Beyonce Carried a $5,000 Bedazzled Money Roll Clutch, As One Does

Beyoncé has been on something of an affordable fashion kick this fall. Just last weekend, she stunned in a $56 Mistress Rocks bodysuit and $105 House of CB skirt; before that, she wore a $165 House of CB dress to Rihanna’s Diamond Ball. We’ve seen the “low” of Queen Bey’s “high-low style”—it was only a matter of time until we got the “high.” And last night at the Tidal X: Brooklyn event in New York, she delivered, her handbag of choice reiminding us that we can’t copy every one of her looks.

Beyoncé walked the red carpet in a custom emerald gown by Walter Mendez and Lorraine Swartz jewelry—and though both of these were incredibly stunning, our eyes immediately went to the glittery bag she was carrying. This wasn’t a run-of-the-mill bedazzled clutch we could pick up at Forever21—it was something much more intriguing.

A closer look (and don’t worry, there are plenty on Instagram) revealed that her handbag of choice was a limited edition collaboration between legendary accessories designer Judith Leiber (known for her bedazzled evening bags) and streetwear king Alexander Wang. Aptly titled the “Show Me the Money!” bag, it’s made to look like a roll of $100 bills, rendered in Swarovski crystals… naturally.

As you would expect of a literal money bag, it checks in at a casual $4,995 a pop.

The collaboration debuted just a few weeks ago, on the Alexander Wang Fall 2017 runway. Even more recently, though, it was carried around by Kim Kardashian this past weekend.

Nothing gets our interest going in a designer collaboration quite like an unofficial celebrity endorsement—so, two in one week? That’s pretty good for 10,263 Swarovski crystal-topped clutch. If you somehow have $5K collecting dust and want a novelty accessory to blow it on, Beyonce’s exact clutch is available through the Crystals From Swarovski website—though supplies are extremely limited: Only twenty bags were made. Considering the hefty price tag to literally show the world that you’ve got green, we’ll stick to trying out Beyoncé’s under-$200 dresses instead.

Beyoncé Was Almost Cast in the Live-Action 'Beauty and the Beast'

Would the world have been able to handle Beauty and the Beast and The Beyoncé? Because that could have been a reality. Beauty and the Beast director Bill Condon wanted Bey for the role of Plumette the feather duster in his live-action remake of the 1991 Disney classic. Unfortunately, “it wasn’t a big enough part,” he told Yahoo! Movies. The part of Plumette eventually went to Gugu Mbatha-Raw. And ever-gracious Beyoncé, along with Blue Ivy and Jay-Z, still supported the film by attending the L.A. premiere together.

Beyoncé and Condon had previously worked together on 2006’s Dreamgirls, one of only two musicals Beyoncé has done (the other being Carmen: A Hip Hopera). She’s also appeared in comedy films like The Pink Panther and Austin Powers: Goldmember. With her busy schedule and multitude of projects, it makes sense that Beyoncé would rather focus on the big parts than take a supporting role, but we have to point out that she did voice Queen Tara in 2013’s Epic, which, as far as we can tell, isn’t a lead. Her most recent on-screen role (besides music videos) was Sharon in Obsessed in 2009.

This isn’t the only time Beyoncé turned down voice work with Disney. She was considered for the part of Tiana, the protagonist of The Princess and the Frog—and the first Black Disney Princess—but lost the role to her Dreamgirls costar Anika Noni Rose after not wanting to audition.

Clamoring to audition for Disney, on the other hand, was Idris Elba, who revealed in September that he’d sent in a tape of himself singing in a bid to play Gaston. Elba, who has a musical theater background, “called and said, ‘I want in!'” but speculated that the casting department thought he was “too old.” The part eventually went to 38-year-old Luke Evans, instead of 45-year-old Elba. But there was no bad blood. “I love you, Luke, you know that,” said Elba.

Condon, too, remains a fan of Beyoncé’s, remarking to Yahoo! Movies that her visual album Lemonade may be the future of the movie musical. And even without Beyoncé’s talents, Beauty and the Beast made more than a billion dollars at the worldwide box office. As Knowles herself said, “Always stay gracious, best revenge is your papers.”

Tina Knowles Lawson Is All Of Us Trying to Nail This Beyoncé Dance Routine


Tina Knowles Lawson—also known as the woman who quite literally brought Beyoncé into this world—and her husband Richard have at least one thing in common with the rest of us: They start their mornings dancing to Beyoncé.

On Friday, Tina posted an Instagram video that showed her, her man, and a small group of friends breaking down choreo to Destiny’s Child’s 2004 hit “Lose My Breath”—a daily occurrence, apparently.

“This is @mrrichardlawson @rl_studios exercise crew @keneshahemmings @mdenises11 @jessicasadeward @thereelcourtney @candicelenoir @aleshabraden @iamjohnnycrown. We work out every morning very early?we do different routines every day. I’m not so great on this one but give me another week and I’ll be like “watch me now”?. Rocking that IVY PARK❤️”

In addition to morning workouts, Tina’s been busy providing aid to Texas residents affected by Hurricane Harvey—she and her family are from Houston—and earlier this month joined Bey and Destiny’s Child member Michelle Williams at St. Johns Church in Houston, where Beyoncé got her start.

