11 Meghan Markle Headlines From This Year That Are So Ridiculous, You Have to Laugh


Every day this year Meghan Markle was in the news for something. Most of the time, it was a pleasant story about her and Prince Harry being cute or one of her philanthropic projects or fashion moments. Every now and then, though, a report would make its way into the zeitgeist that was just…bizarre. From sister-in-law quarreling to breaking royal protocol, the rumors about Markle in 2018 were so out there you honestly have to laugh. Below, check out 11 stories from the past year that I still can’t shake.

1. The rumor about her making Kate Middleton cry. People claims that this went down at a bridesmaid dress fitting for Princess Charlotte right before Markle’s wedding. I find it hard to believe these two really argued over a three-year-old’s dress, and the palace has publicly denied any discord between the duchesses.

2. Every time she broke “royal protocol.” I swear to God, every time she wore a bateau neckline the tectonic plates on Earth shifted.

3. When she shut a car door on her own, and the whole world freaked out. Literally, all she did was shut her door. Like, that was it. My head is spinning.

4. How she reportedly exhausts her staff by sending them emails. Receiving emails from your boss? The nerve!

5. And that she’s “difficult” because she wakes up early. Her “up and at ‘em west coast energy” supposedly baffled the royal staff on more than one occasion. It’s good to know the palace workers are nocturnal?

6. Or because her assistant quit. Just because she left her post doesn’t mean there’s any beef. Uh, most people leave their jobs on amicable terms.

7. Everything Thomas Markle said or did. From the “will he or won’t he attend the royal wedding” drama to every claim he makes about texting Meghan or pleading with the queen to see her, Thomas was more extra this year than Priyanka Chopra and Nick Jonas’ social media strategy. And that’s saying something.

8. Oh, and her half-sister too. The amount of times Samantha Markle popped up in the tabloids this year for no reason is astounding. Now she’s throwing shade at Meghan and Prince Harry’s Christmas card. Just get off Twitter, girl!

9. Straight hair meant she was pregnant. Of course, Kensington Palace would go on to announce Markle is expecting her first child, but the straight hair had nothing to do with it. It was a red herring (or hair-ing, you could say).

10. Air fresheners for the church during the royal wedding. Markle reportedly didn’t like the “musty” smell of St. George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle. Who knows if this is true, but a little Febreze never hurt anyone.

11. Annnd that she’s related to a Jack the Ripper serial killer suspect. Thank u, next.

7 Meghan Markle and Prince Harry Conspiracy Theories So Ridiculous, You Have to Laugh


It’s been months since their wedding, but the world still has Meghan Markle and Prince Harry fever. Seriously, people can’t stop talking about them—whether it’s about Markle’s fashion or the couple’s honeymoon or, like, when they breathe.

This onslaught of coverage comes with its downsides, though, like rumors that range from mildly annoying to downright offensive. Interspersed in this chatter are a few theories so whacky and out there, you can’t even be mad at them. You just have to laugh. I mean, come on: The idea that Meghan Markle is a robot? That’s funny. And it’s not the only conspiracy theory that will crack you up. Below, seven extremely ridiculous ones.

This theory took off in June after a video showed “Meghan Markle” in the audience of Britain’s Got Talent clapping alongside “Prince Harry” but not moving her face, eyes, or lips. It turns out the clip was actually just a stunt promoting the Live Figures exhibit at Madame Tussauds in London. Someone was just wearing a mask of the robot Meghan Markle. It should go without saying that the Duchess of Sussex is, in fact, a living, breathing human.

One man’s tweet set the Internet on fire November 27, the day Markle and Prince Harry announced their engagement. Greg Pollowitz, editor of Twitchy.com, posited that Markle’s status as an American citizen will make her kids qualified to run for U.S. president and be in line to the British monarchy. “Brits are playing long-ball here, but it’s a smart move. They want America back and this is how they’ll do it,” Pollowitz wrote. This set off a ripple effect of theories suggesting Markle is just some political pawn in England’s plan to reclaim America, which is…nonsense. Hilarious nonsense.

The similarities between Markle, Prince Harry and the Love Actually characters Sam and Joanna are eerie. Off the bat, the physical resemblances are there, but this theory goes even deeper. For one, Sam in the movie is mourning the death of his mother at a young age, which Prince Harry obviously experienced in 1997. He’s won over by the musical talents of an American across the pond named Joanna, which has shades of how Prince Harry met Markle. You can read the full theory here, but take it with a very humorous grain of salt.

This theory comes straight from Vanderpump Rules‘ Jax Taylor, who tweeted, “Kardashians must be so pissed that the #RoyalWedding is taking their spotlight… don’t be surprised if Chris try’s to pull some shit and try and make it about her family in the next few days.” (LOL, that he spelled Kris’ name incorrectly.) His evidence? Just the fact that the Kardashians are, well, the Kardashians. This theory never came true—May 19 was all about Markle and Prince Harry—but that didn’t stop 1,158 people from “liking” it in support.

