H&M Launches a Collection for Pride Month

In 2018, fashion brands aren’t shy about voicing their values—and putting their money where their mouths (and their marketing campaigns) are. H&M is the latest to show its support for Pride Month, which starts on June 1, and the LGBTQ+ community with the launch of its latest collection.

On May 31, H&M’s online shop and select brick-and-mortar locations will carry an apparel and accessories collection tied to Pride, which will include brightly-colored tees, sequin shorts, and slogan sweatshirts—all priced under$50. A percentage of proceeds from the collection will benefit the United Nations Free & Equal, the UN’s official campaign against the criminalization of LGBTQ+ folk worldwide. “H&M believes in everybody’s right to love who they want,” H&M’s head of Menswear Design, Andreas Lowenstam, said in a statement. “We hope people can use H&M’s Pride collection to celebrate their belief in equal love.” The brand’s celebration of Pride Month doesn’t stop at clothing: It’s also collaborating with OUT magazine on a special campaign, titled “Pride OUT Loud,” to kick off the collection’s launch. It features LGBTQ+ figures like Olympian Gus Kenworthy, singer Kim Petras, and artist-activist Gabrielle Richardson.

As a model and founder of Art Hoe Collective—a gallery curated on Instagram for queer creatives of color—Richardson has a strong tie to the collection’s message of global love and inclusiveness. “I just want to let people know that they exist and they’re not alone,” she tells Glamour about her appearance in the campaign.

For Richardson, it’s the collection’s message tees (with words like “Equality” and “Pride,” which she wears in her campaign shot) that are central to supporting LGBTQ+ folks through fashion: “People want to start a conversation, people want to start a dialogue. When you have something like a shirt that says ‘equality,’ people see it and they have an immediate visceral reaction. If anything, that will help facilitate these important conversations. [When] it’s something as universal as a shirt, it can really set the fire. It can really start the conversation.”

Part of acceptance also comes from having the support of far-reaching, recognizable brands like H&M. “Recognition is strength,” Richardson says. Through this type of global campaign, she can reach queer folk who perhaps haven’t seen themselves represented in this type of imagery before. “I think the amazing thing about big brands like H&M that are so accessible, that are so big, is that it can reach so many people all over the world, all over the country,” she explains, “and places where a little queer kid didn’t think there was anyone else like them. [Those kids] can see their reflection through someone else who has gone through the same things as them and has a very similar narrative that they didn’t really completely understand before.”

Then, there’s the expectation-defying component of appearing in a Pride campaign alongside four other creatives: Richardson says this campaign shatters assumptions of what “queerness” looks like by featuring a diverse group of models, including herself. “I think it’s important for people when they see me in this campaign, they realize that [queerness] can look like anyone,” Richardson tells us. “Queerness can be a black girl who’s just wearing jeans and a t-shirt.”

“I just think it’s important for you to stand strong for who you are and let people know what you’re about as soon as they see you,” Richardson says. When H&M’s Pride Collection becomes available to shop on May 31, people of all identities can do just that.

H&M is Introducing a Modest Fashion Line for Spring

H&M is joining brands like Nike, American Eagle, and Macy’s and introducing its own collection catering to the modest shopper.

Launching exclusively online on May 3 (with a second drop slated for May 24), LTD Collection is H&M’s first designed expressly with modest fashion in mind. The line is heavy on embroidered, flowy pieces such as coordinating tunic-and-trouser sets and kaftan dresses with shimmery details, all with long sleeves and hems.

Pernilla Wohlfahrt, Head of Design at H&M, tells Glamour that customer interest in modest dressing had increased in recent years, leading the brand to formally launch a collection dedicated to this consumer: “Today, H&M is present in 69 markets and we want to be diverse and inclusive to all the markets where we operate. We want to be able to offer something for everyone.”

LTD Collection is an exclusive collection for spring—hence, the name “limited.” Women’s apparel prices range from $59.99 to $129; accessories will run from $34.99 to $49.99.

