Bombshell Review: The Fox News Drama Gives a Revealing Look at the Toxic Sexism of Roger Ailes

With Kelly as narrator, Bombshell breaks the fourth wall with asides to the audience (of a colleague who lasciviously compliments her dress as she walks through the Fox newsroom, Kelly says he’s not a creep, he’s just “ambitious”). That, along with the brusque, overly-explanatory style—a signature of writer Charles Randolph—falls flat. The device works in Randolph’s explanation of the 2008 financial crisis, The Big Short, because of the complexity of the financial system, but here, the asides are unnecessary and distracting.

Margot Robbie’s terrific Kayla, an “evangelical millennial” and aspiring anchor, is the most heartrending part of the film. While her character isn’t strictly true, she’s an amalgam of all the women Ailes subjected to his lechery, the ones who, unlike Carlson or Kelly, didn’t have enough star power or leverage to share publicly what had happened to them. One of the most crushing scenes in Bombshell is when Kayla breaks down telling her co-worker—the fantastic Kate McKinnon, who plays a (fictional) closeted lesbian producer—she “gave in” to Ailes.

More than anything, that’s what Bombshell gets right: the agonizing position workplace harassment puts women in. Carlson, in the movie and in reality, eventually settles the suit for $20 million, with the caveat that she’s forbidden from discussing what happened. (The real-life Carlson is now campaigning to end the use of nondisclosure agreements and forced arbitration that prevent women from speaking up.)

Near the end of the movie, Kayla ticks off the list of never-ending questions for women who’ve been harassed. What did I do to bring this on? Will I always be seen as a victim? If I come forward, will this define me? As in real life, the film leaves them unanswered.

Kim Kardashian Has Been Revealing the 2017 Kardashian-Jenner Christmas Card in Pieces

The Kardashian-Jenner family has a long and beloved history of sharing totally bonkers Christmas cards with their friends, family, and, most importantly, fans. And though the mega-famous blended bunch skipped out on sending a 2016 holiday card, it seems they are coming back in a big way for 2017. You see, for the last four days Kim Kardashian has been slowly rolling out bits and pieces of the family’s holiday greeting card on her social media channels.

Kim, who has dubbed the series “25 Days of Christmas,” shared the first piece of the Kardashian-Jenner puzzle on December 1. She also revealed that the images were all taken by photographer Eli Russell Linnetz. (You can see the photos on his website here.) The first shot is an adorable candid of baby Saint as he plays amongst a huge pile of Christmas presents next to an undecorated Christmas tree. Take a look:

Then, on December 2, Kim shared a portion of a photo that features her daughter, North West. In the image there are also two female torsos, one of which looks to be Kim—though with the Kardashian-Jenner fam, you never know.

And on December 3, Kim continued with the Christmas card teasers by showcasing an image of Kourtney’s son, Reign Aston Disick.

But it’s the photograph Kim shared on December 4 that has everyone talking. This one shows Kim and her daughter, North, only this time in a different position. Is it an outtake? Is there something crazy going on in this photo that we can’t even predict? Only time will tell.

One thing we do know: this year’s card is about the family’s women and children. While making an appearance on The Late Late Show, Kim told James Corden about the holiday card aesthetic. “This year’s Christmas card is shot really casually,” she said. “We’re kind of in jeans and T-shirts vibes. Really cute, all the kids, it was hard to put together.” She additionally gave a little hint as to who would actually make an appearance in this year’s card saying, “It’s women and children this year, so my grandma was last in it in 1989, that was the last time she was in our Christmas card with all of her four grandkids. So, she was invited back in this year.”

While the wait for the full shoot is hard, it’s fitting for the family—especially when you consider the fan theory that Kourtney and Kylie will announce their (alleged) pregnancies via the image. It is mother-child themed, after all… Luckily, you’ll only have to wait 21 more days for the full image to find out.

Theory Suggests Taylor Swift Could Have Been Revealing Her Single Names All Along

PHOTO: Carrie Davenport/TAS/Getty Images

Taylor Swift is always five steps ahead of her fans, and we’re struggling to keep up, even when she hides clues in plain sight.

The latest fan theory to come out of the Swiftie universe involves her Instagram captions, because that’s really all the information we have to go on right now (besides all the posts the singer likes on Tumblr). As someone at BuzzFeed first recognized, when Taylor announced the first single off of Reputation, “Look What You Made Me Do,” she also blatantly gave us a clue about the second single “… Ready For It?“—we just didn’t know it at the time.

When announcing “Look What You Made Me Do,” Taylor captioned her Instagram announcement, “…ready for it? New single #LookWhatYouMadeMeDo out now. Pre-order #reputation (link in bio) and find out about tickets and merch at taylorswift.com.” So, obviously, the name of the second song was revealed a little over a week later, the world re-read her Instagrams a little closer. Now, some social media users think the third track will be called “A Second Glance,” says Buzzfeed, after she wrote, “A second glance into #reputation…ready for it? Link in bio,” on Instagram to reveal her second single.

This is hardly the first fan theory stemming from Taylor’s new album. Fans have jumped on everything from Kanye West and Kim Kardashian shade to Beyoncé references to hidden squad mentions, not to mention those theories that she liked on Tumblr. Fans have dissected the new song and video within an inch of its life, and we’re still as confused as ever, TBH.

November 10 seriously can not come soon enough.
