It Sure Looks Like Jessica Simpson Revealed Her Daughter's Name at Her Baby Shower


Jessica Simpson, if you haven’t heard, is expecting baby number three—and on Saturday, January 19, there was a shower to help welcome the new one into the world. We assumed there’d be plenty of gifts there for the forthcoming newborn, but we didn’t expect Simpson to have one for us: the name of her baby girl.

The baby shower looked like it had a sort of bohemian woodland-fairy vibe, judging by the pics she posted on her Instagram of the event. Fittingly, Simpson wore a long white dress that she paired with a Game of Thrones meets spring goddess cape. The whole look was topped off, naturally, with a flower crown. Florals were everywhere else at the party too, from the wallpaper print and arrangements to the guests, who came wearing dresses in floral prints or embellished with appliqués. And, yes, everyone had their own flower crowns.

But among all the flora and greenery, there was one telling detail that might hint at her daughter’s name: Against the backdrop where Simpson and her guests stood to post for photos, a sign hung down saying “Birdie’s Nest.” It seems like Birdie might just be the name of her forthcoming daughter, no?

It seems that might actually be the case: A source confirmed to Us Weekly that “Birdie” is indeed the name of the baby-to-be. Of course, we won’t know for sure until we hear from Simpson herself. Until then, major congrats to her (and whoever made this party happen, because it’s seriously gorgeous).

Demi Lovato's Mother Says She Still 'Shakes' Thinking About Her Daughter's Overdose


In late July news broke that Demi Lovato was hospitalized for a reported overdose. It wasn’t until August 5 that the singer opened up about the incident herself, writing on Instagram, “I have always been transparent about my journey with addiction. What I’ve learned is that this illness is not something that disappears or fades with time. It is something I must continue to overcome and have not done yet.” Lovato ended her message by telling fans she was going to take some time to “heal and focus on [her] sobriety and road to recovery,” and she hasn’t updated her social media channels since.

Now, the singer’s mother, Dianna de la Garza, is talking about what happened. In a new interview with Newsmax TV, de la Garza confirms Lovato did overdose and that the entire ordeal still makes her “shake.” “It’s still a really difficult thing to talk about,” de la Garza said in the interview. “I literally start to shake a little bit when I start to remember what happened that day.”

According to de la Garza, she first heard about Lovato’s overdose from her friends and loved ones, who bombarded her with text messages expressing their condolences. What they were talking about exactly was still unclear to her, but it became all too real when she received a phone call from Lovato’s assistant, Kelsey. “[Kelsey] said, ‘Demi overdosed,’ de la Garza recalled.

That’s when she and her two other daughters, Dallas and Madison, rushed to the hospital. “We got there as quickly as we could,” de la Garza said. “Dallas and Madison and I jumped out of the car at the emergency room and ran into the emergency room to be by her side. [Lovato] just didn’t look good—at all. She was in bad shape. But I said to her, ‘Demi, I’m here. I love you.’ And at that point she said back to me, ‘I love you, too.'”

De la Garza believes the positive thoughts she and Lovato’s legion of fans put into the universe are why she’s still here today. “I don’t think she would be here if it hadn’t been for those prayers and the good doctors and Cedars-Sinai,” de la Garza said.”They were the best. I couldn’t have asked for a better team of people to save her life.”

Fans will be pleased to know Lovato is now happy, healthy, and “working on her sobriety,” according to de la Garza. “She’s getting the help she needs,” she added. “That in itself encourages me about her future and about the future of our family.”

Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds Had the Best Reaction to Their Daughter's Cameo at Taylor Swift's Concert


Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds are up there with their friends Chrissy Teigen and John Legend when it comes to bringing us normals parenting and relationship hilarity. Last night, Lively and Reynolds were spotted on a date night that involved heading to a Taylor Swift concert in Foxborough, Massachusetts, to watch their good friend shake it off on stage—but they also had another reason for being there.

Lively and Reynolds’ daughter, James, makes a cameo during T.Swift’s “Gorgeous”—specifically, the 3-year-old says “gorgeous” during the intro—and when the big moment came, the two parents freaked the freak out. Lively, in true proud-mom style, whips out her phone and begins recording the big moment. She films her and Reynolds’ reactions to their daughter’s appearance on the track for posterity, too—and let’s just say we’re beyond excited for when a teenage James finds this recording.

One fan caught the whole moment going down, and it’s honestly adorable:

But Lively and Reynolds didn’t share a date night alone: The cool mom and dad arrived with their good friend Gigi Hadid (no big deal) and hung out together in the VIP section.

Lively and Hadid were also spotted having the best time while Swift sang “Style.”

Honestly, this whole situation is #friendshipgoals—but it’s Lively and Reynolds’ proud parent moment that was the true highlight of the show.

Serena Williams Said She Missed Her Daughter's First Footsteps, and Twitter Was Amazing About It


Serena Williams is back at Wimbledon after the birth of her first child, Alexis Olympia, and so far, the 23-time Grand Slam champ has been crushing it on the court. But in a totally real tweet on Saturday, Williams revealed nothing is as easy as it looks, especially since all of her training has meant that she’s missed special moments with her daughter.

On Saturday, Williams shared that while she was practicing at the All England Club, her toddler walked for the first time. “She took her first steps… I was training and missed it. I cried,” she wrote on Twitter.