Modest dressing isn’t entirely new territory for the company. Back in 2015, H&M introduced a campaign starring Mariah Idrissi, a Muslim woman wearing a hijab—a first for the brand, and a move that drew a lot of attention. Plus, “we have had modest options in the range in the past and decided for spring to bring together these items under one cohesive collection, for customers interested in modest fashion to easily find and shop these items,” Wohlfahrt adds.

LTD Collection “[isn’t] necessarily about building on a previous campaign, but more about offering a wide range of styles and choices to a global fashion community,” she says. “We have seen a growing interest in modest fashion in general for a long time, and wanted to create this collection as an option to our customers that are interested in modest dressing.”

While the line is certain to attract customers who dress modestly for all occasions, Wohlfahrt says that LTD Collection is a viable option for any shopper looking for pieces that fuse conservative silhouettes with H&M’s trend-driven aesthetic. “The intention with this collection is to offer fashion for everyone,” Wohlfahrt asserts, “no matter what their personal style.”

H&M x Moschino Is the Newest Designer Collab You're Definitely Going to Want in On

PSA: H&M is about to give us the designer collaboration of our dreams.

On Saturday, Moschino creative director Jeremy Scott announced that the storied fashion label was planning a collaboration with the highly popular Swedish retailer, due out online and in stores on November 8. According to Vogue, prices will range from $25 to $300. And there’s plenty to be had: The women’s collection will be around 45 pieces—plus a ton of accessories.

Scott, who made the surprise announcement at Moschino’s annual Coachella party, is widely known for his playful aesthetic that brings a distinguishable edge to the legendary Italian fashion house into his designs—primarily through his frequent incorporation of consumer icons like Barbie, My Little Pony, Hershey, and McDonald’s.

Here’s the first look at the upcoming collection—both Gigi Hadid (right) and Scott (left) are wearing pieces from it in this picture from the Moschino party.

“I am so excited about MOSCHINO [tv] H&M,” Scott said in a statement. “My life’s work has been to connect with people through fashion, and with this collaboration I’ll be able to reach more of my fans than I’ve ever had the ability to do.”

Here’s a glimpse of what showgoers typically see on a Scott runway—and backstage:

According to Scott, however, this is what we can expect from the H&M collaboration: “There’s a silver sequined parka dress,” Scott told Vogue. “Denim pieces are all twisted into something else. Puffers and jackets are reconfigured into cropped things or double-long things. There’s a sportswear-with-evening kind of feeling, like a hockey jersey with a train.”

Scott’s designs are bold and unconventional—and likely also the reason for the star-studded audiences at the Moschino runway shows, with famous faces like Paris Hilton, Cindy Crawford, and Katy Perry frequently in attendance.

“MOSCHINO [tv] H&M is the perfect collaboration for fashion right now, mixing together pop, street culture, logos and also glamour,” said H&M creative adviser Ann-Sofie Johansson in a statement. “Jeremy Scott is amazing—he knows how to have fun with fashion, and to connect with his fans around the world.”

“This collaboration makes me feel like I’m able to give something again,” Scott told Vogue. “Lots of young people love my clothes . . . and we make phone cases and little things like that, but in order to have a lewk, I love that this is now something that will be affordable.”

For 14 years, H&M has been producing highly-anticipated collections with various designers, beginning in 2004 with Karl Lagerfeld. Ever since, fashion fans have anticipated the news of H&M’s latest designer collaboration. With Scott’s name going hand-in-hand with statement-making creative work—plus the collab’s affordable prices—we can’t wait to see how this one turns out.

Revisit the world created by Ludwig Bemelmans’ iconic picture books by recreating Madeline‘s signature uniform, using H&M’s long-sleeved navy dress as the foundation: By adding a white rounded collar, knee-high white socks, Mary Jane shoes, and a yellow hat, you’ll fit right in with Bemelmans’ Parisiennes.

Gear up for the requisite viewing of It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown by dressing up as one of Peanuts‘ own. Though she prefers a dress in brighter shade of blue, the monochromatic navy style, with its puff sleeves, is reminiscent of Lucy’s go-to. Throw on some black-and-white brogues and grab a football before finding your Schroeder.