It’s hard to remember a time when Markle and Prince Harry’s relationship was a secret, but in 2016 that was the case. Everything about their possible courtship was speculative, so when British news show This Morning suddenly had “technical difficulties” during a segment about them, fans immediately got suspicious. Did the royal family cancel the broadcast themselves? Unlikely, but it’s a fun theory nonetheless. “#ThisMorning technical difficulties while talking about the royals ? Hmm suspicious …,” one person tweeted. Suspicious indeed.

This happened in September 2017, and some people were convinced the fingers Prince Harry held up in one photo were….demonic? Devil-worshipping? Trying to ward off evil? I’m 99 percent he just felt like holding his fingers in this way for arbitrary reasons.

Actor Paul Bettany threw this out there during an appearance on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon. He had no evidence to back it up besides his overall annoyance with royal wedding shenanigans. “I think that Meghan Markle might be a sleeper agent for the U.S. government,” Bettany joked. “The dad doing the photos thing, it’s like a false-flag event, I think the C.I.A.’s involved—everybody. I think Piers Morgan’s involved.” Imagine.

18 Female Comedians on How They Got Their First Laugh

Proof That Prince William Can Still Make Kate Middleton Laugh Out Loud


After six and a half years of marriage, Prince William still makes Kate Middleton laugh—like, really really hard. The couple recently attended the Royal Variety Show, hosted by English actress and comedian Miranda Hart, where the prince was the source of several moments of comedic gold.

According to Harper’s Bazaar, the first came out when Hart cajoled the prince during the show. The royal responded by shouting out some of her own catchphrases, including “such fun!” The whole display reportedly made the audience—including Kate—seriously LOL.

Then, after a performance from the musical Annie by a group of child actors, Hart encouraged one of the adorable young performers to ask the duke to imitate the trademark “galloping” move from her BBC1 show. After a brief moment of shyness, the prince obliged. Naturally, the sight of a grown man (who is also straight-up royalty) galloping about in a full tuxedo is objectively hilarious. And based on Middleton’s giggling, it’s clear she thought so, too.

The couple, who is expecting their third child in the new year, are constantly cracking each other up, proving that just because they’re royals doesn’t mean they take things too seriously. Kate joked about her pregnancy months before it was a reality (or at least, months before the world knew it was a reality), and William has had his fair share of hilarious digs at his younger brother, Prince Harry, after the announcement of his engagement to Meghan Markle. “Personally, I hope it means [Harry] stays out of my fridge and will stop him scrounging my food,” he joked to the press.

As they say: A royal couple that laughs together, stays together. Especially when they can make the entire world smile along with them.

Prince William Responds With a Laugh to Comment About Prince Harry's Rumored Engagement

The royal family is staying mum on the topic of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle‘s engagement—namely, whether it already happened or will be happening in the very near future. Most recently Prince William deflected a comment about his younger brother’s potential nuptials with the tried-and-true strategy of laughing awkwardly and changing the subject.

According to People, William paid a visit to William Cowley Parchment Makers, which provides the vellum used for royal and Parliament documents, in the English town of Milton Keynes on Tuesday. Paul Wright, William Cowley’s general manager, told the magazine that he oh-so-casually mentioned to Will that “if Prince Harry marries Meghan, then his certificate will be in our vellum.” In response, William “just laughed—a nice laugh,” Wright said.

Although it’s not much to go on, Prince William’s “nice laugh” is the only comment any member of the royal family has made regarding the engagement (besides Markle’s own coy, wordless smile when asked earlier this summer whether she was planning on taking a trip down the aisle anytime soon), so feel free to perform an unnecessarily deep, obsessive analysis on this sparing report.

The “nice laugh” heard ’round the world took place less than 24 hours after Markle and Prince Harry made their first joint appearance at the Invictus Games in Toronto. On Monday the lovebirds attended a wheelchair tennis match together and then held hands (!) while walking around the event grounds. Notably, the Suits actress was wearing a white button-down shirt from designer Misha Nonoo that’s called the—wait for it—Husband blouse. Be still, our British-royals-loving hearts.

Engagement rumors have been swirling around Harry, 33, and Markle, 36, for months. In July multiple sources reported that a proposal was “fast approaching.” The rumors only increased when, in the span of a few weeks in late August and early September, Harry was reported to be working closely with a jeweler, the pair vacationed in the exact same location in Africa where Prince Harry proposed to Kate, and Markle met Queen Elizabeth.

And if all of that weren’t enough confirmation that an engagement is truly imminent, Markle finally broke her silence on the one-year relationship in the October issue of Vanity Fair. “We’re two people who are really happy and in love,” she said. “We’re a couple. We’re in love. I’m sure there will be a time when we will have to come forward and present ourselves and have stories to tell, but I hope what people will understand is that this is our time. This is for us. It’s part of what makes it so special, that it’s just ours. But we’re happy. Personally, I love a great love story.”
