The Palace Reportedly Warned Meghan Markle About Throwing a ‘Flashy Baby Shower’

Last month Meghan Markle‘s best friends threw her a gorgeous, intimate baby shower in New York City. The event was a break with royal tradition, as most Kensington Palace moms-to-be don’t have baby showers. According to royals expert Victoria Arbiter, baby showers for royals are actually seen as “highly inappropriate” because the family is “clearly very wealthy.” “There’s nothing they can’t go out and buy themselves,” she told ABC News in 2013.

So why did Markle choose to have her shower anyway? We’re not sure, but according to a new report from Us Weekly. she was at least informed that such an event would raise eyebrows. “Meghan is still struggling with the press in London. She was made aware that Kensington Palace and the royal family, that’s not the way they do it with a big, flashy baby shower like the one she had in NYC,” a source told the magazine.

Don’t take this to mean Markle was reprimanded after her shower, though. In fact, another royals expert, Katie Nicholl, tells Glamour all this talk of Markle breaking “royal protocol” or “royal tradition” is more of a big deal outside the palace than in.

“You read all the time about Meghan breaking protocol by wearing dark nail polish, Meghan breaking protocol by wearing an off-the-shoulder dress, breaking protocol by wearing black. She’s not breaking royal protocol,” Nicholl, author of Harry and Meghan: Life, Loss, and Love, says. “There is no book of royal etiquette. She’s just doing things differently. I don’t think that’s causing huge problems at the palace—if Meghan steps out wearing dark nail polish. I don’t think it’s upsetting anyone. “

For what it’s worth, Markle’s baby shower sounds like it was an absolute blast. “A good time was had by all,” Gayle King, who attended to shower, revealed on CBS This Morning. We’re sure the queen would’ve loved it.

Priyanka Chopra and Nick Jonas Are Reportedly Getting Married in a Literal Palace

Priyanka Chopra and Nick Jonas are reportedly tying the knot next month in Jodhpur, India, and now we have some tea on a possible venue: the Umaid Bhawan Palace.

Yes, Jonas and Chopra are rumored to be exchanging their vows inside a literal palace. Why not, right? After all, their entire relationship has been fairytale-esque. They first met at the 2017 Met Gala and then had a whirlwind relationship last summer that included boat parties, concerts, and fancy baseball tickets. Jonas shut down a Tiffany’s store to find the perfect engagement ring for Chopra, and she one-upped this by having her bridal shower at the store’s flagship location in Midtown Manhattan. Tack on a luxurious bachelorette party in Amsterdam, and you have one of the dreamiest celebrity coupling stories in history. Of course they’re (allegedly) tying the knot in a palace.

And this isn’t just any ordinary palace, either. The Umaid Bhawan Palace is the primary residence of the Jodhpur royal family and includes 347 rooms, a hotel, and a museum. (You read that correctly: There’s a full-service hotel inside this palace.)

Take a look at the photos for yourself, below:

And last but not least, a swimming pool in case anyone at the wedding brings a bathing suit.

The nuptials are reportedly taking place the first weekend in December, which means I have less than a month to convince Nick Jonas and Priyanka Chopra to invite me.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle Are Moving Into Kensington Palace

Ever since their May wedding, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have been navigating a schedule chock-full of royal outings, charity engagements, weddings, and Meghan’s cookbook launch; they even managed to sneak away for a top-secret trip to Amsterdam and bring a new, adorable addition into their family. But when they do have down time, you won’t find them living in Kensington Palace: Instead, they’ve been staying in the two-bedroom Nottingham Cottage on the palace grounds, next door to Princess Eugenie and her fiancé, Jack Brooksbank.

Until now, that is: Prince Harry and the Duchess of Sussex are moving—across the yard.

According to MailOnline, Meghan and Harry are packing up their belongings and moving into their permanent home: an apartment in Kensington Palace. The outlet reports that the couple’s new home has been undergoing a year-long, £1.4 million (approximately $1.8 million) renovation, with a specific focus on repairs to the roof and windows, which explains why the Duke and Duchess have waited until now to finally move in.

The spectacular 21-room Apartment 1, located on the west side of the Palace, also neighbors the home of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, who live in Apartment 1A. Take a look at the newlyweds’ new home below, when it was still under renovation:

The two sets of couples apparently even have adjoining doors! Yeah—we’re officially jealous.

Buckingham Palace Is Selling $40 Replicas of Meghan Markle's Engagement Ring

Meghan Markle has worn a number of shoppable looks since becoming the duchess of Sussex. But there’s one item even the most royal-obsessed can’t get their hands on through official avenues: an exact copy of her engagement ring. Cleave and Company, the London-based company that made Markle’s ring, announced last winter that it wouldn’t make official replicas of of the diamond piece. But the Buckingham Palace gift shop is now selling the next best thing.

PHOTO: Chris Jackson

This week the Royal Collection, which operates the official gift shop of Buckingham Palace, released a collection of “statement jewelry” online, which includes a ring that is reminiscent of Markle’s engagement ring. And the likeness isn’t coincidental: Per the product description, “the design of this new statement range is inspired by the engagement ring of Meghan Markle.”

Retailing for 30 British pounds (approximately $40 U.S.), the Buckingham Palace Statement Ring is “made of sparkling crystals set on palladium plated metal.” And, yes, the Royal Collection ships worldwide.