In one of those rare moments of sweetness on Twitter, her emotional tweet sparked a flood of support and solidarity from other moms, who understand how hard it can be to balance parenthood plus work and life. Many women shared that they had also missed certain rites of passage with their kids because of their careers—which is totally understandable and yes, totally fine—and quickly comforted Williams. “My motherhood rule: the first you see is the first time it happened FULL STOP!” one social media user wrote.

It’s not the first time Williams has opened up about motherhood: She’s detailed the serious complications she faced while giving birth, which left her bedridden for six weeks. She also opened up to Glamour about the challenges that come with being a new mom. She described “the frustration” as being one of the biggest difficulties. “When the baby starts crying and you don’t know what to do, you get frustrated,” she said.

Williams has also had to navigate her career after becoming a new mom. She missed Wimbledon last year when she was pregnant, and before she competed in the French Open this spring, her rank was dropped from No. 1 down to No. 453—never mind the fact that she had won her record 23rd Grand Slam title at the Australian Open when she was nine weeks pregnant. (After seeing the backlash, the U.S. Open announced that they would make sure not to penalize athletes for maternity leave.)

Still, the tennis champion is back in the game, and she competes against Evgeniya Rodina—who is also a mom—on Monday. We have no doubt that, whatever the outcome, Olympia will be proud of her champion mom.

Kim Kardashian and Kanye West Just Revealed Their Daughter's Name


Despite rumors otherwise, we now know for sure that Kim Kardashian and Kanye West one-thousand percent did not name their daughter after Louis Vuitton. So what did they name her, you ask? After Kanye’s hometown: Chicago. Yes, the newest member of the Kardashian-West family is officially Chicago West. Kim revealed her daughter’s name on her app today, along with Chicago’s birthday (January 15, 2018), time of birth (12:47 A.M.), and birth weight (7 pounds, 6 ounces). She then followed that up with a tweet that seems to indicate Chicago will have a nickname: “North, Saint & Chi.”

“Kanye and I are happy to announce the arrival of our healthy, beautiful baby girl,” Kim wrote on her website Monday to announce Chicago’s birth. “We are incredibly grateful to our surrogate who made our dreams come true with the greatest gift one could give and to our wonderful doctors and nurses for their special care. North and Saint are especially thrilled to welcome their baby sister.”

Chicago has only been in the world a few days, but she’s already caused quite a stir. (She does share Kim and Kanye’s genes, after all.) After Kim posted the Louis Vuitton symbols on Instagram earlier this week, many fans speculated that the child was named after the fashion brand. But that’s relatively harmless compared to the theories that have been floating around that Kylie Jenner, who is reportedly pregnant, was Kim’s surrogate or gestational carrier. Kim dismissed those rumors, though, in a blog post yesterday about her choice to use a gestational carrier through an agency.

“It’s not for everyone, but I absolutely love my gestational carrier and this was the best experience I’ve ever had,” she wrote. “The connection with our baby came instantly and it’s as if she was with us the whole time.”

Serena Williams Got Extremely Personal About the Scary Circumstances of Her Daughter's Birth


In the cover story for the new issue of Vogue, tennis star Serena Williams revealed “everything went bad” both during and after her emergency C-section delivery of her daughter Alexis Olympia Ohanian Jr. She recounted how she found herself short of breath, thought it might be a clot based on her medical history, and had to advocate for herself to finally get the CT test and blood thinner she believed she needed. Her suspicions were quickly confirmed as a pulmonary embolism was discovered and removed. After that scare, over the next few days the clots made her cough so much that her C-section stitches broke open and the blood thinner she was taking caused hemorrhaging at the C-section site, causing a large hematoma to flood her abdomen. That’s some scary stuff for anyone—greatest athlete of our time or not—to go through.

Williams is now opening up about the experience even further, posting an extremely personal Facebook post (complete with a new, adorable video of Olympia) yesterday.”I didn’t expect that sharing our family’s story of Olympia’s birth and all of complications after giving birth would start such an outpouring of discussion from women — especially black women — who have faced similar complications and women whose problems go unaddressed.” She goes on to say that, per the CDC, black women are more than three times more likely to die from pregnancy or childbirth-related complications than white women. (According to the CDC, between 2011 and 2013, the pregnancy/mortality ratios were 12.7 deaths per 100,000 live births for white women and 43.5 deaths per 100,000 live births for black women.)

“We have a lot of work to do as a nation and I hope my story can inspire a conversation that gets us to close this gap,” Williams wrote. To be sure, her story already has inspired women to come forward, which you can see just in the comments on her post so far. One woman named Chaunta Stevens wrote: “During my first pregnancy I developed toxemia and preeclampsia. I was in my 31st week of pregnancy with extreme swelling in my hands, legs and feet. I told my OB during my visit that I didn’t feel well and that the swelling was getting worse. She reassured me that that was normal, nothing to worry about and sent me home,” she said. “The next day my husband took me to the ER and I was immediately admitted due stroke-range high blood pressure and high protein in my urine. I was transferred for a emergency C-section due to placenta detachment. My daughter was born 9 weeks early at 2 lbs 4 oz.” Stories like these remind us how important it is to advocate for yourself in every patient-doctor situation, and Williams’ post spreads even more awareness.

Perhaps Williams said it best herself: “Let me be clear: EVERY mother, regardless of race, or background deserves to have a healthy pregnancy and childbirth. I personally want all women of all colors to have the best experience they can have. We can help others. Our voices are our power.”
