Meghan Markle's Makeup Artist Shares the Secret to Her Perfect Brows

Meghan Markle‘s longtime friend and personal makeup artist, Daniel Martin, has revealed his secret to achieving the perfect brows. During a recent appearance on ITV’s Lorraine, he shared his beauty hacks for getting brows just like the royal’s and even showed viewers the most important do’s and don’ts for maintaining the best shape.

“Eyebrows frame our faces and can enhance our entire make up look,” Martin explained during his tutorial, according to The Daily Mail. The key to looking naturally blessed with good brow game? Treat your eyebrows “as sisters not twins,” he said. In other words, they shouldn’t be perfectly symmetrical.

“As we age we tend to loose our eyebrows a bit,” he continued. “So what we want to do, is we want to enhance her brow and really figure out that structure, really figure out those holes and spots that we lost.”

Martin then suggests using brow gel to brush against the hair growth, as well as applying a slightly lighter shade of powder below the brow to make them appear “fuller.”

Finally, Martin recommends using a little bit of hairspray to keep your brows in place. He said the simplest way is to spray some on a mascara spoolie and then brush them into your eyebrows.

Martin also addressed some common brow mistakes. “So one mistake a lot of people make is over tweezing or over plucking your brows,” he said. “When that happens you want to find something that you can easily go in to apply but you don’t want to re-shape or re-structure your brow.”

Markle’s iconic brows are reportedly inspired by Audrey Hepburn’s arches. The shape consists of a “straight, archless brow that tapers out toward your temple,” according to the salon Nails & Brows, where the Duchess has had her own royal brows sculpted. “The sculpt instantly lifts your face and creates a fresh and youthful appearance.”

So there you have it: In order to achieve the Duchess of Sussex’s perfect brow, we need to focus on fullness, use brow gel and some eyeshadow, add a little hairspray, and make sure not to over pluck.

Martin also famously did Markle’s makeup for her royal wedding to Prince Harry in May 2018—and he later shared every detail of her look with Glamour. He revealed that even though her makeup wasn’t inspired by a specific person (sorry, Audrey), his goal was to make her look “timeless, effortless, and chic” because “she wanted to look like her best self.”

16 Best Makeup Bags of 2019

Traveling is arguably one of the most exciting and enriching things in life, but if you ask pretty much anyone, they’ll agree packing is the exact opposite experience. No matter if you’re a light or heavy packer, plan in advance or wing it at the last minute, there are about a million other things we’d rather spend our time on. At least with clothing you can just toss things in a suitcase, but with beauty products there’s so much more to think about: TSA limitations, changing climates, packing skin care for in-flight and when you’re on the ground. But there is one thing that can make it all easier: a great makeup bag. The perfect one should check all the boxes: big enough to easily fit all your essentials yet small enough to stash in your bag, durable, and cute. It sounds like a lot, but trust us, they are out there.

Just ask the 16 women below, each of whom—from a celebrity esthetician to a reality TV star—have racked up hundreds of thousands frequent flier miles from how often they travel. Read on for the best makeup bags of all time, according to them, and get ready to kiss your plastic bags goodbye.

Gigi Hadid Wore a Full Face of Drugstore Makeup to the CMAs—and Crushed It

We are always here for an unexpected Gigi Hadid sighting—like when she showed up as Kacey Musgraves‘ date at last night’s CMA Awards. We love it even more when she shows up with an impeccably gorgeous makeup look that we can’t wait to recreate for every holiday party we go to this season. Oh, and did we forget to mention that every product is available at the drugstore?

Hadid’s go-to makeup artist, Patrick Ta, was “inspired by the flashing lights of Nashville and the vibrant glam of country music” and put the focus of the look at the supermodel’s golden shimmery eyes and nude lip using Maybelline products. (Hadid is a face for the brand.)

Let’s break it down, shall we.

FACE:

To create Hadid’s glowing skin, Ta lightly contoured her cheeks with the darkest shade of Maybelline FaceStudio Master Contour V-Shape DuoStick in Deep and then followed that with a lighter shade under the eyes, in the center of the forehead, on the chin, and the bridge of the nose. “Next, I used the Maybelline FitMe Blush in Nude and applied it to the apples of her cheeks, blending into the contour for a seamless finish,” Ta said in a release. “For a subtle but impactful highlight, I applied Maybelline FaceStudio Master Chrome Metallic Highlighter in Molten Gold to the highest but flattest points of her cheekbones. I set the look using the Maybelline FaceStudio Lasting Fix Makeup Setting Spray to ensure her glam stays put all night!”

