21 Best Dinnerware Sets in 2020: Matching Dinner Plates

It seems like everyone wants to emerge from quarantine with a newfound hobby or skillset, and mine is the art of dining in. Whether I’m heating up a frozen pizza or making a meal from scratch, the best dinnerware sets have the power to make it all feel more polished, because a good presentation makes all the difference. Being intentional about dining has been integral to my WFH life: It helps my family and I maintain regular eating hours despite our wonky new schedules, and it lessens the sting of missing our favorite restaurants.

Don’t get me wrong, I’ve always loved to cook but never really felt like I had the time to do it on a daily basis. Now, I’ve been tasked with (and have happily taken on) the challenge of feeding my family with fresh daily meals, and I’ve realized feeding my daughters on a pretty patterned plate cuts mealtime in half. My husband also appreciates a date night (even if it’s 10 feet away from the kids these days)—and what better way to set the ambiance than an eye-catching tablescape of bone china, white porcelain, or a mix and match 4-piece plate setting? Of course, keeping clean up easy is key, so dishwasher-safe dinnerware is also at the top of my list. Below, I’ve rounded up the best dinnerware sets to invest in whether you’re dining casual, fancy, somewhere in between, or just looking to show off at your next Zoom party.

This 'Bored' Sports Broadcaster Filmed A Play-By-Play of His Dogs Racing to Eat Their Dinner and It's Brilliant

People are finding all sorts of interesting ways to stay busy while social distancing, but this sports broadcaster’s play-by-play of his pups racing to eat their food is exactly what we all need right now.

Though many sporting events have been canceled and postponed across the world due to the coronavirus pandemic—including the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games—BBC sports broadcaster Andrew Cotter found a new way to keep doing what he loves.

The clip, which was posted to Twitter on Friday, March 27, shows his two Labradors, Mabel and Olive, racing to see who can finish off a bowl of dog food the quickest. However, it was Cotter’s colorful commentary that made the footage so brilliant.

“I was bored,” Cotter captioned the recording, which has garnered over five million views in just 24 hours.

In the video, he put all his skill and experience to good use by describing his dogs’ mealtime as though it was a competition. It featured all the elements of a real sporting event and there was even a sassy person in the “crowd” telling him to “get on with it” at the beginning of the race.

“You can see the contrast in styles. Mabel’s heavy tail use. Happy to be alive. Everything’s amazing. Olive more steady, wasting little energy,” Cotter commented before delivering the best line of the video, “Focused, relentless, tasting absolutely nothing.”

You can watch the video for yourself below:

In the end, the winner was Olive, who finished her bowl first. “What a final we’ve had here. Great rivals, but great friends,” Cotter concluded. “Join us again tomorrow live coverage of a snooze on the sofa.”

The clip has been so well received online that people are urging Cotter to release a sequel.

They’ve also been thanking him for providing them with this feel-good content.

It’s safe to say people are obsessed. Here’s hoping there are more funny dog videos like this one to come from Cotter. We deserve it.

16 Best Healthy Cookbooks to Inspire Your Next Skype Dinner

Just a few weeks ago, most of us were rushing through dinner, scarfing down lunch, and chugging coffee for breakfast. The healthy cookbooks on our shelves did little more than collect dust and catch the occasional side-eye before we called-in takeout. “Staying home” has taken on a whole new meaning, and our kitchen counters have quickly turned into makeshift desks and happy hour spots. But if there’s one upside to this crisis, it’s that with all the added time inside, we can finally test the limits of what we think we can cook.

True to form, everyone with a pan and a social media account is making their stove their happy place—meaning there’s more mouthwatering food inspo than ever. So whether you’re cooking for your vegan, plant-loving partner or dusting off the Le Creuset for a slow-roasted chicken with friends at a Netflix Party, here are 16 of the best healthy cookbooks to maybe (just maybe) coax you into actually picking up a new hobby.

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry Had Dinner with Jennifer Lopez and Alex Rodriguez in Miami

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry may be enjoying their “quiet life” in Canada, since stepping down as working members of the royal family—but that doesn’t mean they’re not making moves behind the scenes.

It was recently reported that the Sussexes popped over to Miami for an appearance at a private JP Morgan event, where Harry gave a speech that touched on mental health, as well as their decision to leave the UK for North America, at least part-time. Not to diminish the importance of his speech, but I’m just as interested in a dinner that reportedly took place following the speech between the couple and Jennifer Lopez and Alex Rodriguez.

