Demi Lovato Performed for the First Time Since Her Overdose at the Grammys 2020


Demi Lovato took the stage at the 2020 Grammys on Sunday, January 26 to give her first performance since her highly-publicized 2018 overdose. The pop star debuted a new song, titled “Anyone,” and as you would expect her rendition was emotional and powerful.

Lovato got choked up at the beginning of her performance and had to re-start. The audience gave her a warm applause both during and after the performance, with many people standing up at the end.

Here are just a few of the lyrics to “Anyone,” so you can see just how poignant the song is:

“I tried to talk to my piano / I tried to talk to my guitar / Talked to my imagination / Confided into alcohol / I tried and tried and tried some more / Told secrets ’til my voice was sore / Tired of empty conversation / ‘Cause no one hears me anymore…Anyone, please send me anyone / Lord, is there anyone? / I need someone / Anyone, please send me anyone / Lord, is there anyone? / I need someone.”

If you forget, in July 2018 news broke that Demi Lovato suffered an apparent overdose. She stayed in the hospital for around three weeks before going into treatment. This was all later confirmed in August 2018 by Lovato herself, who wrote on Instagram at the time, “I have always been transparent about my journey with addiction. What I’ve learned is that this illness is not something that disappears or fades with time. It is something I must continue to overcome and have not done yet.”

She continued, “I want to thank God for keeping me alive and well. To my fans, I am forever grateful for all of your love and support throughout this past week and beyond. Your positive thoughts and prayers have helped me navigate through this difficult time. I want to thank my family, my team, and the staff at Cedars-Sinai who have been by my side this entire time. Without them I wouldn’t be here writing this letter to all of you. I now need time to heal and focus on my sobriety and road to recovery. The love you have all shown me will never be forgotten and I look forward to the day where I can say I came out on the other side.I will keep fighting.”

In a recent interview with Zane Lowe for Apple Music, Lovato revealed she wrote “Anyone” just days before her 2018 overdose. “I wish I could go back in time and help that version of myself,” she said. “I listen back to these lyrics and I hear it as a cry for help.”

Kelly Clarkson Dressed Up as Winifred From Hocus Pocus and Performed 'I Put a Spell on You'


Happy Halloween to all, but especially Kelly Clarkson.

‘Tis the season of candy corn, scary movies, and intricately-crafted celebrity costumes—especially on talk shows. From Today to Good Morning America and Live with Kelly and Ryan, the hosts always go all out with their looks. But we’re not sure anyone is going to be able to top Clarkson’s very first Halloween celebration on The Kelly Clarkson Show.

Even if you’ve yet to tune in to the daytime talk show, you’ve probably seen the viral clips of Clarkson covering other artists’ famous songs in her opening “Kellyoke” segment—like the time she sang Lizzo’s “Juice” and the internet lost its mind.

But the singer took things to a new level for her show’s Halloween celebration. Clarkson dressed up as one of Bette Midler’s most beloved characters: Winifred Sanderson from Hocus Pocus. And her backup singers were in costume as the other sisters, Sarah (Sarah Jessica Parker) and Mary (Kathy Najimy). The rest of her crew was also in full Halloween regalia as zombie bellhops.

And the song choice? The appropriately witchy “I Put a Spell On You”, which was originally written and recorded back in 1956 and has been covered countless times, including in Hocus Pocus.

The internet was very excited by this mash-up of some of their favorite things. “Kelly Clarkson singing ‘I Put A Spell On You’ dressed as a Sanderson sister from ‘Hocus Pocus’ is all I care about this Halloween,” one fan wrote. “Kelly Clarkson took a DNA test, and she’s 100% that WITCH! Kelly crushed her 2019 Halloween talk show episode by going as Winifred Sanderson from ‘Hocus Pocus’ AND singing ‘I Put A Spell On You’!,” another tweeted.

We’re still waiting to hear what the great Bette Midler thought of the performance. It’s a 10/10 for us.

