H&M x Giambattista Valli: Every Single Look in the Designer Collaboration


H&M announced its latest designer collaboration—with Italian couturier Giambattista Valli—in a somewhat unprecedented fashion: by having Kendall Jenner wear one of the pieces from its collection to the Cannes Film Festival in May. The model gave us a taste of what we could expect from the highly anticipated collection (bold colors, feminine details, tons of tulle) then, but now H&M is letting everyone start planning their shopping strategy for November 7 by unleashing the full lookbook.

Giambattista Valli x H&M spans womens wear, menswear, and accessories. And the couture-inspired pieces run the gamut, from ruffled blouses and tiered gowns to logo hoodies and beanies. The prices are equally varied, ranging from $17.99 to $649, according to Vogue. As these releases usually go, the collection will be made available at select H&M stores globally and on the retailer’s website starting today, November 7—and it’s already going fast.

H&M x Giambattista Valli Is Happening—And Way Sooner Than You Think


H&M’s designer collaborations are one of the most anticipated events on the fashion calendar. The Swedish retailer will normally announce the chosen partner—past ones include Isabel Marant, Alexander Wang, Balmain, and Moschino—in the spring, then shoppers have to wait until November to shop the limited-edition pieces. But H&M is doing things a little bit differently this year, allowing people to buy a piece of the collection a mere 48 hours after the big announcement. And oh, is it big.

H&M’s designer collaboration for 2019 is with the Italian-born, Paris-based couturier Giambattista Valli. You’ve definitely seen his work on the red carpet—and on your favorite celebrities.

He’s best known for his tulle ballgowns, as worn by superstars from Rihanna (that iconic pink tiered Grammys dress) to Kacey Musgraves (for her very first Oscars earlier this year).

Like the retailer’s other designer collaborations, Giambattista Valli x H&M will drop in full in November—on the 7th, if you want to mark your calendars, online and in select stores worldwide. But on Saturday, May 25 (as in two days from now), H&M will release a selection of nine items from the collection for fans to purchase.

Most details about the collection are still under wraps. What we do know: It’ll be a mix of accessories and apparel. According to Vogue, prices start at $17.99 and go up to $649. The tag line for the collection? “Creative, cool, and couture-like.”

In a preview video for the collaboration, H&M teased a few elements from Giambattista Valli’s DNA shoppers can look forward to seeing in this capsule: colorful fabrics, full skirts, and playful embellished details. And per Vogue, a handful of celebrities—including H.E.R. and Kendall Jenner—will be wearing the pieces at the Cannes Film Festival.

“We called this project Project Love,” Valli told Vogue. “The thing that makes me most happy in life is if I can make someone happy. It’s beautiful if I can do that for a wider group of Valli girls and Valli boys.” (This marks the designer’s first menswear offering.)

In an Effort to Be More Transparent, H&M Is Adding Information About Where Its Products Are Made Online


Next time you shop at H&M, make sure to read the fine print. The Swedish retailer announced a new online feature that will allow customers to be more informed about where their purchases came from.

H&M is introducing what it calls a “transparency layer” to the product descriptions on its website. It provides additional information about where its merchandise, from clothing to home goods, were made—like “production country, supplier names, factory names and addresses, as well as the number of workers in the factories,” according to a press release. If you’re shopping at an H&M store, you’ll be able to access this information through the retailer’s app: Scan the tag on the item you’re looking at, and it’ll show you all those details. Though it’s not yet available on every single one of its products, the feature is rolling out this week.

“We want to show the world that this is possible,” Isak Roth, head of sustainability at H&M, said in a statement. “By being open and transparent about where our products are made we hope to set the bar for our industry and encourage customers to make more sustainable choices. With transparency comes responsibility, making transparency such an important factor to help create a more sustainable fashion industry.”

An early version of this “transparency layer” was introduced on H&M’s Conscious Exclusive collection, its sustainable line, in 2017, per the AFP. According to Inc., H&M now joins brands like Nike, Adidas, Levi’s, Patagonia, and Timberland in being more transparent about their supplier lists with consumers.

H&M x Moschino: Every Single Piece in the Collection


H&M‘s annual designer collaboration is always incredibly anticipated. Over the years, the Swedish fast-fashion giant has brought limited-edition, more-affordable capsules from major brands like Alexander Wang, Balmain, and Erdem to the masses. In November, it’s Jeremy Scott‘s turn, creating a collection dubbed MOSCHINO [tv] H&M. And we finally got a look at the 60-plus womenswear pieces he designed.

“Whenever I design, I think about my friends,” Jeremy Scott, creative director of Moschino, said in a statement. “The MOSCHINO [tv] H&M lookbook is like a party; celebrating the fun, the pop, the creativity and the energy of the people and the collection.” The campaign images were shot by Marcus Mam and styled by Carlyne Cerf de Dudzeele—both frequent collaborators of the designer’s. Modeling the collaboration are Amiaya from season 10 of RuPaul’s Drag Race, Bria Vinaite, Barbie Ferreira, Dilone, Scott’s assistant and head of public relations at Moschino, among other very cool folks.

MOSCHINO [tv] H&M includes womenswear, menswear, and—in an H&M designer collaboration first—dog clothing. Ann-Sofie Johansson, H&M’s creative advisor, said of the full assortment: “This is a loud and proud collection for everyone to share in the fun, no matter who you are or where you are from.”

H&M Is Changing Its Sizing—Here's What That Means for You


H&M shoppers, take note: The fast-fashion brand is making a slight tweak to its sizing chart—and it could affect the way you shop more than you think.

“H&M in the USA will be updating their sizing structure for ladies’ customer starting with new summer and fall 2018 products,” a spokesperson for the brand confirmed to Glamour. “We always want to listen to our customers and their feedback,” the spokesperson continued. “The new sizing will be more in line with the North American sizing standard and the retail landscape of the market.”

With the new sizing chart, customers should expect to go one numerical size down than what they’re used to shopping for at H&M. (If you normally wear a size 8 at the retailer, for instance, you’d now try a size 6.) In-store, the brand is making these changes clear to shoppers by hanging tags on certain items that break down its new sizes; per Racked, they read, “You’ve asked, we’ve listened! We’re changing our sizing. Try on this item to find your size.” In the U.S., H&M new full size range is from 0 through 26.

This development was first reported earlier this month in the U.K., where an H&M spokesperson announced that the brand was “taking the steps to change our womenswear measurements to be in line with [standard] UK sizing,” according to the BBC. For months prior, customers voiced their frustration at how they felt H&M’s sizing appeared inconsistent with—and skewed smaller than—other retailers. This adjustment would seemingly address U.K. shoppers’ concerns. The Swedish company planned to extend the sizing-down change to other markets, Racked reports, including the U.S., Mexico, and Canada—an exercise that began with its popular Divided line, which is available in XS through XL, a few months ago, and now applies to its numeric labels.

The takeaway: It’s time to get reacquainted with your H&M fit. And when it doubt, read the fine print on the brand’s return policy.
