A New *Game of Thrones* Fan Theory Suggests Daenerys Is Still Alive


Warning: Major spoilers ahead!

Any Game of Thrones fan who, for the past eight years, has been rooting for Daenerys Targaryen to take the Iron Throne was left very disappointed after the finale last Sunday (May 19), when Jon Snow literally stabbed her in the heart while she was in his arms. (That’s not to say anything of the previous week’s episode, where she went full Mad Queen and left people more than a little upset). And although the close-up shot of the moment left virtually zero doubt that she was dead—and, you know, it was the series finale—Game of Thrones is a show known for its shocking plot twists. Needless to say, fans who are still a little bit in denial about the show’s ending—and Khaleesi’s fate, specifically—have come up with not one, but two theories about how the Mother of Dragons might still be alive. And honestly? They don’t not make sense.

Theory 1: Daenerys Is a Dragon Now

There’s a warg-centered theory that actually makes for some interesting reading, especially if you’ve gone through the Game of Thrones book series. In the prologue of A Dance With Dragons, wilding Varamyr gets killed but then—twist!—apparently comes to in the body of one of his wolves. “It is possible for the warg to live a type of second life, a much simpler life inside the mind of an animal he controls. In the second life, the skinchanger’s [warg’s] memory slowly fades until nothing of the man is left and only the beast remains,” the passage reads.

Yeah, sure, Bran is the only warg left that we know officially exists, but Dany’s brother Viserys—and a few other Targaryens—also claimed to be dragons. So it stands to reason that Khaleesi could have warged into Drogon.

Theory 2: Kinvara Resurrects Daenerys

OK, so remember Kinvara, all the way back from season six? She was a Red Priestess of the Lord of Light from Volantis. Tyrion and Varys wanted her to mount a good-PR campaign on Daenerys’ behalf (she’s a “liberator,” not a “conquerer”), but Kinvara was already on board and said she thought Dany was Azor Ahai, the Price Who Was Promised.

Now, skip ahead to the finale: King Bran’s people tell him that Daenerys’ Drogon was last spotted heading east, “towards Volantis,” and Bran was all in for using his Three-Eyed Raven sight to find Drogon. Fans think that means Drogon was bringing Khaleesi’s body to Volantis so Kinvara can resurrect her with the power of the Light. Hey, Melisandre did the same thing for Jon Snow, as did Thoros of Myr for Beric Dondarrion (more than once).

A Little More Potential Evidence

This past season, a fan of the show, or just a sadist, decided to leak the plot points for the last three episodes of the final season on Reddit. Everyone thought/hoped they were fake, but they were surprisingly accurate—like, to the point people thought the snitch had access to inside intel at HBO. Anyway, this person wrote that there was a post-credits scene featuring Dany that didn’t make the cut for the final episode. Whether this involved Dany getting resurrected over in Volantis or still just dead, we don’t know. But she was (apparently) supposed to be there!

As others point out, however, the show is usually good at dropping hints into episodes, if you just look hard enough for them—and surely with a twist this dramatic, the signs would be there. Or are these the signs? Drogon, for his part, is probably taking his mother back to Old Valyria, where Khaleesi was originally from. It’s hard to know for sure, but I gotta say, Daenerys did look pretty dead in her final scene. In any case, fans who wanted something more for Dany after all of that can take some small comfort knowing it might not be totally over for the Mother of Dragons—even if it’s only in their own epilogues for the show.

The Big Bang Theory Series Finale Details: The Producers Explain the Biggest Moments

That’s funny. I said this at Paleyfest last year, but my theory was that in the finale Penny was going to wake up from a nightmare where in reality she’s the expert scientist and the guys were just dudes she knows.

Prady: Well, pragmatically Penny was always the smartest one. Look, one of the driving ideas in The Big Bang Theory is intelligence is not an asset in so many aspects of life.

