Lucy Hale's Favorite Leggings Are $98 and ‘Feel Like Pajamas’

Lucy Hale is feeling really lucky these days. Unlike many other series, Hale’s CW show Katy Keene wrapped filming its first season in New York City before the coronavirus pandemic hit. (Doesn’t that feel like a lifetime ago?) “So many shows are on hold right now, and the state of them is unknown,” Hale says from her home in Los Angeles, where she’s quarantining with her dog, Elvis. So in these times of uncertainty, she’s happy that her fashion-forward, music-filled dramedy can provide some reprieve for viewers who are feeling fatigue with the constant stream of bad news. “I feel like more people are watching it now because they need an escape. It’s the polar opposite of what’s happening.”

So while Hale entertains us, what’s entertaining her? Well, let’s just say her skincare routine and Postmates habit are keeping her plenty occupied.

My fave dish to cook at home

I’m not much of a chef, but my favorite meal in general—and my favorite meal to cook—is bolognese. My friend has a secret family recipe, which includes one really bizarre ingredient that you’d never expect. I can’t share it—she’d kill me—but I made it last week and was pretty proud of myself. This is actually the only meal I’ve cooked since all of this started. You’d think I’d be cooking a lot, but I’m keeping Postmates in business.

The best book I’ve read recently

Where the Crawdads Sing by Delia Owens. I’m in the middle of it right now, and it’s absolutely beautiful.

My go-to app

Outside of Instagram, which we all love, there’s an app called The Pattern. It’s astrology-based but also focuses on the phases of the world. I’m big into spirituality and energy. The Pattern has daily updates for you and shows what’s going on in the world. The accuracy is insane—it’s almost creepy at times.

The fashion trend from the early 2000s that I miss the most

I was really into Limited Too. Remember those tiny little shirts that would stretch out? I was really into those, stretchy chokers, butterfly clips, and anything sparkly and bright.

The reality show I can’t stop watching

At the moment, it’s Love Is Blind, along with everyone else in the world. It’s just so ridiculous; I sit there in awe. I haven’t finished it yet—I’ve started ten shows these days. I need to finish them and quit starting new ones.

My fave feel-good song

The new Dua Lipa album is really amazing. Every song on it makes me happy. There’s a song on there called “Cool” that’s really good, but the whole album gives me good feelings.

The fragrance I always use

Molecule—it’s unisex and smells a little bit different on everyone because it mixes with your pheromones. It’s the one I always get compliments on, so I always go back to it. I’ve been wearing it for the last few years. It’s my go-to.

The last thing I bought

I’ve been going crazy on Amazon and just bought a skincare fridge! It’s a mini fridge that stays in the bathroom, and it’s where I keep my face masks. I’m losing my mind and am just buying things I don’t need.

The self-care products I’m using

I love a good sheet mask. Every morning, I wake up, make myself a cup of coffee, and I put on a sheet mask, even though I have nowhere to go and no one to see. It makes me feel normal. I love the 111SKIN masks. They are amazing. I found out about them from Amazon—it’s where I hear about everything. [Laughs]

The beauty tip I swear by

On Katy Keene, we would put jade rollers in the fridge, and every morning, we would detox our face with them. It feels like putting ice cubes on your face. We also kept eye patches in the fridge. You better believe mine are in my mini fridge now. I don’t know how I ever lived without it.

My favorite workout

SoulCycle. I like spinning a lot and really miss it. I have a Peloton treadmill, so I’ve been taking different classes on that and it’s been getting me by.

The romantic comedy I always watch

There are so many, but probably How to Lose A Guy in 10 Days. I love the chemistry between Kate Hudson and Matthew McConaughey. It’s one that I keep going back to and I feel really nostalgic when I watch it.

Lucy Hale’s show, Katy Keene, airs on Thursdays at 8 P.M. ET on The CW.

Lucy Flores Spoke Out About Joe Biden to Prove That Women’s Feelings Have Value

Lucy Flores once encouraged me to come forward after a man acted inappropriately toward me. Your experience matters, she explained. Let him know he was inappropriate—and help women in the same situations feel less alone.

I chose not to come forward, for some of the same reasons that so many women stay silent. But I was struck by her crystal-clear insistence that what happened to me and how I felt about it was important—and I’m blown away by her courage today.

