Beyoncé and Blue Ivy Look Like Twins in This New Photo, and Fans Are Living for It


It’s hard to believe Blue Ivy Carter, the eldest daughter of Beyoncé and Jay-Z, is about to turn 8 years old on January 7. It seems like just yesterday we were all anxiously awaiting her birth—and name.

Now she’s out here singing on her parents’ tracks and looking like her mom’s total twin. To celebrate the new year, Beyoncé posted a retrospective video of 2019 to her Instagram. In it you get to see big public moments, like The Lion King‘s London premiere where Bey and Jay met Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, or their courtside seats for the NBA playoffs. But the fiercely private singer also gave a glimpse into her private life with images from a second birthday party for twins, Rumi and Sir. And there’s lots of Blue looking so much like her mom.

But it’s a photo of Beyoncé, Blue Ivy, and Megan Thee Stallion from New Year’s Eve that has everyone talking.

Fans couldn’t help but call out the resemblance. “Beyoncé literally gave birth to herself with blue ivy. this is so beautiful. im crying,” one tweeted. “Beyoncé made blue by herself,” another wrote.

This isn’t the first time the mother-daughter duo has done the twinning thing. They wore coordinating Alexander McQueen sparkling blazers and skirts to The Lion King premiere in Los Angeles in July. (Bey starred as the voice of Nala in the remake.) Blue has a credit for her vocals on “Brown-Skinned Girl,” a song from Beyoncé album, The Lion King: The Gift, released with the movie.

The singer also took her daughter to the Wearable Art Gala in 2019 and while they didn’t match their outfits, the facial resemblance was so strong.

Blue Ivy Steals the Show in Beyoncé's New 'Spirit' Music Video


It’s becoming increasingly clear who the true star of the Knowles-Carter family is—and it’s Blue Ivy. The 7-year-old takes center stage in her mom Beyoncé‘s new “Spirit” video, a song from the new live-action remake of The Lion King. (Bey plays Nala in the film.)

In the video, Bey and Jay-Z’s eldest child looks so much like her mom as she joins her in a scene desert scene, walking over to Beyoncé and taking her hand. It’s perfectly juxtaposed with a moment from the film where young Simba steps into his father’s pawprint. The pair are wearing similar pink flowing dresses and long curls, surrounded by a group of female dancers. It’s a poignant and powerful moment in the video and certainly proves that Blue has inherited her mother’s X-factor.

The song’s lyrics are incredibly inspiring as well: “Spirit, can you hear it calling?/ Yeah/ Your destiny is coming close, stand up and fight/ So go into that far-off land/ And be one with the great I am, I am.” Who doesn’t love a Beyoncé power ballad?

The rest of the video is filled with equally stunning visuals featuring large groups of dancers wearing vibrant colors alongside Beyoncé. And yes, you do get to see clips from The Lion King interspersed. We see some sweet moments between Simba (Donald Glover) and Beyoncé’s Nala, as well as shots of the fatal fight between Scar and Mufasa, and those pesky hyenas.

Beyoncé and Blue Ivy Went Full-on 'Lion King' With Their Wearable Art Gala Looks


Disney is taking its 1994 classic The Lion King and updating it into a computer-animated musical that’s dropping this summer. Messing with a beloved film is risky, but we’ve felt good about this one ever since news emerged that Beyoncé would be voicing Nala. Now, it’s clear that she’s really taking her role to heart: At the Wearable Art Gala hosted by her mother Tina Lawson in Santa Monica this weekend, Bey channeled her character in the most impressive way.

Queen Bey showed up to the event in a glistening gold Georges Hobeika-designed bodysuit that had a lion’s face proudly sewn on the front. Because she never does anything halfway, she added feathers for the lion’s mane, tons of sequins, and a stunning draped cape. Of course, her hair and make-up were styled to go with the regal look.

A few photos she posted on Instagram (keep swiping through!) also show the adorable outfit and headdress that her mini-me Blue Ivy chose for the occasion. In a video clip Bey posted, you can even see Blue Ivy singing along to “The Circle of Life,” showing that pretty much the entire family is getting into Beyoncé’s part in the new film.

The Wearable Art Gala is an event put together by Where Art Can Occur (WACO), an organization that Lawson and her husband started a few years ago. The gala is in its third year, and the 2019 theme was “A Journey to the Pride Lands”—which means Bey pretty much nailed it. She was joined at the celebration by former Destiny’s Child members Kelly Rowland and Michelle Williams.

The film is slated to come out on July 19, 25 years after the original was released. In addition to Beyoncé, the cast is incredible: Donald Glover is playing Simba, and James Earl Jones is reprising his role as Mufasa. We seriously can’t wait to hear what Glover and Bey do with the movie’s signature song, “Can You Feel the Love Tonight.”

Blue Ivy Is the Only Person Who Can Get Away With Telling Beyoncé to Calm Down


Bruno Mars and Ed Sheeran may have swept the 2018 Grammy Awards—for whatever reason—but the real winner of the evening was Blue Ivy, who showed up fashionably late with her famous mama, Beyoncé. The 6-year-old superstar-in-training sat between Bey and Jay Z the entire evening, delighting the Internet with hilarious expressions. Every time the camera panned to the Carter family, Miss Blue stole the show, which is quite a feat considering who her parents are.

Of all the moments from Sunday’s show, though, there’s one that’s (rightly) blowing up social media. Right after Kesha’s powerful #MeToo tribute, Camila Cabello took the stage to give a brief speech about immigrants. When she finished, Beyoncé and Jay Z gave her a warm applause, but they were interrupted by Blue, who seemingly told her parents to calm TF down.

You can see it in the video, below. As Bey and Jay Z are applauding, Blue gives them a funny look and gestures with her hands something akin to, “Alright, alright: enough applause.” It’s instantly iconic. Check it out:

So what does this mean? Is Blue actually a Fifth Harmony fan? Is she still salty about Cabello leaving the group? Is she the only person on this planet who isn’t a fan of “Havana?” Regardless, Bey and Jay did stop clapping when Blue told them to, confirming once and for all who the real head of their household is.
