Here's Why Kim Kardashian Is Calling Out Fast-Fashion Sites on Twitter

Over the weekend Kim Kardashian West attended the Hollywood Beauty Awards in Los Angeles in a barely there vintage Thierry Mugler gown. The dress, from the house’s spring 1998 haute couture collection, had people talking online. (A sampling of headlines: “Kim Kardashian Wore the Sexiest/Craziest Dress Ever and Was THIS Close to Having a Nip Slip,” “Kim Kardashian Wore Her Most Revealing Dress Yet and Twitter Is Shook,” “Kim Kardashian Debuts Her Most Shocking Dress Yet (and Avoids a Wardrobe Malfunction).”) And within hours it had been knocked off.

By Monday, shoppers could go on Fashion Nova’s website and purchase the “Winning Beauty Cut Out Gown,” a black maxi featuring cutouts and slits similar to those on Kardashian West’s Mugler dress. Its product description doesn’t reference her or her look, but it still sold out. (There’s an option to join a waiting list.)

Hollywood To You/Star Max

Fashion Nova, often referred to as a retailer for the Instagram age, releases merchandise at an incredibly fast pace and promotes it on influencers ranging from Cardi B to Kylie Jenner and Kourtney Kardashian. Over the years it’s been accused of ripping off designers on multiple occasions, some instances more brazen than others: Never forget how it re-created Jenner’s twenty-first-birthday outfits and put them up for purchase on its site within hours of her party.

The timing of Fashion Nova’s latest Kardashian-inspired release—which theoretically involved designing a dress, making a sample, and photographing a model wearing it before putting it on its e-commerce—raised some eyebrows. Shortly after the dress appeared online, the fashion watchdog Instagram account Diet Prada shared its own theory as to how FashionNova was able to turn it around so quickly: Could it have gotten a tip from Kardashian West herself?

Diet Prada based its speculation on an Instagram Story from a reported Fashion Nova e-commerce model, Yodit Yemane, in which she shares images of the “Winning Beauty Cut Out Gown” on February 14, days before Kardashian West would wear the vintage Mugler dress. So Diet Prada asked its 1.1 million Instagram followers: “Did Fashion Nova whip up the dress overnight in their Los Angeles atelier after seeing Kim in it or is she peddling her vintage finds to mass retailers ahead of debuting them for a calculated, timely release?” (Diet Prada wasn’t available to comment for this story.)

Kardashian West herself responded to that question on Tuesday. In a series of tweets, the reality star and businesswoman addressed allegations that she cooperated with Fashion Nova to replicate her looks, saying that she’s “not leaking my looks to anyone”—and that it’s “devastating” to see the designer pieces she wears knocked off at any retailer.

“Only two days ago, I was privileged enough to wear a one-of-a-kind vintage Mugler dress, and in less than 24 hours it was knocked off and thrown up on a site,” she said. “This is a way to get people to sign up for their mailing list and make people believe there is some kind of relationship between me and this fashion site. There is not.”

Kardashian West contextualized her remarks in past accusations against Fashion Nova of copying Yeezy, her husband Kanye West’s label: “I’ve watched these companies profit off my husband’s work for years, and now that it’s also affecting designers who have been so generous to give me access to their beautiful works, I can no longer sit silent.”

She ended the thread by explaining how she’ll often plan outfits months in advance—and setting designers up to be copied would only undermine them. “I’m not leaking my looks to anyone, and I don’t support what these companies are doing,” she wrote.

When asked to comment, a representative for Fashion Nova told Glamour that the brand has not been in contact with Kardashian West, nor did it intentionally copy her dress.

Kelly Clarkson Covered 'Shallow,' and Twitter Is Rightfully Going Wild

Kelly Clarkson is known for her incredible covers, but her latest might just be her best one yet. During her Meaning of Life tour show in Green Bay, Wisconsin on Friday, February 15, the singer took on Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper‘s smash-hit “Shallow” from their Oscar-nominated movie, A Star Is Born—and her rendition will give you straight-up chills.

Clarkson’s no stranger to an incredible live performance or a good cover—she’s covered everyone from Adele to Rihanna—but this performance was something else. Clarkson introduced the song by praising Gaga and sharing how much she appreciates her as an artist.

“I love artists. I know there’s a lot of competition always with artists in the industry, but there’s a lot of us that just dig each other and really get inspired by each other and what they’re doing,” she told the audience. “And this chick is amazing. We’re really different, but at the same time, we’re really similar in the fact that she just loves music, and that’s why she’s doing what she’s doing.”

Clarkson then told the crowd a story about the time Gaga wrote Clarkson a handwritten letter to thank her for performing together. “She was the nicest human being ever. Her name is Lady Gaga,” she said. “It’s so cool to know that someone that talented is so nice.”