Miley Cyrus Just Performed for the First Time Since the Liam Hemsworth Split at the 2019 MTV VMAs


Miley Cyrus has had an eventful few weeks. to say the least. It was just a little over two weeks ago that the singer and her husband, Liam Hemsworth, announced they were splitting up. Soon after, photos of her kissing Kaitlynn Carter (Brody Jenner’s ex and one of the stars of The Hills: New Beginnings) while the two were on vacation in Italy.

Oh, and on top of all of this she released a new single— called “Slide Away”—and prepped the performance we just saw on tonight’s MTV VMAs.

It feels like not that long ago at the VMAs, we saw Cyrus twerking all over the stage; for this performance, however, she kept things super pared down. The performance included a set of string musicians who lined the stage as she sang using a single microphone. Cyrus wore a simple black minidress, and the performance aired in black and white for viewers at home. This setting allowed the focus to be on her incredible vocals and the emotional lyrics.

As soon as the song was released last week, people started to surmise that it might be about the breakup with Hemsworth thanks to lines like, “Once upon a time, it was paradise. / Once upon a time, I was paralyzed. / Think I’m gonna miss these harbor lights, / But it’s time to let it go. / Once upon a time, it was made for us. / Woke up one day, it had turned to dust. / Baby, we were found, but now we’re lost, / So it’s time to let it go.” Or when she sings, “So won’t you slide away / Back to the ocean, I’ll go back to the city lights.”

Fans online loved the VMAs performance. “I literally have chills all over. Miley’s voice is something else,” one person tweeted. “God damn that song was absolutely gorgeous and her voice is legitimately one of a kind,” another wrote.

“I appreciate liam hemsworth for all the bops he has inspired for miley. Their relationship makes some great music lol,” one Twitter user wrote. See more, below.

This Is Us Star Chrissy Metz Performed a New Song Live at the ACM Awards


Every This Is Us fan is well aware that actress Chrissy Metz has a beautiful singing voice—her character, Kate Pearson, works as a professional singer after all. But last night at the Academy of Country Music Awards (ACMs), Metz performed a brand new song live on stage. A mighty big leap for any artist, and a first for the actress.

She originally recorded the song, called “I’m Standing With You,” for the soundtrack of her upcoming film Breakthrough. “I’m excited,” Metz told People on the red carpet before the show. “I mean, you know, as a little girl, you always dream about something like this. But to actually do it and to hold a stage with these incredible women—Lauren Alaina, Carrie Underwood, Maddie + Tae, Mickey Guyton. Are you kidding? It’s really exciting.”

Metz not only made her live television singing debut, but she did it alongside some country music greats, including Underwood who introduced her on stage. You can see a clip of the performance over at The Hollywood Reporter.

Being amongst country royalty wasn’t lost on Metz. “Here’s the thing. I just ran into Tanya Tucker. I was like, she literally kissed my hand — I have her lip gloss on my hand, folks. I really do love all of these acts and all of these artists,” Metz said. “I got to see George Strait and Miranda Lambert sing one of my favorite George Strait songs at rehearsal. I was like, losing my mind. Everyone here is just incredible. I love country music.”

Fans new and old loved the performance. “You really impressed me tonight @ChrissyMetz – Could you imagine the pressure being on stage with all those strong, fierce female vocalists? Jack would be so proud,” one tweeted. “Never knew Chrissy Metz could sing. I approve #ACMawards,” wrote another.

She even impressed Broadway icon Kristen Chenoweth who wrote, “Omg @ChrissyMetz you just nailed your first live tv singing performance! #standingwithyou #ACMs”

We agree, Jack Pearson would definitely be very proud of his “Katie Girl.”

Of Course Rihanna Performed Her Own Song at Karaoke Last Night


Rihanna—Queen of Our Hearts, Playlists, and Beauty Collections—is now officially the Queen of Karaoke too. The multi-hyphenate performer did some karaoke last night at a party in London for her Fenty Beauty brand, and get this: She covered one of her own songs.

