The 'Pitch Perfect' Women Really Have Us Thinking a 4th Movie Is Happening

Here’s some aca-amazing news to brighten up your Monday: Pitch Perfect 4 might be underway. On Sunday (September 30), four of the Barden Bellas—Anna Camp, Chrissie Fit, Brittany Snow, and Rebel Wilson—posted the same cryptic photo to their respective Instagrams. In the photo, the four Bellas pose while holding up four fingers. Wilson, Camp, and Fit all captioned the photo with four hearts, while Snow opted for “4 thumbs down.”

Naturally, fans are freaking out in the comments, with many interpreting the post as confirmation—or at least a hint—that a fourth movie in the popular Pitch Perfect franchise is on the way. Of course, there’s an another explanation for all this: As their Instagrams show, the Bellas were all present for Camp and Skylar Astin’s joint birthday celebration, so maybe the fours were just to show that, well, four of the former cast members have reunited in person.

Still, we’re not prepared to rule out the possibility of a Pitch Perfect 4. Considering the success of the previous three movies, another installment in the franchise is basically a no-brainer. And although screenwriter Kay Cannon told E! in April that Pitch Perfect 3 was the “end of the Bellas as we know them,” Anna Kendrick said she’d totally be down to reprise her role as Beca Mitchell for a fourth time. “Hell yeah!” she told Entertainment Weekly in August. “We’d do them forever.”

Kendrick isn’t the only Pitch Perfect star who’d want to return. Just last week Snow told Extra TV that “all of us would be game for it.” “We have the best time filming those movies. We made some of our best friends during that franchise,” she told the publication. “Part of us knows that chapter might be closed and is OK with that, but we are still incredibly close and we will probably make them—if they want us to—until the end of time.”

This 'Pitch Perfect' Rehearsal Footage Is, Well, Pitch Perfect

Pitch Perfect is the gift that keeps on giving—and how appropriate that, just after Christmas, the cast has bestowed upon us yet another gem of a present (hey, it’s a little late, but we’ll take it). If you might recall, actor Skylar Astin, who plays Jesse Swanson of the Barden Treblemakers in the Pitch Perfect series, is one of the first two movies’ shining stars. But even though Astin left the Treblemakers (and us!) in the third film, that doesn’t mean he’s gone forever. In fact, he was clearly missing the film’s cast when he posted a little something to Instagram on Friday: a clip of rehearsal footage from the first Pitch Perfect—and it’s never been seen before now. Even better? Rebel Wilson—Fat Amy of the Barden Bellas, of course— joined in after his post with a little gift of her own.

“FBF to this never before seen rehearsal footage of PP1!,” Astin captioned the post. “Featuring an invisible @bensplatt (who was probably at a fitting or something) ?” The videos feature the Treblemakers prepping “Right Round” and the “Bright Lights Big City” x “Magic” mashup.

Wilson joined in the fun by releasing her own behind-the-scenes footage on her YouTube channel. It’s the very first rehearsal of the “I Saw the Sign” mashup the Bellas would go on to perform in the ICCA semi-finals. “Back in 2011, we were just getting to know each other and work together as a team,” she captioned the clip. “This is the first rehearsal of our Bella’s semi-final performance for the ICCA’s. Our choreographer AJ would record us so we could learn the routines and get better.”

And for the very first rehearsal ever of the song and choreography, they sound incredible. Check it out—and then get ready to queue up Pitch Perfect for some lazy New Year’s Day viewing:

Anna Kendrick Just Hilariously Shaded the 'Pitch Perfect' Movies

There’s no denying that Anna Kendrick, Brittany Snow, Rebel Wilson, and the rest of the Barden Bellas love the Pitch Perfect movies. They wouldn’t have made three films—and even discussed the possibility of a fourth—if their passion wasn’t there. The behind-the-scenes pics from the Pitch Perfect sets show just how much these gals enjoy getting their acapella on with each other. It’a sisterhood, simply put—a sisterhood that rakes in boatloads of cash at the box office.

But that doesn’t mean the Bellas can’t roll their eyes—playfully, of course—at the franchise every now and then. I mean, Pitch Perfect is pretty ridiculous if you think about it. It’s about college-level acapella singing, which I didn’t even know was a thing.

And the promotion for each of these films has been stacked with “pitch” puns, both naturally and forced. The tagline for the first movie was “Get pitch-slapped.” The second one was pretty obvious: “We’re back, pitches,” But the third one takes the cake in terms of cheesiness and awkwardness: “The Night Before Pitchmas,” one of the posters advertising the film reads. Yes, “Pitchmas”—as in “Christmas” with the word “pitch” in place of “Chris.” It’s official: We’ve now reached maximum levels of “pitch” wordplay.