Watch Clarkson’s stunning “Shallow” cover below:

Twitter is obviously going nuts over her rendition, with some calling it their favorite “Shallow” cover.

Meanwhile, others called it a “holy experience” and a “masterpiece.”

“Nothing is better than a @kelly_clarkson cover,” one person tweeted.

“Been needing a good Shallow cover song in my life and @kelly_clarkson did it. I think u did @ladygaga justice,” another wrote.

“Her version makes me fall in love with this song even more,” another fan added.

Safe to say we now have two versions of the hit to play on loop.

Brad Pitt Showed Up to Jennifer Aniston's 50th Birthday Party, and Twitter Freaked Out

If there’s anyone who deserves to throw a hell of a 50th birthday party, it’s Jennifer Aniston: She’s a huge star, defined cool American style—and she’s put up with years of straight-up rude headlines, whether they were Brangelina adjacent or asking once again when she’d have kids (she’s happily child-free). Aniston, of course, also happened to be married to Pitt from 2000 to 2005, and it’s something people kind of can’t let go of. Two years after Brangelina split in 2016, Aniston broke up with husband Justin Theroux last February, which has sparked all sorts of “rekindling the romance” headlines. All this to say, she puts up with a lot as she lives her life—and nothing says “50 will be my best year yet” like a headline-making West Hollywood hotel rager.

It was reportedly an actual who’s who of a guest list: George and Amal Clooney, Gwyneth Paltrow, Kate Hudson, Katy Perry, Ellen DeGeneres, Demi Moore, Barbra Streisand, Jon Hamm, Laura Dern, Charlie Day, Orlando Bloom, Tom Ford, Diane Keaton, John Mayer, Keith Richards, Reese Witherspoon—basically everyone you’d want to invite to your iconic milestone celebration. I mean, everyone in Hollywood turned out. What we might not have expected, though, is that Brad would show up to it.

Pictures exist of Jen wearing a black jumpsuit (gotta love a good party jumpsuit), while Brad was reportedly doing his usual newsboy cap and long hair thing. The back of his head, the one true Pitt sighting captured from the night, can be viewed here. Here’s what else we know, which is not much: According to W, “He arrived in a black SUV and was dropped off at the front door of the hotel. Literally nothing else has been made public.”

Speaking as someone who’s happily, platonically friends—super-close friends, even—with her ex, it is entirely possible that two people who once dated can still see each other as people at the end of all of it and hang out. After all, hopefully you were dating them in part because they were a good, fun person. I personally think it’s very nice that he showed up!

Twitter, needless to say, had some thoughts.

There was outright GIF glee:

A lot of wishing for once was:

Some using their powers of clairvoyance way too early:

And some people pointing out the obvious, because it’s Hollywood, and everyone’s hot, and the dating pool is only so big:

Also there was this voice of reason, embodied by a purple heart as big as its soul:

Anyway, I hope Aniston wished for everyone to leave her alone about this this year as she blew out the candles. Happy birthday, you icon.

Women Are Sharing Pics of Their 'Food Babies' on Twitter

Food is delicious—and sometimes, it happens to trigger bloating in the stomach. There’s no shame in a “food baby,” as the effect is often nicknamed, but it’s not something we normally see talked about on social media. Considering that’s how we consume most images we see, though, it can make a food baby feel like a solitary experience. But let’s be real: It’s a relatable moment for many women—one of whom kicked off a huge stream of responses on Twitter over the weekend.

It began when London-based influencer Fatimah Waheeb sparked an online discussion after posting a photo of her “food baby” on Twitter with the caption, “i can’t be the only one that gets extremely bloated and starts imagining myself being pregnant??”

She then encouraged others to do the same. “If you do have bloated pics post them in the thread looool,” Waheeb wrote.

“I had just finished eating a bunch of wasabi while watching anime and I realized how bloated I was, and I thought it would be funny to share how bloated women can get,” she told Buzzfeed News. “I wasn’t that surprised because I know if I get extremely bloated loads of other women would too and it’s nice to know other women get as bloated as I do and pretend to be pregnant!”

She also posted a pic sans bloat because, of course, some trolls were asking her if she was actually pregnant.

The responses to her original post were as heartwarming as you’d expect. Because really, who among us hasn’t been there? For these women, seeing Waheeb’s post—and sharing about theirs—helps normalizes a common experience.

Waheeb loved the responses, tweeting, “I love the replies!! i’m so glad bloating is normalised, fuck anyone that said my bloating wasn’t normal lmao it very much is.”