Buckingham Palace seems to be merchandising the “Markle Sparkle” for all it’s worth. Along with the Markle-inspired statement ring, the shop is selling coordinating pieces that also site the duchess of Sussex as the design inspiration. Take these earrings, for instance.

This definitely isn’t the first time that replicas of Meghan Markle’s wardrobe have been sold: Shortly after the royal wedding, bridal brands began hawking imitations of the duchess’s wedding gowns by Claire Waight Keller for Givenchy and Stella McCartney. This appears to be a new phenomenon for Buckingham Palace, though—the royal collection currently doesn’t sell pieces “inspired by” Kate Middleton‘s ring (we checked).

If you’re not down with international shipping fees, there are even more dupes of Markle’s engagement ring available on sites like Etsy, Walmart, and Amazon. Here are some of our favorites.

If there’s one thing we can take away from the royal-sanctioned replica, it’s this: Not even Buckingham Palace is immune to the power of the Meghan Markle effect.

Bishop Michael Curry Says the Palace Approved His Powerful Sermon Before the Royal Wedding

After the Most Reverend Michael Curry, the first black bishop of the Episcopal Church, shook up the otherwise pretty traditional royal wedding with his 14-minute sermon last Saturday, many wondered how the majority British guest list—not to mention the buttoned-up royal family—felt about it. According to Curry himself, however, not only was his sermon approved by the newlyweds and the palace beforehand, but he could also sense the agreement of many wedding attendees throughout his address.

“That whole service had all of the permissions. Nothing would’ve happened in there without, in some sense, the blessings and permissions,” the bishop said on the Today show on Tuesday morning (May 22), when British anchor Keir Simmons jokingly thanked Curry for making the royal family “uncomfortable.”

“So I was aware of that, but I’ve gotta tell you, I’ve been doing this for a long time, and I’ve been in the Episcopal church for a long time, and Episcopalians aren’t known for being loud and raucous in church,” Curry continued. “But I’ve learned to be able to hear an ‘amen’ by looking in their eyes. And I was looking in the eyes of people who were there, and they were doing quiet, British ‘amens.'”

Beforehand, though, Curry admitted that he “really didn’t know” how his preaching style would go over in St. George’s Chapel. “But I knew that they had asked me to come, and that’s me. So I showed up,” he said, adding that he was “a little nervous” when he first took his spot in front of the congregation. “But then after that, it turned into a church, and I was speaking to a young couple who were in love. I mean, they are so passionately in love with each other, you can see it,” he said. “And I was really aware that their love for each other, that you could actually see that, when they looked at each other, that their love was actually, even in that moment, reorienting the world around that love. I mean, all of the divisions and all of the differences were being crossed, and worlds were coming together, and a new world was being created. That’s the power.”

Watch Curry’s interview for yourself, below:

At Saturday’s service, Curry centered his sermon on the “redemptive power of love.” “There’s power in love. Don’t underestimate it. Don’t even over-sentimentalize it. There’s power, power in love,” he said at St. George’s Chapel. “Imagine this tired old world where love is the way. When love is the way—unselfish, sacrificial, redemptive. When love is the way, then no child will go to bed hungry in this world ever again. When love is the way, we will let justice roll down like a mighty stream and righteousness like an ever-flowing brook. When love is the way, poverty will become history. When love is the way, the earth will be a sanctuary. When love is the way, we will lay down our swords and shields, down by the riverside, to study war no more.”

And while the Brits in the crowd kept their reactions to Curry’s sermon largely hidden, the rest of the world didn’t hold back. Of the almost 7 million Facebook and Twitter interactions about the royal wedding, Curry’s portion of the big day sparked the most buzz: Nearly 40,000 tweets per minute were reportedly sent while he was addressing the crowd. His sermon also landed him on that night’s episode of Saturday Night Live, in which he was portrayed on Weekend Update by Kenan Thompson; Curry, who couldn’t stop cracking up at a clip from the show, called Thompson’s portrayal “brilliant.”

Kensington Palace Just Addressed the 'Difficult Situation' With Meghan Markle's Dad

Earlier today, May 14, reports surfaced that Meghan Markle‘s father, Thomas Markle, will not attend his daughter’s royal wedding to Prince Harry on May 19. And now, Kensington Palace has spoken out about the headline-making news.

“This is a deeply personal moment for Ms. Markle in the days before her wedding,” a Kensington Palace spokesman said in a statement on Monday, May 14, per Us Weekly. “She and Prince Harry ask again for understanding and respect to be extended to Mr. Markle in this difficult situation.”

The statement didn’t clarify whether or not Thomas Markle will still be attending, but this comes after he was accused of staging paparazzi photos of himself “getting ready” for the big event—doing things like getting a suit tailored and reading a book on British landmarks. The photos didn’t attract much scrutiny until the Daily Mail published security video footage that appears to show Thomas, 73, teaming up with paparazzo Jeff Rayner to allegedly stage them.

Samantha Markle, Meghan’s half-sister and author of the not-yet-released tell-all The Diary of Princess Pushy’s Sister, has taken full responsibility for their father’s actions.

Markle’s father was supposed to walk her down the aisle, but it’s now unclear who will. To make matters even more dramatic, a large portion of Markle’s family who were reportedly not invited to the festivities showed up in London this week.