Kendrick agrees with me, too—if her most recent post on Instagram is any indication, that is. The actress posted a photo of the film’s “Night Before Pitchmas” ad and captioned it with something pretty hilarious and shady (in the best way possible). “Feels like we might be forcing the word play at this point BUT I DON’T CARE. #Pitchmas #WhateverThatIs,” Kendrick wrote. See it for yourself, below:

Of course, Kendrick wasn’t actually being snarky here—this was most likely just a silly joke. However, we’re living for the fact a Pitch Perfect cast member said something fans have been thinking for years. Now that’s the ultimate “pitch-slap,” TBH.

Anna Kendrick's Iconic 'Cups' Performance in 'Pitch Perfect' Almost Didn't Happen

One of the most iconic scenes in the first Pitch Perfect film is Anna Kendrick‘s “Cups” audition. If you’re one of the three people on Earth who’s never seen this movie and doesn’t know what I’m talking about, here’s a quick boiler plate: Kendrick’s character, Beca, decides to audition for her college’s all-female acapella group (the Barden Bellas) by randomly hitting cups on the floor and singing “When I’m Gone” with no background music. It’s quirky and weird and ultimately lands her a spot on the Bellas. But here’s the interesting part: Kendrick didn’t come up with this herself. Way before Pitch Perfect happened, she actually found people on the Internet who had performed the song acapella with cups and learned it secondhand—just for fun. She had no idea it would come in handy for the film.

“Handy” is definitely an understatement, too. When it came time to film Pitch Perfect, the producers needed to make sure Kendrick and the other Bellas could actually sing. “They were like, ‘Can you sing something for us?’ and I was like, ‘I get to do [‘Cups’].’ I had no use for it before.”

Producers were so impressed with Kendrick’s “Cups” performance that they decided to put it in the film in place of what they’d originally planned for Beca’s audition—which was “I’m a Little Teacup.”

“I don’t know how I was supposed to play [‘I’m a Little Teacup’], so thank God they changed that,” Kendrick said. “I would’ve been like, ‘I don’t know how to make this scene work, guys.'”

Watch Kendrick explain this, below.

Seriously, can you imagine Beca singing “I’m a Little Teacup” in front of terrifying Aubrey Posen? Talk about aca-awkward.

Pitch Perfect 3 hits theaters on December 22.

Kathie Lee Gifford Says 'No Person Is Perfect' and Calls for Forgiveness for Matt Lauer

Yesterday, Savannah Guthrie and Hoda Kotb opened the Today show on a somber (and shocked) note as they announced the firing of their co-host Matt Lauer over sexual misconduct accusations. Guthrie was obviously distressed by the news but also expressed her heartbreak for the woman who had come forward. “This is a sad morning at Today and NBC News,” Guthrie said. “As I’m sure you can understand, we are devastated. I’m heartbroken for Matt. He is my dear, dear colleague. And I’m heartbroken for the brave colleague who came forward to tell her story and any other women who have their own stories to tell.”

She added: “This reckoning that so many organizations have been going through is important, it’s long overdue, and it must result in workplaces where all women—all people—feel safe and respected.” Hotb concurred.

As the day, and the show, went on, her other co-hosts weighed in with Al Roker saying he was “still processing” while the newest addition to Today, Megyn Kelly, said that this one hit close to home but, “”But when this happens what we don’t see is the pain on the faces of those who found the courage to come forward, and it’s a terrifying thing to do. We are in the middle of a sea change in this country. An empowerment revolution,” Kelly added. “As painful as this moment is for so many here at NBC today, at CBS earlier this month, at Fox News over the last year, in Hollywood this fall, it is a sign of progress. Of women finding their voices, their courage and of the erosion of a shameful power imbalance that has been in place for far too long.”

But it’s Kathie Lee Gifford’s comments that are drawing fire from both men and women on Twitter. Gifford, who is always quite open about her Christian faith, commented that she had been praying for Lauer. But it was what came next that has everyone in an uproar:

“I’m grappling with, should I even share something? But I guess I
really should. I don’t feel that Matt has betrayed us in any way at
all but when I found out that my husband had betrayed me, you question
your own judgment. You say, ‘Was everything a lie?’ And I think we
have to very much fight against that, that the man we know and adored
was the man we loved and adored and continue to. I texted him this
morning and said ‘I adore you and no person is perfect in this world.’
Nobody is. We’ve all sinned and fallen short of the glory of God, is
what scripture says. And what we need now is forgiveness and mercy for
one another. And We don’t need taunts and we don’t need ugliness. We
have enough of that in the world.” She continued by sending her love
and God’s blessing to the person who came forward, to Matt, his
children, his wife saying the one thing she’s sure of in her life is
the only God can heal it.”

The betrayal she’s referring to is the infidelity of her late husband, Frank Gifford. And while it’s all well and good that she chose to forgive him, the situation between Lauer and his accusers is not the same thing. Not to mention that sweeping the multiple accusations quickly aside with a nobody’s perfect, let’s all just get along mentality is a disservice to the women who suffered at his hand.

Twitter, as you might imagine, was not having it.

Here’s hoping Gifford can read the room a little better when she hits the air at 10 a.m. Thursday.