So true. Let’s talk about the elevator working again. That payoff was amazing. How long did it take to come up with the reveal?

Holland: It’s interesting, because when we were breaking out the finale that moment was going to come much, much later in the episode. Then as we were breaking out the episode, it just felt right. It felt like Sheldon was dealing with so much change and was at his breaking point. It seemed like the one thing that could push him over the edge. Also, it coming so early in the finale felt like it would be a much bigger surprise because no one would be expecting it to happen that early.

Penny is the first to ride in the elevator, so with her in mind, had you guys discussed revealing her maiden name? Or having her return to her acting roots?

Molaro: Never discussed it. It still falls under the category of superstition for us. Even though we finished the series, we’re still somehow afraid revealing that will get us canceled. [Laughs]

Prady: It’s also one of those odd things where characters got last names when they needed them. Chuck likes names because of how they sound, while I’m a hunting-for-deep-meaning kind of guy. For example, in the original version of the pilot, Leonard and Sheldon found her on the street. In my mind, she was a lucky penny. And then Leonard and Sheldon’s names came from [producer/writer/actor] Sheldon Leonard.

Here’s another funny story: Stuart didn’t have a last name, but there were [audition] sides that went out and he was given a temporary last name of Bloom just for them. Fans got ahold of those sides because they go out on websites for actors to download, and so his last name appeared in an online database. I remember looking at it in the writers’ room, and we were like, “That’s his last name?!” We were all baffled by it. So we said, “OK, well, that’s it” and put it in. But the Penny thing definitely became a superstition.

Shamy fans were hoping that Amy would be pregnant in the finale, or they’d see them with kids in a flash forward. What was the reason not to show that, since we know they do become parents one day?

Prady: I think the feeling was because that’s a reveal on Young Sheldon, it had no weight as a Big Bang finale reveal. It winds up being an “Oh, by the way…” kind of thing.

The Nobel speech that Sheldon and Amy gave in Stockholm was perfection. How hard was that to get right?

Holland: That’s the piece of the finale we’ve probably known for the longest. Since we found out this was the last season we talked about where we wanted to land, and the Nobel prize ceremony was a thing we knew early on. That moment in that speech was a thing we knew we wanted to do, so that’s probably the piece we’ve been thinking about longer than any other part of the finale.

Molaro: We were all crying our eyes out in the writers’ room while we were writing it. Everybody. The speech was moving to begin with, but because we were getting close to typing the words “End of Series” on the screen it was a tough day.

This ‘Game of Thrones’ Theory Suggests Bran Actually Warged Into Drogon at King’s Landing

There are many questions that are still unanswered as we head into the Game of Thrones series finale on Sunday night. Who will sit on the Iron Throne? Actually, will there even still be an Iron Throne? Is Arya going to kill Dany, as many people theorize? Will she do it with the poison people think Varys sent her? Is Jon Snow going to brood for all eternity?

And of course, what has Bran Stark been doing all this time and how does it fit into the big picture in Westeros? We know that Bran is the Three-Eyed Raven and can warg into animals, and his suspect behavior during the Battle of Winterfell already had fans thinking he might be evil.

Now a Reddit user named Ratcliffb believes that the Three-Eyed Raven (Bran) is fundamentally evil. According to this user’s theory, Dany was only planning to destroy the Red Keep, where Cersei was, so Bran warged into Drogon and set fire to King’s Landing himself.

“His most recent play has been doing everything to manipulate Dany into going Mad and burning down Kings Landing. Which will cause all the other lords to revolt against her. Problem is he underestimated Dany and instead of burning down Kings Landing she was headed for the Red Keep so the 3ER warged into Drogon and did it himself,” Ratcliffb writes.

“Dany’s eyes are LOCKED onto the Red Keep when she takes off and she’s beelining it for it for quite awhile,” the fan continues. “It’s only after we see the identical scene of Brans vision from an earlier season of Drogon’s shadow flying over King’s Landing that Drogon changes directions and starts lighting everyone up. They don’t show a close up of Dany again after that.”

