Chrissy Teigen Had the Best Response to People Body-Shaming Her New Bathing Suit Video

Many things in life have changed lately, but not Chrissy Teigen’s online presence. Whether she’s talking about life at home with John Legend and their two children, Luna and Miles, or confronting body-shamers online, the Cravings author always keeps it real. And what happened on April 26 is no exception.

That’s when Teigen posted a video of herself in a black bathing suit and joked, “Don’t get too trapped,” referencing the fine online art of posting thirst trap images. But the world being what it is, some of the responses were less than kind about her body. “Shaped like sponge bob lol,” one person tweeted. Another wrote, “Boobs are sagging.”

Some people seemed to think she shouldn’t be posting bathing suit shots at all because…she’s married? “Didn’t know you were a porn star. Yuck. Is this how you want to be seen? I bet hubby loves it but please leave it for him only,” one person commented.

Thankfully, many of her fans came to Teigen’s defense and started calling out the harsh commenters. Then, in true Teigen style, she just went ahead and took matters into her own hands. “Everyone used to….surgically enhanced curves. I’ve been a square my whole life and let me tell you, it’s paid off nicely in many ways!” she quote-tweeted, and added, “Imagine if one day I showed up with hips and an ass. Ooooo you guys would be pissed then too! I’m happy, John’s happy, we all happy and doing a-okay!”

Jameela Jamil chimed in, writing, “I loved the video. Didn’t see a shape. Just saw fire” to which Teigen responded, “Thank u 🙁 I’ve gotten used to my right angle bod, you’d think people have seen it enough that it doesn’t shock them anymore but nope lol.” The rest of the replies were also filled with lots of positivity.

We love you just as you are, Chrissy Teigen. Please never change.

Camila Cabello Just Powerfully Clapped Back at Body-Shaming Trolls on Instagram

Camila Cabello is not going to let body-shamers get to her. On Saturday, the pop singer wrote an emotional but sharply worded post on her Instagram Stories, shutting down people who had taken it upon themselves to point out her cellulite in photos. For them, she had a clear message: “Cellulite is normal.”

The former Fifth Harmony member explained that she’s been taking time off of social media to avoid things that hurt her feelings, but she’d made a rare visit to her Instagram account to post a picture about the two-year anniversary of her hit solo single, “Havana.” When she began looking at the platform, she noticed that there was a headline about people body-shaming her and said she immediately felt insecure imagining what photos had led to all the negativity.

Cabello has been the subject of tons of paparazzi photos lately, as rumors have emerged that she’s dating her friend and frequent music collaborator Shawn Mendes. However, she quickly realized that regardless of what photos of her are circulating out there, she shouldn’t feel conscious.

“Honestly first thing I felt was super insecure just IMAGINING what these pictures must look like, oh no! My cellulite! Oh no! I didn’t suck in my stomach!” Cabello write. “But then I was like… of course there are bad pictures, of course there are bad angles, my body’s not made of fucking rock, or all muscle, for that matter, but the saddest part of young girls growing up in an airbrushed world is they’re seeking a perfection that’s not real.”

“I’m writing this for girls like my little sister who are growing up on social media,” she wrote. “They’re constantly seeing photoshopped, edited pictures and thinking that’s reality, and everyone’s eyes get used to seeing airbrushed skin, and suddenly they think THAT’S the norm. ?!!! It isn’t. It’s fake. AND FAKE IS BECOMING THE NEW REAL. We have a completely unrealistic view of a woman’s body. Girls, cellulite is normal, fat is normal. It’s beautiful and natural. I won’t buy into bullshit today!”

She signed off strongly: “I won’t buy into the bullshit today!!!! Not today Satan. And I hope you don’t either.”

Busy Philipps Just Used Grammar to Shut Down a Body-Shaming Troll

Body-shamers just never learn. There are countless examples out there of celebrities and non-celebs alike shutting down their social media harassers with excellent comebacks. And yet, one troll still had the bright idea to make fun of Busy Philipps’ body on Tuesday (August 21).

