'The Devil Wears Prada' Is Getting a Sequel All About Emily, Thank God

Andy Sachs may have come out on top at the end of The Devil Wears Prada, but have you ever wondered what happened to the fashion-forward dreams of Miranda Priestly’s second assistant, Emily Charlton? Well, now is your chance to find out: A sequel book featuring Emily is on its way.

On Tuesday Entertainment Weekly published an exclusive sneak peek at the first chapter of the story. The plot revolves around Emily, who has apparently left Runway in the dust and Miranda to put her own damn coat in the closet. As Lauren Weisberger, author of The Devil Wears Prada, revealed, her forthcoming novel will be called When Life Gives You Lululemons and focuses on Emily’s life as a high-powered image consultant. For her next job, Emily must travel to Greenwich, Connecticut, to consult an A-lister with a DUI to overcome. Clearly, she’s got her work cut out for her.

From partying at Gigi Hadid’s house to working for a Justin Bieber–like pop star named Rizzo, the first chapter alone reads more like a Hollywood tell-all than a fictional novel. And that may be what makes this next chapter in The Devil Wears Prada series so much fun. At the very least, the new book will be the ultimate beach read when it hits bookstores on June 5, 2018.

Ask Emily: How to Date as a Single Mom

Hello Emily!

I’m a single mom and my daughter is 2 years old. I’ve told my friends that dating for me will be harder because I’m a mom, and my daughter is still very young. I’ve tried online dating apps, but the guys I’ve matched with fade off after a couple of days. What should I do? Do guys get intimidated when they meet single mothers?

I’ve lost hope in finding a relationship. Please help me, Emily!

Thanks—and love your podcast!

Nadine, 24, Texas

Nadine,

I think it’s awesome that you’re a mom, and it’s also great that you want to start dating again. Having a child doesn’t mean you’ll never find love again, so don’t lose hope!

It’s true, there are some men—especially of the younger variety—who aren’t ready to date a woman who is also a mom. However, there are plenty of men out there who won’t be phased by it, and will be more than happy to embrace the fact that you’re a parent.

Here are a few tips to ease you back into the dating pool:

Do be upfront. It’s obviously important to let the person you’re dating know that you have a daughter well before things get serious. Being a mom is obviously your focus, but that doesn’t mean your daughter has to dominate all of your conversations and activities. Always take the time to get to know someone before you introduce them to your child until you know you want to keep them around.

Don’t forget that you’re still a woman. Sure, being a mom is one of the biggest roles you could have in life, but that doesn’t mean you’ve suddenly lost your needs or desires. Channel the person you were before your daughter came along, and be your confident, sexy self.

Do tell your friends and family to be set you up. Let your friends or family be your wingmen. They can be the ones to let your future date know you have a kid, giving that person the chance to decide whether or not they can handle it before you even meet.

At the end of the day, guys get intimidated by a lot of things. Women who work a lot or hold a high-powered position, independent ladies, or even just have a strong sense of self can leave plenty of men feeling less, well, manly. All you can do is get out there and be on the lookout for that guy who isn’t going to cower in the corner just because you’re a parent. Being a single mother is a sacred thing—someone special will know that.

XX,
Emily

Emily Ratajkowski Launched a Swimwear Brand

Emily Ratajkowski has proven herself the queen of swimwear—just check her Instagram feed. So, it was only a matter of time before she started making her own. This week, the model finally fulfilled this destiny, launching her first-ever collection of bathing suits, under her very own brand.

Ratajkowski began teasing this endeavor earlier this month. And now, Inamorata Swim kicks of with six different swimsuit styles—a mix of one-pieces and bikinis—in various colors and patterns. The price point for the collection ranges from $75 to $160. Sadly, Emrata’s abs are not included in that cost.

A Californian born and bred, Ratajkowski basically grew up in a swimsuit, so this venture came pretty naturally: ““When I was 16, sometimes I would literally wake up, not put on any clothes, and I’d put on a bathing suit and get coffees and burritos for the day,” she told Vogue. In terms of inspiration, the model drew from Sports Illustrated issues from the ’70s and ’80s, as well as images of the OG supermodels, to guide the design process. As such, there are plenty of high-waisted cheeky bottoms and waist-accenting cutouts and ties throughout the collection.

The collection is ultra-feminine and sexy—a style of dress that Ratajkowski firmly stands behind. “Our society tells women we can’t be, say, sexy and confident and opinionated about politics,” she wrote in Glamour last year. “This would allow us too much power. Instead our society asks us to declare and defend our motivations, which makes us second-guess them, all while men do what they please without question.”

Inamorata Swim is Ratajkowki’s first solo collection. (She has previously collaborated on capsule collections with brands like The Kooples.) Though it’s not the typical inaugural fashion venture, it makes sense for the model’s lifestyle—not only is she L.A.-based, but she spends a lot of time in a swimsuit, per her Instagram, so you know it’s a category she’s already familiar with. Though the company launched with only six styles, we can expect her to release more styles after all of her followers buy up her inaugural.