Bonus tip: Hadid’s other makeup artist, Erin Parsons, previously told Glamour that you can “add an extra layer of glow by using a powder highlighter on top of a cream. I love the Maybelline FaceStudio Master Chrome Highlighter because it’s not glittery or chunky—it just gives the ultimate glimmer.”

EYES:

Ta broke out his “favorite palette”—Maybelline Lemonade Craze Eyeshadow Palette—and applied the shade Sweet Tea with a fluffy blush and applied it to Hadid’s crease, blending out to make sure there were no hard edges. He then added the shade Sherbet across her entire eyelid using a flat brush. Fun fact: Ta even created his own line of brushes, including an eye shadow brush, specifically designed to “expertly blend shadows into the crease during application,” he told Glamour.

To tie the shades together, he also applied Sweet Tea to her lower lash line before moving on to the sharp wing which he created with Maybelline TattooStudio Sharpenable Gel Pencil Longwear Eyeliner in Deep Onyx and would certainly meet with approval from Hadid’s friend, Taylor Swift. He finished off her eyes with two coats of The Falsies Black Drama Washable Mascara.

LIPS:

“I created Gigi’s statement nude lip by lining the lips with Maybelline Color Sensational Shaping Lip Liner in Purely Nude followed by Maybelline Color Sensational The Loaded Bolds Lipstick in Nude Thrill,” Ta said. And we love how the lip is subtle, yet somehow bold, all at the same time—which perfectly balances out her shimmery eyes.

Best Makeup Brushes of 2019, According to Celebrity Pros

In a perfect world, we’d all have our own personal glam squad to get us ready each day. But the reality is, unless you’re a celebrity or flush with cash, you’re probably on your own to swipe, buff, and brush on your face. While the makeup you use and techniques you’ve mastered have about 90 percent to do with how your makeup turns out, the other 10 percent comes down to the tools you use. And the way we see it, if you don’t have the option to call up Gigi Hadid’s makeup artist for a smoky eye, you can at least get one step closer by using the makeup brushes he swears by.

If you’ve ever wondered how makeup artists get the sharpest contour, glowiest skin, and richest lip colors, part of the secret lies in the brush. We polled some of our favorite makeup artists whose clients include both of the Hadid sisters, Chloë Grace Moretz, and Lea Michele on the best makeup brushes they always have on hand. Here’s what they can’t live without.

Meghan Markle's Makeup Rubbed Off on a Man's Jacket—and His Reaction Was Perfect

Meghan Markle‘s life as a member of the royal family is not something many, or really any, of us can relate to—what with all of that formal protocol, titles and palaces. But that doesn’t mean she’s not a real human woman who occasionally has a beauty mishap, just like the rest of us.

Earlier this week, Markle and Prince Harry attended a ceremony at Westminster Abbey’s Field of Remembrance to honor British military veterans. As they often do, the Sussexes also mingled with the crowd and gave out an occasional hug—and one such embrace caused the Duchess’s makeup to smudge. Royal reporter Rebecca English was on the scene and offered up details. “And here is D-Day veteran William Allen – a remarkable man who celebrates his 100th birthday next month,” she tweeted. “Meghan hugged and kissed him, leaving a little make-up smudge on his jacket. ‘I’m never washing that!’ he said.”

That is a perfect and totally adorable reaction to the Duchess of Sussex leaving some of her powder on your jacket. Who among us hasn’t had this exact same thing happen? The powder was probably applied by the one and only Meghan Markle herself as she reportedly likes to do her own makeup for most of her engagements. “She just likes doing her own makeup,” a source said earlier this year. “It has nothing to do with Kate. Meghan has her makeup done for some special occasions but likes to do it herself.”

If you’re looking for a little bit of that Markle Sparkle for yourself, try this tip from her friend and makeup artist, Daniel Martin. (He’s the genius behind her royal wedding makeup.) He told Glamour that the best way to get a glow is to dust a shimmery gold highlighter on your cheekbones to “brighten the complexion and add a nice radiance to the face without looking too much.”