Here’s how it all went down: On Tuesday morning, the actress uploaded a photo of herself in workout gear on a trampoline for a good cause. “Today is #TheAwesomeChallenge and my workout every morning makes me feel awesome (even on the days when I’d rather stay in bed, like today) For every post using #TheAwesomeChallenge @RocketsofAwesome will donate back-to-school clothing to a @Baby2Baby child in need. Let’s do this! TAG 3 FRIENDS!” she wrote in the caption, before tagging Jen Gotch, Tess Holliday, Kelly Oxford, Sophia Bush, and Michelle Monaghan.

Rather than following instructions and doing the “Awesome Challenge,” however, one Instagram user felt the need to comment on Philipps’ body instead. “Ughhhh, you’re rolls are showing,” he wrote, as captured by the ever-vigilant @commentsbycelebs. Big mistake. Huge. The troll soon found himself on the receiving end of a scorched-earth grammar lesson, courtesy of Philipps herself.

“I feel like a man of your age should know the difference between YOUR and YOU’RE,” Philipps wrote, according to @commentsbycelebs. “YOUR is POSSESSIVE, as in ‘YOUR rolls are showing.’ (Get it? The rolls BELONG to me.) YOU’RE is an abbreviation for YOU ARE, as in YOU’RE CLEARLY AN A**HOLE BODYSHAMING LOSER. ✌️”

It goes without saying that body-shaming is never OK. But in this case, especially, this person really, really should’ve known better. Not only does Philipps have a documented history of live-outing creeps on social media, but she’s taken on body-shamers before.

“You know how when you’re a woman, sometimes people feel like they should be able to comment about your body all the time or make laws about your body?” she said on Instagram stories back in November, according to People. “Well when you’re an actress, or any female in the public eye, everyone feels that they can comment on your body all the f*cking time. Always. The amount of people in my long, 20-year career in this industry who’ve come up to me in grocery stores and Bed Bath and Beyonds to talk with people about my weight…I think it’s a good thing to err on the side of ‘Let’s not talk to people about their bodies unless they bring it up first and they want to talk about their bodies.'”

Agreed. There are better things to do…like brushing up on your grammar.

Busy Philipps Is So Over This Fan's Body-Shaming, Backhanded Compliment

One might think after the year we’ve been having that everyone would have learned by now that it’s absolutely not OK to offer unsolicited comments on another person’s body—especially when it comes to their weight. Unfortunately, as actress Busy Philipps experienced recently, it appears we still have a long way to go before people realize that other people’s bodies are none of their business.

Philipps took to Instagram Stories on Friday night to share an uncomfortable encounter she had with a fan while running errands at Rite Aid. A female fan recognized Philipps from her hit show Cougar Town and approached her to say hi.

“She was so sweet and had such a calming manner—and in a loveliest way, she said, ‘You’ve lost some of your plumpness from Cougar Town. You look nice still, but you’ve lost some of your plumpness,'” said Philipps, according to People.

Philipps brushed off the woman’s backhanded compliment, telling the woman she was glad she liked the show before moving on. But still, the fan’s comment bothered her. “It was a compliment,” she said. “She was very sweet when she said it. It just was an interesting choice of [words]. I don’t think I was plump.”

Philips is not alone in being body-shamed: Celebs like Lucy Hale, Lady Gaga, Jennifer Aniston, Rihanna, and Beyoncé have all been on the receiving end of similarly unsolicited comments about their body.

At one point, Philipps wondered if the woman had been watching the season of Cougar Town Philipps filmed just five weeks after giving birth to her daughter Cricket. “This is how my brain works,” she said. “I’m going to be thinking about this for the next … whatever.” Which is just so unfair: Philipps won a critics’ choice award for her acting on that show and this is what she’s going to think about when she thinks about that job?

She points out that there is a better way to handle these situations without offending the person on the receiving end of the comment. “There’s a difference between saying to someone, ‘You look amazing!’ ‘You look great,’” said Philipps. This woman didn’t do that; instead, she added an asterisk with the “but.” Which is why, Philipps points out, one should always err on the side of not saying anything at all.

