Summer Fridays' New R+R Mask Is Saving My Winter Skin

The second the temperature drops below 50 degrees, my fussy, combination skin gets dry, scaly, and irritated. Despite swapping my lighter products for oils and balms, overnight masking, and upping my water intake, there’s no soothing the dryness. Now I’m fighting acne and dull flakiness, and it feels like the journey to good skin is an uphill battle I’m never going to win.

Enter stage left, the R+R mask, a new pampering mask from the well-loved brand Summer Fridays. Despite only having two products on the market and being less than a year old, the brand has skyrocketed to cult status thanks to its Instagram-friendly aesthetic, influencer backing (it’s founded by Marianna Hewitt and Lauren Gores Ireland), and oh yeah, masks that really, really work.

The arrival of R+R on my desk couldn’t come any sooner, as it promises to revive and nurture dry, dull skin (as mentioned above, I am clearly suffering from both). Most of the mask’s nourishing powers come from the bouquet of oils it’s packed with, including argan, safflower, sesame, avocado, grape seed, and Bulgarian Rose. The oils are rich in fatty acids and antioxidants to deeply moisturize and repair skin.

The mask also contains a form of oil-soluble Vitamin C to help fight dullness and even skin tone. Finally, R+R—like the Overtime Mask—has both physical and chemical exfoliants to really slough off dead skin and jumpstart glow. The physical comes from the crushed rose powder, while the chemical comes from sucrose (a.k.a. sugar), an AHA. While it sounds like a lot, the oil provides a nice cushion, and I found it rather gentle, which is really what sets it apart from Overtime (that one is for more intense exfoliation).

The texture is one of the most unique masks I’ve ever used, it’s a clear jelly that definitely has a very oily, slippery feel to it. It also has rose petals and crushed rose petal powder suspended throughout, which I love as I’m a sucker for anything remotely rosy. As per the instructions, after applying the mask I gently rubbed it in for some light physical exfoliation. It’s a nice scrubby feeling that isn’t too harsh. Then, I let the mask sink in and all the yummy oils go to work.

Me with the R+R Mask on

I’m obsessed with the scent, which can only be described as delightful. It has a light rose smell that isn’t cloying or fake, just luxurious. It makes me feel like the mouse in this picture, but it’s not so over the top that it irritated my sensitive skin.

The brand suggests leaving the mask on for 10 minutes, but I left it on for a little longer both times I tried it. The first time I tested the mask I used it in the morning and thoroughly washed my face in the shower after. My face felt crazy smooth from the exfoliants and nourished from the oils, but not sticky or greasy. The mask doesn’t really sink it while you wear it, it kind of forms a layer that sits on top of your skin, so I was surprised at how deeply moisturized I felt, even after washing it off. I didn’t notice a huge difference in glow, but my skin felt cared for and my makeup went on smoother than usual. The second time I tried R+R, I used it before bed and used a damp washcloth to towel it off, but didn’t follow it with another cleanser. This time it left my face feeling comforted and wrapped in oils (in a good way), and I just put a moisturizer over top and went to bed. I woke up to smooth skin that looked a touch more radiant (Rome wasn’t built in a day people!).

Kylie Jenner Is Saving a Mini Hermès Birkin Bag to Give to Daughter Stormi

As her $12,500 Fendi stroller and $625 Gucci baby carrier have shown us, Stormi Webster—6-month-old daughter of Kylie Jenner and Travis Scott—is already building quite the luxurious wardrobe. But, according to her mom, there are a handful of big-ticket items she’ll have to wait to receive.

In a new video posted to her app, Jenner gave fans a tour of her famed purse closet—you know, the one filled with $250,000 of merch that has appeared all over her Instagram and Snapchat Stories over the past few months. While she was showing off the Hermès portion of her collection, the 21-year-old revealed there was an itty-bitty Birkin bag she’s saving to give Stormi.

“This is pretty much where I keep all my purses,” Jenner says in the video. “I made a little room in my house and I did this all custom so they all could have a little home and be lit up really pretty.” Of the Hermès bags, she notes how she’s been collecting them “for a minute” because they’re a “great investment,” before showing off a smaller Birkin—hot pink, with gold hardware—that’s reserved for her daughter: “Kourtney gave me this, which I think is super cute… This one I’m definitely going to let Stormi wear probably when she says, ‘Mommy I wanna carry a purse,’ so this is probably going to be her first purse.”

In addition to her countless Louis Vuitton, Dior, and Chanel “big girl” bags, Jenner revealed that she’s actually held on to her first purses for all these years. At one point in the clip, she pulls out a tiny, monogrammed Louis Vuitton baby bag and a black Prada coin purse: “My mom gave these to me and Kendall when we were super babies, so I’m definitely going to give this to Stormi,” she says. Upon whipping out the Prada purse, she seems to get nostalgic, adding that it “is in all our baby photos, me and Kendall, we’re always holding these at little holidays and events. I love this little coin purse.”

If Stormi doesn’t request to get her hands on these ones eventually, can we call dibs?

Moms Are Living For These Videos of Chrissy Teigen Saving Her Spilled Breast Milk

Back in December, Chrissy Teigen mused on Twitter about what she would grab if she needed to escape a fire in her home. At the time, all she could come up with were her daughter Luna, “some limited edition Oreos and my spike tv award.” As seen in another series of tweets this week, however, it seems that Teigen’s found another thing she’d go to any lengths to save: her breast milk. (And, you know, probably her newborn son Miles, too.)

On Wednesday, the model and cookbook author shared two videos in which she and a friend use a syringe, a turkey baster, and what looks like a shoehorn or some kind of spatula in a (mostly futile) attempt to salvage a small amount of breast milk that spilled out of her breast pump bottle and onto a table. “Spilled my breast milk, and this is how important it is in this house,” Teigen says in one of the videos. “I am so jealous of people with plentiful boobies,” she captioned one clip on Twitter, writing alongside the other, “EVERY DROP COUNTS IN THIS HOUSE.”

Since Teigen posted the silly but all-too-real clips online, many of her fellow moms have shared their own stories of doing whatever is necessary to save even the tiniest amount of spilled breast milk. Some, like Teigen, have turned to syringes to recover the milk, while several others wrote about soaking it up with paper towels and wringing them out into a bottle. The replies to Teigen’s tweets were a rare space of almost nothing but positive and supportive internet comments — all of which seemed to agree that it actually is OK to cry over spilled milk when it comes to that “liquid gold.”

This isn’t the first time since Teigen and husband John Legend welcomed Miles in May that moms everywhere have applauded Teigen for getting real about the struggles of breastfeeding. While he and his wife were heading to dinner in honor of Father’s Day the following month, Legend shared a photo of Teigen pumping in the backseat of a car, prompting countless responses from fans who were thrilled to see the stars getting real about the less glamorous parts of parenthood. Keep it up, you two!
