Jennifer Aniston Is Sick People Saying 'You Look Great for Your Age'

Did you have to re-learn how to do your hair?

I did. I had to learn how to get a blow-dryer and do all that. My mom always used to sweetly blow dry my hair.

You recently said in an interview that you don’t want gray hair. Do you think there’s still a taboo around women in Hollywood going gray?

No, I think it’s personal choice. I don’t think there’s any taboo. I mean, I think if we create one [then there will be], because that’s what people like to do—create a narrative and a headline—but I think if people want to go gray, look, go gray. It’s just I don’t want to.

You’re traveling constantly. What city or country gives you the greatest beauty inspiration?

Paris. It’s absolutely stunning. I love everyone’s carefree, chic style. The women there usually wear their hair messy in a low bun, or they’ll be in a beautiful coat. And the architecture! The whole city is like a fairytale.

You’re stranded on a desert island. What are the three products you bring with you?

Aveeno sunscreen, a leave-in conditioner, and lip balm. I love Dr. Hauschka’s. And for conditioner, it’d want anything that’s nourishing. Shu Uemura has a good mask.

If there were one thing about beauty perceptions you could change, what would it be?

That beauty has a time clock. Beauty at any age is beautiful. I think we’re taking better care of ourselves these days. We’re learning more about our internal health, and that reflects itself on our outer health and beauty. I think the cliches of “oh my God, you look great for your age,” is kind of an old paradigm that doesn’t exist anymore.

You have $20 and free roam of a drugstore. What do you buy?

This is going back to my childhood, but I’d probably go to the magazine section, then over to the makeup and look through Revlon. I’d probably find some great blush. Then I’d go look at the nail polishes.

Is there a nail color you’re loving right now?

I go between pale natural pink to a deep Bordeaux in the winter.

Who are the women inspiring you the most right now?

That young woman Greta [Thunberg]. Just the strength and knowledge of that little person, and her fearlessness and fierceness to go and confront people that need to be confronted. She’s incredible. As for who else is inspiring me right now? Hmm. Women are inspiring me right now. F*ck, they all do.

Instagram Just Implemented a Great Policy About Diet Products

Instagram has been criticized for ages for its tolerance of pervasive (and, let’s face it, annoying) diet spon-con. If you don’t know what I’m talking about, go check one of the Kardashians’ profiles right now. Scroll down a bit, and chances are you’ll see an “#ad” for Flat Tummy Tea or another product that promises miracle weight loss. Actor Jameela Jamil is just one of the many people who have called out these ads for encouraging toxic diet culture. Earlier this year Jamil directly took Khloé Kardashian to task for promoting Flat Tummy Tea.

“It’s incredibly awful that this industry bullied you until you became this fixated on your appearance,” she wrote to the reality star in March. “That’s the media’s fault. But now please don’t put that back into the world, and hurt other girls, the way you have been hurt.”

It appears Instagram has taken notice of the issue. The social media platform has announced several new policies about spon-con and ads, calling out ones that revolve around weight loss, in particular. Under the new rules, users under 18 won’t be able to see posts promoting weight loss or cosmetic procedures with incentive to purchase product. Also, IG has nixed posts that make “miraculous claims” about a product. Translation: If an influencer insists she lost 10 pounds in 72 hours just by drinking a shake, that post is going down. And good riddance.

“We want Instagram to be a positive place for everyone that uses it, and this policy is part of our ongoing work to reduce the pressure that people can sometimes feel as a result of social media,” Emma Collins, a public policy manager at Instagram, said in a press release.

Jamil is, no surprise, thrilled about these changes. “It sets the tone that this is not okay in our society,” she told British Elle. “We have hyper-normalized flogging nonsense to young impressionable people. These people are selling hair-growth gummies but wearing extensions, or photoshopping themselves to look slimmer and selling a weight-loss shake. There are so many lies being told, and we’ve accepted that as a cultural norm.”

While social media still has considerable room for improvement, moves like this one are a step in the right direction.

In her cover interview with Glamour, Jamil clarified that her criticism of the Kardashians doesn’t mean she hates them. “I just want them to stop selling laxatives, and then I will get off that dick,” she said, laughing. “That’s all I’m trying to do. I’m not trying to attack anyone. But if you have a lot of power and influence and money, and you’re using yours irresponsibly, and other people aren’t aware that they’re being sold a lie, I’m gonna step on that dick.”

Serena Williams Wants Everyone to Know What a Great Friend Meghan Markle Is

Serena Williams and Meghan Markle are two of the most well-known women in the world. But, to each other, they’re just really good friends. Like, the kind of friends who will fly across the ocean to support each other in their big moments.

Williams, of course, was among the famous guests when Markle married Prince Harry on the world’s stage back in May 2018. And the Duchess of Sussex has very publicly showed up for her tennis star friend at Wimbledon and most recently, the U.S. Open finals in New York City.