Raise your hand if you feel seen every time Tina Belcher speaks on Bob’s Burgers (or every time @tinatbh tweets, for that matter.) The eldest Belcher’s singular outfit is instantly recognizable, making it prime costume material. Find a light blue sweater in a similar shade to Tina’s T-shirt to wear over the long-sleeved navy dress (so that it looks like a skirt.) Pair them with striped socks and black high-tops and, of course, her oversized black frames.

Hayao Miyazaki’s Kiki’s Delivery Service is a favorite among anime fans—and if you’re looking to dress up as a teen witch who isn’t, well, Sabrina, consider the film’s titular character. (Extra points if you have a black cat that follows you everywhere, à la Jiji.) You already have the navy dress, so all you need are bright red accessories: flats, a headband, a bag… And, of course, a broom.

We can’t wait until Jodie Whittaker becomes the first-ever female Time Lord on Dr. Who later this holiday season—so, don’t mind us if we break out our Tardis gear a little earlier this year. The navy hue on the dress reminds us of the iconic blue phone booth—so much so, that only a handful of on-brand accessories (such as a BBC-sanctioned hat and navy-and-white checked slip-ons) are needed to fully transform it into the Doctor’s space ship.

There’ll be plenty of Wonder Women out and about this Halloween (yes!)—but why not switch things up with another incredibly female superhero? Supergirl (or Kara Zor-El) is another one of our go-to costumes not just because it’s badass, but because it’s so easy to put together: In lieu of a blue bodysuit, use the navy H&M dress as the base and add a red cape and knee-high boots to mimic the character’s uniform. Find Supergirl’s insignia to wear around your neck (or on a belt) to fend off any questions about who you’re dressed up as.

Here's Every Single Item From the H&M x Erdem Collaboration

Every H&M collaboration possesses the same few traits: a buzzy designer, a selection of limited-edition pieces that feel instantly collectible, a crazed launch, and a high probability of seeing the pieces pop up on the resale market at however-many-times the original price. From the looks of it, the fast-fashion retailer’s latest pair-up, with beloved British brand Erdem, will be no different. The collection, which launches November 2, has a total of 83 pieces spanning womenswear, menswear, and accessories, which riff off some of the prints and silhouettes designer Erdem Moralioglu has become known for at his namesake brand, including dreamy florals, elegant lace, high necks, and long sleeves. Prices start at $29.99 for accessories and cap out at $299 for some of the collections most intricate—and probably sought-after—pieces, such as the floral gowns and tailored coats.

Ahead, see every single item in H&M’s soon-to-be-sellout collaboration with Erdem. Start planning your fall shopping appropriately.

Gigi Hadid Wore $30 H&M Pants During Paris Fashion Week

There have been plenty of instances where a Gigi Hadid fashion moment has sent us straight to the nearest mall to try to cop her style. Every so often, though, the supermodel takes the guesswork out of the shopping experience by actually wearing a piece from one of our favorite affordable retailers—and, even more luckily, one that’s still in stock. That’s the case of the $30 H&M trousers she wore during Paris Fashion Week. Excuse us as we take out our credit cards.

Hadid was photographed in between appearances in Paris wearing a monochromatic look. She paired a gray sweatshirt with gray plaid pants and black studded mules. (Clearly, she’s been paying attention to the street-style trends from this season.) We’ve got the hoodie already—but should you be in the market for some sleek checked trousers for fall, head on over to H&M, where Hadid got her pair for a cool $29.99, according to a very exciting press release that just landed in our Inbox. Here’s the full look.

    PHOTO: Pierre Suu

H&M’s stovepipe pants come in four different shades, but Hadid opted for gray houndstooth. And by some sort of shopping miracle, they’re still available on the brand’s website in most sizes.

We can’t image that’ll last very long, though: It’s not every day that a Hadid sister wears an outfit we can actually shop for less than $30 (before the shipping that’s added when we immediately order it, anyway). So get on it, friends—before we buy out the remaining stock.
