MTV Movie & TV Awards 2018 Red Carpet: Best Looks


You know it’ll be a good awards show when Tiffany Haddish is hosting—and the red carpet for the 2018 MTV Movie & TV Awards only made us more excited for the actual event.

The program won’t air until Monday, June 18, but because it was taped over the weekend, we got a taste of all the spectacular fashion ahead of time. And all your favorites, from the cast of Grownish to the always-on-point Stranger Things kids, really brought it. Haddish made an entrance with a dramatic tulle train! The women of Riverdale slayed in sparkles! Tessa Thompson stunned in industry-favorite Rosie Assoulin! MTV is giving us really good reason to look forward to a Monday.

Camila Cabello Was Hurt by Fifth Harmony's 2017 MTV Video Music Awards Dig


Camila Cabello officially left Fifth Harmony more than a year ago, but there still seem to be some unresolved hurt feelings. In a new interview with The New York Times, Camila discusses her solo career and touches on the pain that Ally Brooke, Normani Kordei, Dinah Jane, and Lauren Jauregui caused her with their 2017 MTV Video Music Awards performance. When asked about the moment, Camila began to tear up and said, “It definitely hurt my feelings. I wasn’t expecting it, I wasn’t prepared for it — especially because at that point I’d moved on from it. I was just like, ‘What? Why?'”

She also called out her former band members for being “petty” with the stunt. “I have to make space for the good stuff to happen in my life,” she said. “I don’t like holding onto the past, especially when it’s stuff that, in my opinion, is just petty.”

Fans will remember that the remaining members of Fifth Harmony took the stage at the VMAs with a fifth person, who many speculated was meant to represent Camila, before the silhouetted figure was dramatically pushed offstage, leaving the rest to perform. (For what it’s worth, the remaining Fifth Harmony members later clarified on Good Morning America that the message was more about who is in the group rather than who’s not.)

Meanwhile, Camila seems to be doing just fine as a solo act. Her first album drops January 12, and she was just nominated (alongside every member of One Direction) for best solo breakout award at the iHeartRadio Music Awards.

Rita Ora Showed Up to the MTV EMAs in a Bathrobe, Dripping in Diamonds


Rita Ora isn’t here for red carpet gowns or worrying about her hair—at least when it came to the MTV European Movie Awards on Sunday. The singer, who was hosting the event, hit up the red carpet wearing a (very soft-looking) dressing gown and a towel artfully turbaned on her head.

Of course, it wasn’t an actual bathrobe, despite outward appearances. And all outward appearances did point to the opulent, massive-bell-sleeved hotel robes that are the stuff of our five-star dreams. In a case of art imitates life, the dressing gown is actually from the Spring/Summer ’18 collection of Palomo Spain, an androgynous menswear line you might just remember from the ruffled gown that Beyoncé wore in the first photoshoot with her newborn twins.

Beyond the robe and turban, of major note were the actual pounds of diamonds Ora must have been wearing that were dangling from her ears and around her neck, which we have definitely never worn in the bath (but probably would just to say we did, if we’re being honest).

Ora definitely had a glam squad going in the beauty department, too: Her skin is absolutely glowing, and her eyes are lined in smoky, coppery browns and set off with some magnificent lashes. The look was capped off with her queenly pose on the red carpet: a leg peeking, Jolie-style, out of the dressing gown; a casual hand in her pocket; and the other perched in the air, just waiting for a glass of wine and a sheet mask to be Photoshopped into it.

Aaaaand here’s proof it’s not an actual robe:

Twitter had some sassy thoughts about the look, as it often does.

Luckily Ora’s not above taking a little teasing: In a pre-recorded clip of her heading to the event, she’s seen getting into the car in the outfit. The driver turns around to say, “Jesus, you could have made an effort; it’s the EMAs!” Her response? “But it’s designer.”

Another stand-out look from the night? Demi Lovato‘s braless, topless suit jacket and waist-length hair transformed her into almost an identical version of one very famous reality star whose name rhymes with Jim Jardashian.

Demi Lovato's MTV EMAs Style Looks Surprisingly Kardashian-Like


It was only last week that Kim Kardashian vowed to never let a shirt distract from her Gucci suit. She went topless and braless under an open blazer, and the fashion gods smiled upon her stylist and double-stick tape. Demi Lovato has done a similar look before, too, though it was—literally—a bit more buttoned up: Her Baja East suit was reminiscent of fancy pajamas, done in beautiful sapphire satin with a narrow shawl lapel.

Lovato’s latest look combines the two, and honestly, she could pass for Kim’s doppelgänger with the result. On Sunday, the singer stepped out onto the red carpet at the MTV Europe Music Awards in London, where she was slated to perform. Styled by Law Roach, Lovato’s Styland wide-lapeled white plaid suit was more tailored than her satin suit, though wide-legged, paperbag waist trousers kept the look comfortable. She, like Kim, wore the jacket open, foregoing a bra or top.

But what really capped off the resemblance was her beauty look: long, monotone, dark brown hair—worn sleek, straight, center-parted, and all the way down to her waist. Even if the hot pink eyeshadow was a bit of a departure from what we’d see on Kim, the feathery, fluttery lashes and nude lipstick is a signature combo of the reality star’s.

Of course, we’ve got to give credit where credit is due. It’s worth noting that neither “Cher hair“—as the name implies—nor suiting worn without a top were invented by Kim. The Rapunzel-long length has become something of a status symbol on the red carpet lately. It’s popped up on everyone from Nicki Minaj (who’s been wearing hair down to her ankles) to Vanessa Hudgens to Rihanna. The same can be said for the pajama dressing trend.

But repetition is nothing if not noticeable. And it’s impossible to miss either of these women’s looks. How could you? They look incredible.

Teyana Taylor Channels Janet Jackson’s 1995 MTV VMAs Look at This Year’s Awards

Teyana Taylor made jaws hit the floor at last year’s MTV Video Music Awards as the solo star of Kanye West’s “Fade” video—and this year, she’s doing the same by channeling an iconic artist: Janet Jackson.

Taylor showed up to the 2017 VMAs red carpet donning a white cropped scoopneck shirt and wide-leg black pants (which conveniently showed off her incredible six-pack abs, in case you’d forgotten how ripped she was since last year’s show), as well as a super-short bob haircut. But the entire look was much more than just a testament to her #goals-worthy physique; it was also a dead ringer for Janet Jackson circa 22 years ago, who wore almost the exact same ensemble—down to the hairstyle—at the 1995 VMAs.

Taylor’s getup also went beyond being just a style tribute. At the 1995 VMAs, Janet Jackson’s music video for “Scream” was awarded Best Choreography—and we think it’s no coincidence that at the 2017 show, Kanye’s “Fade” video (which Taylor stars in) has already won the same award. Practically identical, right?

This isn’t the first time that Taylor has made an intentional statement with her fashion choices, either. In November, while accompanying her husband, Cleveland Cavaliers player Iman Shupert, on a visit to the White House, Taylor donned an Afro, turtleneck, velvet pantsuit, and hoop earrings in an homage to Angela Davis, a Black Panther and civil rights activist. Taylor wore the politically charged outfit on the very same day that then president-elect Donald Trump was to visit the White House, making her ensemble a clear statement of protest.