The Duchess of Sussex made the solo trip—sans Harry and baby Archie—just ahead of ending her royal maternity leave, and Williams wants everyone to know how much it meant to her. “Meghan is amazing,” she told E! News at the fashion show for her S by Serena line. “She literally flew across the seas just to support for a few hours with a newborn baby.”

“She is the most positive, amazing human that I know,” Williams continued. “Everyone needs to know how amazing she is. I don’t know if I could have done that with my daughter at that age. But she did it. And that shows the kind of person that she is.”

Markle released a fashion line of her own this week in her official return from maternity leave. The “Smart Set” capsule collection benefits one of her royal patronages, Smart Works, with a one-to-one model. For every item purchased, that same item will be donated to the charity, which helps outfit women looking for jobs.

Female friendship and support playing out on the world’s stage? You love to see it. Now, would it be too much to ask to get some photos of a play date between Williams’s daughter, Olympia, and little Archie? Probably, but a girl can dream.

The Reason Why Sleeping Without Underwear Might Be a Great Idea

Generally there are two kinds of sleepers: pajama-wearers and naked-sleepers. Odds are, if you’re a pajama-wearer, you never sleep without underwear. You might not even think about why. But experts say sleeping without underwear can actually be a good thing for your vagina.

“You really should sleep without underwear if you’re prone to vaginal issues,” says Nancy Herta, M.D., an ob-gyn at Michigan State University, such as yeast infections, vaginismus and bacterial vaginosis). Why? Between discharge and sweat, your vagina is prone to moisture overnight, Dr. Herta explains. Underwear can trap that moisture, creating a breeding ground for the bad bacteria that cause those conditions.“Allowing that area to get some air helps to keep it dry and clean,” Dr. Herta says. Giving your vagina some breathing room lets it better take care of itself. Going underwear-free is an especially a good idea if you have a yeast infection right now or are very prone to them and get them often, says board-certified ob-gyn Pari Ghodsi, M.D.

If sleeping without underwear isn’t terribly appealing to you, Dr. Herta recommends that you switch to loose-fitting cotton underwear. Cotton can help absorb some of the moisture instead of keeping it right against you, like silk or lace would. Silk and lace can also irritate the skin around your vagina, Dr. Ghodsi says, so at the very least if you’ve been wearing silk or lace underwear all day it’s a good idea to switch out of them before you go to sleep. If you can’t imagine giving up your PJs, go commando under a pair of loose-fitting cotton pajama pants.

It’s worth noting that if you find you can’t sleep without wearing underwear but you’ve never had a problem, Dr. Ghodsi says you’re probably fine to keep doing what you’ve been doing. Sweet dreams.

A Hashtag in Honor of Meghan Markle's Royal Baby Is Raising Money for Great Causes

The countdown is on for the springtime arrival of Baby Sussex, a.k.a. Meghan Markle and Prince Harry‘s first child. And while fans of the royal couple have been clocking every detail—rumored or otherwise—about the royal baby, Markle’s chic maternity style, and her incredible baby shower in New York City, they’ve also organized themselves for a great cause.

The hashtag #GlobalSussexBabyShower has been started to help raise money for some of the royals’ favorite charities—and although we maybe didn’t make Amal Clooney and Serena Williams’ guest list for the NYC party, we’re all invited to this shower.

“Proof that social media can be a positive place,” royal reporter Omid Scobie tweeted. “Charities including @themayhew @Camfed and @WellChild have been receiving donations from Duchess Meghan fans around the world who started the hashtag #GlobalSussexBabyshower to celebrate Baby Sussex’s impending arrival. Very cool??”

The online love is especially nice considering the vitriol that Markle especially has faced in comments sections and on social media. The palace has even issued stronger guidelines for commenters on their own channels, likely in response to some of the online hate.

Jo Hale

“I’ve donated to two of the #DoS charities because I’m so sick of the media onslaught which is ignoring her philanthropy. It also gives me a pleasant break from the horrors of Brexit. @themayhew @One25Charity #GlobalSussexBabyShower #MeghanMarkle,” one fan tweeted.

I also donated to the little girl who received the flowers from Meghan’s baby shower,” wrote another fan. “Sending prayers to her and her family for healing. #GlobalSussexBabyShower.”

Others chose charities close to their own hearts to benefit from the #GlobalSussexBabyShower.

Or just by spreading the word.

The hashtag has been gaining traction as people around the world make donations in honor of the yet-to-be-born royal baby—and the organizations are already expressing their gratitude. The charity, CamFed or the Campaign for Female Education tweeted: “OK all you amazing, warm-hearted & generous people: You completely floored us today when you started sending your support & donations in response to @freepeeper’s #GlobalSussexBabyShower campaign. You’ve made our year! Now we need to get some sleep. ? Know that we ❤ you. X”

As Scobie pointed out, this is exactly the kind of goodness we need on a Sunday, no? Here’s to hoping this kind-hearted magic lingers a little longer.
