s more intense moments.

14. Cats The Musical.

Swift is appearing in the film adaption of this popular show, due out this holiday season.

15. “Calm.”

Swift yells, “Je suis calme!” during her video for “ME!”

16. “Awesome.”

This word plays an important role on Swift’s song “ME!”

17. A rainbow heart.

Rainbows are a major part of Swift’s new aesthetic.

18. Seven pastel hearts.

Obviously, this symbolizes her seven albums.
