The Only Thing Better Than the Friends Reunion News Is Celebrities' Reactions to It

On Friday, HBO gave the world the news it needed: The Friends reunion is actually happening. The network announced it will soon gather all six Friends stars for an unscripted special for HBO Max—and start streaming all 236 of the show’s episodes. Though we don’t know an official date for when this unscripted special will air or when the episodes will begin to stream, we do know it “will be available to subscribers at the launch of HBO Max,” according to a press release—and HBO Max is set to launch in May 2020.

If you’re at all excited about this, you should know you’re not alone: The only thing better than the news itself is the celebrity reactions to it.

Just check out a few of the replies on Jennifer Aniston’s Instagram post sharing the news.

Among the thousands of responses, eagle-eyed fans can spot more than a few bigger names including Queer Eye star Antoni, who simply exclaimed, “NOTHING ELSE MATTERS.”

Then there was Sarah Hyland, who gave a resounding “EXCUSE ME?!”

Next, it was Awkwafina’s turn to share an all caps “WHAT”

And Michelle Pfieffer, who shared the same enthused reaction.

Beanie Feldstein revealed she may have scared a few people on the street with her reaction, writing “I just screamed so loud on the street it was concerning.”

And Rita Wilson replied noting, “I’ll have what she’s having.”

It appears even Reece Witherspoon, Aniston’s co-star on The Morning Show, didn’t even get a heads up.

And Aniston’s good pal Gwyneth Paltrow was apparently out of the loop too.

Selena Gomez really summed up how we all feel with her comment, “NO ONE TALK TO ME I’M NOT OK.”

And Kaley Cuoco said it best when she wrote, “I can’t do anything with my life at the moment. This is too much.”

So yeah, suffice to say celebrities probably signing up for HBO Max as we speak, because, uh:

Let the countdown to May begin.

The Friends Reunion Is Really Happening—Here's Everything We Know

Guys—they were just on a break. The Friends reunion, which has been rumored practically ever since the purple door with the yellow frame on it shut for the last time, is officially, really happening. All six Friends stars will reunite for an unscripted special for HBO Max, the new streaming service from WarnerMedia that’s set to launch in May, the company announced on February 21.

The beloved sitcom, which ended after ten seasons in 2004, hasn’t been available to stream since the end of 2019, when the series left Netflix. The HBO Max special will be released on the streaming platform along with all 236 Friends episodes. It may be time to make alliances with family members, co-workers, and ex-boyfriends to decide who you’re sharing your HBO Max account with. What I’m saying is—you need to find out who your friends are.

Both HBO Max and the cast are being pretty hush-hush about the reunion special. Here’s every detail we know so far.

Who’s coming back:

According to a press release from HBO Max, Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, Matt LeBlanc, Matthew Perry, and David Schwimmer have all committed to reprising their roles in a new special, which will be executive produced by Friends creators Marta Kauffman and David Crane, as well as original Friends producer Kevin Bright. They’ll shoot on the original “Friends” soundstage, Stage 24, on the Warner Bros. Studio lot in Burbank, California. Ben Winston, best known for his work on The Late Late Show with James Corden, will direct as well as executive produce. What is this? All nine Friends Thanksgiving episodes rolled into one? Because we’re feeling pretty grateful.

The release date:

According to a press release, the long anticipated Friends reunion special, as well as all episodes of the show, “will be available to subscribers at the launch of HBO Max.” The service is set to launch in May 2020, though no specific date has been announced.

How they made it happen:

It sounds like the actors got plenty of perks, if you will—Variety reports that a source claims that all six performers will be paid at least $2.5 million each for their work. (LET JENNIFER HAVE ANYTHING SHE WANTS.)

Breakout the foosball table, the holiday armadillo, the traditional English trifle, and the smelly cats. This is really happening.

Courtney Cox Likes Instagram Posts About Brad Pitt and Jennifer Aniston's SAGs Reunion

On Sunday evening, Jennifer Aniston and Brad Pitt gave the world what they’ve been waiting for: an extremely brief, but extremely sweet, reunion at the Screen Actors Guild Awards. The approximately two-second handhold sent fans all over the world into a frenzy—including Anniston’s real-life bestie, Courtney Cox.

It all started when cameras caught a backstage moment of the former couple congratulating each other over their respective SAG wins—the reunion was definitely affectionate with Pitt grabbing Aniston’s arm. The interaction sent the Internet into nostalgia overload, including Aniston’s former Friends co-star. Buzzfeed noticed that Cox liked every single social media post about the duo’s reunion posted by the aggregate Instagram account Comments By Celebs. Though Cox never commented directly on the posts we all know what those likes really mean… that she, too, stans a healthy, mature, and friendly demeanor with an ex who shares the same profession.

Cox wasn’t alone in her appreciation for the Pitt and Aniston reunion; several A-listers posted under the photos shared by Comments by Celebs. Rumor Willis wrote, “my tender heart can’t take this,” while Morgan Stewart added, “I’m not emotionally prepared to handle this at this stage in my life.”

Even Brooklyn Decker got in on the action on one post, tossing out a conspiracy theory that Aniston’s finger slipped under Pitt’s lapel.

As for Aniston, she took all the fanfare in stride. During an interview with Entertainment Tonight, Aniston said the public’s obsession with her and Pitt’s friendship was all “hysterical,” adding, “but what else are they going to talk about?”

Answer: Nothing. This is all we will talk about…for days. Or, until Pitt makes a cameo on The Morning Show. Fingers crossed.