True or not, it’s certainly an interesting theory. Hopefully the show will explain to us what the Three-Eyed Raven’s motivations truly are before the final scenes air this weekend—because Bran really does have some explaining to do.

This 'Game of Thrones' Theory Suggests Varys Took His Rings Off for an Important Reason


This post contains spoilers for the final season of Game of Thrones. Consider yourself warned.

The countdown to the final episode ever of Game of Thrones is on, and we’re not quite sure what everyone’s going to do with themselves once the juggernaut HBO show ends. In the meantime, I guess we’ll all just continues to analyze (and criticize) every frame of footage to try and figure out what is going to happen on Sunday night.

One prevailing guess among fans is that Daenerys Targaryen is going to die. In the previous episode, Dany basically breaks bad—possibly becoming the Mad Queen—and torches huge swaths of King’s Landing with her lone remaining dragon, Drogon. Based on the reactions of Jon Snow and Arya Stark, it would seem they’re not comfortable with her new leadership strategy. And some fans think will lead to Arya taking down the Mother of Dragons, just as she did the Night King.

If she is indeed the one to kill Dany, perhaps Arya will use her training by the Faceless Men to get close to her. But a new fan theory (first laid out on Buzzfeed) suggests the actual method: poison. We know that Varys sent letters—presumably telling others in the realm about Dany’s “madness” and Jon’s rightful claim to the Iron Throne—before he was executed. And, as Buzzfeed points out, he also very deliberately removes his rings while writing.

What could that mean? The theory suggests that there may be poison in one of them that is meant to kill the Mother of Dragons—and it’s based on the show’s history with deadly accessories. Back in season four when Olenna killed Joffrey, she did so with poison that was originally hidden in a jewel in Sansa’s necklace.

We already know that the Master of Whispers was trying to assassinate Dany with poison, so the thinking is that he deliberately removed the rings because he knew he was about to die and wanted to leave them for someone else like Arya, Jon, or Sansa to use.

We’ll find out on Sunday when the saga comes to an end.

The Big Bang Theory Season 12, Episode 22 Recap: Leonard and Beverly Just Broke My Heart

Across town, Raj is preparing to board his flight to London while Howard and Bernadette sit at home questioning his decision. They reckon that Raj—a hopeless romantic—is off to try and be with a woman who doesn’t believe in romantic comedies. “You can’t really think this is a good idea,” Bernadette tells her husband. “Of course I don’t,” Howard says. When he questions what else there is left to do, Bernadette urges him to run after Raj and get his best friend back. Maybe it’s Bernadette’s voice, but Howard is out of there faster than Usain Bolt.

Back at the Hofstadter’s house, Penny tells Beverly to apologize to Leonard, but she refuses in the most monotone, emotionless voice. I don’t know why I never realized this before, but Beverly is so Miranda Priestly.

Meanwhile, Leonard wants to know why he so desperately wants his mother’s approval. “You’d think I would have learned,” Leonard says. “It’s too bad you didn’t,” Sheldon says. Yes, it really is a shame Beverly isn’t Sheldon’s mother.

Over at the comic book store, Denise tells Stuart that if he would have moved in with her when she asked, they wouldn’t be in this weird situation with her roommate. Stuart says she’s right, but when he had the chance he was scared. Now he says he wants to move in with her. The two engage in witty banter about comic books that I don’t understand, further proving that everyone’s person is out there.

A good 45 minutes away, Howard rushes to the airport to stop Raj. “If you’re getting on the plane because you love Anu and can’t imagine spending another day without her, then go. If not, then stay here, with the people who love you.”

Raj is perplexed. “But what if this is my last chance at marriage and family?” (Well, if that’s the case, then me and a bunch of other 30-something singles are all screwed.)