Last week Flores published an essay that described how former Vice President Joe Biden touched her shoulders and kissed her on the back of the head at a 2014 campaign event, and explained how he made her feel “uneasy, gross, and confused.”

In my experience, and in her more recent revelation about Biden, Flores had the tenacity to say: These men make us feel uncomfortable. Their hands. Their lips. Their breath. I felt embarrassed. I felt my space invaded.

And in her decision to come forward about, Flores is stating loudly: Women’s feelings matter.

Flores’ bravery goes beyond speaking out against inappropriate men. She has the courage to claim that her feelings are worth equal consideration. Imagine: a woman of color, with the nerve to assert that her feelings are just as important as a powerful white man.

It’s enough to shake the foundations of our country.

The absurd response to Flores’ revelation—from Biden, his supporters, and the inevitable brigade of defensive white men—has been entirely focused on Biden’s feelings. You see, they explain, Biden felt the situation was perfectly appropriate. First Biden’s spokesperson provided Biden’s assessment of Flores’s comfort: “Neither then, nor in the years since, did he or the staff with him at the time have an inkling that Ms. Flores had been at any time uncomfortable.” Then Biden himself expressed his own complete comfort with the situation: “Not once—never—did I believe I acted inappropriately.” And most recently Biden’s allies explained that Biden’s goal was Flores’ comfort and relaxation: “He often drew close to people who were nervous in an effort to relax them.”

Built into this stream of defenses is the assertion that Biden’s feelings of comfort and appropriateness should negate Flores’ feelings of discomfort and unease. If Biden was comfortable, the rationale seems to go, if his goal was to make her feel good, then nothing else matters.

Setting aside Biden’s intent, his line of defense speaks volumes. In our society, a man’s level of comfort is more important than a woman’s unease. We live in a world where a man can defend himself by merely explaining, “Felt fine to me!”

In the week since Flores spoke up, numerous former aides have also stepped forward to say they felt completely comfortable around Biden—as if their experiences negate her own. Former staffer Kendra Barkoff Lamy tweeted, “I was never uncomfortable with how he treated me.” Former chief of staff Sheila Nix reiterated Biden’s claim that “he had no intention of making anyone feel uncomfortable.” Even MSNBC’s Mika Brzezinski chimed in, “I don’t think there is bad intent on his part at all.”

The conversation around Lucy Flores is not a debate over what happened on that stage. Even Biden himself doesn’t deny it. Instead Flores is forcing us to look in the mirror as a country and think: Whose feelings matter? Why is the pain and discomfort of women, and especially women of color, so often dismissed? Flores has the temerity to demand that men consider the comfort of others as much as they consider their own. She is asking men who have always touched women’s backs, thighs, shoulders, and waists how that might make us feel.

Lucy Hale Just Got Real About the Importance of Putting Yourself First

Once upon a time, I had a boss who gave me some advice that’s stuck with me over the years. Basically, she said, the idea of work-life balance just doesn’t wind up being feasible: It divides life into work or not-work and doesn’t account for other directions life pulls you, like the energy you put your relationship with your S.O., with your family, with your friends, and with yourself. Instead, she told me, think of these energy-pulling factors like cars hooked to a train engine: Life is a constant series of decisions about which one to put first, and that’s going to change week to week or even hour to hour. Too often, though—as it had with me the day she dished that advice—the train car for ourselves becomes the caboose, and it stays there for way too long. Pretty Little Liars star Lucy Hale, who I’m sure has a lot on her plate, seemed to be feeling that way too recently—and opened up about just how necessary it is to put yourself first sometimes.

In an Instagram post taken against a gorgeous blue sky on Friday, Hale wrote that she’d been struggling to find time for herself. “Disclaimer : this is a long caption,” she began. “For the last week I took a solo trip to Arizona. (FYI -if you want to feel spiritually recharged, Come here.) I spent my days hiking, meditating, and spending time with myself. I’ve never done this before because I used to feel that putting myself first was selfish. It’s not. Not only is it healthy, but it’s necessary so that you can be the best for everyone else around you. I know this happens in other industries other than the one I’m in, but it’s incredibly easy to get sucked into the vortex of worrying about the next job, the success of a current one and what others think of you. This trip was a beautiful reminder that my health and happiness are crucial to the life I want to live and in order to be the best for my career and my loved ones, it’s necessary to do really nice things for yourself. SO, I highly recommend treating your mind, body and spirit right ( and taking a solo getaway). Thank you Arizona, I feel so refreshed ??”

