Serena Williams' Wedding Ring Is the Ninth Wonder of the World

Serena Williams is the GOAT tennis player and GOAT bride—she received personal dress guidance from Anna Wintour, I mean, come on—and now she also has the GOAT wedding ring. By that, we mean the biggest, sparkliest, blingiest ring you’ve ever seen in your entire life. It’s even bigger than her engagement ring. Does this sound like hyperbole? Yes. Is it? No! And I have so many questions about it, too. Like, how does it exist? Because the laws of physics seem to directly contradict it.

But first, let’s backtrack to the wedding, because that is where she acquired this rock that was last valued at “more than my life.” The Beauty and the Beast-themed nuptials were a week ago in New Orleans, and the guest list included Wintour, Beyoncé, and Kim Kardashian—exactly the top three you’d want if you were going to have a famous-person wedding. Williams married Reddit’s co-founder, Alexis Ohanian, so that’s #powercouplegoals right there, and she wore three dresses at the ceremony and reception—two of them Versace, one of them custom-designed by Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen, who also did Kate Middleton’s iconic gown. The latter was designed with a cape: Williams wanted to feel like a “superhero” on her wedding day, because she knows who she is. What a night! I only regret my invitation was lost in the mail.

Williams and Ohanian’s daughter, whose name is Alexis Olympia Ohanian Jr. and already has more social media followers than you do, was also present. The GOAT Jr. was bedecked in finery and sitting in her maternal grandmother’s lap.

Speaking of the infant, her latest appearance was in an Instagram with her Grand-Slamming mama on Wednesday, and that, dear readers, is where we get to the extremely good part: Williams’ ring.

This ‘gram wasn’t really about Alexis at all, if you look at it closely—despite it apparently being a self-portrait the 10-week-old posted to her Instagram account (upside-down selfie! So novel!). Nor, despite her assertion in the caption, is it about the leopard print. I mean, yes, Alexis is there, but so is that massive rock on Williams’ left hand, which is so big it almost pushed the fledgling Olympian (just re-read her middle name if you don’t believe me) out of the frame.

Look at this wonder:

Thank goodness Williams is an athlete, because it must take some serious arm strength to lift her hand now. On the bright side, there is no way that ring is going to get lost down the sink. Oh, and it’s freaking gorgeous.

A 'Sex and the City' Writer Finally Explained Why Carrie Took the Ring From Charlotte

PHOTO: Richard Corkery/Getty Images

Any fan of “Sex and the City” knows Carrie Bradshaw lived a, shall we say, unrealistic lifestyle, especially for a woman who writes a single freelance newspaper column and lives in New York. She’s got a closet full of designer clothes and $385 shoes, eats every meal in a restaurant, and is a fan of $20 cocktails. She also had a fairly unrealistic New York City apartment, even if it was rent-controlled, that she almost lost and ended up keeping because she bullied her best friend into, essentially, giving her the money.

Now, 15 years after Carrie’s questionable life choices, Sex and the City writer Amy Harris has jumped to her defense. “If people were pissed and hated that Carrie did that, I’m OK with that,” the writer-producer told CNBC Make It, about the fact that the character accepted her divorced friend’s beloved engagement ring as a down payment. “Sarah Jessica and I talked about this: We believe [Carrie] paid [Charlotte] back. It was a loan, not a gift, so she did have to learn to save a little, to not spend everything on shoes and clothes.”

To be clear, there wasn’t any explicit indication that Carrie paid back her friend, but the lessons were apparently still there. “In my mind, she had to acknowledge all the shit choices she’d made and the fact that she hadn’t saved a penny and that was a big mistake, and so she was living with that,” Harris said. “Carrie learned a lesson. I do believe she sat down every month and wrote Charlotte a check.”

Even so, the Internet has been divided about this whole awkward money exchange for years—and according to Vulture, it was even named the number-one “most messed-up” thing about Sex and the City.

“People are funny about money,” said Harris, who went on to explain that even the writers weren’t even in agreement that this was the right way to handle the “Carrie needs cash” situation. “The biggest fight we ever got into in the writers’ room was about the money; that was a very big debate. Money is a tricky, complicated thing. Carrie spent it well on things she enjoyed, and luckily it all worked out well for her–I love happy endings.”

The real happy ending? Carrie got to keep her money right where she could see it: hanging in her closet.

Rose Leslie Was Just Photographed Wearing Her Engagement Ring From Kit Harington

Game of Thrones fans across the world rejoiced on September 26 when co-stars Kit Harington and Rose Leslie confirmed their IRL engagement. “The engagement is announced between Kit, younger son of David and Deborah Harington of Worcestershire, and Rose, middle daughter of Sebastian and Candy Leslie of Aberdeenshire,” the ad the couple took out in The Sunday Times read. (Yes, Harington and Leslie announced their engagement via newspaper, which is the classiest and most iconic thing ever.)

Also iconic? Harington’s proposal to Leslie, which he opened up about to Jonathan Ross last week. Apparently, he’d set everything up perfectly—mood lighting, candles, the works—but it all fell apart when he asked the golden question a little prematurely. “I did have some plans to do it, I was going to string up some lights in some trees and do all the romantic stuff, but we were in the country and we were under this beautiful night sky and had a log fire burning and red wine and I blew my load early,” he said, according to The Sun. He quickly clarified his interesting choice of words by saying, “I was meant to do it the day after with the lights. What I meant to say was, I popped my question a bit early. Not blew my load…Sorry, that’s a really bad expression.”

Yes, Harington and Leslie’s engagement has truly been one charming story after the next. And the excitement continues tonight with new photos of Leslie wearing—wait for it—her engagement ring in public.

E! reports paparazzi caught Leslie at Heathrow Airport on Sunday (October 8) with the new, gorgeous ring on her finger. Check it out for yourself, below. It literally deserves its own Iron Throne.

There’s no word yet on when Leslie and Harington plan to tie the knot, but Harington told Ross that it will be a Game of Thrones cast affair. “I was like, ‘You need to factor in a Game of Thrones wedding, by the way,'” he said, per The Sun. “They [the cast] have all got to be there, so the whole thing has got to shut down.”
