Every Single Item from Meghan Markle's New 'Smart Set' Fashion Collection for Charity

It’s almost hard to remember a time before Meghan Markle’s every outfit change was documented and tracked down, credit for credit. Up until this point, the best any royal fan could do was to shop the pieces she wore to channel the duchess’s refined, understated, small-business supporting style—which they did in a huge way, causing even the smallest business to rack up massive waitlists almost instantaneously. But nothing will compare to the responses to Markle’s personally curated fashion collection for charity, available for purchase today.

In partnership with Marks & Spencer, John Lewis, Jigsaw, and personal friend and designer Misha Nonoo, Markle created a limited-edition capsule that follows a one-for-one model: For every piece sold, one will be donated to Smart Works to help underprivileged and unemployed women dress, prepare for, and ultimately ace job interviews. Which is wonderful news for anyone who appreciates a good cause as much as a work bag.

“Since moving to the UK, it has been deeply important to me to meet with communities and organisations on the ground doing meaningful work and to try to do whatever I can to help them amplify their impact,” the Duchess said on the Sussex Royal Instagram. “It was just last September that we launched the ‘Together’ cookbook with the women of the Hubb Kitchen in Grenfell. Today, a year later, I am excited to celebrate the launch of another initiative of women supporting women, and communities working together for the greater good.”

“Thank you to the four brands who came together in supporting Smart Works on this special project—placing purpose over profit and community over competition,” she continued. “In convening several companies rather than one, we’ve demonstrated how we can work collectively to empower each other—another layer to this communal success story, that I am so proud to be a part of.”

A dress, pair of perfect work pants, a blazer, and a blouse also the fill out the Markle-approved line, priced reasonably. (Most pieces are under $250.) Markle unveiled the collection at a rooftop launch event in London and you can shop it right now.

Target Is Re-Releasing Its Best Designer Collaborations of All Time—See Every Single Look

Guard your credit card, because Target is gearing up to re-release some of its best, most sought-after designer collaborations from the last two decades.

In honor of 20 years of brand partnerships, Target is launching a sweeping, limited-edition 300-piece collection on September 14 that functions as a greatest hits compilation of its best designer pair-ups of all time. It’ll include a massive variety of clothing, accessories, and household items from Issac Mizrahi, Anna Sui, Lilly Pulitzer, Zac Posen, Missoni, Proenza Schouler, Rodarte, Jason Wu, 3.1 Phillip Lim, Altuzarra, and more. Pieces start at just $7 and go up to $160—oh, and this time, all women’s apparel will be available in sizes XS to 3X. Be warned: There’s a five-item limit per customer on this release.

Rick Gomez, Target’s executive vice president and chief marketing and digital officer, said in a press release that this collection is a nod to the company’s effort to bring designer items to everyday consumers. Its first capsule collection was with Mizrahi in 2003; it then ran a few more high-end partnerships before formally creating the Designer Collaborations program, which eventually featured the likes of Alexander McQueen, Jean Paul Gaultier, Peter Pilotto, among others.

“Two decades ago, when we first set out to make beautifully designed products affordable, we created a movement in retail and culture that proclaimed that design could be—and should be—for all,” he said. “This Anniversary Collection takes our guests on a nostalgic journey through our designer collaboration history where they can discover products that they’ll fall in love with all over again, or for some, for the very first time.”

There are so many pieces that are coming back (remember those Missoni coffee cups?!), so if you missed them the first time, now’s your chance to bring them home. If we know one thing about Target’s designer collaborations, it’s that they go fast—so you’ll want to figure out your shopping strategy ahead of the launch. Check out every single lookbook image in the gallery ahead, and start scoping out exactly what five items you want.

Every Single Detail We Know About Sophie Turner's Custom Louis Vuitton Wedding Dress

Just when we thought we’d seen and absorbed all the details surrounding Sophie Turner and Joe Jonas’ second wedding in France on last Saturday (June 29)—the pre-wedding parties, the ceremony, the couple’s first official wedding photo—People‘s gone and blessed us with still more. On Friday, July 5, the magazine had the full report on just how much work went into the custom Louis Vuitton gown Turner wore for her nuptials, and let’s just say it’s pretty amazing.

We had our first close-up looks of the dress on Wednesday, July 3. The gown’s designer, Nicolas Ghesquière, artistic director of women’s collections at Louis Vuitton, posted a photo that gives us a glimpse of his creation from the back and sides. According to People, it’s made from flower-embroidered tulle and silk Gazar, a type of silk usually used in bridal and evening dresses. And all that embroidery took a lot of time: Per the magazine, more than 10 embroiderers worked a combined total of 75 hours to embellish the dress’s almost 46 feet of tulle with more than 650,000 stitches.

The same day, we had a second peek when the couple posted the first pics from their wedding. You can clearly see the gorgeous front of the dress in this photo of Turner and Jonas heading down the aisle after exchanging vows. People reports that each panel of her dress was embroidered with 50,400 crystal eclats and 50,400 white beads.

If you look back up at her veil, the amount of time spent on that is pretty stunning too: According to People, embroiderers worked for 48 hours on the highly detailed piece. The total time spent making her dress? More than 350 hours.

Turner looked beautiful on her wedding day, and the amount of detail in her dress is a thing of wonder. Although knock-off versions of celebrity wedding gowns tend to appear rather quickly after a high-profile wedding like this, it’s definitely going to be a challenge for anyone to dupe Turner’s intricately detailed dress.