Of course, we’re not all successful actresses with piles of emergency-holiday money, but she has a point: There is absolutely nothing wrong with putting yourself first in whatever way is feasible for you. Whether that involves turning down plans with friends when you’re stretched too thin or simply taking 15 minutes to read before you start your day, tending to your own needs and care is beyond important. And Lucy’s right: There’s absolutely nothing selfish about it.

After all, as unofficial life counselor RuPaul frequently reminds us, “If you can’t love yourself, how the HELL you gonna love somebody else?”

Lucy Hale's New Horror Movie Looks Scarier Than Every Episode of 'Pretty Little Liars'

Pretty Little Liars wasn’t a scary TV show, but it did have its creepy moments. Remember the time Aria (Lucy Hale) was covered in rats? Or the time Emily was almost sawed in half? Plus, there’s the fact that Spencer’s evil British twin was pulling the strings for the entire series—like, who the hell saw that coming? For all its campy one-liners and humorous moments, PLL did manage to make us jump every now and then.

But the show pales in comparison to Hale’s new horror movie, Truth or Dare, which hits theaters in April. It centers on a group of very hot young people—including Hale and Teen Wolf star Tyler Posey—who are tricked into playing a game of “Truth or Dare” that actually comes to life. The game literally starts following them after they play one round, and the stakes increase astronomically: If they don’t tell the truth or complete the dare each time, they die. It sounds strange, I know, but it’s executed with enough of a diabolical wink that it works. Well, that’s what this just-released trailer suggests, at least. Watch it for yourself, below:

Yeesh, imagine if the Pretty Little Liars gals had to play this game. They’d all die! All they did for seven straight seasons was lie, lie, lie. And there’s no way Hanna (Ashley Benson) would do a crazy dare. She’d scoff and walk away like the queen she is. (Can you tell that I miss Pretty Little Liars?)

Truth or Dare is slated for an April 27, 2018 release. I’m never playing this game again.

Lucy Hale Had an Amazing Response to This Body-Shaming Troll

Ah, Twitter: the one thing you can always count on—besides President Donald Trump using the platform as his own communications department—is trolls. So many trolls. They comment with spite and hostility on everything from politics to the weather to celebrity bodies. That last one, in particular, happens a lot—and this time, a Twitter user came for Lucy Hale with an unsolicited opinion about her body. Luckily, the Pretty Little Liars actress had the perfect response to put him in his place.

It should be apparent by now, in a culture where body positivity is on the rise, but body-shaming isn’t just about one end of the scale: some women deal with comments telling them they should eat more and “put some meat on those bones.” Either way, body-shaming can be triggering for someone who’s dealt with disordered eating—as is the case with Hale. In 2012, she talked about struggling with an eating disorder and body image issues, and she continues to fight her insecurities: take, for example, a picture of her and her dad she posted in June, where she called herself “fat” in the comments section. Hey, we all have insecurities—but it’s not for others to police our bodies and make them worse. (“Sometimes we can be our own worst enemy,” Hale later responded when the inevitable backlash hit.)

So: on Friday, Hale posted this pic of her with a quote from Poltergeist.

And then TEDDY FORTE (his caps, not ours) came along:

Hale, however, was quick to shut him down:

After he responded with a sarcastic “Neat,” followed by a thumbs-up emoji and related GIF—you know, because human empathy wasn’t an option for him—she came back with a snappier see-ya:

TEDDY FORTE then started bullying another user who had come to Hale’s defense (“Got no come back so you send a gif,” he replied to FORTE’s comment), and Hale encouraged him to block the troll for good:

Twitter users also spoke out against TEDDY FORTE, and made some very valid points—including the reminder that you’re not obligated to look a certain way in order to please someone.

Importantly, Hale’s response also empowered other Twitter users.

Don’t let the bastards grind you down, Hale.