Shop Inamorata Swim here before the styles are all scooped up!

Ask Emily: How Do I Ask My Partner for Kinkier Sex?

Hi Emily—

I’ve been dating my current boyfriend for just about a year now, and he’s amazing! We have great sex, but it’s not always the most exciting. He regularly asks me what I’m interested in, but I don’t know how to approach the topic. We recently took a sex questionnaire (where you compare answers at the end) and it really helped me to get some of my wants out on the table—which he’s been very responsive to—but I’d still like to try some more exciting things, like temperature play and being tied down.

How do I bring these up without A, scaring the pants off him, and B, making him feel bad? Because I love our sex, I just think it could be more intense and sensual.

Thank you in advance,

Amelia, 26, France

Hi Amelia—

Your partner certainly seems like he’s open to discussing your wants and needs in the bedroom, which isn’t something many people can say about their significant other. While talking about having kinkier sex can be a hard conversation to have, his pants won’t be coming off out of fear. So instead of worrying about scaring him, it’s time to focus on blowing his mind (and yours!) with these tips:

Don’t wait until you’re already doing the deed to talk about it.

Rather than springing what you want to try on him mid-sex, try bringing it up in a more neutral setting, like during a car ride or at dinner. Casually bring up the questionnaire you two took and tell him it really got you thinking about new and exciting things you want to try.

Do reassure him about your current sex life.

Be sensitive to his feelings. If you say you want to switch things up and don’t give him a reason why, his thoughts can go from, This is cool, to, Oh no, what’s wrong? real quick. Reassure him that you love your sex life, and that you’re just curious about what else you two can experience together.

Don’t make it all about you.

Asking him what he’s always fantasized about in the bedroom can have a positive effect on how the conversation goes. For one, it can loosen you up to hear about his fantasies, making it easier to talk about yours. Two, it lets him know that his fantasies matter, too.

Do focus on your tone.

How you say something can make or break how it’s perceived. Keeping your tone curious and upbeat lets your partner know that you’re genuinely excited about exploring how far your pleasure can go.

When in doubt, fall back on that questionnaire the two of you took and use it as a blueprint for your conversation about having kinkier sex. And remember, your guy wants to please you, so I’m sure he’ll be nothing but thrilled for what’s to come.

xx,
Emily

Meet Natalie, Emily, and Alyvia Alyn Lind: the Sisters About to Take Over Hollywood

The expression “It runs in the family” takes on a whole new layer when you consider how many famous siblings there are in Hollywood. As the Hemsworth brothers, the Olsen twins, the Fanning sisters, the Gyllenhaals, and the entire Kardashian-Jenner dynasty have shown, some families seem to be blessed with extra talent and good genes.

That’s why we took notice when a new trio of sisters started to appear on the scene. Meet the Alyn Linds: Natalie, 17; Emily, 15; and Alyvia (also known as Aly), 10. They’re young, but they’ve been working hard for years and are poised to become the next generation of small and big-screen stars.

And though their names might be new to you, you’ve likely seen at least one of them in a show or movie over the last decade. Both Emily and Aly appeared as young versions of Amanda on ABC’s Revenge, and Natalie has spent the last few years on Gotham (as Silver St. Cloud) and The Goldbergs. She made her TV debut in 2006 on One Tree Hill when—wait for it—her mother, Barbara Alyn Woods, played Deb Scott on the series.

“We were born into it,” Natalie jokes. “When I was born, my mom was doing the TV show version of Honey, I Shrunk the Kids. When Emily was born, she was doing a movie. And when Aly was born, she was doing One Tree Hill.” (The whole family is in the industry, actually: The girls’ father, John Lind, is a director/producer and met Barbara on the set of Honey, I Shrunk the Kids.)

Now, starting tonight, Natalie makes her debut as Lauren Strucker on Fox’s new Marvel series The Gifted. Later this season, Emily will join the cast of CBS’ Code Black full-time as Marcia Gay Harden’s adopted daughter. And then there’s Aly, who just finished playing a young Dolly Parton on NBC’s Christmas special Coat of Many Colors and currently stars on the CBS daytime drama, The Young and the Restless. Aly will also appear alongside Anna Faris in the Overboard remake.

So, yeah, you’ll be seeing a lot more of the Alyn Lind sisters in the coming years.

Clearly, their hard work is paying off—but performing is something they’ve always loved doing. “Their journey into acting just kind of happened,” their mother, Barbara, explains. “There wasn’t a plan; it wasn’t our goal. But just like a kid decides to play soccer or become a cheerleader or become a scientist, whatever it is they decide, you just accept what they do. It was inevitable, I think, in their case because John and I are both in the business, but they succeeded at it and they love it. Because of that, I get just as much—if not more—satisfaction and pride. They have such level heads, and they’re so good to everyone on the set. That makes me prouder than anything.”

It helps that Natalie, Emily, and Aly have each other when they hit rough patches. “A lot of actors go through this career having to figure it out for themselves, but when I have a question, I’ll turn to my sisters or my mom or my dad because we have the pleasure of being able to relate on the same subjects,” Natalie says. “That’s pretty incredible.”