The Tax Cuts and Jobs Act Is Causing Single Mothers to Face Unforeseen Tax Hikes

“Hello, single mother of two kids, here. My taxes went up significantly, meaning that I will not be able to do many of the things that matter to me and my family. But Happy Gaslighting Day to you, too, @GOP,” tweeted Asha Rangappa, a senior lecturer at Yale. The tweet was a reference to the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act (TCJA), the sweeping Republican-backed tax plan Trump signed into law in December 2017. With her declaration came a chorus of single mothers who had also experienced an unexpected increase in their annual taxes. One woman responded with “Exactly the same. Single mom of two, huge surge in taxes—like up $10k from what I paid last year. Hello, more consumer debt 2019. Owning the libs by hobbling the middle class. Good times, @GOP.” Another shared, “Single mom of 3 kids making under $60k & I owe for first time ever! #goptaxscam.”

For some mothers, and single mothers in particular, it seems, the increase came as a huge shock. Not just because most hadn’t expected it, but because Donald Trump—with the Republican Party behind him—has promised for months that the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act would provide massive tax cuts to Americans nationwide. So much so that Trump tweeted, “The Tax Cuts are so large and so meaningful, and yet the Fake News is working overtime to follow the lead of their friends, the defeated Dems, and only demean. This is truly a case where the results will speak for themselves, starting very soon. Jobs, Jobs, Jobs!”

When Tax Day rolled around, the results did speak for themselves. But not as Trump expected. “Tax time is usually a time of relief for me,” says Elizabeth, a chemist and single mom in Tulsa, Oklahoma, who asked that Glamour not use her last name. “I have always gotten a much-needed refund of $2,000 to $3,000. This has allowed me to pay unpaid medical bills and get my daughter necessary items like new clothes, since she still grows out of everything each season.” But this week Elizabeth discovered she owed money to the government. She had to fork over $168 in federal taxes. She’s quick to point out that $168 is not a lot, in the grand scheme, but given that she expected to get a refund during tax season, it’s a major hit.

Kat Stratford, a structural engineer and mother of one in Richmond, Virginia, had a similar experience. Stratford typically pays approximately $20,000 in taxes each year, but says this year she was required to pay an additional $8,000. Since she’d been budgeting only for her usual $20,000 amount, Stratford was completely blindsided by the increase. To pay the difference she had to dig into funds set aside to take her child on a vacation. While she says she feels fortunate she had to sacrifice only a discretionary trip, many of her other single mom friends paid a greater cost: “One mom was putting repairs off on her car and hoping to use her federal tax refund to assist in the costly repairs. Another routinely used her refund to pay off credit card debt accumulated over the previous holiday season buying gifts for her kids. This friend now not only owes money to the IRS; she will now go into this coming holiday season in residual credit card debt. Without some relief, it will be devastating and crippling to their families.”

So what exactly happened? According to Kelly Phillips Erb, a tax lawyer and founder of Tax Girl, the problem is twofold. First, the TCJA issued changes that directly impact all parents, single or otherwise. One of them is that the TCJA eliminated personal exemptions—the amount of money you’re allowed to deduct for yourself and dependents (which include your children) on your taxes. “Last year the personal exemption amount was $4,050 per dependent,” Erb says. “So, for example, in my family of five, I had $20,000 in personal exemptions last year, and this year I had none.” Instead of personal exemptions, the TCJA offers increased “standard deductions.” “The updated standard deduction rates are $12,000 for individuals, $18,000 for heads of household, and $24,000. While this sounds like you’re getting an even greater deal, in some cases this amounts to less than when you could file with dependents,” she says.

The other issue impacts Americans across the board. “When the TCJA was passed, they issued a number of changes to the tax code, especially in regard to withholding,” Erb explains. “The withholding tables were wrong for the first quarter of 2018, and even when they were fixed, people didn’t know to account for the new withholding amounts. So ultimately, people weren’t putting enough away to pay their taxes.” A new report predicts that more than 30 million Americans will ultimately owe tax money this year, a huge increase from previous years.

Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt Are Reportedly Both Officially Single Again

Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt have been in the process of divorcing for more than two and a half years, but it seems like things might be beginning to wrap up. People reported on Saturday (April 13) that the two are officially single again. However, there’s a twist—and it’s pretty important.

A judge has now ruled that the two can be considered single in the eyes of the law. The term for this is called “bifurcation,” and The Blast, which first broke the report, writes that the ruling in their case was filed Friday, April 12. What bifurcation does is allow them to keep hammering out the final details of their divorce while otherwise basically ending the marriage. So they’re single, but not quite yet divorced-divorced—and it’s a way for them to start getting some emotional distance as the process wraps up, too.

“We’re both doing our best. I heard one lawyer say, ‘No one wins in court—it’s just a matter of who gets hurt worse,'” Pitt told GQ back in 2017, just months after the initial divorce filing. “And it seems to be true, you spend a year just focused on building a case to prove your point and why you’re right and why they’re wrong, and it’s just an investment in vitriolic hatred. I just refuse. And fortunately my partner in this agrees. It’s just very, very jarring for the kids, to suddenly have their family ripped apart.”

Jolie filed for divorce in September 2016, about two years after the two had married in France, citing “irreconcilable differences” as the reason for separation and asking for custody of their six children. The divorce has definitely dragged on—mostly, reports People, due to conversations about finances and custody, and it’s still not finalized yet. But hey, it’s one step closer to closure for Brangelina.