“You know how when you’re a woman, sometimes people feel like they should be able to comment about your body all the time or make laws about your body?” she said. “Well when you’re an actress, or any female in the public eye, everyone feels that they can comment on your body all the f—— time. Always. The amount of people in my long, 20-year career in this industry who’ve come up to me in grocery stores and Bed Bath and Beyonds to talk with people about my weight … I think it’s a good thing to err on the side of ‘Let’s not talk to people about their bodies unless they bring it up first and they want to talk about their bodies.'”

Moral of this story? Don’t be a busybody about Busy’s body—or anyone else’s.

Lucy Hale Had an Amazing Response to This Body-Shaming Troll

Ah, Twitter: the one thing you can always count on—besides President Donald Trump using the platform as his own communications department—is trolls. So many trolls. They comment with spite and hostility on everything from politics to the weather to celebrity bodies. That last one, in particular, happens a lot—and this time, a Twitter user came for Lucy Hale with an unsolicited opinion about her body. Luckily, the Pretty Little Liars actress had the perfect response to put him in his place.

It should be apparent by now, in a culture where body positivity is on the rise, but body-shaming isn’t just about one end of the scale: some women deal with comments telling them they should eat more and “put some meat on those bones.” Either way, body-shaming can be triggering for someone who’s dealt with disordered eating—as is the case with Hale. In 2012, she talked about struggling with an eating disorder and body image issues, and she continues to fight her insecurities: take, for example, a picture of her and her dad she posted in June, where she called herself “fat” in the comments section. Hey, we all have insecurities—but it’s not for others to police our bodies and make them worse. (“Sometimes we can be our own worst enemy,” Hale later responded when the inevitable backlash hit.)

So: on Friday, Hale posted this pic of her with a quote from Poltergeist.

And then TEDDY FORTE (his caps, not ours) came along:

Hale, however, was quick to shut him down:

After he responded with a sarcastic “Neat,” followed by a thumbs-up emoji and related GIF—you know, because human empathy wasn’t an option for him—she came back with a snappier see-ya:

TEDDY FORTE then started bullying another user who had come to Hale’s defense (“Got no come back so you send a gif,” he replied to FORTE’s comment), and Hale encouraged him to block the troll for good:

Twitter users also spoke out against TEDDY FORTE, and made some very valid points—including the reminder that you’re not obligated to look a certain way in order to please someone.

Importantly, Hale’s response also empowered other Twitter users.

Don’t let the bastards grind you down, Hale.

Former Miss Universe Alicia Machado Claps Back at Body-Shaming Trolls

Can we give this former beauty queen another crown, please?

It appears Donald Trump isn’t the only person body-shaming former Miss Universe winner Alicia Machado. The actor, singer, and TV host also has an army of trolls to deal with online. But don’t worry—she knows how to deal with them.

Rude commenters came after Machado on Instagram a few days ago, after she posted a photo of herself at the Premios Tu Mundo award show. Amid positive comments like “hermosa como siempre” (“beautiful as always”) and “siempre sera para mi una miss universo” (“you’ll always be Miss Universe to me”), there were messages like “the extra pounds are noticeable” and “you’re overweight in my opinion”—as if anyone asked.

But not only is Machado perfectly happy with her weight—she’s actually looking to put on more pounds, she told the commenters.

“Yes, and I still have another five pounds more to gain to appear even fatter for the next character that I will be playing,” she wrote.

Machado is a seasoned expert at dealing with haters by now. She entered the national spotlight last fall, when then-candidate Hillary Clinton called out Trump for body-shaming her. Trump owned the Miss Universe pageant in 1996, the year Machado won, and he said some horrible things about her afterward, claiming she’d gained 40 pounds and pressuring her to lose them. He even went to a hotel gym in New York with reporters from 90 media outlets to watch her work out. Machado said in a Clinton campaign video that he called her “Miss Piggy” and “Miss Housekeeping,” ostensibly referencing her Venezuelan heritage.

Fortunately, it looks like Machado hasn’t let anyone’s body-shaming—not any Instagram troll’s, and definitely not Trump’s—stop her from looking the way she wants.