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez Will Teach Democrats How to Do Twitter

With great engagement comes great responsibility.

Just over two weeks after she was sworn in, freshman congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is slated to hold a session for her fellow representatives to teach them how to tweet this week. The House Democratic Policy and Communications Committee has extended an invitation to AOC—as she’s known to her 2.42 million Twitter followers—to show her new peers how social media can be used “as an effective and authentic…tool” to connect with Americans in their districts and nationwide, as first reported on CNN.

Of course, Ocasio-Cortez took to (what else) Twitter to confirm the news and added that the seminar would be held ASAP.

Earlier this week Axios reported that Ocasio-Cortez has generated more interactions online (which it defined as retweets plus likes) than CNN, ABC, MSNBC, NBC, and the New York Times combined in the previous month. She also outstripped former President Barack Obama, who scored 4.4 million interactions compared to her 11.8 million.

So formidable is her social media prowess that Politico reported earlier this month that some Democrats have kept their criticism of her private, “fearful that she’ll sic her massive following on them by firing off a tweet.” Perhaps Democrats could stand to be more afraid of, for example, climate change than a mean tweet. But! That’s a conversation for another time.

For now it seems her fellow Democrats have come to the correct conclusion: If you can’t beat ’em, RT ’em.

Ever since she defeated a 10-term incumbent over the summer to win the Democratic nomination in her district, Ocasio-Cortez has used Twitter to respond to controversies and criticisms, like an op-ed from former Senator Joe Lieberman in which he said he hoped she was not the future of the Democrats. (That is the same Joe Lieberman who spoke at the 2008 Republican National Convention, so.) In a tweet, Ocasio-Cortez fired back.

And when a video of Ocasio-Cortez dancing while she was still an undergraduate went viral (and was met with criticism from conservatives who claimed it showed her to be unserious), she responded with a fresh clip of her…dancing in front of her new office. “I hear the GOP thinks women dancing are scandalous,” she tweeted. “Wait till they find out Congresswomen dance too!” The 11-second video was rewarded with over 20.5 million views.

Ocasio-Cortez has also amassed close to 2 million Instagram followers and now uses the platform to discuss policies over livestreamed Instant Pot mac-and-cheese prep and to take users inside the congressional process, explaining how offices are chosen, bills are passed, and where all the tunnels under the congressional floor lead.

But hours before Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s lesson (which representatives from Twitter will attend), some anecdotal evidence seemed to suggest that even her counterparts in the Senate had started to learn from her example, no formal curriculum required. After rapper and political pundit Cardi B took to Instagram to denounce the government shutdown with excellent context and her own particular spin, Senators Brian Schatz (D-Hawaii), Chris Murphy (D-Conn.) and Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) gave followers a peek inside their debate over whether or not to share Cardi’s comments.

Users noted AOC’s evident influence, but weren’t quite sure how to process its impact.

Class dissed and dismissed.

Carrie Underwood Just Got Real About Pregnancy Insomnia on Twitter

Sleeping while pregnant isn’t easy—just ask the 78 percent of moms-to-be in the United States who experience pregnancy insomnia. Carrie Underwood just revealed that she’s currently dealing with pregnancy insomnia in a series of tweets—and they’re nothing short of relatable.

On Friday (December 21), Underwood was up early with a Twitter letter to her pregnancy insomnia. She was rightfully annoyed with the sleep she’s lost while carrying her second child. “Dear pregnancy insomnia,” she wrote in a tweet published at 1:29 A.M. EST. “Please go bother someone else…like dads. Go bother dads. My husband sleeps so soundly and peacefully and I’ve been awake for 2 hours (so far). How is this fair? Imma lose my mind!”

Fellow moms and moms-to-be on Twitter chimed in with their own stories about pregnancy insomnia and their support for the singer. As if carrying a baby for nine months weren’t hard enough, several women also shared that they also lost sleep during their pregnancies.

Underwood followed up on her original tweet with an update sharing a little sleep-deprivation-induced behavior. While she couldn’t sleep, she went on an online beauty product shopping spree—with a grand total of around $600. (In her defense, there’s a lot of great holiday gift sets at Sephora right now.)

Fellow country singer Maren Morris could relate.

Underwood is currently expecting her second child with husband Mark Fisher, which she revealed the pregnancy in a video on her Instagram account earlier this year. Difficulties like pregnancy insomnia aside, Underwood said in an interview with CBS Sunday Morning that the family is excited to welcome its newest member—especially her 2-year-old son, Isaiah. “He’ll be really sweet and talk to my belly and kiss my belly. He’s the sweetest little boy,” she said. “But no kid can really know that their life is going to change…. He’ll have to share Mommy.”
