Reese Witherspoon and Zendaya Are Partnering for an Amazing New Movie


Reese Witherspoon has made a habit over the past few years of picking female-centered projects. From Gone Girl to Wild to this year’s Emmy-winning smash Big Little Lies, Witherspoon is using her power in Hollywood to amplify women’s voices in front of and behind the camera, and we’re so here for that. Now Zendaya is adding to the girl power by collaborating with Witherspoon as a co-producer on an amazing new film—and she’ll star in it too.

Deadline reports that Witherspoon’s production company, Hello Sunshine, will produce a new psychological thriller, A White Lie. The movie’s based on the Karin Tanabe novel The Gilded Years and centers on a light-skinned black woman named Anita Hemmings (who will be played by—wait for it—Zendaya). Hemmings was the first black women to graduate from Vassar College in 1897—a time when African Americans weren’t allowed to attend the school. Hemmings passed as a white woman to get her degree.

The movie will show Hemmings fully immersing herself into upper-class New York society, where she’s treated as a wealthy white woman. She even finds romance with a rich Harvard student, but he doesn’t know her real identity (nor does anyone else). She has to keep it a secret—hence, ya know, the title.

This project seems like a perfect fit for Zendaya, who’s spoken candidly in the past about wanting to tell more black women’s stories. In fact, she echoed this sentiment at Glamour‘s Women of the Year Awards on Monday night, where she presented congresswoman Maxine Waters with a lifetime achievement award.

“Have you ever been the only woman in a room? What about the only black woman in a room? Our next honoree has reminded us over and over again when we are faced with the despair and defeating odds of that room, we can not allow it to intimidate us,” Zendaya said.

Khaleesi and Khal Drogo From 'Game of Thrones' Just Reunited IRL, and It's Amazing


For those of us who have followed Game of Thrones, the best character is obviously Daenerys Stormborn of the House Targaryen, First of Her Name, the Unburnt, Queen of the Andals and the First Men, Khaleesi of the Great Grass Sea, Breaker of Chains, and Mother of Dragons. Before Jon Snow, however, there was Khal Drogo, her husband in the first season. Of course, their relationship was problematic AF at the start, and she did wind up tearfully killing him, but it would take a whole lot more space and time than we have here to unpack all of that. But what we’re really excited about is that the two reunited in London for what seems to be like a few gins, and they took a picture together, and my god, his arms it’s basically perfection.

Of course we’re referring here not to actual Khaleesi and Khal Drogo, but to human counterparts Emilia Clarke and Jason Momoa (who, two days ago, married Cosby Show actress Lisa Bonet!).

Clarke captioned the post with a reference to Khaleesi’s Dothraki nickname for Drogo, and my cold, icy heart is melting.

This 100-percent wins the best celebrity caption contest, which we cannot confirm exists but would create just so she could win. It’s quickly added to by what is the best celebrity comment—which comes, of course, from Momoa.

Momoa also added to the joy with his own comment: “You are and will always be the Moon of my life. What an epic night I miss you always Aloha Drogo”

Jenna Dewan Tatum was also as excited as we are, chiming in with a “YESSSSSSSSSSSSSS”.

These two are rays of sunshine in a dark bar, and we are so here for the reunion. With the last season of Game of Thrones currently underway and filming across in Northern Ireland, we are very much hoping for a few more pics like this before production wraps. And after. Definitely after, too.

Lucy Hale Had an Amazing Response to This Body-Shaming Troll


Ah, Twitter: the one thing you can always count on—besides President Donald Trump using the platform as his own communications department—is trolls. So many trolls. They comment with spite and hostility on everything from politics to the weather to celebrity bodies. That last one, in particular, happens a lot—and this time, a Twitter user came for Lucy Hale with an unsolicited opinion about her body. Luckily, the Pretty Little Liars actress had the perfect response to put him in his place.

It should be apparent by now, in a culture where body positivity is on the rise, but body-shaming isn’t just about one end of the scale: some women deal with comments telling them they should eat more and “put some meat on those bones.” Either way, body-shaming can be triggering for someone who’s dealt with disordered eating—as is the case with Hale. In 2012, she talked about struggling with an eating disorder and body image issues, and she continues to fight her insecurities: take, for example, a picture of her and her dad she posted in June, where she called herself “fat” in the comments section. Hey, we all have insecurities—but it’s not for others to police our bodies and make them worse. (“Sometimes we can be our own worst enemy,” Hale later responded when the inevitable backlash hit.)

So: on Friday, Hale posted this pic of her with a quote from Poltergeist.

And then TEDDY FORTE (his caps, not ours) came along:

Hale, however, was quick to shut him down:

After he responded with a sarcastic “Neat,” followed by a thumbs-up emoji and related GIF—you know, because human empathy wasn’t an option for him—she came back with a snappier see-ya:

TEDDY FORTE then started bullying another user who had come to Hale’s defense (“Got no come back so you send a gif,” he replied to FORTE’s comment), and Hale encouraged him to block the troll for good:

Twitter users also spoke out against TEDDY FORTE, and made some very valid points—including the reminder that you’re not obligated to look a certain way in order to please someone.

Importantly, Hale’s response also empowered other Twitter users.

Don’t let the bastards grind you down, Hale.
