Prince Harry Bought Prince Louis a $10,000 Christening Gift as a Tribute to Princess Diana

His Royal Highness Prince Louis Arthur Charles of Cambridge may be only 2 months old, but it looks as though he’s already living like a royal a.k.a. receiving gifts that cost thousands of dollars. The tiniest Windsor is being christened on Monday, July 9—and to celebrate the occasion, Prince Harry, his uncle, reportedly dropped £8,000 (that’s around $10,620) on a first-edition Winnie-the-Pooh book. (No word yet whether or not Meghan Markle added her name to her husband’s present, though she’s reportedly an excellent gift giver herself.)

According to The Sun, the price tag was originally even higher. An unnamed source told the publication that Prince Harry had initially planned to get Lewis Carroll’s Through the Looking-Glass, “on sale” for £24,000 (almost $32,000), but “decided Winnie-the-Pooh would be more suitable for a first tome.”

Why spend thousands on a book for a baby who can’t even read yet? According to The Sun, it’s a tribute to Princess Diana. “One of Harry’s happiest childhood memories was being read a bedtime story by his mother,” the source said. “She loved all the old classics, and Harry had the brilliant idea of starting a little library of first editions for Louis, Charlotte, and George to enjoy as they get older.”

This inaugural first edition, according to The Sun, is one of 30,000 that were published way back in 1926.

As for Prince Louis’s christening, it will be performed by Archbishop of Canterbury Justin Welby, the same bishop who christened Prince George and Princess Charlotte. The ceremony will also take place in the same church as Prince George’s christening, the Chapel Royal at St. James’s Palace, for an audience of 20 to 30 people. That exclusive guest list includes Louis’ six godparents, all close friends and family of Prince William and Kate Middleton.

Prince Harry, however, was not asked to be Louis’ godfather. Then again, after such a generous gift maybe William and Kate will change their minds?

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry Subtly Honored Princess Diana in Their Royal Wedding Portraits

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry paid tribute to Princess Diana in several ways on their royal wedding day. From the flowers in Markle’s wedding bouquet to the ring she wore to the reception, Princess Diana was very much a part of the couple’s special day.

And she even made an appearance in Markle and Prince Harry’s official wedding portraits—well, subtly. Both People magazine and The Business Insider confirm that the couch Prince Harry’s sitting on for the photos is the exact same couch Princess Diana sat on for Harry’s christening pics in 1984.

It’s a pretty unmistakable couch, if we’re being honest. The plush piece of furniture is forrest green with bright gold handles and legs. Even with all the children in Markle and Prince Harry’s photso, you can still tell it’s the same couch. You can see it from a mile away.

But check out the photos, below, if you don’t believe me. The first is of Markle and Prince Harry’s portrait.

Markle and Prince Harry first talked about Princess Diana in their engagement interview from November. Prince Harry included some of his mother’s stones in Markle’s engagement ring—a move that meant so much to the former Suits star.

“Everything about Harry’s thoughtfulness and the inclusion of [the diamonds] and not being able to meet his mom…. it’s important for me to know she’s a part of this with us,” Markle said. “I’m able to somehow know her through him…. To be able to have this [ring]—which links where[he] comes from—it’s perfect.”

Prince Harry added that he thinks Markle and his mother would be “thick as thieves.” “She’d be over the moon [about our relationship], jumping up and down. So excited for me,” he said. “She would’ve been best friends with Meghan. It’s days like this where I miss having her around. I’m sure she’s with us.”

Here's How Meghan Markle and Prince Harry Are Honoring Princess Diana on Their Wedding Day

It’s official: Meghan Markle will become a royal in just 14 days. And as we get closer to the big day on May 19, more and more wedding details are being released by Kensington Palace. So far we know the florist, the cake, the music, and, as of yesterday, that Meghan won’t have a maid of honor. Now, there’s new details about how exactly Meghan and Prince Harry will honor his late mother, Princess Diana.

According to Kensington Palace, Meghan and Harry have decided to make other living members of Diana’s family not just a part of the wedding, but active participants in the ceremony.

Obsessed with the Royals? Same. Click here to get Meghan Markle updates—and more—from Glamour’s daily newsletter.

“All three siblings of Diana, Princess of Wales will be in attendance and Lady Jane Fellowes will give the reading,” the statement read. “Prince Harry and Ms. Markle both feel honoured that Lady Jane will be representing her family and helping to celebrate the memory of the late Princess on the wedding day.”