Fan footage from the event proves a good time was had by all, including Ms. RiRi, who looked incredible in a chartreuse minidress with a bold pink lip. Check her out singing her 2007 hit “Rehab” with YouTuber Jackie Aina. “We’d been keeping the Rih Rih event secret for months, and I’m so happy it finally happened,” Aina tweeted. “I still really can’t even believe we met, took shots with, sang karaoke with and partied with Rih!!!!!”

Aina also rapped on Rihanna’s Instagram Live.

Rihanna didn’t stop at “Rehab,” either. She also hopped on the mic to sing Brandy and Monica’s classic from 1998, “The Boy Is Mine.”

And, of course, she danced. To “Wild Thoughts!”

Oh, and played beer pong.

Rihanna even handed out the goodie bags herself.

This is the first time Rihanna’s been out in a while. We last saw the beauty mogul in February on a basketball game-date with rumored billionaire boyfriend Hassan Jameel. It was just one of several activities Rihanna did to celebrate her 31st birthday.

And she had a lot to celebrate. For one, her Fenty Beauty brand continues to crush the makeup game with a slew of dynamic, shade-inclusive products. “I never could have anticipated the emotional connection that women are having with the products and the brand as a whole,” Rihanna told Time magazine about Fenty in November 2017. “Some are finding their shade of foundation for the first time, getting emotional at the counter. That’s something I will never get over.” She added, “I’m going to continue to have fun and push the boundaries in this industry.”

Kesha's Performed 'Praying' at the 2018 Grammys, and People Are Calling It the Best of All Time


Kesha‘s “Praying” brought the world to its knees on Sunday night. After the Rainbow singer took the Grammys stage to perform her power ballad, which was nominated for “Best Pop Solo Performance” (and lost to Ed Sheeran’s “Shape of You,” to the disappointment of many) at the ceremony, there wasn’t a dry eye to be found in either the TV audience or among the viewers at home.

The performance was made even more special since it marked Kesha’s first performance outside of her tour since she took a brief break from music in 2014. Camila Cabello, Cyndi Lauper, Julia Michaels, Bebe Rexha, and Andra Day, all dressed in head-to-toe white, joined Kesha, who wore a white suit embroidered with rainbow-colored flowers, on stage for the song. Along with a team of talented backup singers, also clad in white getups, the group belted out the emotional ballad together before gathering together around Kesha in a tearful group hug.

The tear-jerking performance was clearly linked to the #MeToo and Time’s Up movements. “Praying” is believed to be about Kesha’s as a survivor of abuse at the hands of producer Dr. Luke (né Lukasz Gottwald), who allegedly emotionally, sexually, and physically abused the singer in 2014. Though a judge dismissed most of Kesha’s complaints in an April 2016 trial, leaving her contractually obligated to remain under Dr. Luke’s Kemosabe label, she still created 2017’s Rainbow on her own terms and with the inclusion of songs like “Praying,” a triumphant ballad in which she encourages her tormentor to seek redemption.

Fans shared their love for Kesha on Twitter. “MS KESHA DID WHAT SHE HAD TO DO,” one wrote. “KESHA IS SO PRECIOUS SHE FOUGHT TO GET HERE I CANT AKDLDOSP #GRAMMYS,” another added.

The “Praying” performance wasn’t Sunday night’s only tribute to Time’s Up. Ahead of the 2018 Grammys, dozens of artists pledged to wear white roses to the ceremony in support of the movement against sexual abuse and misconduct in the entertainment industry and beyond. “We choose the white rose because historically it stands for hope, peace, sympathy and resistance,” the newly formed Voices in Entertainment organization wrote in an open letter. Kesha joined fellow musicians Kelly Clarkson, Halsey, Rita Ora, and many others in wearing white roses on Sunday’s red carpet.