“We do special things in the community, feed the homeless, we have housing, which houses people,” Tina told ET. “It’s so sentimental seeing Beyoncé here because she hadn’t been able to come for a long time, She started singing on this stage, so it’s real[ly] emotional.”

This Gorgeous Woven Bag Beyoncé Posted on Instagram Is $150


It’s pretty much undisputed that Beyoncé is the queen of Instagram fashion shoots and of couture: we’ve caught her ‘grams of a stunning $7,560 date-night outfit—and who can forget that $22,000 kimono she wore…to a basketball game? But what’s a little less visible is that she knows good design doesn’t necessarily mean a high price tag. Three of her most recent Fashion-with-a-capital-F posts, in fact, feature her working a more affordable accessory: the woven Parme Marin bag that hangs from her hand is $150.

On Friday, she posted three images of herself in 16 different poses showing off some high-waisted plaid shorts, a denim top with a ruffled neckline, a pair of black heels, and a killer blue lip. The star of the look, however, is Parme Marin’s circular Tadlak Small Bag, which is handwoven with palm leaves and lined with African fabric.

Not in its product description? Considering there are 1 million likes and counting on the images, chances of the Bey-approved bag selling out are probably pretty high.

It’s not the first time we’ve seen her play the other side of the high-low fashion game recently: earlier this month, she showed up to Rihanna’s Diamond Ball in a $165 House of CB gown. Then there’s her activewear line, Ivy Park, which is also fairly affordable with workout leggings for $65 and T-shirts for $30. Even Bey’s stylist recommends shopping at Target, which we can so get behind.

Straw, wicker, and other woven bags have been big for a few seasons now, along with straw hats—and after this, we’re pretty sure they’ll continue to be. It has to be said: it feels good to know that even if we will never be Beyoncé, at least we can dress like her.

Beyonce Wore a $165 Dress to Rihanna's Diamond Ball


We’ve seriously missed Beyoncé during her hiatus from the spotlight. (Though, she has blessed us with some pretty epic pictures of her and her newborn twins, Rumi and Sir Carter.) Last night, our wishes for more Queen Bey were granted, finally, when she made her grand re-entrance to the red carpet at Rihanna’s third annual Diamond Ball. Well, she technically didn’t stop at the step-and-repeat—but she gamely posed for pictures inside of the charity event with all of our favorite attendees. Our favorite part about this appearance, though? How surprisingly affordable her ensemble was.

For Rihanna’s ultra-fancy gala, Beyoncé opted or a teal satin maxi dress by London-based brand House of CB, according to InStyle. However, unlike the other gowns on display at the Diamond Ball, her exact style retails for only $165. (She paired the affordable wrap silhouette with Giuseppe Zanotti platform heels, because even Queen Bey enjoys a good high-low moment.)

The Serafina (Beyoncé’s style of choice) is in stock on House of CB’s online shop, surprisingly enough. But if the hype around any of her other shoppable endeavors is any indication (hi, Ivy Park), it won’t be available much longer.

Not every celebrity could make a budget-friendly dress look this luxe—but then again, not every celebrity is Beyoncé. We’re hoping that her next public appearance will include more affordable pieces to copy. (She’s been known to rock her House of CB as well as her Gucci, after all.)

Beyoncé Gets Serious About Climate Change in Emotional Video


As a Houston native, Beyoncé was personally touched by Hurricane Harvey. But her view of the devastating storm—as well as Hurricane Irma and other natural disasters—is also political. With many scientists blaming rising temperatures for the recent surge of storms, Bey wants us to be prepared for the future disasters climate change is likely to bring.

“The effects of climate change are playing out around the world every day,” she said in a video for the Hand in Hand hurricane relief telethon, where people dialed in to donate to help Hurricane Harvey and Hurricane Irma’s victims. “Just this past week, we’ve seen devastation from the monsoon in India, an 8.1 earthquake in Mexico and multiple catastrophic hurricanes. Irma, alone, has left a trail of death and destruction from the Caribbean to Florida to the Southern United States. We have to be prepared for what comes next. So tonight we come together in a collective effort to raise our voices, to help our communities, to lift our spirits and heal.”

Bey also said she sees a silver lining in all the recent storm clouds: that people of all different backgrounds have been helping one another.

“Natural disasters don’t discriminate,” she said. “They don’t see if you’re an immigrant, black or white, Hispanic or Asian, Jewish or Muslim, wealthy or poor. It doesn’t matter if you’re from Third Ward or River Oaks, we’re all in this together. Seeing everyone of different racial, social and religious backgrounds put their own lives at risk to help each other survive, restored my faith in humanity.”

For her part, Beyoncé’s collecting money for Bread of Life, Greater Houston Community Foundation, and Texas Southern University to help Harvey survivors through her organization BeyGOOD. You can also still donate through Hand in Hand over the phone, text, or online here.