Page Six reports the two couples dined at Habitat, a restaurant inside the 1Hotel South Beach, on Thursday night (February 6). “Harry and Meghan got on really well with Jennifer and Alex, and spent some time chatting with them over dinner,” their source said. “J. Lo was overheard inviting the couple and their baby Archie to her and Alex’s house in Miami to spend time with them and their kids.”

While we’ll likely never know exactly what the foursome talked about, here are some topics that I hope came up: J. Lo and Shakira’s Super Bowl halftime performance and the ridiculous sexist backlash; the royals’ trip to a Major League Baseball game in the U.K. last summer and whether or not they’ll raise Archie as Yankees fan; Lopez’s Oscar snub and that “Criminal” dance routine from Hustlers; a personal invite to the Lopez/Rodriguez nuptials; and possible charitable projects they can all work on together.

Seriously, what a power couple dinner. It was also rumored that Markle and Harry stayed with the duchess’s good friend, Serena Williams, at her home in Palm Beach while they were in Florida. So while they Sussexes may have put some distance between themselves and the British royal family, they’re happily spending time with American royalty.

Taylor Swift Hosted a Friendsgiving Dinner for All Her Famous BFFs

Just when you thought Jennifer Aniston hosted the most star-studded Friendsgiving this side of Hollywood, Gigi Hadid, Taylor Swift and more A-listers in NYC gathered for their own celebrations.

On Saturday, Hadid shared a photo to her Instagram Stories showing off a gathering Swift hosted for her besties in honor of the holiday. Queer Eye‘s Antoni Porowski and fellow supermodel Martha Hunt also make an appearance in the photo. “Love you all sm,” Hadid captioned the picture.

Porowski reshared the picture captioning it, “till next time ❤️,” while Hunt posted a photo to her feed of her and Swift hugging. “Thankful for friends,” Hunt wrote alongside the sweet snap.

As Elle noted, fans couldn’t help but notice Swift excitedly sipping out of a wine glass in the picture (relatable), with many making jokes that it was the triumphant return of the “drunk Taylor” meme.

Unfortunately, Swift, Hadid nor any of the other famous dinner guests shared what else went down at the event, but E! News reports that it was an “intimate and casual” get-together.

“It’s an annual tradition for Taylor to get together with close friends and do this,” a source told E!. “Many have been at her gathering in years past. This year was intimate and casual, but they all had a great time.”

E! News also reported that following the dinner Swift jetted off to London to spend the rest of the holiday weekend in London with her longtime beau Joe Alwyn.

Let’s hope next year Aniston and Swift join forces for Friendsgiving—and invite us, of course.

Meghan Markle and Serena Williams Had a Casual Best-Friends Dinner Last Night

Meghan Markle is having the most enviable New York City trip right now. Yesterday afternoon, her friends threw her a beautiful baby shower at a swanky uptown hotel, which reportedly included lots of brightly-hued flowers, a literal orange tree, and, of course, presents. She then capped off the day with a low-key dinner with her good friend, the G.O.A.T Serena Williams. Casual.

Photographers snapped Markle, Williams, and Markle’s other good friends, Jessica Mulroney and Markus Anderson, leaving dinner at Ralph Lauren’s restaurant The Polo Bar on Tuesday night (February 19). Everyone was dressed comfortably, with Markle opting for a peacoat and boots while Williams wore glasses and a black trench coat. Williams and Mulroney had attended Markle’s baby shower earlier in the day, according to People.

Here’s photographic evidence this dinner happened. First up: A photo of Markle and Williams. (Well, Williams is in the far corner of the pic, but it’s no-less proof they hung out.)

Imagine going to dinner with the G.O.A.T and a literal duchess. I wonder what they talked about! In all seriousness, Meghan Markle and Serena Williams are quite close—their friendship dates back to 2010—so they probably had a ton to catch up on.

Williams and Markle do keep in touch, though. The tennis champ recently opened up to People about what a typical conversation with her royal best friend is like. “I’m like, ‘How are you?’ and she’s like, ‘No, how are you?’ and I’m like, ‘You’re so sweet, but I’m really asking – how are YOU?’ ” Williams said. “I’m like, ‘Meghan, stop being so nice…you’re the pregnant one, aren’t you supposed to have hormones, why are you so sweet?’ But that’s always been her.”