A Friends Reunion Special Is Reportedly in the Works at HBO Max

This is not a drill. We repeat, this is not a drill: A Friends reunion special is reportedly being developed by Warner Bros. yet-to-launch streaming service, HBO Max. (HBO Max will, of course, be the home for all 10 original seasons of Friends when it leaves Netflix at the end of the year.)

The Hollywood Reporter says talks are underway with all six original cast members—Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, Matt LeBlanc, Matthew Perry, and David Schwimmer—as well as the show’s creators, David Crane and Marta Kauffman. THR notes that a deal is far from done, so everyone keep your fingers crossed.

Also, this is not a reboot, but an unscripted reunion. So it’s good to manage your expectations on that front, too. We aren’t going to see what’s happened to Ross and Rachel over the years or how Chandler and Monica’s twins turned out—though I’d hope those would be topics for discussion when the whole cast is back together again.

While various cast members, and Aniston in particular, have been pretty steadfast in saying that a reboot is not happening, she recently hinted at a project—and perhaps this is it. “We would love for there to be something,” she told Ellen DeGeneres. “But we don’t know what that something is. So we’re just trying. We’re working on something.” And a few months before that she said, “Listen, I told you this: I would do it. The girls would do it. And the boys would do it, I’m sure.”

And the Friends cast has been spending time together lately. Aniston launched her Instagram with a photo of the six of them having dinner, and Cox recently posted a photo of her and Perry after a lunch date.

It may not be the reboot many fans have been clamoring for, but we’ll take it—and likely love it.

Emilia Clarke Celebrated Her Birthday With a 'Game of Thrones' Reunion

The official reign of Daenerys Stormborn of the House Targaryen, First of Her Name, the Unburnt, Queen of the Andals and the First Men, Khalessi of the Great Grass Sea, Breaker of Chains, and Mother of Dragons, ended with the Game of Thrones finale in May. While the show is no longer airing, its cast is still finding adorable ways to pay tribute to the one-time ruler of the seven kingdoms.

On Friday (October 25), Emilia Clarke, who played Dany on Game of Thrones, shared on Instagram that she was celebrating her 33rd birthday. She called in several reinforcements to help her celebrate in style, including her former Thrones co-stars Jason Momoa, who played Khal Drogo, and Kit Harrington, who played Jon Snow.

Clarke shared a photo of the trio, with Momoa standing between her and Harrington, on her Instagram. “Reunions never looked this hairy,” she captioned the picture. She also added a very specific hashtag: “#anyexcuseforamomoasandwich.”

Fans know this is a special GoT reunion for two reasons. First, Harrington and Momoa both played Clarke’s love interests on the series. Second, Clarke, Harrington, and Momoa never appeared onscreen as a group. Momoa’s character was killed in the first season; meanwhile, Harrington and Clarke didn’t share scenes together until Game of Thrones‘s seventh season. In other words, this is a Thrones mashup we never could have had while the series was airing.

Just before the trio got together for Clarke’s birthday party, she joined Momoa on The Graham Norton Show to talk about her new movie, Last Christmas. Clips of the interview aren’t available online yet, but Momoa shared some snaps from their segment on his Instagram. “I love u my Khalessi. Happy birthday love,” he wrote to Clarke in the caption.

The months since Game of Thrones ended have offered ample opportunity for the cast to get back together. In August, Clarke jetted to India on a vacation with Rose Leslie, who played Jon Snow’s first love interest Ygritte. Then in September, cast members, including Sophie Turner, Maisie Williams, and Lena Headey, reunited onstage and in the audience at the 2019 Emmys.

Long live the seven kingdoms—and the actors who brought it to life.

The Spice Girls Reunion Tour Is Definitely Happening—Without Victoria Beckham

Attention Spice Girls superfans: The iconic ’90s pop music girl gang is heading out on a world tour—just don’t expect Victoria Beckham, aka “Posh,” to join them.

After months of will they or won’t they speculation surrounding the possibility of a reunion tour, the former pop stars finally confirmed the long-awaited plans today (November 5) on Twitter. In a spoof video sharing the news and details of the tour, the women were joined by singer Jess Glynne, to kick off ticket sales, which start Saturday. However, one of the group’s former bandmates was noticeably absent from the video.

Despite the initial belief that all five of the Spice Girls would potentially be touring together, Beckham quickly shot down those rumors in a post to her Instagram account Monday, where she announced she would not be joining the tour, but wished the rest of her former bandmates the best of luck.

“Today marks a special day for the girls as they announce the first tour dates since we performed together in 2012! I won’t be joining my girls on stage again but being in the Spice Girls was a hugely important part of my life and I wish them so much love and fun as they go back on tour next year. I know they will put on an amazing show and the fantastic fans past and present are going to have a wonderful time! X vb #spicegirls #friendshipneverends”

Back in June, while speaking with Hoda Kotb on Today, Mel B (a.k.a. “Scary Spice”) seemed to confirm the possibility of a reunion tour, a move so many Spice World enthusiasts had been hoping for since the group’s final performance together in 2012.

“I’m the only one that keeps on saying we’re going to be performing, which, we are gonna be performing,” the star told Kotb on the air. “Finally, they’ve got it together. Yes. We are touring. Should I have really said that out loud? Yes, we are going to be doing performances together for sure.”

So while it seems as though Posh definitively will not be joining the rest of the Girls on their tour next year—at least we still have this video of her fist-pumping to “Spice Up Your Life.”