While Meghan’s 3-carat diamond engagement ring already includes some of Princess Diana’s diamonds, royal expert Katie Nicholl speculates that Meghan might wear another piece of Diana’s jewelry as her “something borrowed.”

“Harry made sure Diana wasn’t forgotten on the day of his engagement,” Nicholls told British newspaper, Express. “Two of the diamonds in Meghan’s ring are from Diana’s personal collection. So I think there’s every possibility that Meghan might wear a piece from Diana’s jewelry collection on her wedding day.”

That being said, it’s unlikely Meghan will wear the Spencer tiara because she’s marrying into the Windsor family. A few more likely options? The Qatar diamond and pearl earrings gifted to Diana by the King of Qatar or a diamond and sapphire suite from the Sultan of Oman in 1986. Honestly, with choices like these, the end result—whatever it is—is bound to be stunning.

Kate Middleton Wore Red Dress Like Princess Diana at First Appearance With Royal Baby

On Monday morning, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge welcomed their third child, a son, into the world. And when it was time for mother and child stepped out in public for the first time later that day, Kate Middleton wore an outfit that appears to give a subtle nod to Princess Diana.

Middleton left the Lido Wing of St. Mary’s Hospital in London wearing a red Jenny Packham dress with a white lace Peter Pan collar. (She wore the designer to announce the birth of her two other children, Prince George and Princess Charlotte—a blue polka-dot style for the former, and a yellow floral print sheath for the latter.) The garment wasn’t just another stylish entry into the Duchess’ closet: There seem to be plenty of comparisons to be drawn between her outfit and two iconic looks from the late Princess Diana’s style book.

The first, most obvious parallel is to what Princess Diana wore to make her first appearance with a newborn Prince Harry in 1984—a long-sleeved red dress with white collar, much like Middleton’s Jenny Packham style.

Then, there are the similarities between the Duchess’ red dress and one worn by Princess Diana back in 1983, while on an official visit to Canada with Prince Charles. Remember this look?

Middleton’s take on Princess Diana’s red dresses also had a special designer touch: Middleton has now worn Jenny Packham for all three royal birth announcements. For the birth of Prince George, she donned a blue polka-dot dress by the British designer. Then when Princess Charlotte came along, she opted for a Jenny Packham yellow floral print sheath.

The Duchess has been known to mirror the fashion of Princess Diana. While Middleton’s look today isn’t a detail-for-detail match, it appears to be a sweet wink at the royal family’s history on such a big day. Here’s to more adorable photos of the growing family in the coming weeks—like at next month’s royal wedding, perhaps?

Prince Harry Reveals What Princess Diana Would've Thought of Meghan Markle

It’s long been rumored Prince Harry’s engagement ring for Meghan Markle would include diamonds that once belonged to his late mother, Princess Diana. After all, Kate Middleton’s ring was quite literally Princess Diana’s at one point, so it’s only fitting Markle’s would tribute her in some capacity, too.

And it does—several times over. In their first sit-down interview as an engaged couple, Prince Harry revealed Markle’s engagement ring includes “little diamonds on the side” that are actually from Princess Diana’s jewelry collection. That’s sentimental enough, but are you ready for this? Prince Harry designed the ring himself.

“Everything about Harry’s thoughtfulness and the inclusion of [the diamonds] and not being able to meet his mom…it’s important for me to know she’s a part of this with us,” Markle said in the interview. “I’m able to somehow know her through him…To be able to have this [ring]—which links where[he] comes from—it’s perfect.”

Unfortunately, Markle is right: She and Princess Diana will never get to meet in real life. However, Prince Harry contends his mother would’ve loved her. “They’d be thick as thieves without question,” Prince Harry said. “She’d be over the moon [about our engagement], jumping up and down. So excited for me. She would’ve been best friends with Meghan. It’s days like this where I miss having her around. I’m sure she’s with us.”

Markle has met several key members of Prince Harry’s family, though, including his grandmother, the Queen. “[Meeting her was] incredible,” Markle also said in the interview. “To be able to meet her through his lens—with the love he has for her as his grandmother—all of those layers have been so important to me.” Apparently, the Queen’s corgis took to Markle instantly, which is so adorable that I can’t breathe.

Princess Diana, born Diana Frances Spencer, was one of the most famous (and photographed) women in the world in the ’80s and ’90s. Despite all this publicity, though, there’s still so much we don’t know about her. Princess Diana is simultaneously ubiquitous and mysterious—but these 50 rare photos offer a little more insight into the real Diana and her tragically short life. Take a look.