Howard promises it’s not his last chance. Somewhere out there, there’s a woman who loves cooking shows and sweater vests and all the other dumb things he loves. “And I don’t think she’s waiting for you in England,” he says. “When you propose to someone in Notting Hill, it should be to someone who knows what that movie is.” Howard usually annoys me, but I’m here for his TED talk.

Raj’s response is brilliant. “Are you saying you’re just a boy standing in front of another boy saying you don’t want him to leave?”

“Sure,” Howard says, reluctantly. Then the two best friends hug. The airport lounge bursts into applause. And with that, Raj is returning home. But is this really the end of Anu? Or will she decide she can’t live without Raj?

While all of this is going down, Leonard storms into his apartment, prepared to have it out with Beverly. She asks if he’s calmed down. “No, I’m not calm! You really hurt me,” he says. Beverly says it wasn’t what she intended, and Leonard says it doesn’t matter. “What matters is the way you made me feel. Actually, the way you’ve always made me feel.” (Yes, Leonard!)

Beverly—giving us her best Miranda Priestly impression—says, “I see. You’re here to tell me all the ways I’ve failed you as a mother.” Leonard says yep, and it’s a long list. But then he adds it doesn’t matter because she’s never going to change. “If I want you to accept me for me, then I guess I’m going to have to accept you for you,” he says. “So…I forgive you.”

Beverly says she didn’t ask for forgiveness, but Leonard says too bad. It’s so heartbreaking and honest and once again a reminder that Johnny Galecki has never gotten the critical acclaim he deserves on this show. Leonard, with his voice cracking, says he forgives himself for taking so long to make peace with the fact that his mother will never change.

This ‘Game of Thrones’ Theory Explains Why Jon Snow Abandoned Ghost


Warning: Game of Thrones spoilers ahead.

A lot of moments from last week’s Game of Thrones made fans scream at their TV. The biggest upset was, of course, the devastating death of Daenerys Targaryen’s beloved dragon, Rhaegal. But that, unfortunately, wasn’t the only pet tragedy: There was also a heartbreaking scene in which Jon Snow abandoned his loyal wolf companion, Ghost.

Like many fans, I was pretty outraged when Jon did this. If you recall, each Stark sibling received a wolf pup back in the first season, and Jon’s was named Ghost. The albino wolf has stuck by his owner’s side unconditionally. When Jon died and was brought back to life by Melisandre, Ghost slept beside him the whole time.

But he obviously forgot this, because he left Ghost with Tormund in King’s Landing on Sunday, coldly saying, “A direwolf has no place in the South.” He didn’t even hug Ghost goodbye. Cue the boos.

So why did this happen? Well, there are a few theories. One Reddit user, Waitingforadragon, sees this sad farewell as a hint of things to come. They point out how each direwolf has represented the core of every Stark sibling’s storyline: “Arya’s direwolf is free and wild and can’t be tamed. Sansa’s is Lady, who is killed at Kings Landing, much like Sansa’s dreams of being a lady die at [the Riverlands]. Bran’s Summer dies after his meeting with the Three-Eyed Raven, much like Bran effectively dies and becomes something or someone else after this meeting.”

Waitingforadragon posits, then, that Jon leaving Ghost actually predicts his arc for the rest of the show: “For a few seasons now, Jon has been focused on defeating the White Walkers. He’s never really cared about who sits on the Iron Throne outside of how it affected his efforts in defeating the White Walkers. When Jon was focusing on defeating the Night King, he was exactly where he belonged… I think him leaving Ghost behind without interacting with him was a visual metaphor of how Jon is making a mistake. He is abandoning his true self and going against his true nature to go South instead of staying in the North where he belongs.”

This theory shares a common spirit with the whole Dany-is-the-Mad-Queen idea. If that’s true, perhaps Jon Snow is resigning to a dark fate. Or maybe the Game Of Thrones creators are planning to incorporate Ghost into the finale. He certainly deserves justice!