Of course, Barbara and her husband try to guide them as much as possible. “Having done this for many years, it’s just really important for them to stay true to themselves,” Barbara says. “This business always want to meld you into what it thinks it wants. They want you to be younger, to be older, to have different hair colors, to be thinner…. I don’t want them to listen to those that say, ‘You need to be this, or you need to be that.'”

The sisters’ goals extend beyond acting—they want to make an impact with their chosen profession. “I want to see stories onscreen that my friends and I go through in our regular lives,” Emily says. “I’ve seen my friends battle eating disorders, anxiety disorders, mental illness…lots of things that people don’t always want to talk about.” She references Lily Collins’ portrayal of a young woman battling anorexia in To the Bone and 13 Reasons Why as the kind of content her generation needs. “When I watch TV or see a movie, I think, ‘I want to relate to this character.’ I want to know that someone is here for me whether it’s a 30-minute show or a 2-hour film. That’s our role as actors, and those are the roles I want to play. I know kids who have gone through things and feel very alone. When you watch movies or television, you don’t want to see the perfect person all the time. It gets really boring.”

“I mean, look at Wonder Woman and what Gal Gadot and Patty Jenkins did,” Natalie adds. “They were both so inspiring. They didn’t take away from the male characters and still made them these extremely strong and badass guys. You just feel empowered walking out of that movie and proud to be a woman. That’s so important.”

Which is why the sisters want to make a point of working with more women—both in front of and behind the camera. “I just did a movie [2016’s An American Girl Story] where the entire crew was mostly female, and they were all amazing,” Aly says. “It’s so empowering.”

“Maybe it’s a maternal thing, but you just feel really safe in the environment,” Emily adds. “A lot of times when you are around guys, you feel like maybe they’ll put you down for certain things. This is not with everyone, but you might have your guard up a little bit more. You’re not yourself as much.”

“I’d never done the mandatory safety meeting about sexual harassment until recently,” she continued. “The instructor was talking about how guys on set will sometimes call you out, like, ‘Hey baby.’ And the guys [in the class] weren’t taking it seriously. They were yelling out jokes. In the back of my mind, I was thinking, ‘Oh, you’re not taking this seriously. You’re still going to think the same things no matter what.’ Honestly, I’m really over it. I don’t want to be called baby or sugar. I don’t like it. Don’t treat me like that just because I’m a woman. A lot of crews—and don’t get me wrong, I’ve had amazing crews with men—but you’ll overhear conversations, and they’re very sexist. The bottom line is, a lot of times guys don’t realize the effects of their comments. We all just need to be super respectful of each other.”

Seeing more successful female directors in the industry, like Jenkins and Angelina Jolie, have also inspired the sisters to think about what their own careers could look like. “I love that Angelina Jolie has gone behind the camera in addition to acting,” Natalie says. “I love this industry, but I don’t want to be solely an actress. What I admire most about Angelina is that her mind is as equally beautiful as her body. It’s important to keep your mind as beautiful as your heart.”

The future is long and bright for the sisters, but there is one constant that will keep them grounded: their bond from these shared experiences. “Your family is forever, no matter what,” Natalie explains. “You can’t break that sister bond. We’ll always be close.”

Emily Ratajkowski Debuted the Sleekest Lob at Rihanna's Diamond Ball

PHOTO: Jamie McCarthy/Getty Images for Marc Jacobs

Some of us get really excited to show off a new hair cut. We anxiously await a night out or work on Monday as a chance to debut it for friends and colleagues. But when you’re Emily Ratajkowski, your New Hair Night Out is at Rihanna’s third-annual Diamond Ball, which is truly aspirational. On Friday at the event, the most gorgeous part of her outfit wasn’t her all-black, bustier-and-maxi-skirt ensemble or sunset-y makeup (which were both stunning)—instead, it was the sleek-AF lob that crowned her look.

We’ve seen Emily with one before—namely, back in January at the Golden Globes. She opted to trade her signature waves in for an equally wavy, piece-y lob that hit right at her shoulders. As it turns out, she had tricked us all: her stylist, Christian Wood, told us that it was a faux bob and that he’d cut a few pieces, tucked a few others, braided a bit more, and voilá. The look was soooo good, but, as we wrote through tears, it was not to last.

Until now! Unless it’s another con job, it very convincingly looks like she’s taken the plunge. Emrata posted a pic to Instagram on Friday night of her look as she was getting all glam at her hotel for Rihanna’s event. In the pic, she captioned it with a diamond emoji to represent her destination, followed by the handles of makeup artist Patrick Ta, hairstylist Jennifer Yepez, and colorist Aura.

Taking some inspiration? Here’s what it looks like from the side:

The cut is minimalist and sharp, warmed up by the infusion of honey and golden tones. In contrast, here’s what it looked like last Thursday—huge difference, no?

Of course, it could be a wig—or, yes, a color job with another faux do (according to Aura’s Insta, dye was, in fact, applied to her hair). But it’s gorgeous no matter what.
